US to Spike Private Mercenaries in Iraq Amid Expanding War, Says Senior Official

The U.S. government is preparing to hike the number of private mercenary forces in Iraq, as part of the expanding war in that country and neighboring Syria, an anonymous senior U.S. official told Reuters. There are currently at least 1,800 private contractors in Iraq, and the official said it is not immediately clear how many additional mercenaries will be sent, according to Reuters. Nonetheless, journalists Warren Strobel and Phil Stewart note, the plan to boost numbers "underscores Obama's growing commitment in Iraq. When U.S. troops and diplomats venture into war zones, contractors tend to follow, doing jobs once handled by the military itself."

Rebels in Syria’s Aleppo Announce ‘Total Merger’

Rebel factions in Syria are announcing new alliances and umbrella factions every few weeks, usually restricted to small factions or small amounts of territory. Today’s seems to be one of the biggest.

This new announcement, reported by rebel mouthpiece the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, is in the key northern Aleppo Province, where Syrian military forces are trying to take the city of Aleppo, once the nation’s industrial and financial capital.

The new alliance includes the Islamic Front and several smaller factions, who have agreed to a “total merger under one flag and united leadership.” The united group will be called the Shamiyya Front

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder: do some of these rebels include the White House's alleged "moderate, vetted rebels"?!?

Lebanese Army kills 3 gunmen on Syria border

The Lebanese Army shot dead three militants in the northeastern border region near Arsal overnight, state-run National News Agency said Friday.

It said among the fatalities was Adham Shedad, a Syrian militant from Nusra Front.

A source in the town told The Daily Star that a group of gunmen tried to sneak into Lebanon from Syria near an Army checkpoint in Wadi Hmeid on the outskirts of Arsal, prompting troops to open fire.

Fabrication And Misinformation Of Wall Street Journal

Just few days ago, Wall Street Journal reproduced a new scenario for the assassination of Al-
Assad's brother-in law, Assef Shawkat.

Assef Shawkat was, indeed, one of the strongest regime's men in Syria. And he was among the high-ranked officials who witnessed both Bashar's and his father's eras. Moreover, he was Bashar al-Assad's brother-in-law.

WSJ reported an ill-cited article, which can be considered as one of Hollywood's scenarios. In summary, The report included the following ideas:

(1) Hawks of Syrian regime killed Bashar al-Assad's brother-in law, Assef Shawkat.
(2) The mentioned event was actually the turning point in the Syrian crisis, by which 'the regime's killing machine was accelerated'.
(3) The defected official and al-Assad's old friend, Manaf Tlas was: (a) a witness (b) one of the 'pigeons' by urging al-Assad for conversation with the protesters.
(4) All of the report's sources of information are enemies of Al-Assad:

Imperialism and the Politics of Torture

Torture will truly disappear and the politicians will be put on trial for these crimes, only when the empire is transformed back to a republic: where impunity ends justice begins.

Season of Goodwill… West Delivers Sanctions, Suffering and Conflict

A Christmas Carol? The EU is not only Scrooge unrepentant. It is also the biggest Stooge for American war-making.

It’s the Season of Goodwill – and Western governments are showering us with a medley of their «gifts». Sanctions, austerity, lethal military aid and red-hot coals of conflict.

Meanwhile, the contrast of Russian humanitarian aid to Ukraine could not be greater or more telling. This week another convoy of trucks from Russia – at least the tenth so far in recent months – is due to arrive in eastern Ukraine, bearing food, clothing, heating and toys for the war-torn children of Luhansk and Donetsk.

Only in the cynical, mean-spirited West would such a juxtaposition of very different Russian conduct be misconstrued.

Ending the Cold War on Cuba? From the Freezer to the Chiller

If Washington ended its economic aggression against Cuba and others then it might just be a signal of real change. Otherwise it’s just more of the same imperialist policy that is the bedrock of American power.

As US President Barack Obama announced his surprise «historic» bid to normalize relations with Cuba this week, the New York Times swooned with glowing news. ‘US to Restore Full Relations With Cuba, Erasing a Last Trace of Cold War Hostility’ was how its top headline put it. Welcoming the development, the American «newspaper of record» said Obama vowed to «cut loose the shackles of the past» and to «sweep aside one of the last vestiges of the Cold War».

But, purple prose aside, the hard detail is that the ongoing illegal American embargo on Cuba will stay in place. Moreover, the move comes as Washington slaps on more sanctions against Russia and unleashes new sanctions on Venezuela.

Obama’s Belated Realism on Cuba

Just as ostracism and rejection of the normal give-and-take of diplomacy has been utterly unproductive in the case of Cuba, so too has been the case with Iran, with positive results having been obtained only when real diplomacy began under the current U.S. administration.

What most distinguishes the case of Cuba is the sheer length of time during which the futile posture of attempted isolation and embargo has been sustained. We long, long ago passed the point where we can say with finality and high confidence that the policy does not work.

American ‘used cars’ used by ISIS

A Texas plumber says he has no idea how his old company truck ended up in a jihadi photo from the front lines of the war in Syria produced by the militant group ISIS

The New York Daily News reported that Mark Oberholtzer of Texas City traded the company car in at a dealership in 2013 and hadn’t thought of it since.

On Monday, however, the Ansar al-Deen Front, a Syrian militant group, posted a photo featuring the black Ford F-250 pickup with an anti-aircraft gun mounted on the truck bed and the logo of Oberholtzer’s Mark-1 Plumbing Company and contact information emblazoned on the doors.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, whoever bought the truck here in the US and shipped it to ISIS is materially aiding the enemy in time of war. I think that is called treason.

The Israel Lobby Cowbird

How Israel lobbying organizations flit about Washington, hatching operatives into the U.S. federal government to pursue a solitary goal—advancing the interests of a foreign state.

How is the Israel lobby like a swarm of cowbirds?

Cowbirds use the devious strategy of brood parasitism, arriving at the nest of more parentally-oriented birds to lay their own eggs. Cowbirds then enjoy unburdened freedom to forage and thrive while their own young are raised, fed and protected by unsuspecting parents. If an avian host dares remove the cowbird’s offspring, the host’s own eggs—if not the entire nest—will likely be destroyed by the watchful cowbird.

Iran nuclear deal within grasp

The US-Iranian negotiations for a nuclear deal are slated to resume on Monday amidst growing optimism that this could be the end of the year-long endgame under way, and an accord is in sight, finally. The US secretary of state John Kerry recently said that the effort will be to reach an accord even before the extended deadline of end-June.

