Afghan Minister for Public Health Syed Mohammad Amin Fatimi has revealed that 12 million out of the total 30 million Afghans, including 3 million children, live under poverty line in the war-torn country, a local newspaper reported Saturday.
"Twelve million people, of these 3 million are children under five, live under poverty line in Afghanistan," daily Rah-e-Nejat quoted minister Fatimi as saying.
The minister noted these children have been suffering from malnutrition.
More "progress" in Afghanistan!
Eight years on in this war, and we can't even get food to starving kids?
Take a good, hard look at the little girl in this photo.
From the look of the dress she's wearing, caked in dirt, she's probably been scavenging garbage dumps to barely get enough in her system to stay alive for the next day.
It's very possible that her parents are dead or displaced, and she will never see them again. She may be desperately trying to fend for younger siblings she's trying to take care of.
Now, imagine for one moment, that this was your kid.
This is what US/NATO occupation looks like to 3 million Afghan children.
It is obvious that there were absolutely no considerations about improving the lives of the Afghan people with the invasion and occupation of Afghanistan.
The objectives were to control the drug trade (and its profit)and to control the flow of Eurasian oil through the establishment of pipelines.
The US and NATO have done brilliantly on the first objective (cheap heroin is flooding Europe and Russia), but have been completely impotent on the second.
