The Emperor’s New Clothes: The Naked Truth About the American Police State

It’s vogue, trendy and appropriate to look to dystopian literature as a harbinger of what we’re experiencing at the hands of the government. Certainly, George Orwell’s 1984 and Animal Farm have much to say about government tyranny, corruption, and control, as does Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World and Philip K. Dick’s Minority Report. Yet there are also older, simpler, more timeless stories—folk tales and fairy tales—that speak just as powerfully to the follies and foibles in our nature as citizens and rulers alike that give rise to tyrants and dictatorships.

Obama Won't Go to the Border Because He's 'Not Interested in Photo Ops'

Obama spoke in Dallas on Wednesday after meeting with Texas Governor Rick Perry, and he was asked the big question everyone has been asking — why does he refuse to go to the border and gaze upon the burgeoning crisis his policies helped cause with his own eyes?

The president's response will crack you up:

"This is not theater. This is a problem. I'm not interested in photo ops."

Yep. That's right, you guys. This isn't theater, and Obama isn't interested in photo ops.

Besides, he's sending people there for him, like Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson. Why? Because Obama's a very busy guy. He has things to do.

It's not like he's already there in Texas anyway fundraising or anything.

Alone among the governments in the world, Washington requires sovereign governments to follow Washington’s laws even when Washington’s laws contradict the laws of sovereign countries.

London Mayor Boris Johnson spent more than US$370,000 (£218,000) on the water cannons, without waiting for the central government's approval. German police confirmed to the Guardian that the water cannons have now arrived in the UK.

Dept. of Justice: Corporations Are People... Gitmo Prisoners Are Not

Lawyers for the Obama administration declared in a court document filed Tuesday that people detained by the U.S. at the Guantánamo Bay prison are not "persons" protected by the U.S. Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA).

The argument came in response to a lawsuit filed on behalf of two men held at Guantánamo—Emad Hassan from Pakistan and Ahmed Rabbani from Yemen—charging that if the U.S. Supreme Court granted the corporation Hobby Lobby the status of a protected "person" under the RFRA, people incarcerated at the offshore prison should also be afforded religious protections.

Iraq says “terrorist groups” have seized nuclear materials used for scientific research at a university in the country's north. Iraq's UN envoy has appealed for help to "stave off the threat of their use by terrorists in Iraq or abroad."

According to Iraq's UN ambassador, Mohamed Ali Alhakim, about 40 kilograms of uranium compounds were kept at Mosul University. He added that such materials "can be used in manufacturing weapons of mass destruction."

"Terrorist groups have seized control of nuclear material at the sites that came out of the control of the state," Alhakim told UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in the July 8 letter obtained by Reuters on Wednesday.

Files on UK role in CIA rendition accidentally destroyed, says minister Rights groups say FCO claim records of flights in and out of Diego Garcia missing due to water damage 'smacks of cover-up'

The government's problems with missing files deepened dramatically when the Foreign Office claimed documents on the UK's role in the CIA's global abduction operation had been destroyed accidentally when they became soaked with water.

In a statement that human rights groups said "smacked of a cover-up", the department maintained that records of post-9/11 flights in and out of Diego Garcia, the British territory in the Indian Ocean, were "incomplete due to water damage".

The claim comes amid media reports in the US that a Senate report due to be published later this year identifies Diego Garcia as a location where the CIA established a secret prison as part of its extraordinary rendition programme. According to one report, classified CIA documents state that the prison was established with the "full cooperation" of the UK government.

U.S. officials played a role in Chilean killings following 1973 coup, says Chilean judge

It happened 41 years ago, but the aftershocks of an event known in Chile as “el once” continue to reverberate still.

Pronounced “el own-say,” the phrase means “the eleventh,” and it refers to the military coup on September 11, 1973, that overthrew the democratically elected government of Marxist president Salvador Allende, replacing it with 17 years of harsh dictatorial rule under Gen. Augusto Pinochet.

