MH17 hauled gruesome cargo in infected corpses and tainted blood

IN THESE STILL EARLY HOURS FOLLOWING THE MYSTERY CRASH OF MH17, ONE MUST DARE TO THINK THE UNTHINKABLE

Jul 23 08:04

The violence didn’t begin with the three abducted Israeli settlers

Although the media is largely portraying Israel’s actions as defensive, violence in the region did not begin with the kidnapping and murder of the three Israel settlers on June 12, 2014.
In fact, Israel has been kidnapping and murdering Palestinian adults and youth on a regular basis for decades (read about how the conflict was started ), yet this is rarely covered in U.S. news.

As the death toll in Gaza continues to rise, we hope you are continuing to contact your Congress people and Senators, asking them to demand that Israel stop its slaughter in Gaza.

We’ve created a powerful infographic you can share with your friends and family that demonstrates two crucial facts:

1) That the violence in the region began BEFORE three Israelis were abducted on killed on June 12, and

2) That Israel has been killing a shockingly disproportionate number of civilians with its bombs in comparison to Hamas’ rockets, both in the current assault and over the last decade.

Jul 23 06:56

A chessboard drenched in blood

The MH17 tragedy may have been a horrendous mistake. But it may also have been a desperate gambit by the Kiev minions of the Empire of Chaos. By now, Russian intel may have already mastered the key facts. Washington’s predictable modus operandi was to shoot from the hip, igniting and in theory winning the spin war, and doubling down by releasing the proverbial army of “top officials” brimming with social media evidence. Moscow will take time to build a meticulous case, and only then lay it out in detail.

The Big Picture spells out the Empire of Chaos elites as extremely uneasy. Take Dr Zbigniew “The Grand Chessboard” Brzezinski, who as a former foreign policy mentor has the ears of the increasingly dejected White House paperboy. Dr Zbig was on CNN this Sunday challenging Europe’s leaders to “stand up to Putin”. He wonders if “Europe wants to become a satellite” and worries about “a moment of decisive significance for the future of the system – of the world system”.

Guilt By Insinuation. How American propaganda works.

As there are a number of possible explanations, let’s keep open minds and resist Washington’s propaganda until facts and evidence are in. In the very least Washington is guilty of using the incident to blame Russia in advance of the evidence. All Washington has shown us so far are accusations and insinuations. If that is all Washington continues to show us, we will know where the blame resides.
Why hasn’t Washington joined Russian President Putin in calling for an objective, non-politicized international investigation by experts of the case of the Malaysian jetliner?

Where are the *&%#$*@ sanctions against Israel for the genocide happening in Gaza? How come Israel can murder whoever they want?

Israel has murdered over 600 people in a few days time but I am not hearing the U.S., EU or anyone else calling for sanctions against them.

Remember Syria? The lies of a chemical attack last year? Remember how the U.S. and the world were outraged? BUT Israel can get away with $%^&*# murdering everyone they want... and #$%^&*@ Silence from every government!

Israel is not the chosen country of the world in God's eyes. The Jews are not the chosen people of the world in Gods eyes. We All are chosen people, including the Palestinians! They have the right to live their lives in Freedom and liberty without being massacred by Israel!

Enough is enough! If Russia was doing to East Ukraine what Israel is doing to Gaza we would be in WW3 with the U.S. and EU bombing Russia. Yet Israel can do as they please and murder who ever they please.

Syrian capital witnesses "fiercest fighting in months"

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported Tuesday that regime forces launched a massive aerial offensive on the neighborhood of Jobar, leaving at least 18 people wounded.

"Starting dawn Tuesday, Jobar saw the fiercest fighting in months, coupled with intense aerial bombardment," said Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman.

Regime forces launched at least nine strikes on Jobar, while troops on the ground continued fighting. Regime forces also allegedly "deployed tanks..and shelled rebel areas of Jobar," according to the Observatory.

An emotionally wrought Hanan Ashrawi calls on the world to act immediately in defense of defenseless Palestinian civilians being deliberately massacred in Gaza by Israeli military.

“Look there, there is no human being who cannot be affected by this. Unless you lose the last vestiges of humanity, you cannot allow this to go on. It has to stop,” Ashrawi said of the latest violence in Gaza.

“This morning, it’s nothing short of a massacre, a deliberate massacre. War crimes committed daily. But now there is a deliberate shelling and bombing and destruction of whole areas, of residential areas,” Ashrawi said on “This Week.”

