A Straight Look at the Jewish Lobby

For many years Israel has violated well established standards of international law and has defied numerous United Nations resolutions in its occupation of conquered lands, in extra-judicial killings, and in its repeated acts of military aggression.

Most of the world regards Israel’s policies, and especially its oppression of Palestinians, as illegal and outrageous. This international consensus is reflected, for example, in numerous UN resolutions condemning Israel, which have been approved with overwhelming majorities.

“The whole world,“ said United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, “is demanding that Israel withdraw [from occupied Palestinian territories]. I don’t think the whole world… can be wrong.” [1]

Israel’s Dangerous Game with Syrian Al Nusra Islamists

Recently, Israeli TV aired an interview (Hebrew, at the 2:00 mark) with a wounded Syrian fighter who was treated in Israel after being evacuated from the combat zone. As I, and many other journalists have reported, Israel, despite the false claim of neutrality in the civil war, has frequently intervened in the conflict on behalf of forces opposed to Bashar al-Assad. It does this less because it opposes Assad himself, than because its arch-enemies, Iran and Hezbollah, are the regime’s strongest allies.

FLASHBACK - Israel, Genocide, and the ‘Logic’ of Zionism

History is full of ironies: World War I, marketed to Americans as a "war to end all wars," paved the way for an even more massive slaughter. The invasion and conquest of Iraq – which was supposed to augur what George W. Bush hailed as a "global democratic revolution" – instead ushered in a new era of chaos, bloodshed, and tyranny in the region. And in the year 2014, the state of Israel, founded in large part as a reaction to the Holocaust, has embarked on a policy of genocide in Gaza.

The Israelis and their international amen corner are increasingly open about this: a recent article in the Times of Israel – since taken down – was quite explicit in averring that Israel’s "right of self-defense" includes the option of wiping out the entire population of Gaza:

FLASHBACK - Why Israel Lies

All governments lie, as I.F. Stone pointed out, including Israel and Hamas. But Israel engages in the kinds of jaw-dropping lies that characterize despotic and totalitarian regimes. It does not deform the truth; it inverts it. It routinely paints a picture for the outside world that is diametrically opposed to reality. And all of us reporters who have covered the occupied territories have run into Israel’s Alice-in-Wonderland narratives, which we dutifully insert into our stories—required under the rules of American journalism—although we know they are untrue.

Vatican signs historic accord with Palestine

The Vatican on Friday signed a historic first accord with Palestine, two years after officially recognising it as a state.

The accord, a treaty covering the life and activity of the Church in Palestine, was the first since the Vatican recognised the Palestinian state in February 2013.

The treaty, which took 15 years of negotiations to complete, was agreed in principle last month and bitterly condemned by Israel as a setback for the peace process.

The Vatican’s recognition of the state of Palestine followed a November 12 vote in favour of recognition by the UN General Assembly.

Vatican officials have described it as reflecting the Church’s desire to see the conflict in the Holy Land resolved by a “two-state” solution.

Aside from being damaged by the fire, the church was also vandalized with Hebrew graffiti messages such as "Death to non-Jews" and "False idols will be eliminated." The incident marked the second time since last year the building has been attacked.

Sixteen Jewish seminary students were arrested, but they were released hours later. Thus far, the crime remains unpunished.

FLASHBACK - Is The Holocaust A New 'Religion'w/10 Commandments?

According to the Israeli philosophy professor Yeshayahu Leibowitz (photo), the 'Holocaust' is a new religion. Leibowitz' countrymen Shraga Elam, Gilad Atzmon, Yoshua Shalev and others have further developed this concept, reasoning like this: Most Jews today are either atheists or shun the religion of Judaism. Therefore, the Jewish people had to adopt belief in the 'Holocaust' as their new religion. They have spread this religion all over the world. 'Holocaust' museums are the new houses of worship and are present in most major cities. The new religion has its commandments, its decrees, its prophets, its high priests, its circle of saints, its rituals and its pilgrimages. It knows neither mercy, nor forgiveness, nor clemency but only the duty of vengeance. If you question the 'Holocaust Religion', you will go to prison.

