Washington state limits Stingray surveillance in unanimously approved ‘pro-privacy’ law

An anti-surveillance bill that brings unprecedented restrictions to cell phone tracking technology, not unlike that achieved through devices sold as “Stingrays,” has been signed into law in Washington state.

Governor Jay Inslee, a Republican, added his signature to HB 1440 on Monday this week, authorizing a law that effective immediately requires police officers to obtain search warrants before deploying “cell site simulators,” or devices that mimic the behavior of mobile phone towers.

Hillary Clinton Has 1 Day to Take a Serious Stand on One of the Biggest Corporate Trade Deals in US History

The Democratic Party is now in an all-out war over the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), with labor unions, environmentalists, and other public interest groups opposed to fast tracking the deal – which would allow it to have a vote with no amendments -- battling corporations and President Obama who are for fast track. The big vote on TPP in the US Senate is on Tuesday.

One voice who has been silent in this internecine conflict is Hillary Clinton. Clinton has refused to say whether she supports granting Obama fast track authority, let alone whether she supports the overall agreement. Her campaign chairman, John Podesta, recently joked to some donors that he wishes the deal would just “go away.” She has basically one day to come out and show where she stands on this issue and influence the outcome of the vote.

Rainwater collection being criminalized in U.S. to solidify total government dependence

You might be aware that it is illegal to collect rainwater on your own property in some states, but did you know that doing so could actually land you in jail? That is exactly what is happening to Gary Harrington of Eagle Point, Oregon. He is now facing a 30-day jail sentence and fines of more than $1,500.

His crime? Harrington has been collecting rainwater in three reservoirs on his property, and the government doesn't like it. In Oregon, all water is considered property of the state whether it flows from the tap or falls from the sky.

The Prison Gates Swing Open for US Peace Activists

Kathy Kelly is just out of prison, where she’d been sent for nonviolently opposing drone murders.

An appeals court has just overturned convictions for Megan Rice, Michael Walli and Gregory Boertje-Obed, imprisoned for entering and protesting a nuclear weapons site at Oak Ridge, Tenn., three years ago. Resentencing on lesser charges, and quite possibly immediate release, is expected.

Amazingly, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 that the government failed to prove that the activists intended to “injure the national defense.” (Maybe Venezuela, accused by President Obama of being a threat to the same, should appeal to the Sixth Circuit!)

The U.S. government has just dropped charges against eight members of the National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance who nonviolently protested the U.S. military’s environmental destruction with a march from the EPA to the Pentagon this past Earth Day.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These are small wins, in the battle for peace and justice, but they are wins.

When Obama Talks About His "Massive Fight" With Wall Street, What Exactly Does He Refer To?

On one hand, none other than the company whose very future depends on the continuity of the financial status quo (that would be Bloomberg whose 200,000 Bloomberg terminals are the cashflow lifeblood of the company and for which another financial crash would mean a huge hit to the bottom line as millions of financial workers are again laid off) has a cover story, as well as a cover, depicting Elizabeth Warren as Wall Street's bogeyman.

On the other hand, we now learn that Warren is also warning that Obama's pet trade project, the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) which is supposed to counter the ascendence of China in global trade, has been warning about the potential damage of the trade deal and has been arguing that the deal would cost American jobs (for more on the topic, see "Free Trade Is Plutocratic Propaganda").

And Obama is not happy: according to the NYT, Obama called Warren "absolutely wrong" in his criticism of the TPP.

How prisons have become a cash cow for the rich

And it’s not just the phone companies that are getting rich off prisoners’ phone calls.

Thanks to so-called “commissions” that can account for as much as 94 percent of the cost of a call, prison phone contracts have become a major source of revenue for state and local governments all across the country.

These glorified kickbacks have also become a source of revenue for prisons themselves, and they use them to pay for the health care and food services they’re already constitutionally required to provide.

In other words, like pretty much every other case of privatization over the past few decades, the rise of private prison phone contracts has nothing to do with “efficiency” or “improving services” and has everything do with making a quick buck for some crony capitalist with a bunch of Republican friends in Congress.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The privatization of prisons in this country has guaranteed an horrific rise in recidivism (re-offending, going back to prison), which means that the private prisons have become great investment opportunities (for people with the morals of a trout, that is).

