Afghan retreat echoes of Vietnam defeat

The “exceptional” Americans in Washington like to refer to their foreign interventions as “nation building.” Like Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan, among dozens of other unfortunate countries to have hosted American “nation builders” over the past century, the people of these wretched lands have experienced Washington’s reverse Midas Touch. Far from turning to gold, everything Washington touches brings death and destruction.

It didn’t quite garner the same media highlight, but nevertheless there was the unmistakable comparison this week between the evacuation of American troops from southern Afghanistan and the Fall of Saigon, South Vietnam, in 1975.

Powder Keg: Cliven Bundy Supporters Openly Warn Feds To Stand Down In 3 Million Acre Land Grab

In today’s episode, Pete relives the original Bundy Ranch standoff, and he also conveys his belief that a 2nd Bundy Ranch Standoff will ensue if the federal government dares to take the 3 million acres they have recently proposed and published on their website. Santilli’s comments are important, especially as they relate to the U.S. Constitution. Article one, section 7 paragraph 17 of the U.S. Constitution specifically prohibits what the U.S. Government can and cannot own as far as land. Taking 3 million acres from the American people is outright unconstitutional, and Santilli tells Senator Harry Reid, the BLM, the DOJ and every other communist who has infiltrated the U.S. Government that we will not let them take the land from the people of the state of Nevada. Santilli openly calls for a 2nd Bundy Ranch Standoff in order to defend our constitutional rights as a people.

Over 214,000 Doctors Opt Out of Obamacare Exchanges

Over 214,000 doctors won’t participate in the new plans under the Affordable Care Act (ACA,) analysis of a new survey by Medical Group Management Association shows. That number of 214,524, estimated by American Action Forum, is through May 2014, but appears to be growing due to plans that force doctors to take on burdensome costs. It’s also about a quarter of the total number of 893,851 active professional physicians reported by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

The government should never be able to take property from innocent Americans. That is a blatant violation of our Fifth Amendment rights. US beginning to ‘disengage’ from Israel: Analyst

A combination of factors is pushing the United States to “disengage” from Israel, a regime that will not last a month without US support, says an analyst.

“Times are changing for Israel, they spend a lot of money to manipulate public opinion, all of Hollywood and mass media is Jewish-controlled (and) Zionist-controlled, and people realize the lies that are being told to them on their Nightly News on a daily basis,” he said.

“But the American people can see through this. The American people, particularly at university level, are smart (and) well-educated and they have this implicit sense of fairness,” he added.
“All of this combined” Harris said, “is adding up to what is going to be a perfect storm for Israel where the people of the US are going to reject Israel, and that is the process that we are beginning to see the early stages of.”

Iraq divided: The fight against ISIL

As the US strikes ISIL targets in Iraq, we report from Erbil on the consequences of the latest foreign intervention.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) today controls as much as one-third of Iraq’s territory, including the second largest city, Mosul.

Although the group’s power and influence expanded in Syria, Iraq is where it was born during the nearly nine-year-long US occupation of the country.
Thus far, tens of thousands of people have had to flee their homes as ISIL captures towns and villages.

ISIL-held territory is tightly controlled, off-limits to even journalists and human rights workers.

As the US steps up its air campaign against the group, Fault Lines travels some 900km across Iraq to look at the consequences of the fight against ISIL.

John Pilger marks the death of former Australian prime minister Gough Whitlam with the one story missing from the ‘tributes’ to a man whose extraordinary political demise is one of America’s dirtiest secrets.

Across the political and media elite in Australia, a silence has descended on the memory of the great, reforming prime minister Gough Whitlam, who has died. His achievements are recognized, if grudgingly, his mistakes noted in false sorrow. But a critical reason for his extraordinary political demise will, they hope, be buried with him.

Sergey Lavrov: The elections are being monitored by observers, including OSCE observers, and there are Russian representatives among them. CIA Mouthpiece Lets Slip On Russian ‘Aggression’

For months now, Western mass media have been in lockstep with the US State Department and the NATO military alliance, promulgating claims of Russian aggression in Ukraine and towards Europe generally. The mantra-like repetition of these claims, with scant substantiation, resembles the Big Lie technique of Third Reich master propagandist Josef Goebbels. Told often and brazenly enough, the claims acquire normalcy as «accepted facts».

Western news media, from the BBC to the New York Times, uncritically peddle NATO and Washington claims that Moscow has «annexed» Crimea and infiltrated troops into eastern Ukraine to destabilize the pro-Western «government» in Kiev. Last month at the NATO summit in Wales, outgoing secretary general Anders Fogh Rasmussen asserted: «So we continue to call on Russia to pull back its troops from Ukrainian borders, [and] to stop the flow of weapons and fighters into Ukraine».

Hungary Rocked by Huge Protest over Controversial Internet Tax

Tens of thousands of Hungarians flocked to the streets of the capital Budapest to protest plans of the government to levy the Internet.