Of the four million Syrians who have fled their war-torn country in recent years, at least 135,000 of them require immediate resettlement.

Today I Saw a Weeping Palestinian Man Holding a Plastic Bag of Meat: It Was His Son

I sense I’m breaking an unspoken rule with this letter, but I can’t keep quiet any more.

Today I saw a picture of a weeping Palestinian man holding a plastic carrier bag of meat. It was his son. He’d been shredded (the hospital’s word) by an Israeli missile attack – apparently using their fab new weapon, flechette bombs. You probably know what those are – hundreds of small steel darts packed around explosive which tear the flesh off humans. The boy was Mohammed Khalaf al-Nawasra. He was 4 years old.

I suddenly found myself thinking that it could have been one of my kids in that bag, and that thought upset me more than anything has for a long time.

Then I read that the UN had said that Israel might be guilty of war crimes in Gaza, and they wanted to launch a commission into that. America won’t sign up to it.

UN report blasts Gaza war tactics Israel has defended

An inquiry by a commission of the U.N. Human Rights Council into last summer’s Gaza conflict and an Israeli report issued last week on the same topic offer vastly divergent interpretations on the use of overwhelming Israeli firepower against militants from Hamas and other groups in a crowded civilian setting.

The Israeli report absolved the country’s military forces of violations, saying what happened is the consequence of fighting against a group that had taken up positions in crowded urban settings.

The United Nations report, which was issued Monday, asserted, however, that both Israel and Palestinian armed groups may have committed war crimes and that Israeli officials had brought no one to account.

Webmaster's Commentary:

No country on the planet is going to attempt to bring Israel to heel militarily for its wanton disregard for Palestinian life; we are dealing, here, with a viciously apartheid, self-proclaimed theocracy with nuclear weapons.

However, this is why the BDS movement must succeed; this speaks to both the Israeli government, and people, in a language they can readily understand.

THE UN’s BLURRED VISION

Israel systematically targeted Palestinian residential buildings and infrastructure without any apparent military justification. The horror of what Israel did, detailed in the 183-page report, cannot be adequately summarized here.

In total, 2,251 Palestinians were killed, including 1,462 Palestinian civilians, among them 551 children, the report states. More than 11,000 Palestinians, including 3,540 women and 3,436 children, were injured with almost 10 percent suffering permanent disabilities.

Six civilians died in Israel and more than 60 Israeli soldiers died in fighting with the Palestinian resistance.

But a key finding is that the mass destruction and killing inflicted by Israel, often amounting to war crimes, “may have constituted military tactics reflective of a broader policy, approved at least tacitly by decision-makers at the highest levels of the Government of Israel.”

Israel’s Response to Everything: Collective Punishment

International law is clear. Fourth Geneva’s Article 33 states:

“No protected person may be punished for an offence he or she has not personally committed. Collective penalties and likewise all measures of intimidation or of terrorism are prohibited.”

It doesn’t matter. Israel systematically ignores all international human rights, humanitarian and other laws it objects to – as well as dozens of earlier Security Council Resolutions condemning or censuring its actions and demanding they end, none in recent years because of US vetoes.

Monstrous Israeli Terror in Gaza

I read The Drone Eats With Me: Diaries from a City Under Fire by Atef Abu Saif in almost one sitting — resenting that I had to break to cook and eat dinner. These beautifully written searing diaries recounting each of the horrific 51 days of Israel’s monstrous war on the people of Gaza sweeps the reader into Atef’s anguished experience. An experience so dreadfully encompassing of the dark depths of human sentience that it is simultaneously personal and collective.

Lessons from the UN Gaza report: Next stop, ICC?