Naomi Klein: Enough. It’s Time for a Boycott of Israel

It’s time. Long past time. The best strategy to end the increasingly bloody occupation is for Israel to become the target of the kind of global movement that put an end to apartheid in South Africa

Every day that Israel pounds Gaza brings more converts to the BDS cause – even among Israeli Jews. In the midst of the assault roughly 500 Israelis, dozens of them well-known artists and scholars, sent a letter to foreign ambassadors in Israel. It calls for “the adoption of immediate restrictive measures and sanctions” and draws a clear parallel with the anti-apartheid struggle. “The boycott on South Africa was effective, but Israel is handled with kid gloves … This international backing must stop.”

Activists occupy UK government building, demanding arms embargo on Israel

PALESTINE Solidarity activists in London occupied a UK government building yesterday to demand an immediate end to arms sales to Israel.

“By allowing arms exports to Israel to flourish, the UK government is providing material and political support for Israel’s violent oppression and collective punishment of Palestinians, including the current massacre in Gaza.”

“UK companies that export arms to Israel such as BAE Systems and Boeing are profiting directly from Israel’s on-going attacks on Palestinian civilians on Gaza,” the group member said.

“Rather than seeking to whitewash Israeli atrocities,” the campaigner added,”the UK government should listen to the appeals made by Palestinian civil society groups and Amnesty International and impose a military embargo on Israel. How many more people in Gaza have to die before the government will stop arming Israel?”

“The Israeli Dream”: The Criminal Roadmap Towards “Greater Israel”?

The concept of a “Greater Israel” according to the founding father of Zionism Theodore Herzl, is a Jewish State stretching “’From the Brook of Egypt to the Euphrates.’

Rabbi Fischmann, of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, stated to the UN Special Committee on 9th July 1947 that:

The Promised Land extends from the River of Egypt up to the Euphrates, it includes parts of Syria and Lebanon’”, wrote Michel Chossudovsky. (1)

Thus “from the Nile to the Euphrates.” Herzl’s detailed thesis was written in 1904.

Around half of the foreign-backed terrorists in the Syrian northwestern Aleppo Governorate have reportedly left the battlefield, as they have got disillusioned with the prospect of their anti-government campaign.

"A lot of people left because it's taking so long; they thought it was going to be a matter of yelling 'God is great' twice in protest and a few hits and it would be over," Zaitoun said.

US Aims at Blowing EU-Russia Rift with Downed Airliner

When assessing culpability, it is not only significant to ask the criminologist’s question: who benefits? It is also significant to observe how the political and media reaction to events quickly takes on an unmistakably scripted pre-ordained formula. In this case, there is more than a pungent whiff of premeditated action-reaction dialectic going on.

American geopolitical interests are best served by this atrocity, by shocking a laggardly Europe into adopting its aggressive sanctions towards Russia, even though that militates against European economic concerns. Shooting down a civilian airliner would ensure blowing a decisive rift between Europe and Russia.

The Human Price of Neocon Havoc

Whether the tragedy is four boys getting blown apart while playing on a beach in Gaza or nearly 300 killed from a suspected missile strike on a Malaysian Airliner over Ukraine or the thousands upon thousands of other innocent victims slaughtered in Iraq, Syria, Libya and other recent war zones, the underlying lesson is that the havoc encouraged by America’s neocons results in horrendous loss of human life.

The overriding lesson from these tragedies should be that the real villains are people who opt for chaos and war over progress and peace. And, in the case of the Middle East and Ukraine, the greatest purveyors of this unnecessary warfare are America’s neocons.

Kurds enter Syria from Turkey to fight ‘Islamic State’ jihadists

Hundreds of Kurdish fighters have entered northern Syria to help battle jihadists besieging the Kurdish city of Ain al-Arab, a monitor said Tuesday.

“At least 800 Kurdish fighters crossed the Turkish-Syrian border to help their comrades in Ain al-Arab (Kobane in Kurdish), which is under total siege by Islamic State jihadists,” Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

A Kurdish Syrian activist said the flow of fighters came as the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), blacklisted in Turkey as a terrorist organisation, gave orders for Kurdish fighters to move to protect Kobane.

“Fighters started going into Kobane from Turkey some four or five days ago,” said Havidar, who goes by only one name.

“But the latest entry, last night, came after orders from the higher leadership of the PKK. Last night, there were celebrations in Kobane — fighters were firing into the air as they arrived in the town,” he told AFP.

18 KILLED IN SYRIA FROM AN ISRAELI AIRSTRIKE

QUNEITRA, Syria –At least 18 people have been killed in an Israeli air attack in Syria's Quneitra province.

Assad al-Jolani, a representative of a Syrian opposition media center in Golan and Quneitra, told Anadolu Agency on Tuesday that an Israeli warplane bombed a governor's building and military stations leaving 18 people dead, including eight civilians and 10 Assad-regime soldiers.