Sweden is CLOSING many of its prisons, and why?!? Because the total focus of prison time is rehabilitation, rather than punishment, and reintegration with society when the prisoner is released.

It is a sane, and compassionate model, which is why it is completely ignored by the penal system here in the US.

DHS LATEST ATTEMPT TO KEEP THE PUBLIC IN FEAR, CLAIM LONE-WOLF ATTACKS COULD HAPPEN ANY DAY NOW

DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said Sunday that the United States is facing a new era in which a lone-wolf terrorist could “strike at any moment.”

Keeping the American public in fear is what It's all about. We can't have DHS/police budgets dry up right Mr. Johnson?

As a result, Johnson said, the federal government is making a greater effort to engage with state and local law enforcement and encourage them to be “vigilant” about what is happening in their communities. This last statement proves one DHS and our police are one entity and two they're complicit in using another false-flag to scare the public. Remember this is the very same DHS that lied and claimed malls were being targeted by ISIS when their budget was under attack.

Later DHS had to admit there were no credible threats to ANY malls in America.??

Webmaster's Commentary:

I can believe absolutely nothing anyone in the Federal government says anymore; I expect every one of its representatives to simply lie with impunity, to forward any agenda they fancy at any particular moment.

BBC WANTS GOOGLE TO REMOVE TOP GEAR’S IMDB PAGE

This week BBC Worldwide reported a record number of infringing links to Google, targeting more than 25,000 webpages. We decided to go through the links and it wasn’t hard to find several URLs that are clearly not infringing.

For example, one of the notices targets the IMDb pages of Top Gear, The Game and Top Fails.

The Internet Movie Database is one of the prime sources for movie and TV fans to get information and doesn’t host or link to infringing content, so taking these pages offline only hurts the BBC.

Perhaps even more worrying is that the same notice also lists the British home of the video site Dailymotion as “infringing.” While this page may have linked to unauthorized material in the past, it’s certainly doesn’t warrant the removal of the entire homepage.

US fall from virtuous republic to tragic-comic empire described perfectly by Roman historians

*hyperlinks live at source*

The ancient Greek historian, Polybius, celebrated the Roman republic of ~ 150 BC under its constitution with balance of powers among the Senate, two elected consuls, and the general citizens:

“Such being the power that each part has of hampering the others or co-operating with them, their union is adequate to all emergencies, so that it is impossible to find a better political system than this.” - The Histories, Book VI, Section V: On the Roman Constitution at its Prime

Americans and people around the world were equally proud of the United States Constitution as “impossible to find a better political system than this.”

About 100 years after Polybius’ account, Rome’s republic had descended into oligarchic competition for power. Contemporary to Julius Caesar, the Roman historian and government insider Sallust blasted the decline of virtue in government:

The official slogan of Operation Jade Helm 15, “Master the Human Domain,” is just one of many oddities surrounding the eight-week Pentagon training that’s fomented anger and suspicion in Bastrop County and other rural parts of Texas. In bile-green text, the phrase is placed beneath the operation’s logo of a double-edged sword, two crossed arrows and a translucent wooden clog — yes, a clog — all of which have become fodder for widespread, baseless conspiracy theories that the Army Special Operations Command is planning a martial law takeover of Texas come July.

Scott Walker Targets Jeb Bush in South Carolina Speech
***
“From our family, we didn’t inherit fame or fortune, what we inherited was the belief that if you work hard and you play by the rules you can do and be anything you want,” he said.
***
...In South Carolina, he offered a subtle corrective, noting that he is headed to Israel later today and assuring the audience — which was full of military service-members and their families — that he cares about national security as much as anyone.

Walker said he prefers to use the term “safety,” rather than national security.
“National security is something you read about in the newspaper; safety is something you feel,” he said. “It’s something that — even though as a governor I don’t deal with it day in and day out — it has increasingly become one of the most important things for me to focus in on, because when I think about safety, I think about my own children and I think about yours as well.”

Will Central Banks Abolish Cash?