To the relief of Israel and the chagrin of many others, the UN report into last summer’s war in Gaza is not an indictment of Israel. It does not declare conclusively that Israel committed war crimes and it is certainly not one-sided. The Human Rights Council report released on Monday is valuable, nevertheless, when read as a preview of what might transpire in a much more consequential body investigating the 2014 war — the International Criminal Court.

Israeli settlers chop down 70 olive trees in Salfit, Nablus

Israeli settlers chopped down more than 70 olive trees between the towns of Yasuf and Jammain in the northern West Bank districts of Salfit and Nablus on Monday.

Palestinian farmers said the trees, which lay close to the illegal Israeli settlements of Ariel and Taffuh, had been cut down using chainsaws.

A local, Khalid Maali, said that because the land lay close to settler roads near the Zaatara checkpoint it had been easy for the settlers to flee afterwards.

The olive industry supports the livelihoods of roughly 80,000 families in the occupied West Bank, and the Salfit district in particular is known for its fertile soil and large olive trees.

Settlers attack olive trees in a bid to oust Palestinian farmers from their land, and a loss of a year's crops can cause destitution for farming families.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is worse than a year. It takes ten years of growth before an olive tree produces a usable crop.

Scathing reactions over Arab MK's participation in Gaza flotilla

oint Arab List MK Bassel Ghattas' decision to participate in the upcoming Gaza flotilla has caused an uproar in the Knesset on Monday.

Kulanu MK Meirav Ben-Ari (Kulanu) requested a special Knesset session on the matter, which was scheduled for Wednesday.

"The MK is making a cynical use of his immunity and looking to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with provocation rather than peace," Ben-Ari said. "A member of Knesset who acts against the Knesset and the State of Israel, his immunity should be reconsidered and the Knesset's Ethics Committee should examine this case."

In an interview with Ynet, Ghattas called MKs condemning his decision "hypocrites," saying they were "trying to make headlines at my expense. I want to remind them that Israel apologized over the Marmara affair."

U.N. Report on Gaza Finds Evidence of War Crimes by Israel and by Palestinian Militants

The Commission of Inquiry’s chairwoman, the American jurist Mary McGowan Davis, said at a Geneva news conference that the investigation had gathered testimony “in a scrupulously objective fashion.”

UN Court Seeks Prison Term for Journalist

The United Nations “Special Tribunal for Lebanon” (STL) was ostensibly set up to find and bring to justice the killers of Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri, who was murdered a decade ago along with more than 20 others in a massive bomb explosion. But rather than fulfilling its mandate after squandering some $500 million tax dollars, the UN court is seeking to put journalist Karma Khayat (shown) in prison for seven years — not for killing the late Lebanese leader, but for her groundbreaking reporting on the case that exposed the court’s stunning incompetence. The Hague-based UN outfit is also demanding that Khayat’s media outlet, Beirut-based TV news station Al-Jadeed, hand over up to $7 million in “fines.”

UN Suggests Top Officials Sanctioned Israel's War Crimes Against Gaza

A widely-anticipated United Nations inquiry into the 2014 attack on Gaza released Monday suggests that the Israeli government may have deliberately targeted Palestinian civilians during the assault, while the report concludes that both Israel and Hamas may be guilty of war crimes against humanity.

Davis was joined on the commission by Dr. Doudou Diene of Senegal, who formerly served as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.

UN commission finds evidence of war crimes by Israel, Hamas during 2014 Gaza war

The members of the commission, which was appointed by the UN Human Rights Council, hinted in their report that the upper levels of the Israeli political echelon were responsible for the policies that led to some of these war crimes.

“The extent of the devastation and human suffering in Gaza was unprecedented and will impact generations to come” said the commission’s American chairwoman, Justice Mary McGowan Davis. “There is also on-going fear in Israel among communities who come under regular threat.”

The chairwoman of the commission urged the international community to act on the conclusions of the report - primarily by supporting an investigation by the International Criminal Court in The Hague in to the status of the occupied Palestinian territories.