Several people were also wounded.

The Syrian regime did not resist the Israeli bomb raid and attacked opposition controlled areas with missiles, Jolani said.

Egypt had earlier proposed a ceasefire between Gaza-based resistance factions and Israel should have come into effect at 6 a.m. GMT on Tuesday.

Israel's security cabinet had earlier accepted the proposal, while deputy Hamas leader Moussa Abu Marzouq said his group was still considering the initiative after having initially rejected it.

‘Ceasefire’ to refuel Israel criminality

The reality is that the Israeli regime has just given itself carte blanche to step up its genocide against the Palestinians – just as it was threatening to do so. The so-called ceasefire was nothing but a cynical charade to deceive this flagrant reality. Let’s make no mistake. What is happening in Gaza is unmitigated crimes against humanity, an operation of state-sponsored terrorism against an illegally occupied people.

If ever the Israeli military intelligence motto “war by deception” needed exemplified, then it is the current resumption of state-sponsored slaughter in Gaza.

UK policy of supporting Syrian rebels against Bashar al-Assad 'stupid'

Britain's policy towards Syria has been "stupid" and it should apologise for supporting rebels who are fighting to overthrow president Bashar al-Assad, and work with him to combat terrorism, the country's deputy foreign minister, Faisal Mekdad, has said. Mekdad told the Guardian that it was up to David Cameron to stop Britons coming to fight in Syria – an increasing preoccupation for UK authorities in recent months. "We regret that British people are coming here to be killed and to kill Syrians," he said. "But we believe it is the responsibility of the British government to stop such an onslaught."

Vladimir Putin Interview with Russian news agency ITAR-TASS on the eve of BRICS summit in Brazil

The forthcoming summit’s theme is Inclusive Growth: Sustainable Solutions. Therefore, we will consider the most urgent issues in global politics and the economy, as well as the BRICS (Brazil, Russia,India,China,South Africa) development.

How can this be achieved in practice?

First of all, to develop cooperation in the UN in every possible way, persistently counteract individual states’ attempts to impose on the international community the policy of displacing unwanted regimes and promoting unilateral solutions to crisis situations. We propose to create a mechanism of regular high?level consultations between our foreign ministries on different regional conflicts to agree, where possible, on common positions and joint efforts to ensure their political and diplomatic settlement.

Check Mating Washington in its Own Backyard with BRICSIANSE

The United States and its closest allies have attempted to isolate Russia and President Vladimir Putin from the world stage. As a result of Western support for the Ukrainian regime that came to power through violence in Kiev, actions taken by Western powers against Russia have included expelling Russia from the G-8 of capitalist powers, the freezing of the assets of Russian government officials and Russian banks, and imposing travel bands on Russian citizens.

Islamic State Terrorism, Iran And Syria Are Now Prepped For The Next False Flag Event

Islamic State jihadists ‘expel rivals’ from Syria’s Deir Ezzor

The jihadist Islamic State group took control of the rebel-held half of the eastern Syrian city of Deir Ezzor on Monday, buoyed by advances in neighbouring Iraq, a monitoring goup said.

Rival rebel groups fighting forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad either gave in and joined the IS or fled from the strategic Euphrates valley city, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Assad’s forces remain in control of the other half of the city, a provincial capital and pre-war hub of the country’s oil industry.

According to the Britain-based Observatory, which relies on a network of activists and medics on the ground, IS jihadists are now in control of “95 to 98 percent of Deir Ezzor province”.

Only the regime-controlled half of Deir Ezzor city, a handful of villages and the military airport remain out of IS control.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Excuse me, but where, or where, please, are those alleged "moderate rebels" the US government has been funding and training to overthrow Al-Assad?!?

Have they simply taken up the jihadists' calls for a caliphate, and are now aligned with them?!?

I think, at this point in the game, American taxpayers deserve a straight answer on this, after the billions spent on this.

Save Gaza Today; Tomorrow May Be Too Late!

As Israel is set for a ground invasion of Gaza, the alarming call of a Holy War is heard from an Israeli commander who tells his soldiers that they are engaged in a war to “wipe out” an “enemy who defames” God. Jewish extremism has always been concealed, and with it, the dangers. But the threat is very real – and very well understood even by those supporting this growing danger.

World leaders have warned that the conflict could engulf the entire region, but Israel is not heeding their warnings. Perhaps Netanyahu is smug in the knowledge that even if all in the region (and beyond) perish, Israeli Jews, or at least some, will be safe in its Site 911.Site 911, funded by America, due for completion soon.