By Mark Nestmann

Cash has never been a popular asset with the totalitarian set. It’s difficult, if not impossible, to trace. Cash makes it possible to do business “off the books.”

For decades, with the US leading the effort, governments have engaged in a War on Cash. The original justification for this war was to fight racketeering. The War on Cash morphed into the War on Drugs, then the War on Money Laundering, and subsequently, the War on Terror.

But now, central banks and their lackey governments have a new rationale for the War on Cash: the very existence of cash makes it more difficult to enforce negative interest rates...

Panic on Mass Common Core Test Refusals, Threaten Reprisals

Public resistance to Common Core is exploding across America, and officials are not happy about it. The Obama administration’s Department of Education, along with pro-Common Core government officials across the country under pressure from the feds, appear to be in panic mode. Facing a growing nationwide “opt out” movement to refuse participation in the unconstitutional federally funded testing regime aligned with the Obama-backed national school standards, senior bureaucrats, including Education Secretary Arne Duncan, have actually started resorting to lawless threats against parents, teachers, students, and entire state governments. Some parents were threatened by officials with jail time. Even small children are being punished by the state for “opting out” of the deeply controversial tests, with one California mother telling The New American that her daughter was publicly denied ice cream in retaliation.

But so far, the threats are only emboldening the opposition.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have known teachers hired by a private education organisation to implement Common Core here in Hawaii: it was an unmitigated disaster; prevented the kids from truly learning; discouraged critical thinking; and made the child feel like little more than a herd animal.

One of the outcomes I would love to see happen from this growing federalization of education is a massive movement toward home schooling, either individual or group, and supported by states which are truly education friendly.

US Tells Greece To Reject Putin Pipeline Marking Return To Cold War Politics

In short order, it leaked that Moscow was set to advance Greece $5 billion against the future potential profits from the pipeline, a payment which we characterized as a get-out-of-Troika-jail free card and although conflicting reports emerged thereafter regarding just how soon money would actually be flowing from Moscow to Athens, discussions around the pipeline continued to move forward when Gazprom chief Alexei Miller visited Greece late last month to discuss “current energy issues of interest.”

That visit proved more than Europe could bear, and so the European Commission promptly filed antitrust charges against the Russian gas giant in an absurdly transparent attempt to punish the Kremlin for interfering in negotiations between the EU and its Aegean debt serf.

The US is applying political pressure to Greece in an effort to dissuade Athens from participating in Russia's Turkish Stream Pipeline project which has been implicitly used, at various times, as a negotiating tactic in discussions with EU creditors. This consternation is beginning to manifest itself in the revitalization of Cold War politics.

Egyptian court sentences Mubarak, sons to three years in jail

A previous court decision to drop charges against him of conspiring to kill protesters in the uprising, centered in Cairo's Tahrir Square, and the release of some of his associates from jail have cast doubt over Egypt's political transformation.

Last May, Mubarak was sentenced to three years in prison on charges of diverting public funds earmarked to renovate presidential palaces and using the money to upgrade family properties. His two sons were given four-year jail terms in the same case.

In January, Egypt's high court overturned the convictions, and the case went back to court for retrial.

"The ruling of the court is three years in prison without parole for Mohamed Hosni Mubarak and Gamal Mohamed Hosni Mubarak and Alaa Mohamed Hosni Mubarak," Judge Hassan Hassanein announced on Saturday.

Jade Helm:Some Thoughts From Army ATC and Friends

by ArmyATC » Sat Apr 04, 2015 3:16 pm
A lot of people are trying to decode what jade Helm means. But very few are looking at the second line , which is the overall mission objective.

In combat ops there are 5 phases of combat. I'm not going to go into detail, but you can find it. But phase 0 operations are relatively new. In the NDAA 2014, if you read through it, it provides increasing the budget for phase 0 operation.

What this is. Well this has to do with using infiltration techniques to identify who will be a problem BEFORE the fighting begins. Identifying individuals and groups that would be assessed by the military as possible non state actors.

That way, they can extract these individuals before ops begin thus severely limiting organized resistance.