Israeli officials slammed the report, calling it "biased" and stained with "blood on its hand for allowing the murder of Jews."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Note that the corporate media are trying to create the impression that the war crimes were equal on both sides. What the UN report actually says is that they were overwhelmingly committed by Israel.

'War crimes' likely by both sides in 2014 Gaza conflict, says UN

According to the report, at least 142 families lost three or more members in an attack on residential buildings during last summer's war, resulting in 742 deaths.

"The fact that Israel did not revise its practice of air strikes, even after their dire effects on civilians became apparent, raises questions of whether this was part of a broader policy which was at least tacitly approved at the highest level of government," the commission said in a statement.

The commission also voiced concern that a sense of "impunity prevails across the board for violations ... allegedly committed by Israeli forces, whether it be in the context of active hostilities in Gaza or killings, torture and ill-treatment in the West Bank."

The investigators urged Israel to "break with its recent lamentable track record in holding wrongdoers accountable."

Sisi appoints Egypt's new ambassador to Israel

Egypt’s former envoy to the Arab League has been appointed as the country’s new ambassador to Israel.

According to a Sunday report by Egyptian state news agency MENA, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi named Hazem Khairat (seen below) as Cairo’s new ambassador to Tel Aviv.

Khairat formerly served as Egypt’s deputy foreign minister and also as the country’s ambassador to the South American country of Chile.

No information has been revealed on the exact date of the start of Khairat’s mission, but reports said that he will most probably be dispatched to Israel in September.

Sisi’s decision came three years after Egypt’s ousted president, Mohamed Morsi, recalled Atef Salem, Cairo’s last ambassador to Tel Aviv, to protest against the regime’s eight-day aggression against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip. Since then, the Egyptian embassy in Israel has had no top representative.

WaPo Propagandizes For Israeli Takeover Of More Syrian Land

The Washington Post is promoting the Israeli propaganda version of "protection" by obfuscating and lying about the events in the area. Here is the relevant headline on the Washington Post home page. "Israel's Druze minority" is threatened? Hmm ... that indeed would be news.

The section page then has a bit more correct headline talking about "Druze in the Golan". But it still does not inform who of the Druze, those on the Israeli side or those on the Syrian side of the demarcation line, are really threatened. Correcting the Zionist Narrative of Israel

The Zionist narrative exists to justify the existence of the state of Israel. It is the narrative that dominates the perspectives of the US and Canadian governments as well as the mainstream media in North America. But does this narrative reflect the truth? Or is it self-serving propaganda? After all, given this starting point, the inevitable outcome of establishing a Jewish state in Palestine was the ‘cleansing’ of the existing Arab population in that region because a Jewish majority was required to make a Jewish state viable.

BEX ALERT - Iran Still Supports Terrorism, State Department Finds

Iran continued its “terrorist-related” activity last year and also continued to provide broad military support to President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, the State Department said Friday in its annual report on terrorism.

Israel Furious that UN Report on Israel Mentions Israel So Much

Israeli officials are usually pretty mad at the UN for something they did or said, or didn’t do or didn’t say. Today, Ambassador Ron Prosor’s outrage centered around a new UN report on Israel’s treatment of Palestinian children in the occupied territories, a report he complains mentions Israel altogether too much.

The report was supposed to be something of a compromise. The UN issued a recent report on violence against children in warzones worldwide, and was facing intense US and Israeli pressure not to mention Israel in this, despite the large death toll among children in last summer’s Israeli invasion of Gaza. In the end, they didn’t mention Israel in that official report, but released a separate report about Israel.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel's government will take absolutely no responsibility for its serial genocide of Palestinian children.

I have to wonder what the founders of Israel would think about that; after the horrors of the Holocaust, one might think that modern day Israeli leaders would have at least a little compassion for "others", who are somehow "different".

Unfortunately, the nation into which Israel has devolved is a viciously apartheid, self-proclaimed theocracy, with nuclear weapons.

