The Day After Damascus Falls

The Saudi-Israeli alliance has gone on the offensive, ramping up a “regime change” war in Syria and, in effect, promoting a military victory for Al-Qaeda or its spinoff, the Islamic State. But the consequences of that victory could toll the final bell for the American Republic, writes Robert Parry.

Mexico Police – Trained to Kill

This is an outrage!

Sixteen people killed in cold blood by the Mexican Federal Police; unarmed people of an auto-defense movement – in January 2015; just discovered by a team of investigative journalists.

Mexicans well remember the mass killing of 43 Ayotzinapa students of last September, unarmed students of a college that caters to the rural poor, who were protesting the government’s education reform which would make school unaffordable for the poor. Their killing was provoked by the police in connivance with drug cartels.

They train armies and police in their 'client' states to assure oppression whenever there is a chance that people may claim their civil rights. This is what empire does.

Turkish minister attends Armenian Genocide liturgy for first time

For the first time in history, Turkish Minister for EU Affairs Volkan Bozkir attended a liturgy on Friday commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide in 1915 in the Ottoman Empire, local TV channels have reported.
"We deeply respect the pain which our Armenian brothers have suffered. And we who suffered as well [during that period] are not against commemorating those dead. For that reason, I feel that it’s my duty to participate in this liturgy," Bozkir said.
Despite a serious dispute between Ankara and Yerevan on the 1915 events, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday that the republic was still ready to jointly study the archives on the events of the beginning of the last century.
Erdogan said Turkey "is always prepared to build peaceful and good neighborly relations with Armenia and is open for that and is ready for a dialogue."

Armenians mark 100 years since Ottoman massacres

Armenians Friday marked the centenary of the massacre of up to 1.5 million of their kin by Ottoman forces as France called on Turkey to recognise the 1915 slaughter as genocide.

Some 2 million Armenians were living in the Ottoman Empire at the start of the World War I in 1914, which increased turmoil in the Middle Eastern realm and led to its eventual demise.

In the next eight years, the size of the Armenian population in Turkey decreased to less than half a million.

The mass killings, which historians believe led to the demise of over 1.5 million people, began on April 24, 1915, when 250 Armenian intellectuals and community leaders were detained by the authorities and later executed in the then-capital, Constantinople (now Istanbul).

Gazprom Just Made Its Disgust with EU Felt

First, I was a little skeptical. Then more and more sources confirmed what seems to be a fact: Russia will completely stop the delivery of gaz through the Ukraine and all Russian gaz will now flow through Turkey (see Bloomberg and LifeNews).

Not only that, but the Russians have told the Europeans that if they want Russian gaz, they will have to build their own pipeline to Turkey at pay for it all.

The Europeans appear to be shell-shocked. Maros Sefcovic, the European Commission’s vice president for energy union, declared that this decision made "no economic sense".

Turkey withdraws Ambassador from the Vatican

The Pope's words about the Armenian genocide was made during the Armenian Liturgy in the Cathedral of St. Peter's square in Rome in commemoration of the 100th anniversary since the beginning of the mass extermination of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire during the First world war.
"Concealment or denial of evil is like a bleeding wound that is not bandaged," said Pope Francis.
Turkey does not recognize the genocide happened and had already expressed an outcry two years ago when the Pope first used this term in relation to the events of 1915.
Estimated Armenian and many independent historians, during the First world war as a result of systematic killings by Turkish forces killed 1.5 million Armenians. Turkey believes this figure is too high and explains the death of the Armenians by the realities of wartime.

The Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire before the First world war was 2.5 million people.

Partner or Pariah? Kerry Calls Lavrov for Help

Naming and shaming over the Iranian nuclear debacle will call out who just is the real pariah and who is the real partner to world peace.

Reading the Western news media is like swimming in a goldfish bowl. News one day gives way to some other transient story the next, and so on and on. With the result that if one were to rely on the Western media for understanding on any particular issue, there is faint chance of proper assimilation. Kerry reportedly needed Lavrov for help in clinching a breakthrough in the deadlocked nuclear negotiations with Iran.

At any rate, how will that “Ole Time Religion” square with this basically unimaginable world towards which we are racing?

Why is this world so sad? Do you have a religious answer? A faith-based answer?

CO: Life is suffering, and the ancient story of John the Baptist and Herod belongs to modern history…. Our “Herod” (POTUS) stands militarily above all other nations, and only Russia seems to stop the U.S. from cutting off (bombing) any head(s) our Controllers desire.

They intimidate the Vatican, and instead of “putting on the armor of God,” (St. Paul), the Roman Catholic Church often acquiesces, and by the “sin of omission,” helps hasten the making of a Rich Man & Lazarus world, an inevitable War of Civilizations.

GC: I agree. And I’m thinking these are threads we can address in a future “Poets Talk.” I don’t think we’ve dealt with religion at all (?!). Tough subject, but very necessary. Given your qualms, I wonder: how do you remain in the Church?