McRaven: Success in Human Domain Fundamental to Special Ops

While special operations forces are comfortable in the realms of traditional warfare, the human domain is perhaps more important -- both to the troops and to policy makers, McRaven said.

The human domain encompasses the totality of the physical, cultural, and social environments that influence human behavior, he explained. Success in this domain won't be achieved by traditional ground, naval or air forces, he added.

“Instead, success in the human domain will depend upon understanding the human terrain and establishing trust with those humans who occupy that space,” the admiral said. Building understanding and trust takes time, but once it’s built, “we can apply unique capabilities that are designed to assess, analyze, operate and prevail in population-centric strategies or struggles,” he said.

The Human Terrain System (HTS) is a United States Army, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) support program employing personnel from the social science disciplines – such as anthropology, sociology, political science, regional studies and linguistics – to provide military commanders and staff with an understanding of the local population (i.e. the "human terrain") in the regions in which they are deployed

A Brief Overview Of ABI And Human Domain Analytics

In Iraq, the Intelligence Community was tasked with finding terrorists and insurgents bent on harming US Forces and their interests. These terrorists or insurgents rarely performed activities that were dissimilar from non-terrorists (especially in the planning phases). In terms of Iraqi mysteries, the questions were “Will something happen?” and “How can we predict it and prevent it?” Analysts began to develop techniques to address these mysteries using any means at their disposal to aggregate these activities, assess transactions, and develop networks of interest.

Thinking Differently: Unlocking the Human Domain in Support of the 21st Century Intelligence Mission

People are the currency of the human domain; their visible behaviors and symbols are one of the only ways to really discern their thoughts and motivations. Add in the cultural complexity of differing worldviews, beliefs and values that play on those thoughts and motivations and the domain becomes even less certain to decode. Factor in that U.S. military and civilian personnel directly, and indirectly, influence the course of interactions and behavior in the domain and the human domain becomes incredibly layered and dense, where meaning and purpose is difficult to extract and effort and skill necessary for success within the domain difficult to master.

Adaptations Required To Survive In The Human Domain

Indeed,if America ever finds itself once again contesting in wars in which the object is not the destruction of enemy forces but instead to influence relevant populations toward our desired ends, then Army formations and land forces must understand the people they are trying to influence.

US Government: Court cannot review wrongful executive secrecy

The Obama Administration today told a US appeal court that it had no right to challenge the wholesale suppression of video evidence of prisoner abuse at Guantánamo Bay.

Lawyers for the Administration insisted that every single frame of video evidence – no matter how disturbing or unlawful- must remain an unchallengeable secret, beyond the review of judges or the public right of access.

The Administration further defended its absolute right to classify any information wrongfully — such as, hypothetically, censoring the Gettysburg address.

Snoopers' charter set to return to law as Theresa May suggests Conservative majority could lead to huge increase in surveillance powers

The Conservatives are already planning to introduce the huge surveillance powers known as the Snoopers’ Charter, hoping that the removal from government of the Liberal Democrats that previously blocked the controversial law will allow it to go through.

The law, officially known as the Draft Communications Data Bill, is already back on the agenda according to Theresa May. It is expected to force British internet service providers to keep huge amounts of data on their customers, and to make that information available to the government and security services.

Border Patrol Agent Tases, Tackles, Handcuffs Woman for Questioning his Authority

A 21-year-old criminal justice major with aspirations to become a Border Patrol Agent ended up tackled, tased and handcuffed at an immigration checkpoint in New York Thursday after she began demanding to know why they were detaining her.

The two agents told her they had ordered into the secondary checkpoint at Waddington, which lies on the border of Canada, because she “appeared nervous.”

But she didn’t sound nervous in the video she posted on Facebook as she peppered them with questions about her detainment.

Although they found no drugs in her car, she said she may now be charged with assault on a federal officer, even though it is clear from the video that he had attacked her.

Kentucky ‘free range’ family loses custody of 10 kids over apparent ‘unschooling’

entucky “off-grid” family had their 10 children seized this week by authorities, and their supporters say they were targeted “simply because the government disagrees with their lifestyle and their educational choices.”