The target is to reach a political agreement by March 1, 2015and a comprehensive agreement by July 1. To be sure, if there was any disappointment that the deal couldn’t be struck yet after intense talks began an year ago, that has dispelled. The mood in Tehran bazaar is “bullish”, according to New York Times, sensing that a deal with the US is in the works.

The main reason for this growing optimism is that the two sides have a good idea by now of each other’s ‘red lines’ and also the grey area where give-and-take is possible. In sum, there is no more a need for brinkmanship or grandstanding.

ISIS’ Bloody Footprints Lead From NATO Territory

It was reported recently that Germany’s broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW) investigated what turned out to be hundreds of trucks a day carrying billions of dollars in supplies, flowing into Syria and directly into the hands of the so-called “Islamic State” (ISIS).

Turkey, a NATO member since 1952, has played a pivotal role in the destabilization and destruction of neighboring Syria. Since 2011, Turkey has allowed its territory to be used as a transit and staging point for sectarian terrorists flowing from around the world and into Syria in what could be described as a defacto NATO invasion by proxy.

A (mild) thaw in US-Russia ties

Reports on the meeting between the US secretary of state John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the American Embassy Residence in Rome suggest that an urgent need has arisen for the Obama administration to seek the Kremlin’s cooperation in the Middle East crisis.

The Indian pundits must be surprised how such bonhomie could exist between Washington and Moscow at the UN SC on the very same day (Friday) in New York when the US state department mildly censored Delhi for doing ‘business’ with Russia during President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India.

Plainly put, that’s how the international system works, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi not only understood it perfectly well but has also been prescient about the imperatives of a Russian-American working relationship sooner rather than later, and of course the transitory nature of the current chill in Russia’s relations with the West.

How did a plumber's pick-up truck from Texas end up carrying an anti-aircraft gun for Islamic fighters on the front lines of Syria?

Mark Oberholtzer isn't an Islamic fighter in Syria. He's never been to Syria. And the plumber from Texas City, Texas, says he certainly would never willingly aid fundamentalist rebels. So it's hard for him to understand how his Ford F-250 pickup truck - including his logo for Mark-1 Plumbing and his phone number - wound up in a propaganda picture sent out by the extremist Ansar al-Deen Front from the front lines of the war in Syria.

“A Taboo on Telling the Truth About Palestine”

We are complicit in the creation of the modern Middle East. By honoring the taboo described by Edward Said, we made and now sustain Israel, not as a democracy which it claims to be, but as a war machine designed to extend the American empire over the bodies of dead children in Gaza and the WestBank.

There is no taboo against speaking of ISIS. The taboo related to ISIS is its connection to another American creation, the modern state of Israel.

Hedges opens a door into the darkness of our refusal to acknowledge our major role in Israel’s creation myth. He sees ISIS as an emulation of the modern state of Israel.

Is the U.S. Government incapable of breaking free from the domination of its Zionist masters?

The US Congress passed the United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act of 2014 at the beginning of December.

As is made clear in the article by Clovis Maksoud, former Arab League ambassador to the United States, transmitted here, at a time when European states are, hesitantly, moving toward holding Israel accountable for its crimes and taking meaningful action to end the occupation, the United States is, defiantly, moving in the opposite direction, confirming its national subservience to Israel and its continuing support (in its acts if not its rhetoric) for perpetual occupation.

Senate torture report reveals American sadism

The global ‘war on terror,’ conceived by the Israelis and launched by their American lackeys shortly after the false-flag attacks of 9/11, is nothing short of a cruel hoax on the world. The sadists and megalomaniacs who have executed this comical ruse may well evade justice in this lifetime, but history will record their foul deeds so that future generations will rightly view them as the monstrous villains that they have proven to be.

A particularly cringe-worthy revelation is that the CIA practiced “rectal feeding” where prisoners on hunger strikes were force-fed through their rectum in order to keep them alive. The RT commentary cited above writes that, “At least five CIA detainees were subjected to ‘rectal rehydration,’ or rectal feeding, the Senate report reads, in order to keep prisoners alive who allegedly otherwise refused to eat.”

Miko Peled: This is NOT Recognition

As the recognition by European countries of a so called “State of Palestine” continues, it is becoming obvious that this is nothing but an old colonial trick dusted and reused. The fact that liberal Zionist hypocrites the likes of the Israeli writers Amoz Oz and David Grossman are all over it says it all.

In Palestine, speaking out against injustice is no longer enough. In fact it was never enough. As people of conscience we must act for the removal of the injustice and its replacement with a free, democratic system. But many forget that in order to achieve this there must be a struggle. A real struggle, and not some intellectualized version of a struggle as is often suggested by some Israeli liberals, is the only way to defeat racist, colonialist regimes.

Another banker? Citigroup managing director, dies in suspected suicide

Citigroup managing director Shawn D. Miller was found dead in the bathtub of his New York City apartment...Police believe Miller killed himself, Detective Martin Speechley, an NYPD spokesman, told Bloomberg News Wednesday. However, the official cause of death will remain a mystery until the autopsy report is concluded.

Investigators believe Miller killed himself after going on a drug, methamphetamine and alcohol bender, according to the Daily News, which said that cops found controlled substances in the apartment.

The banker was discovered by the building’s doorman on Tuesday afternoon, after his boyfriend was unable to get a hold of him. His body was found with a laceration to his neck, the NYPD said. He was pronounced dead by paramedics that arrived to the apartment.

‘Suicide Drones’ and the Spoils of War: Israeli arms manufacturers look to cash in on the war in Gaza

Three weeks after Israel’s latest assault on the Gaza Strip concluded, Israeli military and political leaders attended a conference next to Ben Gurion Airport to sell the successes of what Israel dubbed Operation Protective Edge, which killed more than 2,200 Palestinians including 521 children. The annual conference, named “Israel Unmanned Systems 2014,” took place in business-as-usual atmosphere — even with a complimentary beer keg. But the fare was anything but humdrum. Among the offerings were suicide drones, “loitering munitions” that need to explode; a 16-year-old showing off high-tech robots designed by fellow high schoolers and future drone makers; and “premature” weapons, armaments that have not been fully tested before they are used on a live Palestinian population. Such is Israel the military power.