Breaking News: Israeli Arson Attack Burns Historic Lake Kinneret Catholic Church

Israeli media reports (a more bare-bones report in English) that Jewish terrorists have set fire to the historic Church of the Multiplication (of loaves and fishes) near Lake Kinneret. The building was extensively damaged though the sanctuary only received smoke damage. The Catholic Church stands in what once was the ancient village of Kfar Nahum (Capernaum), where Jesus plied his trade as a carpenter.
church of multiplication Jewish terror arson

Besides the fire, the attackers vandalized the building by scrawling graffiti derived from a major Jewish prayer that lauds Jews for worshipping God and derides non-Jews for worshiping idols. The phrase daubed on the wall was “their idols shall be destroyed.” This prayer, whose language is virulently anti-Christian, is often used by anti-Semites to argue (falsely) that Jews innately hate Christians. It appears these terrorists were seeking to make the anti-Semites point for them.

Context of 'February 1982: Article in Israeli Journal Says Israel Should Exploit Internal Tensions of Arab States'

The winter issue of Kivunim, a “A Journal for Judaism and Zionism,” publishes “A Strategy for Israel in the Nineteen Eighties” by Oded Yinon. The paper, published in Hebrew, rejects the idea that Israel should carry through with the Camp David accords and seek peace. Instead, Yinon suggests that the Arab States should be destroyed from within by exploiting their internal religious and ethnic tensions: “Lebanon’s total dissolution into five provinces serves as a precedent for the entire Arab world including Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and the Arabian peninsula and is already following that track. The dissolution of Syria and Iraq later on into ethnically or religiously unique areas such as in Lebanon, is Israel’s primary target on the Eastern front in the long run, while the dissolution of the military power of those states serves as the primary short term target. Syria will fall apart, in accordance with its ethnic and religious structure, into several states such as in present day Lebanon.”

What they don’t have are the intimate, granular insights that you get only by living through it — or, reading the diary of someone who has, and is also an eloquent, evocative writer.

For instance, do you know how to tell the difference between a missile from a ship, a tank, an F-16 or a drone, by their sound alone? How to prepare your windows when shelling is expected, and where it is safest to sleep? Or what happens to your sense of time in the midst of war?

Israel’s mockery of foreign war correspondents backfires

At a time when Israel has serious issues to deal with in Iran and Syria, it is disconcerting that the ministry would spend its time producing a 50-second video that attempts to ridicule journalists reporting on a conflict in which 2,100 Palestinians and 72 Israelis were killed.

Israel’s diplomatic corps wants to be taken seriously in the world. Posting misleading and poorly conceived videos on YouTube is inappropriate, unhelpful and undermines the ministry, which says it respects the foreign press and its freedom to work in Gaza.

Alan Dershowitz on Iran Deal: 'America's On Its Knees'

America has no allies on the proposed nuclear deal except for Iran and perhaps Syria, Dershowitz said. "America has picked the wrong side here and its lost its allies, and its allies now have to make alliances among themselves in order to prevent the implementation of a deal that will give Iran a nuclear weapon within 10 years."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Here's your rifle, Dershowitz...

Birthright celebrates its 500,000th participant

The Taglit-Birthright Israel program, which sends young Jews on free trips to Israel, celebrated its milestone 500,000th participant this week.

In a ceremony in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, 24-year-old Molly Dodd from New Jersey presented Birthright cofounders Michael Steinhardt and Charles Bronfman with framed letters from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from 1998, in which he gave his blessing for the program to begin.

Since 2000, approximately 500,000 Jews aged 18-26, from over 66 countries and all 50 US states, have gone on Birthright trips. The free 10-day Jewish identity-building trips immerse young adults in Israeli culture and Jewish history.

In addition, 65,000 Israelis have participated in Birthright’s Mifgash program, which brings together Israelis and Diaspora Jews.