With the growing extremism in Israeli military, their “holy wars” and nukes, it is not just Gaza that is burning – this is a war on humanity and perhaps even human race. If we do not stop it today, tomorrow may be too late.

An Open Letter to Wall Street Journal from a Palestinian Woman

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee’s Media Relations Specialist Amani Al-Khatahtbeh responds to Bret Stephens’ racist column “Where are the Palestinian Women?” in the Wall Street Journal last week. Stephens makes the assertion that all Palestinian mothers want to raise their sons to be martyrs. In a condescending comparison to Israeli society, he goes on to say that he has “yet to meet the Israeli mother who wants to raise her boys to become kidnappers and murderers.”

Al-Khatahtbeh responds, “Actually, every Israeli mother is legally obligated by the Israeli government to enter her sons and daughters into an institution that systematically kidnaps and murders. It’s [called] the Israeli Defense Force.”

The Unfolding of Yinon’s “Zionist Plan for the Middle East”: The Crisis in Iraq and the Centrality of the National Interest of Israel

“The Unfolding of Yinon’s ‘Zionist Plan for the Middle East’: The Crisis in Iraq and the Centrality of the National Interest of Israel,” illustrates how the ethno-sectarian fragmentation and internecine warfare between Shiites and Sunnis is in line with the Yinon plan to enhance Israel’s security and was ignited by the neocon-inspired US invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Netanyahu and the neocons currently view Iran as a greater threat in the Middle East than ISIS, and while they advocate US military intervention, they emphasize that such intervention should not empower Iran, notes Stephen Sniegoski.

The Mindlessness of a Manifesto

“A liberal world order, like any world order, is something that is imposed, and as much as we in the West might wish it to be imposed by superior virtue, it is generally imposed by superior power” (“Superpowers Don’t Get to Retire: What Our Tired Country Still Owes the World,” Robert Kagan, Brookings Institute. May 26, 2014). This sentence from Kagan’s Neo-Conservative Manifesto reads like so much flotsam in a cesspool of scattered feces. It emanates from a mindless, bloated root chakra that has abandoned all except instinctive self-survival. It is deficient in understanding and wisdom, a mind surviving in an isolated tribe, a being guided only by fear of everlasting victimhood. How does one read this flotsam?

We don’t need to read it, we are witnessing its last throes today in Gaza as the consequences of neo-conservative “superior power” unfurls before the world once again and the desperation of neo-conservative idiocy splashes over the screen for the world to witness.

CrossTalk: Target-Gaza — Norman Finkelstein

Norman Finkelstein: There’ll be peace and tranquility in the land of Israel when Israel negotiates a settlement of the conflict according to International Law. Everybody is ready for the conflict to end except the lunatics in Tel Aviv.

Regarding Israel’s claim that Hamas was responsible for the abduction and murder of the three Israeli youth, Finkelstein said:The US State Department was asked,do you have any evidence, that Hamas was behind this ?Their response was: “As of now, we don’t have any evidence.”

What’s clear is that Prime Minister Netanyahu has used, exploited, this incident for political purposes… to destroy Hamas, and because he wanted to dismantle the Unity Government. Hamas formed the Unity Government on the terms put forward by the US & the EU, notes Norman Finkelstein.

He also notes:“There have been zero casualties on the Israeli side from the so-called “barrage” of rocket attacks…”

Smuggled Syrian-made rockets based on a Chinese design have boosted Hamas' 10,000-strong arsenal which is dominated by crude homemade devices, officials and experts say.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If this were true (and not for one second am I buying this USDA Choice bovine excrement) then it means that Israel's starvation blockade of Gaza is totally ineffective. Get Israel out of the West Bank

So are the people advocating firing rockets in Gaza the same type of ditzy lefties and/or Israeli stooges as the ones in the US Congress ?

To the best of my knowledge, none of the many rockets fired into Israel from Gaza have ever hit a military or police target. Most of them fail, are intercepted, or hit open desert. The few that do hit something hit civilian homes and buildings, doing minimal damage. Casualties inflicted are also few.

What they DO accomplish is to give Israel a minimal pretext which the Israelis greatly exaggerate to “justify” their attacks on Gaza and to solicit funds from the United States.

Chomsky, BDS And The Jewish Left Paradigm

The message to the Palestinian Western activists who worked for years to build a dialogue with the Jewish Left is simple and devastating – you went to bed with the wrong people. Trust in the Jewish left killed your resistance and seems to have killed whatever is left of your cause.