Syrian No-Fly-Zone a Bid to Save Al Qaeda

Recent strikes on Syria by Israel have been alleged to be part of a regional plan by the US, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Israel to establish a no-fly-zone (NFZ) over Syria, just as NATO did in Libya in 2011 effectively handing the entire nation over to Al Qaeda and now “Islamic State” terrorists. DEBKA File has suggested in its article, “Israel air strikes wiped out Russian hardware for thwarting US no-fly zone plan over Syria,” that:

"High-ranking American military sources revealed Monday, Dec. 8, that Israel’s air strikes near Damascus the day before wiped out newly-arrived Russian hardware including missiles that were dispatched post haste to help Syria and Hizballah frustrate a US plan for a no-fly zone over northern Syria."

You know something doesn’t wash when the contrary views are as overwhelmingly held as on this matter. The resolution passed on a vote of 161-5.

The stated rationale for the United States casting last Tuesday one of the very lonely votes it sometimes casts at the United Nations General Assembly, on matters on which almost the entire world sees things differently, warrants some reflection.

Don’t Risk War With Russia

Washington rushes to court open conflict with Moscow against every rational interest. It is not wise to provoke a powerful enemy unless a vital national interest is at stake, which is not the case with Ukraine and Crimea.

Today, more than 20 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, there are many indications that Washington is slipping into a new and completely unnecessary confrontation with Moscow, only this time it is not being run largely out of sight by the CIA. Much of the new conflict is being conducted openly, with sanctions and resolutions by Congress, regular appearances in unstable regions overseas by senior state department officials and politicians, and trainings in new media political organizing funded by quasi non-governmental organizations like the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

Old Tricks, Old Dogs: Israeli Attacks on Syria

Tony Cartalucci
Activist Post

Israel has once again conducted air strikes against the Syrian government and its people, in yet another act of unprovoked aggression and international criminality.

Strikes hit government facilities in the capital as well as Damascus International Airport. One must wonder why Israel attacks what it has called “regional threats” in Damascus when it allows terrorist groups including Al Qaeda’s Al Nusra Front to park tanks along its borders...

AIDING ISIS: Israel Bombs Syria For Fifth Time in 18 Months, Gives Arms, Medical Aid to Militants

As is customary, Israeli officials refused to ‘confirm or deny’ the bombing raid, in what the Jerusalem Post describes as, “Maintaining a policy of ambiguity that is meant to allow the other side to save face and to stave off retaliation”.
Israel is claiming this, its fifth unprovoked airstrike against Syria in 18 months (see full list of attacks below), was carried out as a ‘defensive measure’, claiming that Syria was “hiding sophisticated weaponry destined for Hezbollah in Lebanon”. One Lebanese TV correspondent claimed that Israel struck 10 crucial intelligence-linked locations in Syria that “belonged to Iran”. The same news outlet also reported other explosions heard near the Israeli-Lebanese border, allegedly from IDF airforce maneuvers.

Israeli jets bomb Syria, says Damascus

Syria accused Israeli jets of bombing two installations inside the country on Sunday, one near the capital, Damascus, and the second in a town near the Lebanese border.

The report by Syrian state television described the attack as “an aggression”. It said the air raids occurred near Damascus’s international airport and in the town of Dimas.

The state news agency Sana said: “The Israeli enemy attacked Syria by targeting two safe areas in Damascus province, namely the Dimas area and the area of Damascus international airport.” It said no casualties were reported.

There was no immediate comment from Israeli officials.

Speculation in the immediate aftermath suggested that the target of the strikes might have been advanced Russian-made S300 surface-to-air missiles.

America on “Hot War Footing” as House Paves Way for War with Russia

Mainstream Media Blacks Out as U.S. House of Representatives Passes Dark War on Russia Resolution 758.

America is on a war footing. While, a World War Three Scenario has been on the drawing board of the Pentagon for more than ten years, military action against Russia is now contemplated at an “operational level”. Similarly, both the Senate and the House have introduced enabling legislation which provides legitimacy to conduct a war against Russia.

The adoption of a major piece of legislation by the US House of Representatives on December 4th (H. Res. 758) would provide (pending a vote in the Senate) a de facto green light to the US president and commander in chief to initiate –without congressional approval– a process of military confrontation with Russia.

Global security is at stake. This historic vote –which potentially could affect the lives of hundreds of millions of people Worldwide– has received virtually no media coverage. A total media blackout prevails.

Pentagon in Denial About Civilian Casualties of U.S. Airstrikes in Iraq and Syria

The Pentagon accepts that with many hundreds of allied bombings aimed at Islamic State targets since August, there is a “continued risk inherent in these strikes” for civilians on the ground. But that doesn’t mean the United States will offer compensation if it kills them.

The United States is not planning to grant compensation for civilians killed in airstrikes in Iraq and Syria, Foreign Policy has learned, despite claims by credible groups that at least 100 noncombatants may already have died in the 16 weeks of U.S.-led bombings.

The decision, confirmed by a senior spokesman for U.S. Central Command (Centcom), the military command organization in charge of the air war, marks a significant departure from recent conflicts, in which payments have regularly been made to those affected by U.S. military actions.

QUESTIONS FOR JEREMY SCAHILL, AUTHOR OF “DIRTY WARS, The World is a Battlefield”

For the people of Syria and the wider region, America’s dirty war against their countries is much dirtier than you present it, and for the wars to be successfully pursued many in the administration, media, NGOs, academia, diplomatic corps must be complicit to some extent or other in order for there to be a very muted response to the wars.

Your book was published in 2013. Could you please explain why you have given no attention at all to the role of Robert Ford in Syria’s crisis? (He is not listed in the index at all.) There are two brief references to John Negroponte in your book, on pages 186 and 207. They are both relatively benign and forgettable, despite Negroponte’s being the US director of national intelligence and his earlier suspect diplomatic service in Honduras. One would expect him to figure largely in the US dirty war. Why is Negroponte almost invisible in your book?

Twenty-six Things About the Islamic State (ISIL) that Obama Does Not Want You to Know About

The US led war against the Islamic State is a big lie.

Going after ” Islamic terrorists”, carrying out a worldwide pre-emptive war to “Protect the American Homeland” are used to justify a military agenda.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is a creation of US intelligence. Washington’s “Counter-terrorism Agenda” in Iraq and Syria consists in Supporting the Terrorists.

The incursion of the Islamic State (IS) brigades into Iraq starting in June 2014 was part of a carefully planned military-intelligence operation supported covertly by the US, NATO and Israel.

Fake Video Footage: The West’s Propaganda War on Syria Exposed Once Again

While the Daily Mail claims “experts” claimed “they have no reason to doubt its authenticity,” those who have witnessed the West’s intentional, systematic deceit throughout the duration of the Syrian conflict could cite many reasons. With it now confirmed that the above mentioned video is a hoax, yet another reason still can be cited.