An anonymous tip sent sheriff’s deputies Wednesday to the 26-acre rural Breckenridge County home of Joe and Nicole Naugler, who document their “back to basics” lifestyle on social media.

They believe the complaint was lodged by an acquaintance who threatened to report the family to Child Protective Services during a Facebook feud with Joe Naugler.

The father was away with eight of the couple’s children when deputies arrived, and Nicole Naugler – who is five months pregnant – tried to drive away with the couple’s two oldest sons, according to a fundraising page set up by the family.

Investigators attempted to question the teens away from their mother, and she was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest when deputies said she interfered.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would almost be willing to bet that these kids spoke better, were better at critical thinking, and understanding math and science than most of their contemporaries in public school.

Some spelling bees across the country have banned home schooled kids because they do so much better than do their public school educated counterparts.

But when your children can be taken away from you simply because you educate differently, you no longer can be part of a free society or country.

IN A COP CULTURE, THE BILL OF RIGHTS DOESN’T AMOUNT TO MUCH

“In a democratic society,” observed Oakland police chief Sean Whent, “people have a say in how they are policed.”

Unfortunately, if you can be kicked, punched, tasered, shot, intimidated, harassed, stripped, searched, brutalized, terrorized, wrongfully arrested, and even killed by a police officer, and that officer is never held accountable for violating your rights and his oath of office to serve and protect, never forced to make amends, never told that what he did was wrong, and never made to change his modus operandi, then you don’t live in a constitutional republic.

You live in a police state.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I guess I am enormously lucky to have never, in almost 66 years on this planet, had a confrontation with a police officer. Yes, I have had some speeding tickets (which I earned) and some parking tickets at metered spaces, which I also earned.

But I have a hard time around wrapping my head around the reality that for many Americans, they are thought to be guilty until proven innocent, which is a throwback to French law under Code Napoleon. I can understand suspects running away from police, because they are terrified of getting killed, even for the slightest, most trumped up charge, of which they are totally innocent.

These are really dark, difficult days in which to be an American.

Guns and Butter censored for first time in 11 years: show was about vaccine safety

Just to let you know, Bonnie Faulkner from Guns and Butter got word the other day from Pacifica KPFA that they would not be airing her interview with Gary Null about the recent vaccination bills currently floating around congress. The broadcast also discussed vaccine safety. This is the first time in 11 years that she has had a show censored.

Why, of all the controversial subjects she has handled over the years, are they going after her for a show on vaccines? This is outrageous as we have a couple of terrible bills that people should be educated about especially now before they become law.

Please call the station to complain about this censorship and demand they air it.

Vermont kidnaps and forcibly drugs teen after mother sought help for her anxiety

A simple visit to the hospital to help her daughter manage her anxiety has turned into a nightmare for Karen Maple and her child, Elissa. What should have been a trip to discuss possible options for Elissa led to the hospital's decision to whisk the Vermont teenager to a mental ward several hours away in Massachusetts.(1)

Understandably, Karen was upset to see such a drastic option unfold and, therefore, expressed her dissatisfaction over the decision. Apparently, that didn't set well with certain authorities; just like a page from Orwell's do-like-we-do-or-else book 1984, the Department of Children and Families (DCF) took over, assuming custody of Elissa.

IRS shocks federal judges with statement on targeting conservatives

According to critics of the Obama administration and the IRS, Americans must endure one of the most progressive and intrusive tax-collecting systems in the world. "It appears that the IRS which is supposed to be non-political has been turned into a 'sword' against anyone who dares to disagree with Obama's radical agenda," claims political strategist Mike Baker. "And while the IRS mercilessly pursues average Americans, they permit tax cheats such as Rev. Al Sharpton, who owes the IRS at least $4 million in taxes, to have access to the Obama White House and other parts of the administration. It's believed he's being let off because he has a TV show on MSNBC on which he echoes the Obama White House propaganda and talking points" Baker alleges.

A fantasy that explains Globalism

The Delaware state government suddenly passes a law saying that importers can buy shoes from the company in Indiana and bring them into Delaware for sale. There will be no import tariffs of any kind.

The citizens of Delaware protest. They point out that this law will kill the shoe company in Delaware. Their state government tells them; the law is the law.