Demonstrations were held on Tuesday evening despite the cabinet's assurances only Internet providers will be charged, since critics, and the opposition as well, argue the move would hurt Hungary's digital economy and also affect household consumers by raising Internet bills.

About 35 000 to 40 000 people gathered in downtown Budapest according to Hungarian media outlets cited by Germany's Zeit, just two days after a smaller demo was held Sunday.

Truthers as Terrorists: Who are the terrorists today?

A Canadian reporter has introduced a new phrase, “terrorist truthers”, as the initial stage in creating a new semantic club to use against critics of government ops and of false flag attacks.

The reporter, Brian Lilley, has used the occasion of the alleged attack on the Canadian Parliament–almost certainly itself an arranged event–to assail those who do not condemn it as “terrorism”.

While that sounds like typical politics, where right-wingers are eager to politicize such events and left-wingers more cautious and hesitant, a bit more appears to be going on here than that.

Joshua Blakeney, for example, has observed that this event appears tailor-made to be used as a justification to silence critics of Israel. And it also looks as though the phrase, once introduced, will then gradually be extended in meaning to include 9/11 Truthers and 7/7 Truthers, as David Cameron, the UK PM, recently proposed.

Now is Not the Time to Let the Tyrants Break Our Will to Resist Attacking Our Liberties Overwhelming Us With Crisis After Crisis

The Special Interest Problem

Like those with a strong addiction, these politicians seem unable to free themselves from the monkey on their back.

If the politician defies the lobby making the offer (a rare event but not unheard of), that special interest will throw its support to the defiant politician’s electoral opponent. The result is that most politicians are in lockstep with the demands of multiple powerful special interests.

If there is a way out of this dilemma it must come from the general public. The long-standing dissatisfaction with politicians, especially on the national level, must be channeled into a popular campaign to free the legislators and policy makers from the influence of narrow interests.

Feds Retaliate against the Bundy Ranch and the Southern Nevada People

Feds Retaliate against the Bundy Ranch and the Southern Nevada People On Friday October 10th, 2014 a Notice from the federal registry reveals that the federal government is mounting retaliations against the Bundy family and the Southern Nevada people.

Federal Register / Vol. 79, No.197 Notice, outlines plans to make the Bundy ranch and most of the rest of Southern Nevada, Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACECs). 90 days from October 10th, 2014 these proposals will become federal law without consent from the Nevada State legislatures or the people of Southern Nevada.

Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACECs) are human restricted management areas. ACECs have been a tool used by the federal government to gain further control of large masses of western lands and the resources.

As proposed, nearly 3 million acres in Southern Nevada will be locked away from the people. This includes most uses on the land (recreational, agricultural or otherwise).

The Illusion of Democracy

The electoral process is an essential part of “the consent of the governed” defined by Rousseau. In almost all of the so-called democratic countries, however, the important act of voting to elect the people’s representatives has become an exercise in futility. Today politicians, who still have the audacity to call themselves public servants, are the obedient executors of the trans-national global corporate elite. These politicians are actors who are cast to perform in opaque screenplays written by top corporate power brokers and marketed to the public like products. In this sad state of affairs that passes for democracy, citizens have become blind consumers of products, which are political figureheads working for global corporate interests. For any organism to remain healthy, it must be able to excrete. The same applies to our collective social body, but instead of regularly eliminating our political residue and flushing it away, we recycle it.

As for Washington/Wall Street, the Empire of Chaos is certainly not happy – and that’s a major euphemism, especially after betting on the wrong horse, Marina Silva, a sort of Amazon rainforest-born female counterpart to Obama’s “change we can believe in.” The fact is, as much as the Brazilian model of income distribution is against the interests of big business, Brazilian foreign policy is now diametrically opposed to Washington’s.

It had been the endless theme of the post-9/11 era, how thankful other Americans were that we would do… well, what exactly, for them? And here it was again. I couldn’t help wondering: Would veterans somewhere actually feel the gratitude that Starbucks and HBO hoped to convey?

Treating Putin Like a Lunatic when He makes Sense

Official Washington treats whatever comes out of Russian President Putin’s mouth as the ravings of a lunatic, even when what he says is obviously true or otherwise makes sense, as the New York Times has demonstrated again.

Rationality and realism seem to have lost any place in the workings of the mainstream U.S. news media.

When reading the New York Times on many foreign policy issues, it doesn’t take a savant to figure out what the newspaper’s bias is. Anything, for instance, relating to Russian President Vladimir Putin drips of contempt and hostility.

US lawlessness fuels global insecurity

In an insightful geopolitical speech this week, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the US of instigating global instability and insecurity.

All in all, President Putin is right. The world has become a fearful, nervous place seemingly on a hair-trigger for over-reaction and irrational panic. This state of insecurity has, as Putin says, been brought on by years of lawless conduct by the US and its Western allies. The criminal wars of Iraq and Afghanistan – with millions of innocent victims – have multiplied and mutated into more and more illegal interventions and malignancies, such as the extremist ISIL network that is destabilizing Syria and the wider Middle East region.