The verdict is clear. The occupation is not the problem; it is just a symptom of the problem. The Jewish state is a problem and it is a serious problem. The Jewish Lobby is an even greater problem and it is a global one. And as it seems, even the Jewish Left a la Chomsky is also a grave problem. At the very least it has been an obstacle that prevented the Palestinians from grasping the real context of their struggle.

US diplomats, military and intelligence officers, politicians, academics and journalists critical of the US-Israel relationship,in Washington and elsewhere gathered On March 7, 2014 with other critics in Washington, at the Washington DC National Press Club for a “National Summit to Reassess the U.S.-Israel ‘Special Relationship.” The event was organized by the Council for the National Interest, If Americans Knew, Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy, and Washington Report on Middle East Affairs. It was a full day of six panels with a total of 25 speakers. Despite the full program moderators kept the event on schedule. The ballroom of the National Press Club was filled, and the event was broadcast live on C-Span. Video of each panel and separate audio for each speaker, and near-complete transcripts, are at the IRMEP program page and the natsummit.org page. The proceedings survey Israel’s influence and its damage to the US.

1,000-Strong Syrian Rebel Brigade Defects to ISIS

The Syrian Dawud Brigade, a 1,000-strong group of fighters formerly allied to the Islamic Front umbrella, has left its position in the Idlib Province and gone to Raqqa to join ISIS.

The brigade brought with it 100 vehicles, including 10 tanks seized from the Syrian Army during various battles, and is the largest defection so far to ISIS from any rival rebel faction.

The Islamic Front’s “Sham Army” wing downplayed the reports of defection, and insisted they had expelled Dawud, believing them to be a “fifth column” for ISIS.

That seems unlikely with the faction bringing such a large amount of vehicles and weapons with them, but does reflect growing acrimony between ISIS and the Islamic Front, which has claimed to have executed ISIS fighters in recent days.

It is a major embarrassment for the British government, after condemning the use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime during the bloody three-year civil war.

Macmillan backed Syria assassination plot

Nearly 50 years before the war in Iraq, Britain and America sought a secretive "regime change" in another Arab country they accused of spreading terror and threatening the west's oil supplies, by planning the invasion of Syria and the assassination of leading figures.

Newly discovered documents show how in 1957 Harold Macmillan and President Dwight Eisenhower approved a CIA-MI6 plan to stage fake border incidents as an excuse for an invasion by Syria's pro-western neighbours, and then to "eliminate" the most influential triumvirate in Damascus.

The plans, frighteningly frank in their discussion, were discovered in the private papers of Duncan Sandys, Mr Macmillan's defence secretary, by Matthew Jones, a reader in international history at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Is Gideon Levy the most hated man in Israel or just the most heroic?

Levy believes only one kind of pressure would bring Israel back to sanity and safety:

“The day the president of the United States decides to put an end to the occupation, it will cease. Because Israel was never so dependent on the United States as it is now. Never. Not only economically, not only militarily but above all politically. Israel is totally isolated today, except for America.” He was initially hopeful that Barack Obama would do this – he recalls having tears in his eyes as he delivered his victory speech in Grant Park – but he says he has only promoted “tiny steps, almost nothing, when big steps are needed.”

Levy uses a simple technique. He asks his fellow Israelis:how would we feel, if this was done to us by a vastly superior military power?

Arab Spring, Jihad Summer

Al-Baghdadi, born Ibrahim al-Badri in Samarra, is an average Sunni Iraqi cleric with a degree in pedagogy from the University of Baghdad. His alter ago was born after Shock and Awe in 2003, and soon metamorphosed into a de facto serial killer - blowing up Shi'ite kids at ice-cream shops or scores of women at Shi'ite weddings.

ISIL's track record in Syria includes banning every flag apart from its own; the destruction of any "polytheist" temple or sanctuary (except if it is Sunni); and strict imposition of Islamically correct women wear. Most of all, it is a track record of terror. This is not an army, rather a well-trained militia of professional mujahid, European passport holders included, with battlefield experience in Iraq, Afghanistan and, to a lesser degree, Chechnya. Heavy weaponizing is petrodollar-financed - the usual, wealthy "Gulf donors", which does not exclude official connections.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What frustrates me so intensely here is that it is US governmental policies which have created this mess in the first place, by waging an immoral and illegal war against Iraq for no damned good reason whatsoever, with the Bush administration lying through their teeth about their allegation that Hussein had "weapons of mass destruction."

And because of that, Americans now fully expect every member of the US government to lie to the American people, and the world, with impunity; the difference now, is that no Americans believe anything that the government tells them whatsoever.

Credibility on the part of the US government, 2014: epic fail.