The Roots of Netanyahu’s Electoral Victory: Colonial Expansion and Fascist Ideology

Spy’s statement reveals his links with Canada and ISIS

Leaks from Mohammed al-Rashed's police statement published in Turkish media outlets revealed how he aided three UK girls and other foreign nationals to cross into Syria to join the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS).

Rashed was apprehended on February 28 by Turkish security forces. Along with many documents and information found on his possession and in his laptop, a video showing Rashed aiding three missing British girls, Shamima Begum, 15, Amira Abase, 15, and Kadiza Sultana, 16, was also found.

According to the police statement, Rashed came into contact with Canadian officials in 2013 when he sought for asylum in Canada. Rashed said that Canadian officials asked for information regarding ISIS' operations in return for citizenship.

A spy who worked for a country in the U.S.-led coalition that is fighting Islamic State had helped three British girls to cross into Syria to join the militants and has been caught, the Turkish foreign minister said on Thursday.

The Turkish coastguard opened fire to stop a cargo vessel carrying 337 people heading towards European Union waters and arrested the suspected traffickers, a top local official said on 13 March.

Russia, Turkey announce new gas route with hub in Greece borders

The first gas pipe with a capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters will be operational by December 2016.

Six hundred and sixty kilometers of the new Turkish Stream pipeline will go through the old South Stream corridor and a further 250 kilometers will head in the direction of the European part of Turkey.

The four threads which make up the pipeline will have a capacity of 63 billion cubic meters, Gazprom said in a statement following Tuesday’s meeting between CEO Aleksey Miller and the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz.

The company will apply to carry out design and exploration work in Turkish territorial waters on Wednesday, January 28.

Busted! Turkey caught smuggling weapons to al-Qaida

Turkish intelligence, under the apparent direction of then Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, allegedly has been authorizing the smuggling of arms to al-Qaida cells in Syria, according to informed Turkish sources.

The weapons, said to include rocket warheads, were allegedly smuggled in up to seven container trucks under the direction of Turkish Intelligence, or MIT, but were ordered halted by Aziz Takci, the public prosecutor for the southern Turkish city of Adana.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday demanded the international community condemn Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's remarks on Israel's participation in Paris's anti-terrorism rally on Sunday, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Netanyahu's office quoted him telling leaders of the pro-Israel lobbying group the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC): "I think the war against terror will not succeed if it's founded on hypocrisy, and I've yet to hear any world leader condemn the comments by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, not one."

A prosecutor has asked a Turkish court to issue an arrest warrant for long-time Erdogan rival Fethullah Gulen, a US-based cleric, Reuters cited a government official as saying.

Back in 1941, there was this foreign nation, Japan, which was illegally occupying other peoples' lands in China and Indonesia.

There were Americans in close proximity to that foreign nation, in the then-territory of Hawaii, and even though the Americans had not actually done much of anything, that foreign nation decided it had the right to attack and kill Americans just on the off chance that somewhere down the road, they might be in inconvenience.

Thus came about the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Now, just for a moment imagine that instead of declaring immediate war on those who attacked Americans, President Franklin D. Roosevelt had rushed over to the League of Nations to explain why Japan's attack on Americans was really no big deal, and that Japan had good reason to attack and kill Americans! Imagine if Roosevelt, instead of the "Day of Infamy" speech, had made countless excuses why Japan was perfectly right to attack and kill Americans. Imagine that the US Congress, instead of voting war against the nation that attacked Americans decided to punish those who criticized the nation that attacked Americans?

Quite an amazing fantasy isn't it? Yet this is exactly what we have seen the present government do over the last few years ever since Israel's attack on the aid flotilla!

Israel, citing grounds of national security, occupies the lands of Palestine, just as Japan, citing national security, occupied China. The Americans in the aid flotilla had not actually done anything to threaten Israel, just like the Americans sitting in Pearl Harbor had done nothing to threaten Japan.

1941 Japan attacks Americans in the middle of an ocean and the US goes to war against Japan.

2010 Israel attacks Americans in the middle of a sea and the US Government protects the attacker.

In 1904, American businessman Ion Perdicaris was taken prisoner by Mulai Raisuli. Now, from Raisuli's point of view, he had good reason to take Perdicaris prisoner as Raisuli was fighting against foreign occupation of his homeland. Even Perdicaris conceded that Raisuli was acting from what Perdicaris considered justifiable motives.

But President Roosevelt did not view the affair from Raisuli's point of view. He viewed it from the point of view of a President of the United States. Under the slogan "Perdicaris alive or Raisuli dead!" Roosevelt sent 7 US Battleships with orders to destroy Morroco if Perdicaris was not released. Perdicaris was sent home.