JFK: THE ZIONIST MANIFOLD COVER-UP

To discover the deepest truth of the JFK assassination, one has to tear up not one, but many lies stacked on top of each other. Pealing off the government lie is just the beginning. Just like in the case of 9/11, the mainstream “JFK truth movement” is really a cloud of partial truths meant to hide the core truth (the Zionist coup).

The hijacked plot theory is fully consistent with the profiles of the two main known actors in the drama: Lee Harvey Oswald, the patsy falsely accused of killing the President, and Jack Ruby, the man who killed the patsy and thereby closed the case.

Kiev Elections Can’t Sanitise State of Mob Rule

In the paraphrased words of Abraham Lincoln, no electoral process can sanitize the glaring fact of Kiev’s rule of the mob, by the mob, for the mob.

The Kiev regime’s parliamentary elections this weekend are set to go ahead amid an atmosphere of rampant political street violence and intimidation – and that’s not in the war-torn eastern part of Ukraine. Poroshenko denies the bitter reality of violence that has engulfed all of Ukraine under the Western-sponsored regime change operation in his country.

The parliamentary elections were called in June by the then elected President Petro Poroshenko as a way of legitimizing the illegal coup against the Ukrainian government that occurred four months previously with the support of the American Central Intelligence Agency.

Political parties that might have been considered in alliance because of their support for the coup against the Ukrainian government in February are now being caught up in an anarchic state of hoodlum vendettas.

Western Sponsors Liable for Kiev Basket Case

Washington is even more circumspect than Brussels on the matter of providing hard cash to Kiev, as opposed to lots of hot-air promises of nebulous aid. One gets the feeling that the Western sponsors know full well that this regime is a basket case. Nevertheless, these Western sponsors are liable for the basket case that they created.

Since Washington and Brussels shunted the geopolitical tracks in the first place to create the financial train wreck that is now manifestly the Ukraine, you would think that there might be a sense of obligation on Western governments to salvage the mess. Not a bit of it, it seems.

Furthermore, the train wreck is careening dangerously into the Russian economy. But still, the Western governments adopt an attitude that Moscow must pay for the damages.

New York Fed’s Conference Evokes Thoughts of Violence Against Wall Street

“Since 2008, fines imposed on the nation’s largest banks have far exceeded $100 billion. The pattern of bad behavior did not end with the financial crisis, but continued despite the considerable public sector intervention that was necessary to stabilize the financial system. As a consequence, the financial industry has largely lost the public trust. To illustrate, a 2012 Harris poll found that 42 percent of people responded either ‘somewhat’ or ‘a lot’ to the statement that Wall Street ‘harms the country’; furthermore, 68 percent disagreed with the statement: ‘In general, people on Wall Street are as honest and moral as other people.’ ”

Further cementing that public distrust, the media was barred from attending Monday’s conference at the New York Fed. Press members who nonetheless reported on the event evoked a recurring theme of violent acts to deal with incorrigible actors.

Philip Giraldi: Stopping Cyber Hate

ADL has recently been meeting in California with a British group called the Inter-Parliamentary Coalition for Combating Anti-Semitism, which included the Community Security Trust (CST). The CST advocates physical response to anti-Semitic incidents, to include the equipping and training of organized “self-defense” forces. CST is controversial in the UK, partly because many British Jews believe they are adequately protected by the police. It has also been criticized because its Director is the highest paid head of any Jewish organization in the country and its finances are alleged to be non-transparent.

An article entitled “Web giants unite to fight online hate” described the purpose of the California meeting. It reported that a “game changing” agreement was reached with Twitter, Facebook, Google and Microsoft to take steps to stop “the proliferation of racist and abusive comments” and to “force racism and hatred from the web.”

Hollow Justice and Courts of Order in an Age of Government-Sanctioned Tyranny

With every ruling handed down, it becomes more apparent that we live in an age of hollow justice, with government courts, largely lacking in vision and scope, rendering narrow rulings focused on the letter of the law. This is true at all levels of the judiciary, but especially so in the highest court of the land, the U.S. Supreme Court, which is seemingly more concerned with establishing order and protecting government agents than with upholding the rights enshrined in the Constitution.

October 22: National Protest Against The Police State

Activist Post

Every single day carries a new story (or stories) about egregious assaults by police against the citizens who have entrusted (and paid) them to serve and protect. Even the Bureau of Justice Statistics had to conclude recently that police brutality is grossly unchecked across the nation by the political system. Such unchecked power is even more frightening when we see police becoming as militarized as any Third World dictatorship. And of course, to back up this lawlessness is a ready-and-waiting prison-industrial complex that leads the world in caging its own citizens.

Shooting pets, tasering kids, no-knock SWAT raids, raping, pillaging ... you name it - and it will only get worse until people have the courage to take action in huge numbers and put a stop to this madness that has been tolerated for way too long.