The Superpower and the Caliphate

The jihadist die is cast, a point of no return for the U.S. strategy of projecting imperial power in the region through armed Islamic fundamentalist surrogates. The international jihadist network, which did not exist before the CIA, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan created it to undermine the leftist secular government of Afghanistan in mid-1979, has become a movement that can no longer be controlled. The physical contours of the ISIS caliphate, the movement’s dynamic new focal point, may prove indefensible, especially if the Americans decide they cannot avoid an all-out assault on their former asset. But, whatever the U.S. military response, the game plan that was hatched in 2011 for Libya, Syria, Iraq – for the whole region – is kaput, based as it is on the reliable deployment of jihadists as surrogates for NATO and Arab royals. Worse, the Arab oil potentates understand full well that their own regimes are now in grave danger from the indigenous monstrosity they have created.

As Shia Shrines Are Targeted and Tikrit Is Strangled, the Fiercest of Wars Lies Ahead

The meltdown of American and British policy in Iraq and Syria attracts surprisingly little criticism at home. Their aim for the past three years has been get rid of Bashar al-Assad as ruler of Syria and stabilise Iraq under the leadership of Nouri al-Maliki. The exact reverse has happened, with Mr Assad in power and likely to remain so, while Iraq is in turmoil with the government’s authority extending only a few miles north and west of Baghdad.

Webmaster's Commentary:

That absolutely nobody saw this coming demonstrates, very painfully clearly, that the pathological inability to think an idea through to its logical conclusion has been a requirement for hiring by the US government in the past administration, as well as the present one.

The invasion and occupation of Iraq, along with the training of militants to attack Syria, have absolutely not made Americans, or American interests, globally, more safe; these actions have done precisely the polar opposite.

Iran representing regional harmony

I would like other readers in the West to carefully consider what I have written, for a moment. Logically, we know a country cannot be simultaneously committed to supporting all Muslims around the world, and simultaneously be pursuing a violent sectarian agenda within Islam. Someone is obviously lying intensively on this issue, urges Harry Bentham.

Western depictions of the violence in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq as sectarianism somehow aggravated by the US’s regional adversary, Iran, are based on ignorance and blindness.

An example of this depiction of Iran can be found in US Senator John McCain’s June 16 statement on Iraq, in which he alleged Iran is pursuing a “narrow sectarian agenda” in the ongoing conflict in Iraq.

This, despite the fact that Iran has been supporting the forces maintaining Iraq’s territorial and social unity.

This is the diametric opposite of a sectarian policy, and Iran has been calling for reconciliation in both Iraq and Syria.

UK military’s secret plan to train Syrian rebels to topple Bashar al-Assad

The plan was the brainchild of General Sir David Richards, then chief of staff. ISIS Captures Syrian Towns, Key Oil Field

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant marched across eastern Syria near the border with Iraq on Thursday, seizing towns, villages and the country's largest oil field as rival rebel factions gave up the fight, activists said.

The extremist group -- which controls large parts of northern Syria and captured vast swaths of northern and western Iraq last month -- is now in almost full control of a corridor stretching from the Syrian border town of Boukamal to the government-controlled provincial capital of Deir el-Zour to the northwest.

Led by an ambitious Iraqi militant known as Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant this week unilaterally declared the establishment of an Islamic state, or caliphate, in the lands it has seized in Syria and Iraq. It proclaimed al-Baghdadi the head of its new self-styled state and demanded that all Muslims pledge allegiance to him.

How to Understand the ISIS Threat

I suspect that a paucity of reliable intelligence is being shoehorned into an acceptable narrative for policymakers to regurgitate. The promotion of the alleged threat includes a conflation of several quite separate issues. It is based on the indisputable fact that a number of young Muslims ostensibly citizens of European countries and the United States, some of whom are indigenous converts to Islam, have gone to perform jihad in the Middle East and South Asia. As the punditry would have it, they must be planning to return home some day and raise hell, a line of reasoning that has spawned several Congressional hearings hosted by the Rep. Peter King of New York on the so-called home-grown terrorism threat.

Israel claims Assad’s forces behind cross-border attack that killed teen

Israel’s Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said on Tuesday that military forces loyal to the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad were behind a cross-border attack that killed an Israeli teenager.

“We received all the analyses and intelligence: it was clear that it was Syrian authorities,” Lieberman told public radio.

“Assad’s forces fired at the Israeli civilian, on the vehicles that had stopped by the border, and they need to pay the price,” he added.

The 13-year-old Arab Israeli, the son of a defence ministry contractor, was killed on the Golan Heights on Sunday when a missile hit the car he was in with his father.

The army said it was a deliberate attack against Israel, but was initially uncertain as to whether regime or opposition forces were behind it.