Those men were real Presidents; Presidents who understood that their job as commander in chief is to protect America and Americans first and foremost, and to hell with the other guys' point of view; real Presidents which when compared to, Obama is but a thin and venal wisp of shadow.

US Destroying Syria’s Oil Infrastructure Under Guise of Fighting ISIS

The US is considering bombing pipelines in Syria, which it claims is in an attempt to cut off the huge profits being made by ISIS from captured oilfields.

The Independent quotes Julieta Valls Noyes, the deputy assistant secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs during a visit to London, that ISIS was making $2 million a day off oil sales and that the US would consider airstrikes as well as “kinetic strikes against some pipelines” and “actual physical action to stop the flow”.

Turkey and China to mediate between Afghanistan and Pakistan

Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong said on Sunday the cooperation among China, Afghanistan and Pakistan would benefit the region and emphasized that building mutual trust and friendly consultations between these countries should be encouraged to promote cooperation.

He made these remarks in his keynote address on the opening day of China-Afghanistan-Pakistan trilateral dialogue here.

A collective regional approach toward countering issues and meeting challenges was emphasized by diplomats, scholars and researchers at the dialogue.

The death toll from ongoing illegal pro-Kurdish protests in Turkey has risen to 31 after a man died after being injured in demonstrations in Turkey’s southeastern province of Diyarbakir.

Cumali Gunes, 29, passed away after being taken to the Dicle State Hospital for treatment following an attack between two-group protesters in the province, health officials said on Friday.

US lifts sanctions on Turkish arm of Russia’s biggest lender

The US Treasury Department has taken a bank off its “naughty” list, Turkey’s DenizBank, a subsidiary of Sberbank. Russia’s largest bank was placed under sanctions in September, and now DenizBank is no longer blocked from American capital markets.

Istanbul-based DenizBank fell under sanctions because it is more than 50 percent (99.85 percent) owned by Sberbank, which acquired it in September 2012. The Department of the Treasury sanctions apply to any bank that is majority-owned by a sanctioned Russian bank.

Sberbank acquired Denizbank, Turkey’s eighth largest, from Belgium’s Dexia for $3.5 billion, as part of an effort to grow outside the former USSR.

NATO says will protect Turkey against ISIL militants

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has expressed its readiness to defend Turkey as a member state in the face of attacks from the ISIL Takfiri militants.

Speaking at a news conference in Poland’s capital city of Warsaw on Monday, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg held the Western military alliance responsible for protecting Turkey’s “integrity” and its borders.

"Turkey should know that NATO will be there if there is any spillover, any attacks on Turkey as a consequence of the violence we see in Syria," Stoltenberg said.

Turkish lawmakers OK military action against ISIS

Turkish lawmakers voted Thursday to authorize military force against ISIS in Syria and Iraq, joining a growing international coalition against the Islamist militants as they continued to capture territory just south of Turkey's border.

The Turkish Parliament voted 298-98 to not only to let the country's military leave its borders to battle ISIS but to eliminate threats coming from any terrorist organization in Iraq and Syria, starting Saturday.

It is a big shift for Turkey, a NATO member, which until now offered only tacit support to a U.S.-led coalition of about 40 nations going after ISIS in Iraq and Syria in various capacities.

Turkish tanks take up position on Syrian border next to besieged Kurdish town

Turkish tanks took up position on a hill overlooking the besieged Syrian border town of Kobane on Sept. 29 after several shells hit Turkish territory as militants of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) fired on the town, a Reuters correspondent said.

At least 15 tanks were positioned, some with their guns pointed towards Syrian territory, near a Turkish military base just northwest of Kobane. Plumes of smoke rose up as shells hit both the eastern and western sides of the city.

More tanks and armoured vehicles moved towards the Syrian border after at least two shells hit Turkish territory on Sept. 29, without causing damage.

Turkey Preparing for Syria Occupation?

As Western-backed terrorists drive allegedly tens of thousands of refugees into Turkish territory, and amid what is being called a "sustainable, persistent campaign" of air assaults, missile strikes, and other assorted attacks on Syrian territory, the West is preparing to dust off plans to establish a "buffer zone" in northern Syria protected by NATO troops - particularly from Turkey.

Hurriyet Daily News in its article, "Turkey’s top soldier inspects troops on Syrian border as gov't signals joining anti-ISIL bid, " indicated Turkey was preparing to join the unilateral, illegal strikes on Syria led by the US and backed by several Persian Gulf autocracies. Hurriyet reported:

Turkey’s land forces commander inspected troops along the Syrian border on Sept. 24, as the Turkish government signaled a policy change in actively joining the international coalition led by the United States against the jihadist threat in Iraq and Syria.

The Turkish Parliament is set to introduce legislation providing troops for the US-backed anti ISL forces next week.

Were I a betting person, I would be willing to bet that this legislation will be passed.

It appears that the US is preparing for an occupation of Syria, and Al-Assad's ouster.