Indeed, the video was a complete hoax – a literal production filmed in Malta, not Syria, and consisting of actors, actresses, and special effects. The UK Mirror in its article, “Footage of Syrian ‘hero boy’ dodging sniper’s bullets to save girl revealed as FAKE,” would finally admit:

Lars Klevberg, 34, from Oslo, devised the hoax after watching news coverage of the troubles in Syria.

He told BBC Trending: “If I could make a film and pretend it was real, people would share it and react with hope.

“We shot it in Malta in May this year on a set that was used for other famous movies like Troy and Gladiator.

Obama's Mercenary Attacks On Syria Are Breaking The Law

According to the Washington Post the U.S. administration is discussing to increase the numbers of CIA trained mercenaries in Syria:

The Obama administration has been weighing plans to escalate the CIA’s role in arming and training fighters in Syria, a move aimed at accelerating covert U.S. support to moderate rebel factions while the Pentagon is preparing to establish its own training bases, U.S. officials said.

The administration knows very well that the legal ground it is standing on is very, very weak. The people it trains are criminals and do not observe basic laws of war or human rights. The administration's solution to breaking the law is trying to change it:

Webmaster's Commentary:

Breaking - and or changing - the laws of this country in order to achieve their objectives, is nothing new to this Administration.

And those objectives here have to do with wars creating private personal profit of the large corporations, coupled with the continuation of the hegemony of the US dollar.

We know that regime change in Syria, according to this Administration, is the prelude to regime change in Iran: but at what cost to our troops, militarily, monetarily, or morally?!?

From an historical standpoint, sending in "advisers" has never augured well for this country. So far, any training of rebels against Al-Assad's military has been an exercise in complete futility.

And because it is understood in military circles that one cannot win what is essentially a ground war from the air, when will we see the first US boots on the ground in Syria, if, in fact they are not already covertly there?!?

With this article stating "Around 2,000 Syrian fighters are slated to be given military training, which is set to begin at the end of December.", I would not be surprised to see US boots on the ground in Syria the very first part of next year, late winter, early spring.

BUT there is a teensy-weensy fly in the ointment here. As reported September 13th 2013 in examiner.com:

As noted on the official website of the University of Washington's Jackson School of International Studies (Jenkins, 17), the Russian Federation maintains mutual defense treaties with both Syria and Iran. Russia has stated on more than one occasion that “Iran is our close neighbor, just south of the Caucasus. Should anything happen to Iran, should Iran get drawn into any political or military hardships, this will be a direct threat to our national security.” An Attack On One Is An Attack On All... With the civil war ravaged Syrian nation bordering America's Turkish NATO partner to its south, if any of Assad's forces strike sovereign Turkish territory, the Ankara government could not only legitimately strike back, but every NATO member state would be treaty bound to militarily assist in any armed response. Subsequently, both the Russians and the Iranians would have no choice but to come to the defense of their mutual ally in Damascus.

So, any US military incursion into EITHER Syria or Iran will require Russia coming to either country's aid militarily.

And I have to wonder: is a full frontal US military attack against Syria their "back door" to a war against Russia?!?

And to our President, Congress, State Department and Pentagon: I would like to politely suggest that I am, surely, not the only American to have figured this out.

Airstrikes Fail to Slow ISIS' Iraq Killing Spree, Database Suggests

U.S.-led airstrikes have failed to slow the number of ISIS attacks and its defiant militants are now racking up a higher body count than ever before, according to data provided exclusively to NBC News.

Analysis of IHS Jane's Terrorism and Insurgency Center's (JTIC) database shows the current face — and pace — of the group's battle for Syria and Iraq.

Data showed that ISIS massively stepped up attacks after conquering the Iraqi city of Mosul on June 10 — and has stepped them up further since airstrikes were launched in August. Deaths caused by ISIS also climbed since the key city was overrun and have continued to rise since the U.S.-led coalition started bombing the militants.

“The airstrikes certainly aren’t impairing their ability to intensify their attacks or carry out their campaign,” said Matthew Henman, head of the JTIC. “They’re not cowed by them, they’re not afraid.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

IT appears to me that these jihadists are taylor-made as the "excuse" for invasion 3.0 of Iraq, in an attempt to "groom" the American people toward yet another war here, to control both the oil,, and the monetary denomination in which that oil is sold (read: the US dollar).

Anyone with any insight into military tactics understands one thing: any military force cannot win what is essentially a ground war from the air.

Considering how "well" the last two invasions of Iraq have gone, it would be the most pig-headedly, ham-fistedly stupid thing for the US to reinvade now.

Unfortunately, however, just because something is a spectacularly stupid thing to be doing is absolutley no guarantee that the US government and military will not do it.

And... by the way, does it appear that both the Pentagon and State Department are experiencing SMD (selective memory disorder) regarding one guy here, who has the loyalty (including a commitment to fight) of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis?!?

I am referring, of course to Muqtada al Sadr, the Shiite Iranian cleric, who could mobiize an army in Iraq in a heartbeat. IF this guy still considers our country, and our military "the enemy" of the Iraqi people, (and there is no evidence to suggest that he has changed his mind on this issue), our soldiers are going to be in a world of hurt here, and hated by all sides.

I would also like to politely point out that until Saddam Hussein was lynched by the Americans, Shiites and Sunnis lived comfortably side by side, with no real beefs against each other.

UN Says 13.6 Million Displaced By Wars In Iraq And Syria

About 13.6 million people, equivalent to the population of London, have been displaced by conflicts in Syria and Iraq, many without food or shelter as winter starts, the U.N. refugee agency said UNHCR on Tuesday.

Amin Awad, UNHCR's director for the Middle East and North Africa, said the world was becoming numb to the refugees' needs.

"Now when we talk about a million people displaced over two months, or 500,000 overnight, the world is just not responding," he told reporters in Geneva.

The 13.6 million include 7.2 million displaced within Syria - an increase from a long-held U.N. estimate of 6.5 million, as well as 3.3 million Syrian refugees abroad, 1.9 million displaced in Iraq and 190,000 who have left to seek safety.

Obama: Troop Deployments to Iraq Signal ‘New Phase’ in War

Speaking today on his plan to double the number of US ground troops in Iraq, President Barack Obama said the deployment signals a “new phase” in the ongoing war against ISIS.

“Phase one was getting an Iraqi government that was inclusive and credible – and we now have done that,” Obama insisted, saying it was now time to go on the offensive against ISIS.