Soros and the CIA Now Banking on Neves to Defeat Rousseff

President Rousseff’s policies have created powerful enemies within the walls of the CIA in Langley, Virginia and among the board rooms of Wall Street and the West’s most powerful corporations. She succeeded in proving the polls and pundits wrong on October 5 but October 26 remains yet another hurdle.

With Brazilian voters wise to Silva’s puppet strings to Soros and other global bankers, she managed to only come in third on October 5. Silva subsequently endorsed Neves, Soros’s second selection to take over the reins of presidential power in Brazil from Rousseff.

Neves’s chief economic adviser and the man who would become Finance Minister in a Neves presidency is Arminio Fraga Neto. A former close friend and associate of Soros and his Quantum hedge fund.

US official calls for military coup against President Obama

Debbie Dunnegan Waters, the Republican recorder of deeds for Jefferson County, Missouri posed a question in a Facebook post last week to the military that why it has not launched a coup against America’s commander-in-chief.

In the post, she argued that “the constitution gives [the military] the authority” to take out Obama.”

“But I cannot and do not understand why no action is being taken against our domestic enemy,” she wrote.

Los Angeles activists block unloading of Israeli cargo ship for two days

The Block the Boat coalition of Los Angeles claimed another victory this weekend after an Israeli cargo ship, the Zim Savannah, delayed docking at the port of Long Beach for at least 34 hours.

Cookie Partansky, an organizer with the LA Block the Boat coalition, told The Electronic Intifada that approximately 150 activists gathered at the Los Angeles port at 6am on Saturday, 18 October. The morning’s action followed weeks of communication with the longshoremen’s union and educating workers about Israel’s brutal occupation of Palestine, as well as the group’s reasons for targeting Zim, an Israeli shipping line.

Ultra-Orthodox Jews attack Jerusalem buses over ad

JERUSALEM (AP) — Dozens of ultra-Orthodox Jews hurled stones and slashed the tires of buses bearing ads promoting female worship at a key Jerusalem holy site, Israeli police said Tuesday.

The attack, which happened on Monday night in Jerusalem's ultra-Orthodox Mea Shearim neighborhood, underscores the still simmering tensions in Israel over religious extremists who want to separate the sexes in public spaces.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said police units were dispatched to quell the violence in Mea Shearim where about 50 men slashed tires and pelted the buses with stones.

Viral liturgical psychodrama

In order to successfully navigate the raging sea of media shit storm, one must be ever-mindful of the overall designs of mass media without getting lost in endless details and rabbit trails that will be forgotten in a month. Remember Bowe Bergdahl? Remember how media was furiously researching his back story to make details match up, all of which ended up being a futile effort. Remember the Malaysian planes? I continually bring these recent reality television news events to mind because they are so illustrative of the present Ebola crisis, playing in all theaters 24/7 near you. Just as the details of the stories of Bergdahl didn’t match up, as he went right back to a military post, so Al-Ebola, our new, very minuscule terrorist organization’s details, in regard to its victims, do not and will not match up. Al-Ebola will probably fixate the mass gaze until vaccination season ends, when a new lineup of all-stars for Team Fear are announced.

Israel is losing its friends in the world

Israel has lost its international audience. When Netanyahu warns about the nuclear threat from Iran, even those who worry deeply about Tehran’s intentions respond with a weary shrug. The warnings are seen as a diversion — an effort to distract from his refusal to accept a Palestinian state rather than a clear-headed assessment of a present danger. This cannot be good for Israel.

Such was the backdrop to last week’s vote in the House of Commons. The occasion added lustre to the reputation of the politicians — something too rare these days. The hyperbole and rancour of everyday partisanship made way for reasoned argument. Israel had lobbied hard against the motion. It was soon obvious it had lost its best friends.

Washington Admits: FSA Equals Fictitious Syrian Army

US President Barack Obama hosted a top-level war council this past week in Washington with the military leaders from 21 countries in attendance – under the official remit of coordinating tactics to defeat the Islamic State extremist group in Syria and Iraq.

Hold on a minute. Congress has approved $500 million to train a new cohort of the supposedly moderate and secular Free Syrian Army; and Saudi Arabia and Turkey are providing bases for that undertaking. But at Obama’s seminal war council on «coordinating» plans there was not one representative from the much-vaunted moderate rebels who are assigned this crucial military role.

Illan Pappe & Miko Peled on Zionist Israel

Below are a couple of compelling presentations by brave and bold, historian Illan Pappe, and peace activist Miko Peled respectively.

I salute both men, for having the courage to move outside the Zionist narrative they grew up on, to stand up when their principles called for it, to give us an honest appraisal of where Israel as a society stands today, which most Israelis would prefer to remain in denial of, because, to acknowledge the truth, would destroy all of their sustaining myths and leave them bereft of all of the lies which have sustained and justified their existence.

Miko is absolutely right in his disclaimer, of course… you cannot expect a balance presentation on this topic, because the issue itself is not balanced. There is no balance therefore there cannot be a balanced presentation on this topic, Miko correctly reiterates.

