Repercussions of Israeli attack on Iran
The U.S. and its Western allies charge Iran is producing atomic weapons. Iran says its program is meant to produce fuel for future nuclear power reactors and medical radioisotopes needed for cancer patients. This being the election year for the US President, a beleaguered Obama is likely to fall victim to the temptation of adventurism against Iran in a desperate bid to make himself palatable to domestic voters. There is every likelihood that this adventurism will fail. The other option is to let Israel do the dirty work and look the other way as it becomes the assailant against alleged Iranian nuclear sites. What the west and its client Israel are forgetting that Iran is neither Afghanistan nor Iraq and will not allow a walkover to either Israel or the US. It will give not only give them a bloody nose but also cripple their economy by strangling the oil route. It is only hoped and prayed that good sense prevails and such adventurism is avoided.
I would strongly caution the Obama administration that such a military strike against Iran could go very, very badly, because the US government doesn't have the military troop strength, the manufacturing, or the money to insure a completely successful outcome of such a strike.
I would also mention that officials of both the Russian and Chinese leadership have gone on the record, stating that should Iran be attacked, that both nuclear-armed countries would support it in such a conflict.
What we have here is the potential for a global, thermonuclear war against a country which, to date, has not begun any military confrontation in the last 200 years, and certainly not since becoming an Islami Republic in 1979.
Also, none of the IAEA reports on Iran's nuclear energy program have demonstrated, to date, that zero nuclear material has gone missing.
Here is a country attempting to do everything by the book, as an NNPT signatory, and is still getting slammed in the court of Western public opinion. Israel, on the other hand, refuses to join the NNPT, has nuclear weapons, and refuses to allow its nuclear sites to be inspected.
Israel is also cheerleading for an attack against Iran, stating that it is Israel's "existential threat du jure", to the point of feigning ambivalence, in terms of perhaps not letting the US know before any intended Israeli strike against Iran.
Should that unannounced Israeli strike happen, all financial and military US aid to Israel (already illegal under the Symington Amendment), should halt immediately, and no US military assistance should be given for such a military misadventure.
Let's just sit this one out, and watch Israel defend itself against Russia, China, and Iran: this really might be worth watching!
Of course, such a scenario is as likely as that of pigs flying.
the US will, again, get caught up and pulled in, with American blood and money being placed as a sacrifice upon the altar of potential Israeli hegemony over the Middle East.
And if you want to know what THAT is going to look like, just ask a Palestinian!!