Despite this, and despite Pentagon officials saying the new ground troops would be deployed to the front lines in Iraq’s Anbar Province, Obama maintained that the troops still won’t be going into combat.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Obama knows full well that you cannot win what is essentially a ground war from the air; and yet he goes on lying to the American public, and the world, assuring all of us that this will not be happening.

I have fully come to expect that the US government will lie to me on every conceivable issue, to support those large corporations which fund election cycles.

There is a marvelous line from the 2nd Sherlock Holmes film,(and I am paraphrasing like mad here), where the Moriarty character says to the Holmes character that when war happens, he wants to have the corner on both bullets and bandages.

American Weapons Provided to Syrian Rebels Fall into al-Qaeda’s Hands

The al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra (the Succor Front) not only took the territory of the moderate Muslim Syria Revolutionaries Front this weekend, it also polished off the Movement of the Resolute .

The Movement of the Resolute (Harakat al-Hazm) represented itself as secular, but had its roots in a fundamentalist group backed by the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, the “Time of Muhammad” Front.

Last spring the Movement of the Resolute revealed that it had American TOW anti-tank batteries and access to other weapons. The TOWs were apparently supplied to them via Qatar or Turkey with American acquiescence.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based anti-regime group, said Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi made the announcement after a series of meetings between ISIS leaders and tribal elders.

ISIS: the Useful Enemy

The dark force of ISIS is apparently an invincible and unstoppable war juggernaut that is mercilessly killing and conquering in pursuit of establishing an Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. In reality, however, it is not as out of control as it appears. It is, indeed, carefully controlled and managed by its creators and supporters, that is, by the United States and its allies in the region—those who now pretend to have established a coalition to fight it! The U.S., Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and other allies in the region do not really need to fight ISIS to (allegedly) destroy it; all they need to do to extinguish its hellish flames is stop supplying fuel for its fire, that is, stop supplying it with funds, mercenaries, military training and armaments.

West Re-Arms Nusra - Mainstream Media Continues Coverup

On a number of occasions, I have documented in relative detail how ISIS, ISIL, Al-Qaeda, al-Nusra, and the FSA are not only small divisions of the same fighting force but also how they are entirely controlled by NATO and Western intelligence agencies. Indeed, the documentation of these relationships is so plentiful as to preclude any attempt to collect even a substantial portion of it in one place. Yet, only in the bits of dribble provided by mainstream media outlets is there the pretense that the above-listed terrorist organizations are anything but NATO’s and the CIA’s Arab legion.

Obama To Request Authorization for Iraq and Syria War

In his first public statement after the midterm elections, President Barack Obama said he would ask Congress for a new authorization of force to fight the Islamic State, the jihadist group currently operating in Iraq and Syria. The authorization the White House is seeking will replace the 2001 Authorization for the Use of Military Force against al Qaeda that provided the legal basis for the invasion of Afghanistan and the 2002 authorization that gave legal cover for the invasion of Iraq. The administration had relied on the previous authorizations for the current campaign against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria despite protests from members of both parties in Congress.

Are Progressives Finking Out on Foreign Policy?

For all the endless fund-raising appeals and election hyperbole, few progressive politicians want to talk about our biggest foreign policy challenge, the escalation of American involvement in Syria and Iraq. Both Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders voted against training and arming the “moderates” in Syria. But neither have wanted to make an issue of Obama’s military intervention, and few on the left have called for them to do so.

This is sad, but not surprising, as I warned over a year ago in “Don’t Let Hillary Housebreak the New, New Left.” It’s wonderful that voters want more populist domestic policies, and it’s marvelously misleading that the multi-millionaire Clinton is verbally attacking Wall Street billionaires. I don’t think this is what my old comrades had in mind when they talked of class struggle.

Pentagon Downplays Mounting Losses in Iraq, Syria

Major losses on both the Iraqi and Syrian sides of the ISIS conflict emerged over the weekend, with ISIS routing a pro-Iraqi govt Sunni tribe and massacring hundreds of them, while Jabhat al-Nusra, al-Qaeda’s wing in Syria, forced a key US-allied moderate rebel faction to surrender.

The Pentagon is trying to downplay the problems, despite these both being clearly huge defeats for their strategy in the ever-escalating war, and is mostly falling back on semantic arguments to deflect concerns.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, it appears that the US has become the USI: The United States of Incompetence.

Unfortunately, the same malaise which seems to have infected the rest of the administration has also hit the Pentagon, and that is the complete inability to think anything through to its logical outcome.

And if there is one lesson that the Pentagon should have absorbed from the Vietnam war, it is that you cannot win what is essentially a ground war from the air.

But let me give you an alternative scenario; if the US government had invested just a very paltry percentage of the money it has spent on the wars against Iraq and Afghanistan on stable, clean alternative energy, which will drive a tank, or power a plane, NONE OF THESE WARS WOULD HAVE BEEN NECESSARY IN THE BLOODY FIRST PLACE!!

The US government patents the device, and the world comes scrambling to the US for this energy.

OF course, THAT... would be logical.

And logic and the US government have not had a comfortable, long-term relationship in quite some time.

U.S. Considers Expanding Airstrikes in Syria

The United States is considering expanding its air campaign against Islamist militants in Syria to target forces from the al Qaeda-linked group Jabhat al-Nusra as they close on a critical border crossing with Turkey. The group routed forces from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) from strongholds in Idlib province over the weekend, and is now reportedly moving toward one of the two openings where the FSA receives military and humanitarian assistance from the United States and other allies.

Why is there such an explosion of violence across the Middle East? Here's an alternative view...

Not so with America and the war in Syria. “Right from the beginning of this crisis, I never truly felt that the issue was about President Assad,” she says. “It was about the weakening and destruction of Syria. There has been so much destruction – of hospitals, schools, factories, government institutions, you name it. I think the Americans take their battles against leaders and presidents – but only as a pretext to destroy countries. Saddam was not the real target –it was Iraq. And it’s the same for Libya now – America told everyone it was about Gaddafi. The real issue is about weakening the Arab armies, whoever they are. When the Americans invaded Iraq, what was the first thing they did? They dissolved the Iraqi army.”

US Destroying Syria’s Oil Infrastructure Under Guise of Fighting ISIS

The US is considering bombing pipelines in Syria, which it claims is in an attempt to cut off the huge profits being made by ISIS from captured oilfields.

The Independent quotes Julieta Valls Noyes, the deputy assistant secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs during a visit to London, that ISIS was making $2 million a day off oil sales and that the US would consider airstrikes as well as “kinetic strikes against some pipelines” and “actual physical action to stop the flow”.