And this whole Indiana-Delaware arrangement is mislabeled free-market capitalism or free trade.

It’s a market, but it isn’t free. The workers carrying the load in Indiana are under the gun. Nowhere in their state can they earn more than a few cents an hour.

This isn’t capitalism. It’s Globalism.

Courts Won't Stop Data-Hungry Feds

A federal appeals court in New York on Thursday ruled that the once-secret National Security Agency program that is systematically collecting Americans' phone records in bulk is illegal. The decision comes as a fight in Congress is intensifying over whether to end and replace the program, or to extend it without changes.

In a 97-page ruling, a three-judge panel for the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit held that a provision of the USA Patriot Act known as Section 215 cannot be legitimately interpreted to allow the bulk collection of domestic calling records.

Webmaster's Commentary:

FRB Bail-ins: You Don’t Own Your Money

While shocking to some, the bail-in strategy is completely legal. Client account holders can only profess ignorance which – when it comes down to it – will not be enough to protect them. Knowingly, or unknowingly, account holders are investors and not savers.

The event in Cyprus is and will not be an isolated event. We know this because the outline for it happening elsewhere has already been clearly stated and put in writing. The G20 seems to be preparing for a normalization of bail-ins. In Canada, a bail-in regime was announced already in the 2013 budget.

This means that all bank issued debt instruments can be used to save the banks. Demand deposits and guaranteed investment certificates are debt instruments created by the banks which they can do whatever they feel with.

Canada passes anti-terror bill that's bad news for online privacy

An anti-terrorism bill with huge ramifications for online privacy has won over the Canadian House of Commons, despite all the protests held against it across the country. If it becomes a law, C-51, or the Anti-Terrorism Act, will give spy agencies the power to gather more information from its citizens than before. It'll even allow the government to monitor passport applications, since it also broadens authorities' rights to place names on the no-fly list. Further, it will allow sharing of its citizens' information across government agencies, departments and institutions -- and there are many, ranging from the Revenue Agency and the Armed Forces to Food Inspection and Public Health.

Worse, they can share people's info not just on grounds of national security, but also for reasons such as the "economic or financial stability of Canada."

US appeals court: NSA phone record collection is excessive

The government's bulk collection of millions of Americans' telephone records after the Sept. 11 terror attacks exceeds what Congress has allowed, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday.

However, the 2nd Circuit declined to block the program, saying it is now up to Congress to decide whether and under what conditions it should continue.

That's an idea former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has harped on time and time again during his political career.

And while he didn't explicitly talk about it today during his presidential announcement, it's bound to pop up some time during his campaign.

That's because most Republicans agree that the US is a Christian nation. In fact, according to one recent survey, 57 percent of them actually want to establish Christianity as the official state religion of our republic.

But at the very least, we know what “JADE” is an acronym for: Joint Assistance for Deployment and Execution, a program designed to create action and deployment plans using computer models meant to speed up reaction times for military planners during a “crisis scenario.”

Government Using Subprime Mortgages to Pump Housing Recovery – Taxpayers will Pay Again

It seems hard to believe, but your government is purposely recreating the mortgage debacle of 2007 and putting you on the hook for the billions in losses coming down the road. In their frantic effort to generate the appearance of economic recovery they are willing to gamble with taxpayer’s money while luring unsuspecting blue collar folks into buying houses they can’t afford.

What to Expect From an Economic Collapse

Financial collapses are always caused by governments. Every government which has ever existed has been greedy, always wanting more money, so that they can spend it on more programs. The problem is that there is only a limited pool of money available and government officials recognize that overtaxing the working public will eventually lead to mutiny.

Seven bizarre conspiracy theories which turned out to be true

The government giving STIs to black men without their knowledge, police lying about the deaths of people who just went out to watch the football and an impostor who helped start a war are among these bizarre-sounding conspiracy theories that actually turned out to be true. Don’t read on if you ever want to trust anyone again.

Military Readies Mountain Fortress to “Shield Against EMP Attack”

The government powers that be are preparing for continuity under any conditions.