You may have seen the 1982 movie about the coup and its aftermath, entitled Missing, directed by Constantin Costa-Gavras, and starring Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek.

The film depicts events surrounding the capture and execution of two Americans – Charles Horman, 31, and Frank Teruggi, 24 – a crime carried out by Chilean security forces in the wake of the U.S-backed coup.

Hamas: We attempted to hit the nuclear reactor in Dimona

Three rockets were launched at Dimona in southern Israel on Wednesday afternoon. The Iron Dome intercepted one rocket before it could land, while two other rockets landed in open areas.

Dimona is the location of Israel's nuclear reactor. There was no indication that rockets damaged any part of the reactor.
Related:

Hamas claimed responsibility for the rockets, stating that it had been attempting to hit the nuclear reactor.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would like confirmation that HAMAS is claiming credit for these rockets, because from a public relations point of view, this is a very bad thing to do. Had the reactor been hit, EVERYONE (including the Palestinians) would suffer, and world opinion would turn against HAMAS.

Obviously Israel benefits from this rocket attack politically, especially since no harm came to the bomb factory at Dimona.

Tight Indonesian Election Sparks Unrest Fears

JAKARTA, Indonesia—Up to 190 million Indonesians will cast ballots in a tightly contested presidential race Wednesday, with questions mounting about whether one candidate can win convincingly enough to stave off vote challenges and unrest over ambiguous results.

Pollsters say the race is too close to call between candidates with starkly different leadership styles and backgrounds: Jakarta Gov. Joko Widodo and Prabowo Subianto, a former army general under the late authoritarian ruler Suharto.

Outgoing President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, at the end of his maximum 10 years in power, has warned of potential unrest in a close election, Indonesia's first presidential race featuring only two candidates. The vote will pave the way for the first exchange of power between two directly elected presidents in the Southeast Asian nation's history.

On journalistic responsibility: Media and Palestine

Palestinians can be a drag sometimes - even paranoid. They reckon all Westerners are out to get them. And judging from their reaction in recent days, it's clear they never met a media channel they liked. Their criticism of CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera America is a testimony of their paranoia.

It's not like all their homeland is occupied! Or most of their people dispossessed!

Oops. Okay, actually, it is. Yes, they are.

Indeed, Palestine is under siege, and Palestinians are revolting once again.

But so what? Should being victims of five decades of military occupation and seven decades of dispossession put them above questioning or criticism?

It's not like Western media is out to get them.

Or is it? At least those Palestinians in the West seem to think so.

The Israeli culture of vengeance on full display

These horrifying events should serve as a lesson in the obscene futility of vengeance. As a relative of one of the murdered children observed: “There is no difference between blood and blood.”

Sadly, that was not the message implicit in much of last week’s coverage. On social media, a juxtaposition of pictures from the same day’s New York Times showed how easy it is to forget not only that our blood is the same but that grief is too.

A headline about Israelis’ “heartbreak” was illustrated movingly by the families of the three Israeli teenagers huddled together, overwhelmed by their loss. A report on the killing of 16-year-old Abu Khdeir, on the other hand, was accompanied by an image of masked youths throwing stones.

Today it became obvious that the government is failing in its attempt to instill the fear it had hoped to. Schools were open, transportation ran as scheduled, all shops were open for business.

In my own neighbourhood which is usually very peaceful it was ‘business as usual’ throughout the community shopping centre. All of the local eateries were full of customers enjoying a non scorching day. Palestinians were stocking up at the Supermarket in preparation for their ‘Iftar’, the meal eaten at the end of a fast. Everything looked normal and not a word was heard about the sirens of the night before.

Another glorious failure for zion.

As is said above,

DON’T FALL FOR IT!

Video: Detroit residents speak out on water shutoffs

The city of Detroit is aggressively implementing its plan to shut off residential water service at a rate of about 3,000 households per week, in coordination with the city's bankruptcy. Up to 150,000 households may be affected. World Socialist Web Site reporters spoke to residents as they waited in line at water payment centers, trying to get running water to their homes turned back on.