The trouble with this justification for destroying Syria’s oil pipelines, is that ISIS does not have the capability to use the pipelines to transfer oil. ISIS transports the stolen oil on the back of trucks, and sells it on the black market in Turkey.

9/11 Was NATO’s License to Expand Globally

The 9/11 attacks on the United States undoubtedly benefited a number of actors, including the American military-intelligence complex, Israel, and most definitely, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The Cold War-era, the area of responsibility for which had long been confined to Europe and North America, used the provisions of Article 5 of the NATO Charter – which states that an attack on one member is an attack on all – to extend NATO’s power deep into Eurasia, particularly in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

After engaging in out-of-area invasions and occupations of Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Libya, and Syria and, again in Iraq, against the «Islamic State,» the «North Atlantic» military bloc has transformed itself from a Cold War defensive alliance into a global offensive axis of nations that acts with or without United Nations authorization.

Rogers: Can't rule out boots on the ground in Syria

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers said on Sunday it's important not to rule out putting troops on the ground in Syria to combat the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, but smaller, more targeted steps are needed first.

For example, placing special capability soldiers among Syrian rebels will help them fight better, the Michigan Republican said on CBS' "Face the Nation." The U.S. also needs a better strategy for combating ISIL, Rogers said. After meeting with British officials, he said a lack of strategy in the U.S. is a glaring problem.

"I think what shocked our British friends is this lack of strategy," he said. "I think that they’ll be with us if we can put together a coherent strategy for Syria and Iraq. I really do believe that."

"If you think about what we’re doing, it’s really small pecks at a really big problem," Rogers added.

Webmaster's Commentary:

CODSWALLOP, INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN ROGERS!!

Embedding "special capacity soldiers" with Syrian rebels on the ground, means that the US government has its military's boots on the ground, period, end of discussion.

And it is utterly no secret, sir, that the US is hoping to achieve regime change in Syria in order to engineer regime change in Iran, in spite of the accords the P5 + 1 and their Iranian counterparts are desperately working to hammer out regarding Iran's nuclear energy program before the deadline of 24 November.

I would like to strongly caution you, sir, that such a war against Iran may well wind up with Russia deciding that it will join such a confrontation on the side of the Iranian government.

As you well know from your briefings on the US government's military status, our country's military does not have the troop strength, the money, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome in such a confrontation.

And if you thing you can convince the very war-weary American public that another shooting war in the Middle East is a good idea, you are very, very sorely mistaken, and completely, in-your-face, out of touch with your constituents.

These wars are for the protection of the hegemony of the US dollar and corporate profit; they do nothing to enhance our freedoms, safety, and way of life.

Is the oil crash a secret US war on Russia?

Lower oil prices, reflected in falling petrol prices at the pump, have been a boon for Western consumers. Are they also a potent US weapon against Russia and Iran?

That’s the conclusion drawn by New York Times columnist Thomas L Friedman, who says the US and Saudi Arabia, whether by accident or design, could be pumping Russia and Iran to brink of economic collapse.

Despite turmoil in many of the world’s oil-producing countries – Libya, Iraq, Nigeria and Syria – prices are hitting lows not seen in years, Friedman writes.

Analysts identify a number of possible reasons for the steep drop – increased US production, slowing economies in Europe and China and steady production from the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec).

Rather than look at the causes, however, Friedman says to look at the result – budget shortfalls in Russia and Iran – and what it means.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As reported on 11 October, 2014 at zerohedge.net:

What was not clear is what was the other part: what did the Saudis bring to the table, or said otherwise, how exactly it was that Saudi Arabia would compensate the US for bombing the Assad infrastructure until the hated Syrian leader was toppled, creating a power vacuum in his wake that would allow Syria, Qatar, Jordan and/or Turkey to divide the spoils of war as they saw fit. A glimpse of the answer was provided earlier in the article "The Oil Weapon: A New Way To Wage War", because at the end of the day it is always about oil, and leverage. The full answer comes courtesy of Anadolu Agency, which explains not only the big picture involving Saudi Arabia and its biggest asset, oil, but also the latest fracturing of OPEC at the behest of Saudi Arabia... Saudi Arabia to pressure Russia, Iran with price of oil Saudi Arabia will force the price of oil down, in an effort to put political pressure on Iran and Russia, according to the President of Saudi Arabia Oil Policies and Strategic Expectations Center. Saudi Arabia plans to sell oil cheap for political reasons, one analyst says. To pressure Iran to limit its nuclear program, and to change Russia's position on Syria, Riyadh will sell oil below the average spot price at $50 to $60 per barrel in the Asian markets and North America, says Rashid Abanmy, President of the Riyadh-based Saudi Arabia Oil Policies and Strategic Expectations Center. The marked decrease in the price of oil in the last three months, to $92 from $115 per barrel, was caused by Saudi Arabia, according to Abanmy. With oil demand declining, the ostensible reason for the price drop is to attract new clients, Abanmy said, but the real reason is political. Saudi Arabia wants to get Iran to limit its nuclear energy expansion, and to make Russia change its position of support for the Assad Regime in Syria. Both countries depend heavily on petroleum exports for revenue, and a lower oil price means less money coming in, Abanmy pointed out. The Gulf states will be less affected by the price drop, he added.

Lavrov: Russia supplying weapons to Iraq, Syria

Russia is supporting the governments of Iraq and Syria with massive supplies of weaponry and military equipment in order to help them fight against extremist groups, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday.

Lavrov, speaking at a panel discussion focusing on Russia’s foreign policy, said that with the Russian aid, the Iraqi and Syrian governments' combat capacity has been greatly enhanced.

The Russian minister continued by saying that only the United Nations Security Council has the right to form a coalition against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL.

Lavrov said that any plans made outside the Security Council are worrying because "these attempts result in an accumulation of chaos."

“Mrs. Shim most likely died as a result of her tireless pursuit of truth which is suppressed by media in the West. Mrs. Shim appears to be the victim of a CIA black op, most likely with the cooperation of Turkey who just recently accused her of being a ‘spy’ after she exposed Turkey’s assistance of ISIL,” Martin said.

Who will Turkey 'train and equip' in Syria?

The visit to Turkey last week of retired Marine Gen. John Allen, the US special presidential envoy for the global coalition to counter IS, and Brett McGurk, deputy assistant secretary of state, as reported here, is a case in point. Turkey made no concession to allow reinforcement of Syrian Kurdish rebels battling IS forces in Kobani. US officials had to backtrack, with some awkwardness, on whether Turkey had agreed to the use of the Incirlik air base by the United States for attacks against IS forces; Ankara had not granted permission, at least not yet.