... What was and still is going in the DeSoto County Courthouse are plea deal hearings held behind closed doors inside 12th Circuit Judge James S. Parker’s chambers. The public is not allowed. The closed door hearings are being conducted through audio visual and, at times, an inmate is physically taken there to be threatened. If an inmate is offered a plea deal and does not take it then he/she remains in jail until they are offered another deal, months later. The longest time the accused have remained in the DeSoto County Jail is 3 years. My research has revealed the longest time the accused to remain in a county jail is seven years in Miami, Florida. These detainee’s cases are continued without their knowledge or permission and they remain in jail, “incognito” until they are called for the next plea deal hearing. #StopEbolaStrike: National Strike to Force Obama to Block West African Flights

Infowars.com is calling for a general strike across the United States in response to the federal government’s botched response to the Ebola outbreak and the Obama administration’s refusal to block flights coming in from West Africa.

Countries bordering those in West Africa impacted by the Ebola outbreak have been successful in stopping the spread of the virus by blocking flights, including Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau and Senegal, and yet the Obama administration has refused to do likewise despite innumerable public figures calling on the White House to take action.

Numerous airlines have also restricted flights to Ebola-affected countries and yet the United States remains wide open to potential Ebola patients not only via airports but also via the country’s porous southern border, where hundreds of illegal aliens from Ebola-hit countries have poured across in recent months.

Islamism in Egypt – untangling the confusion - by Tarek Heggy

Since the assassination of the Egyptian Prime Minister in 1945 and 1948, and dozens of other subsequent assassinations – most notably the assassination of President Sadat on October 6th 1981 and the assassinations perpetrated by the Brotherhood today in Egypt – their own history and the unfolding facts on the ground demonstrate that the Muslim Brotherhood have not forsaken violence and murder but rather have bequeathed this to the currents that are spawned from them. Fateful week for US-Iran talks

High expectations have been raised by world statesmen — one Iranian and the other two American — on the eve of the ‘trilateral’ meeting in Vienna today between the US secretary of state John Kerry, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and the Iranian FM Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Monday expressed optimism about a resolution of the nuclear problem in terms that haven’t been articulated before. He said Iran has the “political will” to clinch a deal. Interestingly, he said this in a national address telecast alive.

The signs are that Iran’s Supreme Leader has authorized the Iranian negotiators to clinch a deal. The Iran Daily newspaper, which is identified with the Supreme leader’s office has showered fulsome praise on Rouhani’s policies seeking detente with the West.

Modi Bites the American Bullet

The US, like China, is eager to engage Modi who has a reputation for being decisive and “business-friendly”. But unlike in the case with China, there are no detractors or snipers in the Indian strategic community or the corporate media who would play the spoiler’s role.

What the pundits ask instead is what Modi can do for Obama’s America. They want Modi to hasten the purchase of more arms from the US and “tweak” Indian nuclear liability law so that the Westinghouse could export nuclear reactors to India.

They wish Modi would undo the “negative narrative” causing heavy damage to America’s trading interests by giving the green signal on the Trade Facilitation Agreement of the WTO.

They clamor that Modi should “go the extra mile” by taking at least a “minor role” in the US-led coalition against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

Israel Losing Support In UK Says Ambassador

‘Britain’s ambassador to Israel has warned that the Jewish state is losing support in the UK, blaming the summer offensive in Gaza and increased settlement construction in the Occupied West Bank. His remarks came as a former Conservative minister described the situation in one Palestinian city as “apartheid”.

Europe should not stop there.Imagine that all of the 20 European Union states which have not yet recognized the State of Palestine were to do so and that the EU were then to announce that, if Israel did not comply with international law and relevant UN resolutions by withdrawing fully from the occupied State of Palestine by a specified date, it would impose economic sanctions on Israel and intensify them until Israel did so.

Big things sometimes happen innocuously in politics.

Reading the transcript of Russian Foreign MInister Sergey Lavrov’s interview with Channel Five in Moscow a fortnight ago, one did feel intrigued that almost innocuously, after some scathing criticism of the West’s containment policies toward Moscow, Lavrov switched tack abruptly, toward the end, with some loud thinking that there could still be “something else like reset No. 2 or reset 2.0? between Russia and the US. He left the intriguing thought hanging in the air.

What is Zionism?

- its history and role over the past 150 years

Today, Zionism has become the most dominant ideology in the western world and is the most significant expression of Anglo-American imperialism, and reached a new stage by ”Project for a New American Century”.

Zionism is, according to its own prominent figures, a religious/political movement the aim of which is to create a socialistic model state for Jews in the land of Palestine where Mount Zion is located. Its roots are found in Judaism and in the middle of the nineteenth century Moses Hess, Karl Marx’s mentor in socialism, developed it into a political movement.