Is The Fed Going To Attempt A Controlled Collapse?

As most Fed watchers know, last week was interesting because Janet Yellen, speaking at IMF came out and said something quite surprising. In a nutshell, she said “It’s not the Fed’s job to pop bubbles”. While many market participants immediately took this to mean, “To the moon, Alice!” and started buying equities hand over fist, there’s another possible explanation for Mrs. Yellen’s proclamation of unwillingness: The Fed could be preparing to do exactly what it said it wouldn’t.

Here’s a quick re-cap of events: In the recently released Annual Report of the BIS: Bank for International Settlements (commonly thought of as the “central bank’s central bank”) the BIS made a rather ominous recommendation to it’s member banks: Pop this bubble now. Their specific language wasn’t quite so direct, but the message was just as clear.

VA denied 80 percent of disability claims filed by Gulf War veterans

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has released data that shows 80 percent of disability claims filed by Gulf War veterans for conditions related to the war have been denied, citing “inadequate and insufficient evidence” to indicate that the cancers, chronic fatigue and migraines they suffer from are service-related.

U.S. warns Afghans not to form 'parallel government'

The United States warned on Tuesday that it would withdraw financial and security support from Afghanistan if anyone tried to take power illegally, as supporters of presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah rallied in Kabul for a parallel government.

Preliminary results announced on Monday gave Ashraf Ghani, a former World Bank official, 56.44 percent in the run-off on June 14, but Abdullah immediately rejected the outcome, saying the vote had been marred by widespread fraud.

Thousands of Abdullah's supporters gathered in the capital Kabul, demanding that he form a parallel government, a move likely to plunge a country already beset by deep ethnic divisions into even greater disorder.

Underscoring the magnitude of the crisis, Abdullah said U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who is currently in Beijing, would visit Kabul on Friday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why SHOULDN'T the Afghanis form a parallel government?!?

It can hardly be any worse than the totally, chaotically dysfunctional one they're stuck with now!!

ISIS Head Killed or Injured

Webmaster's Commentary:

Remember that the US failed to deliver the warplanes Iraq purchased (and is now refusing to return the money paid for same) so in all probability this head of ISIS was killed using Russian-supplied warplanes and munitions, which means if Maliki hangs onto Iraq, Iraq's oil will be on the world market for Rubles and not dollars!

Israel Rules Out Ceasefire, Mobilizes 40,000 for Gaza Invasion

Israeli Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich today ruled out any ceasefire negotiations with Hamas, as the Israeli military continues to escalate airstrikes against the tiny Gaza Strip, and is building up for a ground invasion.

The cabinet has given the military authorization to mobilize up to 40,000 reservists as part of preparations for a ground invasion of Gaza, though so far there is no confirmation that such an invasion yet. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did, however, say that whatever sort of war Israel carries out “may take time.”

Army sources also say that the planning right now is for a “long operation” against Gaza, and with so many hawks in the government pushing for a full conquest of the strip it is hard to imagine Israel stopping short of such a war.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My bet would be that there will be a ground invasion of Gaza, and sooner rather than later.

The IDF will do as much human damage as possible; innocent women and children will be cut down in the streets in a hail of bullets; and the deaths of these innocents will simply be characterized as "collateral damage" by the Israeli government.

Three Israeli teenagers who were abducted by Palestinians in the occupied West Bank last month were shot at least 10 times with a silenced gun in what appeared to be premeditated killings, a U.S. official involved in the investigation said.

1,000-Strong Syrian Rebel Brigade Defects to ISIS

The Syrian Dawud Brigade, a 1,000-strong group of fighters formerly allied to the Islamic Front umbrella, has left its position in the Idlib Province and gone to Raqqa to join ISIS.