Fiercest fighting in days hits Syrian border town

The fiercest fighting in days shook the Syrian border town of Kobani overnight, sources inside the town and a monitoring group said on Sunday, as Islamic State militants attacked Kurdish fighters with mortars and car bombs.

Islamic State, which controls much of Syria and Iraq, fired 44 mortars at Kurdish parts of the town on Saturday, some of which fell inside Turkey, according to the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. It said four more were fired on Sunday.

Gen. Allen: US Won’t Coordinate With Existing Syrian Rebels

Speaking to reporters today at the State Department, Gen. John Allen, who has been advising President Obama on his new war against ISIS, today revealed that the administration has no plans to ever coordinate with the Free Syrian Army (FSA) or any other of the existing rebel factions.

That’s a surprise, because officials have been harping on for years about how great these factions are, and have been lavishing them with US arms and funding.

The FSA is forever complaining about not getting enough aid from the US, as their way of explaining how years of rebellion has them with virtually no territory and sloughing off fighters to ISIS and other more successful factions at an alarming rate. Now, the US appears to be comfortable just cutting them loose.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This administration is pathologically incapable of looking toward long-term strategies to keep the US safe and prosperous.

Attacking Syria, with any US-led assets, is not something that will make this country more safe and prosperous.

The only reason that the US government wants al-Assad out in Damascus is to pave the way for an invasion of Iran, and create regime change in Tehran.

And NO POLITICAL ENTITY wants this more than the government in Tel Aviv.

Someone needs to be reminded, in the bowels of the halls of power in DC, that not everything that is in Israel's best interests are not at all in We the People's best interest.

Certainly not for those military personnel who will be dispatched to fight, get killed or maimed for life, in this potential military misadventure.

The coming round of talks with Iran, I would be willing to bet, will consist of the US attempting to "run out the clock", as one says in football, then the complete abandonment of any talks after this.

Many Russian military and politicians have stated very bluntly that any attack against Iran will be seen as an attack against Russia's national interests.

IF, in fact, the US attacks Iran, it may be looking at a war against Russia. At this time in our history, the US does not have the money, the troop strength, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a war against Russia, and that is what makes the military scenario so scarily dangerous.

Obama Knew Arming Rebels Was Useless, But Did It Anyway

What’s worse: Launching a disastrous military campaign under false pretenses to achieve goals you wrongly believe are attainable? Or launching a disastrous military campaign you know is doomed in order to help your party win an election?

I ask in light of today’s New York Times story about how President Obama asked the CIA a while back whether arming rebel forces – pretty much the agency’s signature strategy — had ever worked in the past.

He was told that it almost never has.

But then in June, once the political pressure for intervention in Syria got too great, he did just that — sending weapons to rebels fighting the Syrian military.

Yes: He knew better, but he did it anyway.

McCain urges ground troops to defeat Isis: 'They're winning, and we're not'

Senator John McCain has warned that the Islamic State (Isis) is winning in Iraq and Syria, and that the United States needs to deploy ground troops if it is to stave off defeat.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Okay John, if you really feel that way, here's your rifle and here's your parachute. We ran out of the desert camo but here is a bright day-glo orange jumpsuit left over from the CIA's torture centers and we think the cleaners got most of the blood out. Watch your head climbing into that transport plane and we will call Assad and tell him you are on your way to kick his butt all by yourself.

But We The People remember the lies about stolen incubators that tricked us into the first invasion of Iraq.

We The People remember the lies about Saddam's nuclear weapons that tricked us into the second invasion of Iraq.

We The People remember how only a year ago you tried to trick us into war with Syria with more lies about poison gas.

We The People remember how there weren't really torpedoes in the Gulf of Tonkin or a Spanish mine in Havane Harbor, but how there really WERE weapons on board the Lusitania.

In short, We The People remember all the lies, frauds, and deceptions used to trick us into wars of conquest, to send our young people out to die in wars created out of thin air by and for the money-junkies. I think it is time that wee have a new rule in America; that those who want war are the first to the front lines. You are all splendidly brave with the lives of other peoples' children. Let's see the true measure of your courage and commitment to war.

You first!

Turkish jets bomb Kurdish PKK rebels near Iraq

Turkish F-16 and F-4 warplanes have bombed Kurdish PKK rebel targets near the Iraqi border, as their ceasefire comes under increasing strain.

The air strikes on Daglica were in response to PKK shelling of a military outpost, the armed forces said.

Both sides have been observing a truce and it is the first major air raid on the PKK since March 2013.

Kurds are furious at Turkey's inaction as Islamic State (IS) militants attack the Syrian border town of Kobane.

ISIS proves flexible as its tactics evolve in fight against the West

This summer, Islamic State fighters swept into the expanse of desert straddling the Iraq-Syria border. Riding in pickup trucks mounted with heavy machine guns, supported by skilled snipers and at least one tank, the Islamists captured the town of Rabia on the Syrian side of the border.

Kurdish militia fighters from the People’s Protection Units — known by its Kurdish acronym YGP — rushed to the neighboring town of Al Yarubiyah, on the Iraqi side, in a desperate effort to contain the militants’ advance. What followed was a two-month stalemate, as both sides harassed each other with machine guns, mortars and snipers.

Then in late September, U.S.-led airstrikes hit Islamic State forces in Rabia. The Kurdish YPG troops timed their counterattack perfectly. Reeling from the combined aerial and ground assault, the militants fell back. The Kurds liberated Rabia.

Saudi Arabia's "Oil-Weapon" Hits Europe

We first exposed the "secret" US-Saudi deal in September which led to the inevitable bombing of Syria. We then progressed to explain the quid pro quo of the deal in lower oil prices (benefiting US consumers into an election and crushing Russian revenues). In today's Wall Street Journal we get the final piece of the puzzle as it is clear that what Saudi Arabia loses in 'price' it will make up in 'volume' as The Kingdom is taking the unusual step of asking buyers to commit to maximum shipments if they want to get its crude. Simply put, "they are threatening [European] buyers" to discontinue sales if they don't agree with the full fixed deliveries. The 'oil weapon' grows stronger...

Days after slashing prices in Asia, Saudi Arabia is now making an aggressive push in the European oil market, traders say.

The kingdom is taking the unusual step of asking buyers to commit to maximum shipments if they want to get its crude.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, the quid pro quo for slashing its prices was that the US was going to accomplish regime change in Damascus, ousting Al-Assad once and for all.