Kurds say they warned MI6, CIA about ISIL

Five months ago, a Kurdish intelligence "asset" walked into a base and said he had information to hand over.

The capture by jihadists the month before of two Sunni cities in western Iraq was just the beginning, he said. There would soon be a major onslaught on Sunni territories.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), a renegade offshoot of al-Qaida, was about to take its well known co-operation with leftovers of the regime of Saddam Hussein, and his former deputy Izzat al-Douri, to a new level.

His handlers knew their source had always proved reliable, officials said, so they listened carefully as he said a formal alliance was about to be signed that would lead to the takeover of Mosul, Iraq's second largest city.

One would think the neoconservatives who engineered the Iraq War – the worst disaster for the United States since Vietnam – would never emerge from hiding.

Not so. With dazzling chutzpah, former Vice President Dick Cheney, the real power in the Bush administration, just claimed President Barack Obama was responsible for the growing mess in Iraq.

Obama is a wimp allowing America’s foes to run rampant across the Mideast and Eastern Europe, growled Cheney. He wants US troops to reoccupy Iraq, and maybe Syria. Cheney’s blustering was applauded by another over-the-hill dotard, Republican party leader Sen. John McCain.

Syria’s Press Conference the United Nations Doesn’t Want You To See

Yesterday at 11am, the Syrian Mission to the United Nations convened a press conference featuring people from the US who observed the recent elections.

Five minutes into the opening comments of Syrian Ambassador Bashar Al-Jaafari, the UN webcast cut off. The thousands of journalists, political analysts, and others who view UN webcasts each day from all over the world were denied the ability to watch the press conference, and hear what was said.

This is not the first time this has happened when Bashar Jaafari is speaking. This occurred on June 7th earlier this year, and on numerous occasions throughout 2013. Reporters at Inner City Press reported that this is not accidental, but was ordered by Michele DuBach, Acting Deputy Director-News & Media Operations.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In a nutshell, international observers found nothing at all suspicious in the recent Syrian Presidential elections. Assad won with a huge voter turnout. Iraq crisis: Militants 'seize Tikrit' after taking Mosul

Islamist insurgents in Iraq have seized the city of Tikrit, their second major gain after capturing Mosul on Tuesday, security officials say.

Tikrit, the hometown of former leader Saddam Hussein, lies just 150km (95 miles) north of the capital Baghdad.

Iraqi PM Nouri Maliki has vowed to fight back against the jihadists and punish those in the security forces who have deserted.

The insurgents are from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS).

ISIS, which is also known as ISIL, is an offshoot of al-Qaeda.

It controls considerable territory in eastern Syria and western and central Iraq, in a campaign to set up a Sunni militant enclave straddling the border.

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, I think we can reasonably come to the conclusion that the invasion and occupation of Iraq, coupled with the completely unsuccessful attempt at regime change in Syria, have resulted in a complete, epic, flustercluck for the United States government.

The lack of critical thinking, and zero knowledge of world history manifested by this Administration, has led to some really lousy decision making coming out of DC, and that is a real problem, both for Americans and for the world.

Syrian government begins releasing prisoners

Assad’s regime has begun releasing prisoners from government jails under the general amnesty that was announced Monday, AFP reports.

Is Washington Planning a Terrorist Operation against Syria in the Wake of the Elections?

There are indications that Washington and its allies are planning a new wave of destabilization involving the influx of weapons and death squads to be carried out in the wake of the June 3 Elections. This “civil war destabilization scenario” is to be supported by a new package of US military aid announced by President Obama on May 28th, less than a week before the June 3 elections.

In mid May, two weeks before the elections, Secretary of State John Kerry confirmed that the US and its allies “would increase all aspects of support for the mainstream Syrian opposition fighting to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad”.

Confirmed by John Kerry, these efforts consist in accelerating the flow of weapons to opposition fighters ahead of the elections:

Bashar Al-Assad won this election with almost 88% of the Syrian vote, but never mind what the Syrian people want: the US (and Israel) want regime change in Syria as a prelude to an attack against Iran, after the P5+1 talks with Iran are engineered to fail before the July 20th deadline here.

It has become an uncomfortable reality of being an American citizen that in the 21st century, those values for which I used to think this country stood, no longer exist.

There is no honor; there is no truth; there is no peace; there is no freedom; and their is no honoring of human rights in this country, or outside of it, when there are specific geopolitical outcomes which are desired by the rulership of this country.

It is rarely ever their kids who are going to be maimed for life, or killed outright, in what are essentially wars ultimately for private profit. That is why these immoral and illegal wars are fought; for private profit.