The brigade brought with it 100 vehicles, including 10 tanks seized from the Syrian Army during various battles, and is the largest defection so far to ISIS from any rival rebel faction.

The Islamic Front’s “Sham Army” wing downplayed the reports of defection, and insisted they had expelled Dawud, believing them to be a “fifth column” for ISIS.

That seems unlikely with the faction bringing such a large amount of vehicles and weapons with them, but does reflect growing acrimony between ISIS and the Islamic Front, which has claimed to have executed ISIS fighters in recent days.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And while all this plays out, Al-Assad is still in power in Damascus.

Not QUITE the scenario the US government had envisioned, with all of its overt and covert interventions here, I would be willing to bet.

NATO Sets Record By Sending Nine Ships Into Black Sea

The group of NATO ships in the Black Sea has grown to nine vessels, setting a record for recent decades, a Russian military source told RIA Novosti Tuesday.

“American cruiser Vella Gulf arrived in Burgas early Tuesday, and French frigate Surcouf, which returned to the Black Sea on July 4, unmoored from the port of Batumi,” the source said.

The addition of the two ships has brought the number of NATO military vessels in the sea to nine. Apart from the Vella Gulf and the Surcouf, the Black Sea is currently hosting two French reconnaissance ships, and the Italian Dupuy de Lome and Elettra. Additionally, the Breeze-2014 military drills are underway near Bulgarian shores, where the vessels of Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 2 (SNMCMG2) are located. The group is led by the Italian guard ship ITS Aviere. Italian and Turkish minesweepers ITS Rimini and TCG Akcay are also participating in the exercises, along with British minesweeper HMS Chiddingfold and Greek corvette Macitis.

NATO Chief Warns of Duplicity by Putin on Ukraine

The secretary general of the NATO alliance warned on Tuesday that Russia was playing a “double game” in Ukraine, issuing conciliatory public statements while massing its forces along the border and smuggling arms and equipment to separatists inside eastern Ukraine.

“There’s no doubt that Russia is heavily engaged in destabilizing eastern Ukraine, and they continue their activities,” said the secretary general, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, in an interview shortly after meeting with President Obama at the White House.

Speaking in unusually blunt terms, Mr. Rasmussen, whose term ends in October, warned the West not to be fooled by moderate statements by President Vladimir V. Putin, who he said was trying to fend off another round of economic sanctions.

“Don’t make any mistake, it’s pure tactics,” Mr. Rasmussen said. “He keeps open the option to intervene if necessary.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Having absolutely zero credible evidence to support his claims doesn't seem to bother this guy at all.

And he appears to be blissfully in the throes of SMD (selective memory disorder), as he appears to not at all remember that the duly elected government of Ukraine was thrown out via a Western/US/EU putsch, and Poroshenko was installed as President.

When that happened, the Crimean Parliament decided to have a referendum (considered free and fair by international observers, BTW) through which they decided to rejoin Russia.

They had always been a part of Russia, historically, until the 50s, when Nikita Khrushchev, himself an ethnic Ukrainian by birth, annexed Crimea to be part of Ukraine.

Russia did absolutely nothing wrong here.

But Poroshenko has been playing picador against Russia, just as hard and fast as he dares, and it is obvious that he is goading Russia almost to its breaking point.

So far, Putin has been very reserved in his response.

However, there may be a day coming when Putin will feel he has no other response than a military one against Ukraine, which will pit the US/Europe/NATO/Ukraine against Russia.

I would like to politely point out to those precious few adults in the bowels of power in Europe, NATO, and the US that this combination does not have the troop strength, the money, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against Russia. Moreover, instead of spending globs of money on programs that promise much, but don't deliver (let's say,as in the case of the F-35), Russia has spent more wisely on its weapons systems.

I can almost smell the fog of war coming to this region; a bitter, acrid, foul smell of discharged weapons, co-mingled with that of blood, ultimately shed for which pretty little printed piece of paper becomes the world's primary fiat currency.