Censorship Alert: the Alternative Media Harassed by the NSA

New Horizon Conference: Meeting of Minds in Tehran

The 2nd conference “New Horizon: the International Conference of Independent Thinkers” was held in Tehran, September 29–October 1 2014, including over 30 journalists, writers and academics from around the world presenting papers and arguing issues of world geopolitics, with a focus on the Middle East.

Contrary to the shrill cries in the western media that the conference was anti-Semitic, it was unique in my experience in addressing Zionism and US imperialism forthrightly and intelligently, without a hint of racism. The issue of anti-Semitism was addressed and dismissed, as “There is no issue with Jewish people or the Jewish religion,” explained Darya-Bandari, “but rather with Zionism, that secular distortion of Judaism that itself is racist, and has been used as a pretext to dispossess and kill Palestinians.”

Pepe Escobar: What’s the deal between Iran and the US?

I’ve just spent a frantic week in Tehran as a guest of the New Horizon conference of Independent Thinkers. Here is some of what I’ve witnessed.
Three overarching themes monopolize all important discussions in Tehran at this critical historical juncture:

1) the real possibility of a nuclear deal with the P5+1 on November 24;
2) the end of sanctions and the possibility of Iran soon starting to supply the EU with loads of natural gas;
3) the fight against ISIS/ISIL, which Iranians, as much as the Arab street, refer to as Daesh.

I was quite moved by the profound respect shown to Gareth’s investigative work in Tehran, in contrast to the thunderous wall of silence that greeted his book in the US. Call it yet another reflection of the 35-year old “wilderness of mirrors” – or Wall of Mistrust – opposing Washington to Tehran.

The US soldier who killed herself after refusing to torture

More than a decade ago, when I was the editor of Editor & Publisher, I was, as far as I know, the first writer with a national platform who regularly drew attention to the then largely-hidden tragedy of the rising rate of suicides among American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan--and then after they return home.

Despite the decline in fighting in those two theaters for many years, that suicide rate remains at very high or record levels. Last year there was this troubling report.

I have written about dozens of sad, tragic, individual cases. But one of the saddest of all concerns a young soldier who died eleven years ago last month. Appalled when ordered to take part in interrogations that, no doubt, involved what most would call torture -- another wrong turn by the United States following 9/11 -- Alyssa Peterson refused, then killed herself a few days later, on September 15, 2003.

“All these countries you’re talking about get a lot of money from America, so they’re influenced by America,” Ozeir recalls the officer saying. Ozeir was then taken away for a health screening, bringing the exchange to an end.

A Historic Vote on Palestine in the British Parliament

The idea of Israel is changing in the minds of its allies. It is no longer a cause. It is becoming heavy baggage.

This is not the effect of a larger Muslim community. All Britons today are more likely to be aware of the 14,000 settlements Israel approved during its nine month peace talks with the Palestinians; to wonder where a Palestinian state is going to go , with more than 600,000 settlers in occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank; to acknowledge the insouciant racism of Israeli discourse about non-Jews; to recoil at the cost in Palestinian civilian lives of Israel’s definition of its own security.

Two Types of Virulent Anti-Semitism

Israel has long devoted major funding and great effort to deflecting blame for its policies and practices by raising the black flag of anti-Semitism to discredit responsible and deserved criticism.

As the Palestinian solidarity movement grows across the world, it is obvious that this form of hasbara (propaganda) is failing.

Minions to evil 0.01%: join humanity’s victory as heroes, or bond with evil’s outcome

For those involved in support of US government-sponsored disinformation and massive crimes that annually kill millions, harm billions, and loot trillions of the 99.99%’s dollars, I invite you to consider the quality of human relationships you wish to work for in creating your future.

National security and a brighter future is not a function of fear, manipulation, and psychopathic control. Our best security follows cooperation, justice under the law, and freedom.

Working for your best imagined self-expression of virtue may include a unique contribution from the inside of your agency. Please consider the wisdom of a “Scrooge conversion” to act for the benefit of all humanity rather than your self-proclaimed loveless “masters.” From Dickens’ 1843 text:

Tens of thousands take to the streets of Dublin to protest against water charges

Thousands of protestors took to the the streets of Dublin today to protest against the water charges.

Ed note: The Irish media are doing their level best to downplay the attendance at these protests. The protest march was over 3.4km long, which does not equate to tens of thousands but rather hundreds of thousands. Many people attended the march not because they don't only want to pay for water... they already do, through taxation and don't want to pay twice... but also to voice their opposition to the stealth privatisation of what is a vital resource and natural monopoly.

Is this Palestine’s last chance?

Ever since I began taking an interest in the Palestinians’ struggle – nearly ten years ago – those brave people have been cursed with rubbish leadership that has taken them steadily backwards instead of forwards… leadership that studiously ignores Palestine’s friends outside, fails its people inside and allows its territory and resources to dwindle.

The words “unity government” are on everyone’s lips. But is it really a good idea for Palestinians to unite under the likes of Abbas and his cockeyed, lazy PLO? Where are the alternative leaders hiding?

Please don’t tell us there aren’t any.