Al-Qaida leader dressed in 'drag' arrested by Syrian government

Syria's government troops on Tuesday arrested the commander of a ruthless and deadly al-Qaida group when he attempted to escape looking like a Muslim drag queen, according to Middle East news outlets. An army unit loyal to President Bashar al-Assad captured the Ahrar Al-Sham leader after the terrorist group was defeated in an intense battle, according to Fars News Agency.

An Illegitimate Election? Think again.

Syrian Refugees in Lebanon Vote in Presidential Elections. Massive Support for Assad.

Norweigan general leads UN team into Syria to talk about UN mission to verify cease-fire

A team led by a Norwegian major general arrived Thursday in Damascus to negotiate the possible deployment of U.N. monitors for any cease-fire between Syrian troops and rebel forces.

Ahmad Fawzi, a spokesman for peace envoy Kofi Annan, reported the arrival and said the U.N. is already asking members to contribute 200 to 250 soldiers to monitor a cease-fire that officials hope would start April 10.

Annan has asked the Norwegian major-general, Robert Mood, to begin discussing with the Syrian authorities “the eventual deployment of this U.N. supervision and monitoring mission,” Fawzi said.

Such a contingent would first have to be authorized by the 15-nation Security Council.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I frankly wouldn't hold my breath that magically, just because of a date on a calendar, that the "rebel forces" (read: hired mercs) will lay down their weapons, and sing "Kumbyah", along with Syrian forces.

My suspicion is that Annan pushed al-Assad for this deadline for cessation of hostilities because such a deadline is not achievable.

And what happens, then, on the 11th of April, if there has been no substantive cease-fire? And what world player will be willing, if not eager, to act, even without a UN mandate?

Were I a betting woman, I would not bet against some kind of "shadow NATO engagement" to bring about regime change, but the kind of involvement which couldn't quite be pinned directly on NATO by a very angered China and Russia, which would, reasonably, see such an action as an "end-run" against the UN, and done without any UN mandate whatever.

In Defense of Helen Thomas: What’s Wrong With History?

Helen Thomas’s recent request to purchase a table at the upcoming White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) annual dinner has been rejected.

In a comment on that story I said, “It’s hard to imagine anything more wrong than this.”

I base my opinion on the fact that the 91-year-old Thomas, a former WHCA president, is unique among American journalists, having covered 10 different presidential administrations in a career stretching back to Dwight Eisenhower.

It is because of Thomas as much as anyone else that women were first included at the WHCA dinner since, as the WHCA’s website mentions:

Syria: America Steps onto the Slippery Slope

As I've said before, the Syrian situation is such a mess that I don't claim to have a solution. And I guess that limits how indignant I can get about solutions that other people are pushing, including those that my government is pursuing. But could we at least be honest about we're doing? The U.S., by giving the rebels this communications equipment, is now officially helping Syrians kill other Syrians. That's a big step.

There was one other big development at the "Friends of Syria" conference that the Times story was about: Some Arab states are creating a $100 million fund to pay rebel soldiers. Put these two developments together and this looks a lot like the first few steps toward a thoroughgoing intervention by a coalition involving the U.S., Arab states, and others.

US: UN Must Act Against Syria After April 10 Deadline

A new UN Security Council resolution reiterating their approval of the Kofi Annan ceasefire deal in Syria and urging both sides to stop fighting by April 10 has been stalled on specific wording, with the US seemingly trying to work the resolution into some sort of mandate.

US Ambassador Susan Rice insisted that the United Nations has to act “urgently and seriously” against Syria once the April 10 deadline the Annan government agreed upon passes, assuming there is no halt to operations.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to US Ambassador Susan Rice to the UN: How do you get your Russian and Chinese counterparts on board with the wording of such a resolution?

And if you cannot get them on board with this UN Syrian resolution, Madam Ambassador, what then?!?!?Are we to expect NATO to attack and invade on the 11th?!?

And who the heck gave the US government the moral authority to speak for the world on this?!?

And Madam Ambassador, the short answer is, nobody!!

“Friends of Syria”—the antechamber of a wider Mideast war

The so-called “Friends of Syria” conference convened in Istanbul last Sunday marks a major escalation in fomenting civil war and preparing for direct imperialist intervention. What is envisioned and is being actively prepared is a bloodletting that will eclipse the death toll thus far in the Syrian conflict and a war that has the potential of triggering a global conflict threatening millions.

Led by Washington and its principal NATO allies—Britain, France and Germany—together with Saudi Arabia and the rest of the reactionary Persian Gulf oil monarchies and Turkey, the conference produced two substantive developments.