Over 800,000 flee Pakistan anti-militant offensive

More than 800,000 people have fled a major military offensive against the Taliban in a Pakistani tribal area, officials said Wednesday.

Tens of thousands of families have left the North Waziristan tribal area for the nearby town of Bannu.

Hundreds more have moved further afield to the towns of Lakki Marwat, Karak and Dera Ismail Khan since the attacks began in mid-June.

Officials from the FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) said they were checking registrations for duplicates, meaning the figure may come down.

Some 833,274 people or 66,726 migrating families from North Waziristan were registered in cities of Bannu and Peshawar until Tuesday evening,” Arshad Khan, FDMA director general, told AFP.

Khan said 361,459 of the displaced were children and 248,633 women.

US condemns rocket fire from Gaza into Israel

The United States Tuesday condemned rocket fire by Hamas militants into Israel, and said it was concerned for civilians on both sides, after Israeli air strikes in Gaza killed 15 people.

Escalating Domestic Warfare

Last month, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) released a report titled “War Comes Home: The Excessive Militarization of American Policing,” shedding much needed light on the emergence of a militarist ethos in policing across the nation.

In a review of public records, such as incident reports, requested from more than 260 law enforcement agencies in 25 states and the District of Columbia, the ACLU found that, from the responses received, 818 SWAT operations from 20 local law enforcement agencies located in 11 states fully met their research criteria, which took geographic diversity into account, among other factors. The SWAT incidents that were analyzed fell in the time period between July 2010 and last October.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And a war against American citizens, courtesy of the Federal government, is precisely what we have going on right now. The ever-escalating police violence against Americans is only one symptom of the systemic problems with which we are dealing.

Good jobs continue to get offshored/outsourced with a vengeance; the US government is broke from these illegal and immoral wars; our education system is completely dysfunctional, save for a handful of private schools; between the Patriot Act, the Homeland Security Act, and the NDAA, the Constitution and Bill of Rights have been eviscerated; and homeless Veterans sleep in our streets, many times with zero ability to get the medical care they desperately need when they need it. Many of the people in Detroit have had their water turned off, but the US government has billions to fork out to Israel, even though this is illegal under the Symington amendment, because Israel is a nuclear armed nation which refuses to join the NNPT or have its nuclear sites inspected.

And Congress?!? Completely zero credibility these days, consisting mostly millionaires at this point, who don't give a damn about the citizens they allegedly represent, but spend all their time courting the large corporations which fund their election cycles.

This just...bites, and I frankly do not see any way out of it, short of either a complete economic collapse in the US, or a world war. Not a pleasant alternative either way.

Big Banks Want Power to Declare Cyber War

Wall Street’s biggest trade group has proposed a government-industry cyber war council to stave off terrorist attacks that could trigger financial panic by temporarily wiping out account balances, according to an internal document.

The proposal by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, known as Sifma, calls for a committee of executives and deputy-level representatives from at least eight U.S. agencies including the Treasury Department, the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security, all led by a senior White House official.

The trade association also reveals in the document that Sifma has retained former NSA director Keith Alexander to “facilitate” the joint effort with the government. Alexander, in turn, has brought in Michael Chertoff, the former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, and his firm, Chertoff Group.

In-state college tuition for illegal aliens

The college tuition that a resident pays to a public college or university in their home state is called "in-state tuition". Typically this is much less than the tuition charged to students who come from out-of-state. Allowing an illegal alien student to pay less than an American student is wrong. Yet this is currently being promoted in Congress under the DREAM act.

Under U.S. law, illegal aliens may not hold any job in the United States. Thus, tax dollars expended on higher education illegal aliens to prepare them for professional careers serves only to draw more illegal aliens to those states offering in-state tuition.

Stem cell patient ACCIDENTALLY grows a NOSE on her back eight years after surgeons injected tissue there to try to cure her paralysis

A woman has developed a nose-like growth eight years after a stem cell treatment to cure her paralysis failed.