The myth of Assad, ISIL and extremism

Joe Biden’s comments last week linking US Mideast allies to the funding and arming of ISIL, Al Nusra & Al Qaeda were preceded by a surprising number of similar comments by current and former western officials in the past month. This is unusual notes Middle East geopolitical analyst Sharmine Narwani, because the West’s narrative for years has been to blame Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his allies for the proliferation of extremism in the region.

In her latest offering at RT’s Op-Edge, Ms. Narwani examines two secret US documents that tell a different story altogether.

Is Obama Being Threatened by US Hawks with ‘Security Risks’?

Is there something more significant to the rash of disclosures than mere incompetence among the president’s security detail? Are powerful people within the US government perhaps trying to send Obama a grim warning?

We should bear in mind that the US-led military intervention in Iraq and Syria and the growing confrontation with Russia over Ukraine seem to have entered a critical phase. The US military-industrial complex is pushing for a full-scale and relentless intervention in the Middle East, as well as ever-increasing tensions over Ukraine by goading the reactionary Kiev regime into antagonizing Russia.

With billions of dollars at stake from arms sales, business reports have noted that America’s top weapons companies, such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon, are soaring in their stock market values. Every fighter jet sortie in Iraq and Syria, every missile launched, every warship despatched to the Black Sea is rallying stupendous profits for these companies.

Special Report: Flaws found in Ukraine's probe of Maidan massacre

Reuters) - For millions of Ukrainians, it was a crime against humanity. In February, more than 100 protesters were gunned down in the Maidan uprising that toppled the president, Viktor Yanukovich. The victims are now known as “the Heavenly Hundred.”

In April, prosecutors arrested three suspects, members of an elite unit within the “Berkut” riot police. Senior among them was Dmytro Sadovnyk, 38, a decorated commander, who was accused of ordering his men to fire on the crowds on the morning of Feb. 20. The three stand accused of massacring 39 unarmed protesters.

On Sept. 19, the case took a turn when a judge released Sadovnyk into house arrest – and, two weeks later, he went missing.

When activists arrived at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to protest a Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces fundraiser that was coupled with an exhibition game between the Nets and Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv, the police were waiting with a message of their own. As the night unfolded, this message spoke volumes. Protesters would not be allowed on the expansive plaza that unfolds from the front of the Barclays Center all the way to the Atlantic Yards subway entrance. Instead, they would have to be in a fenced-off pen on the narrow strip of sidewalk to the side of the arena. Yes, an outdoor space built with public funds was deemed a privatized, no-free-speech zone, enforced by armed public employees, otherwise known as the police.

Catalan separatists call street protests over referendum ruling

Just hours after the Constitutional Court accepted the government’s appeal of the Catalan referendum on self-rule, the northeastern Spanish region registered its first protests.

Around 300 people congregated in front of the government delegation in Barcelona to express support for the plebiscite, which is scheduled for November 9, and to condemn Madrid’s attempt to get it ruled illegal by a top Spanish court.

This early protest was the beginning of a series of region-wide demonstrations planned for Tuesday by a pro-independence group called National Catalan Assembly (ANC).

Hawaii is not legally a state!

It is easy to find the courage necessary to support a moral position if that position benefits oneself. True moral courage, however, is proven when one chooses to support that which is morally and ethically right even when such a position is to one's one detriment.

The people of the United States find themselves in such a position right now, forced to choose between a moral and ethical position that carries with it the potential for "inconvenience", or supporting the status quo and having to admit to themselves that they are not the champions of justice they imagine themselves to be. By the end of this article, you will know for yourself which one you are.

Most folks have heard that Hawaii is a state, one of the United States of America. Most people, including those who live in Hawaii, accept that statement as a fact.

The Scots are Fallen; Bring On the Catalans!

The stanzas seem to vary but the leitmotif is oddly familiar: we suspect history is rhyming again. The Scottish rebellion by vote has failed, outmanouvered by limey crown rep Cameron who lulled them into a honey trap and beat them soundly with sweet nothings. The Yes camp put up a good fight but turned out to fatally naive in terms of how far the British crown was willing to go to secure the No majority, which should be pretty clear after three centuries of vassal status. The fact that the Yes camp didn’t insist on exit polls or have an observer at every table shows either they were expecting fair play or did not practice due diligence; either way a high price has been paid in realpolitiks currency. Dreadful shame, old chaps. Carry on now.

Imagine banks that support prosperity for everyone - not just the rich.

The Public Banking Institute is an education, research, and action organization dedicated to fostering a new economy based on a network of publicly-owned banks that operate in the public interest. Alternative Media Success Panics NeoCons

While most old people still cling to the corporate media worldview, the young are skewing ever-harder toward alternative perspectives. In Thursday’s Scottish independence referendum, for example, the London Daily Mirror reported that 71% of 16-17 year olds voted “yes” while those over 65 voted “no” by a 73%-27% margin.

Why does the vast majority of Scottish young people favor independence, while an equally crushing majority of old people opposes it?