‘The grid is utterly unprotected from an EMP attack. It’s not adequately protected from cyber or physical sabotage,’ Pry told FOX. ‘It’s why North Korea and Iran want the bomb, have the bomb. North Korea has actually practiced this against the United States.’ (source)

Now, the military is making preparations to spend more than $1 billion to move vital equipment and personnel back to the Cheyenne Mountain bunker-fortress. Essential to Cold War contingencies and operations, today, the facility offers a place for continuity of government (COG) to take hold in case of the worst.

French Law Forces Backdoors On ISPs

A translated post on OVH's statement shows some of the real dangerous of this law.

... Requiring French hosts to accept real-time capture of connection data and the establishment of "black boxes" with blurred in infrastructure, means giving French intelligence services access and visibility into all data traveling over networks. This unlimited access insinuate doubt among customers of hosting providers on the use of these "black boxes" and the protection of their personal data.
OVH.com

We can all argue in favor of end-to-end encryption, SSL everywhere, ... but that doesn't change the fact that your government is forcing the internet providers in your country to install and maintain a backdoor, so French law enforcement can intervene and spy at their own choosing.

It's a sad day for France and a sad day for ISPs and hosting providers in general.

THE COMPUTERS ARE LISTENING - HOW THE NSA CONVERTS SPOKEN WORDS INTO SEARCHABLE TEXT

Most people realize that emails and other digital communications they once considered private can now become part of their permanent record.

But even as they increasingly use apps that understand what they say, most people don’t realize that the words they speak are not so private anymore, either.

Top-secret documents from the archive of former NSA contractor Edward Snowden show the National Security Agency can now automatically recognize the content within phone calls by creating rough transcripts and phonetic representations that can be easily searched and stored.

The documents show NSA analysts celebrating the development of what they called “Google for Voice” nearly a decade ago.

Following "Terrorist-Fighting" Ban On Cash, France Passes "Le Patriot Act"

In its efforts to 'protect' its citizens from terrorists, France deemed it necessary in March to "fight against the use of cash and anonymity in the French economy," and drastically reduced the public's freedom and privacy to spend. Today, that freedom and privacy took another blow as the French government passed "Le Patriot Act" dramatically beefing up the government's spying powers.

French lawmakers approve sweeping new spying powers

PARIS: French lawmakers overwhelmingly approved a new law on Tuesday granting the state sweeping powers to spy on its citizens despite criticism from rights groups that the bill is vague and intrusive.

The law has been in the works for some time but gained additional support after a jihadist killing spree in January that left 17 dead and saw the capital gripped with fear for three days.

France is still on high alert as it has received repeated threats from jihadist groups abroad and was reminded of the peril of homegrown extremism when police thwarted a planned attack on a church two weeks ago.

(*France sure has been working hard , to get this bill passed .
Working the BEX , that is .)

Here is Jeb Bush’s Cinco de Mayo message to Mexican-Americans

“Here in the U.S., Cinco de Mayo has become a day where we celebrate our ties with Mexico and the great contributions of the Mexican-American community in the U.S.,” he said in Spanish, with subtitles running underneath. “In my case, this relationship is very profound. My wife Columba was born in Mexico, my family has always had strong ties with Mexico and I have great respect and affection for our neighboring country.”

FLASHBACK - 9th Circuit Upholds Ban on Bus Ads About Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

In an editorial published Friday, the Los Angeles Times has lambasted the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals for upholding the decision of Seattle’s transit system to block ads that denounced the U.S. for supporting “Israeli war crimes”–and all ads relating to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Florida county seeks independent review board after 97% of officer-involved shootings ‘justified’

A county commissioner in Palm Beach, Florida doesn’t want law enforcement agencies in the jurisdiction to be the only ones looking into their own officer-involved shootings and use-of-force incidents. She wants an independent board to investigate, too.

At a meeting Tuesday, Palm Beach County Commissioner Priscilla Taylor will ask the county to create an independent board that would review officer-involved shootings and use-of-force incidents alongside the police department. The review board would cover all law enforcement agencies in the county.

Taylor said she was spurred into action after reading about disturbing patterns of violence by sheriff’s deputies in Palm Beach County.