This bothers me tremendously, both morally and legally.

We are bombing a sovereign nation which has done absolutely nothing against the United States; we are destroying its oil infrastructure; its food infrastructure; and its civilian infrastructure (by bombing residential areas).

And why?!?

Ultimately, to force regime change in Teheran, something Tel Aviv and certain elements in DC want to see happen.

The P5+1 meetings regarding Iran's nuclear energy program are just for show, and I would almost bet real money that by the end of next month, there will be neither a viable agreement will be reached, nor a desperately-needed extension of these talks.

And again, members of our American military will fight, be killed outright, or maimed for live; all in the service of private, corporate, profit.

Kobani is Falling to ISIS in Syria. Kurd Protests Explode in Turkey.

It is like old times. Kurdish protestors clashing with Turkish riot police in towns across southeastern Turkey and ultranationalists taking to the streets, too, flashing the symbol of the Grey Wolves, a violent far-right group that was responsible for more than 700 murders in the vicious political violence that engulfed the country in the 1970s.

But the events provoking this madness are absolutely current. Just across the border in Syria, the city of Kobani, once home to more than 50,000 people – most of them Kurds – is about to fall to the forces of the so-called Islamic State, better known as ISIS or ISIL. Kurdish militias – men and women – have held off the savage jihadists for weeks now despite being outnumbered and outgunned. In the last few days U.S. airstrikes have slowed the ISIS advances, but not enough. ISIS has taken more than half the town, including major government buildings.

The facade of the new US-led campaign to ‘degrade and destroy’ ISIS/ISIL

For nearly three years now, 21WIRE has been reporting on how Washington and London, along with the GCC feudal kings, have been busy plotting, planning, funding and doing destabilization in Syria (view our Syria Archives here). Instead, what the public have is a stead stream of tired lies regarding the real US-UK-Turkey-GCC axis motivations in Syria.

If you truly want to know how ISIS came to infest Syria (or Iraq for that matter) just ask Hillary Clinton about her little project called, ‘Friends of Syria’. Funny how she jumped ship from her Secretary of State position just months before the West nearly declared war against Damascus in September 2013. Under Hillary’s nurturing care, al-Qaeda, al-Nusra and ISIS – were somehow funded, manned, armed and encouraged to run wild through Syria because the Great and the Good thought they’d help to displace the regime of Syria’s maligned leader Bashar al-Assad.

Despite demands, Syria no-fly zone a no-go for US

Turkey and other American allies want the U.S. to create a no-fly zone inside Syrian territory. Why Oil Is Plunging: The Other Part Of The "Secret Deal" Between The US And Saudi Arabia

Two weeks ago, we revealed one part of the "Secret Deal" between the US and Saudi Arabia: namely what the US 'brought to the table' as part of its grand alliance strategy in the middle east, which proudly revealed Saudi Arabia to be "aligned" with the US against ISIS, when in reality John Kerry was merely doing Saudi Arabia's will when the WSJ reported that "the process gave the Saudis leverage to extract a fresh U.S. commitment to beef up training for rebels fighting Mr. Assad, whose demise the Saudis still see as a top priority."

The ISIS siege of Kobane continued overnight while cities across Turkey were set ablaze by Kurdish protestors. At least 19 civilians were killed by Turkish riot police who were trying to disperse angry crowds that had gathered to protest the government’s unwillingness to defend the predominantly Kurdish city. According to Hurriyet, “The worst violence was seen in Diyarbak?r during a reported gunfight between the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) supporters and Hizbullah, a radical Islamist group whose members are mostly Kurdish and who allegedly aided the state in the torture and killing of Kurdish activists in the 1990s.” (Hurriyet)

Secret Russian spy base in Syria seized by Western-backed rebels

The Western-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) said it took over the spy base on Sunday, following several weeks of fighting against rival groups, including Syrian government soldiers and members of Jabhat al-Nusra, al-Qaeda’s branch in Syria. The FSA said the base, referred to as “Center C” by Russian intelligence, had been under Russian command until it was abandoned at a time and for reasons that remain unknown. In a three-minute video released by the Western-backed rebel group on YouTube, an FSA officer appears to be guiding the cameraman around part of the seized base. He points to several diagrams and captions on the walls, which are both in Arabic and in Russian. At some point in the video, the seal of Syrian intelligence is clearly visible, placed next to the seal of the GRU’s 6th Directorate, the branch of Russian military intelligence that is tasked with collecting signals intelligence (SIGINT).

Webmaster's Commentary:

More Russia bashing, I see.

Such alleged "evidence" could be very easily faked, for the camera.

And even IF such a base existed, Russia and Syria have been militarily cooperative for some time, which is another reason to look at not attacking Syria militarily with ground troops.

Because at some point, Russia will be aggravated enough to stop the US madness in the Middle East, once and for all.

And that will be brutal, because the US military, at this time in its history, does not have the money, the manufacturing, or the troop strength to insure a positive outcome to a conventional military confrontation with Russia.

I cannot tell you when precisely the Russian government will make such a move; I can only tell you that with renewed military hostilities in the region, it is coming.

Pentagon to Brief Obama on Grim Battle Against Jihadists

President Barack Obama is heading to the Pentagon Wednesday afternoon for an update on the battle against the Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS), and he’s not going to like what he hears. The key Syrian town of Kobani is likely to fall to ISIS fighters in coming days, senior U.S. military officials will tell Obama—and there’s not a whole lot the U.S. and its allies can do to halt the ISIS victory or the expected bloodbath following its collapse.

US Air Raids: The Unlearned Lesson of Libya

In 2011 NATO air strikes against Libya that were carried out under the pretext of the urgent need of protecting civilians from a “violent dictator“, cleared the road to power for radical militants. Three years ago, once Muammar Gaddafi had been brutally murdered in October 2011, these militants took over Libya by filling the vacuum created by foreign intervention. From that moment on the country had been plunged deeper into bloodshed created by the former revolutionaries as they cut each other’s throats in a fight for rich oil-producing regions.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So far, the only thing US military intervention has done in Iraq, Libya, and (soon) Syria, is to make the situation worse.

US Military Finds a Target Weak Enough to Debut F-22 'Superjet'

In a move designed to amaze Americans and awe enemies and allies alike, the United States Military at last eased--gently, ever so gently--the now legendary F-22 wonder jet into 'combat.' The most sophisticated and expensive warplane in US history (which as of last week was still untested in combat) was inserted into a combat scenario that was essentially the military equivalent of taking on a newborn baby kitten: bombing ISIS training camps in Northern and Western Syria.