At the Hospital de Egas Moniz in Lisbon, Portugal, the unnamed woman, a U.S. citizen, had tissue from her nose implanted in her spine.

Doctors hoped the cells would develop into neural cells and help repair the nerve damage to the woman's spine.

But the treatment failed.

However, last year, eight years after the stem cell operation, the woman, then 28, complained of increasing pain in the area.

Doctors discovered a three-centimetre-long growth, which was found to be mainly nasal tissue, as well as bits of bone and nerve branches that had not connected with the spinal nerves.

Organ Harvesting in Ukraine Goes Unreported

Unlike the terrorist offenses in Libya, Syria, and now Iraq, backed by the United States, the UK, the EU, members of NATO as well as regional collaborators such as Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Qatar, where any attempts to stop extremists from seizing entire nations is met by the West’s howling indignation and accusations of “human rights abuses,” the unmitigated brutality executed by literal Nazis in Ukraine against breakaway provinces in the east are accompanied by a hypocritical silence from the West.

Refugees streaming away from encircled and bombarded populated centers tell tales of mass murder, indiscriminate targeting of civilians, and even grisly accounts of forced organ harvesting taking place from the bodies of those killed by Kiev’s combined arms offensive, or from those kidnapped by criminal gangs operating in the vacuum of impunity afforded by the West’s silence...

'Israel under renewed Hamas attack', says the BBC. More balance is needed The macabre truth is that Israeli life is deemed by the western media to be worth more than a Palestinian life – this is the hierarchy of death at work

The macabre truth is that Israeli life is deemed by the western media to be worth more than a Palestinian life: here is the "hierarchy of death" at work. According to the Israeli human rights organisation B'Tselem, 565 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli security forces since January 2009, while 28 Israeli civilians and 10 Israeli security personnel have been killed. The asymmetry of this so-called conflict is reflected in the death toll, but it is not reflected in the coverage.

Ukraine gas debt exceeds $5bn, no June payments made - Gazprom

Ukraine’s gas bill has risen another $838 million, after Kiev failed to make a payment for 1.7 billion cubic meters of Russian gas supplied in the first half of June.

“The deadline for paying June bills expired yesterday; we again didn’t receive the money from Naftogaz Ukraine. As a result Ukraine’s debt to Gazprom for the 1.7 billion cubic meters supplied from June 1 through June 16 rose to $5.296 billion,” Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller said on Tuesday.

Miller added that Ukraine needs to pay for 11.535 billion cubic meters of Russian gas, which is a “gigantic” volume, comparable to the total supplied to Poland.

Jeffrey Goldberg Is an Idiot (No, ISIS Hasn’t Captured Saddam’s Hidden WMD)

It was unclear from Goldberg’s tweet alone whether this was simply a stupid joke — or whether Goldberg genuinely believed this shows we’ve discovered Saddam’s hidden stockpile of chemical weapons, thus proving George W. Bush (and Jeffrey Goldberg) right at long last.

However, Goldberg then retweeted three other people (this, this and this) who seem to believe it was the latter; i.e., that we’ve now learned Iraq did have WMD. So apparently Goldberg believes this as well.

Here’s what’s actually going on:

Top Obama Middle East Official Blasts Israel Over Its Treatment Of Palestinians In A Tel Aviv Speech

Israel’s ongoing occupation of the West Bank is wrong and leads to regional instability and dehumanization of Palestinians, a top American government official said Tuesday in Tel Aviv, hinting that the current Israeli government is not committed to peace.

In an unusually harsh major foreign policy address, Philip Gordon, a special assistant to US President Barack Obama and the White House coordinator for the Middle East, appealed to Israeli and Palestinian leaders to make the compromises needed to reach a permanent peace agreement. Jerusalem “should not take for granted the opportunity to negotiate” such a treaty with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, who has proven to be a reliable partner, Gordon said.