Short answer: Old people still believe BBC propaganda, while the young do not.

In Colorado, a Student Counterprotest to an Anti-Protest Curriculum

A new conservative school board majority here in the Denver suburbs recently proposed a curriculum-review committee to promote patriotism, respect for authority and free enterprise and to guard against educational materials that “encourage or condone civil disorder.” In response, hundreds of students, teachers and parents gave the board their own lesson in civil disobedience.

On Tuesday, hundreds of students from high schools across the Jefferson County school district, the second largest in Colorado, streamed out of school and along busy thoroughfares, waving signs and championing the value of learning about the fractious and tumultuous chapters of American history.

“It’s gotten bad,” said Griffin Guttormsson, a junior at Arvada High School who wants to become a teacher and spent the school day soliciting honks from passing cars. “The school board is insane. You can’t erase our history. It’s not patriotic. It’s stupid.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

"The most successful tyranny is not the one that uses force to assure uniformity but the one that removes the awareness of other possibilities, that makes it seem inconceivable that other ways are viable, that removes the sense that there is an outside." --Allan Bloom, The Closing of the American Mind

In other words, you are kept slaves not by force, but by making sure you are unaware of alternatives to the imposed reality.

There is nothing new in erasing from the curriculum knowledge the government and the money-junkies do not want you to have. The prime cause of the American Revolution, according to Ben Franklin and many of the other Founding Fathers, was King George III's Currency act, which forced the American colonists to conduct all commerce using bank notes borrowed at interest from the Rothschild-owned Bank of England. This practice plunged the working classes of America into the same crushing poverty as working people in Britain of the same time. In 1913, when a corrupt Congress and a corrupt President sold us back into the slavery of the very same system of banking, the public schools stopped teaching about the Currency act and presented the American Revolution as being about the Stamp Act, tea in Boston Harbor, and so forth, so that generations of Americans, believing they were educated, were ignorant of the fact that this nation was started and did quite well using an entirely different system of national economics.

Today the government doesn't want children growing up aware that there even was a revolution, given that we now suffer many of the same evils that prompted the first one. I am proud of these students and teachers for taking a stand against manufactured history!

Join the first Global Action Day Against the Use of Drones for Surveillance & Killing - October 4, 2014

As global citizens who believe in justice and the rule of law, we oppose weaponized and surveillance drones because their deployment:

violates democratic rights of freedom of speech and assembly and the right not to be unreasonably searched,
is used for extrajudicial "targeted" killings based merely on suspicion -- murders -- even of children inside and outside of war zones,
terrorizes populations in targeted territories, thereby fueling hatred and increasing the cycle of violence,
lowers the threshold to war and initiates a new round in the arms race,
leads to the development of autonomous killer robots, thereby making even more horrifying wars likely.

Important victory in case of Ray McGovern's brutal arrest

The Partnership for Civil Justice Fund is pleased to announce an important victory in the ongoing case of peace activist Ray McGovern, the former CIA analyst, who was brutalized and arrested by officers in 2011 for standing in silent protest during a speech given by then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The PCJF filed a civil rights lawsuit on behalf of Mr. McGovern challenging the arrest and brutality, and seeking an injunction against the State Department related to its issuing a "Be On the Look-Out" ( BOLO) alert against Mr. McGovern which directed agents to stop and question him on sight.

We have obtained the relief sought in the litigation against the Department of State and confirmed that the BOLO alert is now rescinded and that the U.S. State Department has advised other law enforcement that it is non-operational.

Clashes Erupt in Glasgow Square Following Pro-UK Vote

Webmaster's Commentary:

The referendum did not fail, it was stolen. There are photos of YES ballots on the NO piles. There are videos of ballot counters slipping YES votes into the NO piles and even filling out blank ballots to add to the NO piles. The counting center in Dundee was evacuated twice when someone set off false fire alarms, leaving the ballots and ballot boxes totally unguarded. Children as young as three were registered to vote and and because no ID was required, YES voters showed up only to find NO votes had been cast using their names. And there were no exit polls to confirm the official result.

As Kennedy stated, when peaceful revolution becomes impossible, violent revolution becomes inevitable. The violence is the result of the Scots knowing their referendum was rigged to keep them slaves to Britain.

Scotland’s Independence Vote Shows a Global Crisis of the Elites

When you get past the details of the Scottish independence referendum Thursday, there is a broader story underway, one that is also playing out in other advanced nations.

It is a crisis of the elites. Scotland’s push for independence is driven by a conviction — one not ungrounded in reality — that the British ruling class has blundered through the last couple of decades. The same discontent applies to varying degrees in the United States and, especially, the eurozone. It is, in many ways, a defining feature of our time.

The rise of Catalan would-be secessionists in Spain, the rise of parties of the far right in European countries as diverse as Greece and Sweden, and the Tea Party in the United States are all rooted in a sense that, having been granted vast control over the levers of power, the political elite across the advanced world have made a mess of things.