Court Asked Why There's No Expectation Of Privacy In Cell Location Data, But An Expectation Of Privacy In The Cellphone Itself

The government continues to argue that the Third Party Doctrine trumps the Fourth Amendment. Almost any "business record" created intentionally or inadvertently can be had by the government without a warrant. Even if the citizen in question has no ability to control what's collected by third parties (without forgoing the service entirely) or is completely unaware that it's happening, the government claims records of this type have no expectation of privacy.

FEDERAL JUDGE RULES FBI CAN PUT A GPS DEVICE ON YOUR CAR IF THEY CONSIDER YOU A 'THREAT'

A federal judge threw out claims by a California man who became a media sensation after he found a government GPS tracker in his car.

Yasir Afifi says he was due for an oil change in October 2010 when he discovered the GPS device. Based on feedback he received after uploading photos of the device onto the Internet, Afifi determined that it was government issued.

FBI agents descended on Afifi's apartment that day, and two unmarked vehicles followed Afifi when he went out, his amended complaint alleges. When the agents pulled him over, they allegedly admitted that the bureau had been tracking Afifi's movements. Afifi says he turned over the tracker as these agents inquired as to whether he was a threat to national security and if he had traveled to Yemen.
The encounter allegedly ended with Kanaan informing Afifi that the bureau did not consider him a security threat and he returned the GPS device to the agents.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Absoflippinglutely unbelievable!!

Apparently, Judge Howell needs a remedial course in the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Spying on people is not going to prevent terroristic acts against this country or its assets. Not mucking about in other people's countries to extract their resources, to which this government has absolutely no moral claim, will, however.

But, of course, THAT...would be logical!!!

A short memo to the NSA - yes, I'm talking about YOU GUYS (and gals).

NEWS FLASH: The baddies have the horse sense to either encrypt their email, or don't use traceable telephones for conversation.

Mike set out 6 NSA decryption challenges on this website, which none of you were able to break, just to point out that you CANNOT surveille all people all the time. And we are NOT terrorists; just, at times, severely irritating, because we wish we could believe anything this government says, which these days is nearly impossible.

I am very sure that when you have someone surveille Mike and me, it's punishment duty. They will hear such inflammatory language over the phone such as "Sweetheart, could you please pick up an onion for the meatloaf?!?"

Danish anti-Israeli settlement Ads bad, NY anti-Muslim ads good

The advertisements were put on 35 buses in the Danish capital and featured two women and the quote: “Our conscience is clean! We neither buy products from the Israeli settlements nor invest in the settlement industry.”

But Movia said they dropped them after four days because of the number of inquiries they received about what the Danish Palestinian Friendship Association stands for, AFP reports.

[We] “received a significant number of inquiries regarding the Danish Palestinian Friendship Association’s campaign against Israeli settlements.”

The company declined to comment but released a statement saying the ads were “unnecessarily offensive.”

Christian Juhl, a lawmaker from the Red-Green Alliance, said that he thought the decision by the bus company was “embarrassing.”

Meanwhile, in New York, a bus ad by renowned Islamophobe, Pam Geller, that is easily more hateful and offensive was shoved down our throats by court decree.

Canada poised to pass anti-terror legislation despite widespread outrage

Widespread protest and souring public opinion has failed to prevent Canada’s ruling Conservative Party from pushing forward with sweeping anti-terror legislation which a battery of legal scholars, civil liberties groups, opposition politicians and pundits of every persuasion say will replace the country’s healthy democracy with a creeping police state.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is looking forward to an easy victory on Tuesday when the House of Commons votes in its final debate on the bill, known as C-51. But lingering public anger over the legislation suggests that his success in dividing his parliamentary opposition may well work against him when Canadians go to the polls for a national election this fall.

No legislation in memory has united such a diverse array of prominent opponents as the proposed legislation, which the Globe and Mail newspaper denounced as a a plan to create a “secret police force”.

“Your client needs to resolve this or litigate it,” Mr. West wrote. “But publicity about it doesn’t help. It just ratchets up feelings in the agency.” He concluded with a settlement offer in which the government would keep half the money.