Israeli settler 'shoots at Palestinians' in East Jerusalem

An Israeli settler opened fire at a group of Palestinians in East Jerusalem late Monday, witnesses said.

Witnesses told Ma'an that a settler from Nof Zion settlement near the Jabal al-Mukabbir neighborhood shot at a group of Palestinian youths while they were standing in front of a grocery store.

While shooting, the settler shouted at the Palestinians to "leave," locals said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel has a very strict gun control policy. The Israelis are allowed to carry guns, but the Palestinians are not. This keeps the guy shooting at the Palestinians safe!

Netanyahu instructs Israeli military to intensify assault on Gaza Israeli PM authorises escalation of offensive as Palestinian death toll rises and rocket attacks from Gaza target Tel Aviv

Binyamin Netanyahu has instructed the Israeli military to "intensify even further" its assault on the Gaza Strip.

While stopping short of announcing a ground invasion, the Israeli prime minister told assembled security chiefs in Beersheba on Wednesday: "The IDF [Israel Defence Forces] is prepared for any option. Hamas will pay a heavy price for firing at Israeli citizens."

Israeli jets and naval gunfire pounded targets in the Gaza Strip overnight as the government of Binyamin Netanyahu launched a large-scale military operation against the Islamist militant group Hamas in the coastal enclave.

The air assault continued throughout Wednesday morning bringing the Palestinian death toll to 32 in two days, including several senior Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants. More than 150 people have been injured. There have been about 440 air strikes since the beginning of the week.

Unsealed records allege brutality, corruption in Denver Jail & witness intimidation by police

DENVER - Over the objections of Denver officials, a federal judge on Thursday unsealed police and sheriff internal affairs' records in a lawsuit alleging brutality and corruption in the Denver jail and witness intimidation by police.

The documents describe a chaotic Denver jail pod, where a deputy is accused of getting drunk and using porn, directing beatings of inmates, and selling pot and porn to inmates.

The revelations spring from a federal lawsuit by inmate Jamal Hunter, who accuses Deputy Gaynel Rumer of encouraging a brutal 2011 attack where inmates in an eight-man cell beat Hunter unconscious and burned his thighs and genitals with cups of scalding water.

The lawsuit alleges Rumer ignored Hunter's screams and even turned off the lights in the cell to give the attackers cover. Along with the burns, Hunter suffered fractures to his face.

NSA monitored calls of 35 world leaders after US official handed over contacts

The National Security Agency monitored the phone conversations of 35 world leaders after being given the numbers by an official in another US government department, according to a classified document provided by whistleblower Edward Snowden.

The confidential memo reveals that the NSA encourages senior officials in its "customer" departments, such as the White House, State and the Pentagon, to share their "Rolodexes" so the agency can add the phone numbers of leading foreign politicians to their surveillance systems.

The document notes that one unnamed US official handed over 200 numbers, including those of the 35 world leaders, none of whom is named. These were immediately "tasked" for monitoring by the NSA.

The revelation is set to add to mounting diplomatic tensions between the US and its allies, after the German chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday accused the US of tapping her mobile phone.

"Holocaust Survivor" warns concerned schoolkids: Iran must be stopped

An alleged "holocaust survivor" named Norbert Bikales who goes around New Jersey speaking to schoolkids has warned them that Iran must not acquire nuclear power. In the past it was "nuclear weapons" that the zionists alleged Iran was making, but they appear to now have eased the requirements of preemptive war to merely "nuclear power" when acquired by potential enemies.

The Central Jersey Register-News reports: BORDENTOWN: Middle school hosts Holocaust survivor:

"When asked if there is anything going on in the world today that looks like a holocaust could happen again, Mr. Bikales said, “We need to take a serious look at the nuclear power that Iran may have. The world powers need to stop Iran from gaining nuclear power and using it."

Many schools across the United States indoctrinate their schoolkids with grossly exagerated and unsubstanciated fables of the holohoax.
