A Simple Solution to the Israeli/Palestinian Problem

The Israeli/Palestinian problem can be easily solved because the solution is very simple.

Unless Israel wants to become an internationally recognized Apartheid state shunned by the whole world, a just and equitable solution needs to be worked out. A solution that shelves the idea of two countries living side by side because the facts on the ground dictate otherwise. Israelis are living all over the territory that was earmarked for a Palestinian state. And since the Israelis don’t want to give up one inch of that territory, the only solution left is One Country.

But we have a twist.

It would be a federation of 5 states: Israel, West Bank, Gaza, Galilee and Negev with Jerusalem as the country’s Capital and Palestine as its name – a name that’s been around since the time of Christ if not as far back as the time of the Philistines. The Golan Heights would be returned to Syria in exchange for a comprehensive peace with not only Syria but Lebanon.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel will not go along with that. They want one country and for it to be the Jewish state. All others not welcome.

YOU WANT A CEASEFIRE? ~~ HERE’S WHAT WE WANT

It’s all about justice for Gaza

*

We call for a ceasefire only when negotiated conditions result in the following:

Freedom of movement of Palestinians in and out of the Gaza Strip.
Unlimited import and export of supplies and goods, including by land, sea and air.
Unrestricted use of the Gaza seaport.
Monitoring and enforcement of these agreements by a body appointed by the United Nations, with appropriate security measures.

Each of these expectations is taken for granted by most countries, and it is time for the Palestinians of Gaza to be accorded the human rights they deserve.

All of this seems reasonable, and indeed these are rights we take for granted in our own nations.

IDENTIFYING WITH THE CHILD VICTIMS OF GAZA

There is a brand of Judaism that declares, “It happened to us, so it shouldn’t happen to us again.” This is what I see too much of right now. Yet I’m not giving up on the idea that suffering can create fair-mindedness and justice. My version of Judaism — shared by more and more Jews — goes like this: “it happened to us, so it should never happen to anyone, ever. Especially not at our hands.”

To everyone who is reading this article and saying, “Yes, but… Hamas,” I would ask you to just stop with the “buts.” Take a single moment and allow yourself to feel this tremendous loss. Lay down your arms and grieve for the children of Gaza, who only yearned to run around outside and be free. It will hurt tremendously, but it might free you, too.

Germany demands answers from Israel over family death

Germany has asked Israel for clarification on the deaths of seven members of a German-Palestinian family who died in an Israeli air strike in Gaza on Monday.

Foreign Ministry Deputy Spokesperson Sawsan Chebli told a press conference Wednesday that it is in the country's "urgent interest that all facts are clarified."

He said that the ministry had talked with Israel's representatives, but declined to discuss content of the discussions.

"Everything should be done to avoid civilian casualties,” Chebli stressed.

Israel has told Gazans to seek safe shelter, but many say there is no such thing

Ordinary people in the Gaza Strip have been told by Israel they are being used as human shields by Hamas. Leaflets dropped from the sky and phone calls have warned them to flee the fighting immediately.

But many Gazans want to know: Flee where?

In the past two days, Israeli airstrikes and artillery fire have struck an evacuation shelter, cemeteries, a school, mosques and al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, where four people were killed. The border crossings to Egypt and Israel are closed to Palestinians.

‘Palestinians are Warsaw Ghetto prisoners of today’

In January 1943, the Jews of the Warsaw Ghetto mounted one of the most heroic and courageous acts of resistance human history has ever seen.

In the face of overwhelming odds, against an advanced and brutal military power, they rose up with nothing more than small arms and an unquenchable human spirit burning in their hearts, choosing to die on their feet rather than go quietly to their doom.

They perished and thereby wrote a chapter in human history that has ensured they will forever remain immortal, rightly revered as an example of that which is most noble and good about the human condition.

Conversely, those responsible for leveling the ghetto by aerial bombardment, tanks, and fire wrote their own chapter – that of a brutal oppressor driven by racism and inhumanity to slaughter men, women, and children in the name of a poisonous ideology which justifies cruelty in service to a distorted worldview of racial purity and supremacy as the cornerstone of human progress.

This Palestinian Journalist Was Killed in an Ambulance on Sunday

Khaled Hamad, a 25-year-old Palestinian journalist and videographer, died Sunday inside an ambulance that was struck by an Israeli rocket as he documented the difficult and increasingly life-threatening work of paramedics in the Gaza Strip.

On Twitter, photos of Hamad’s corpse, wrapped in a white, blood-soaked sheet and still bearing a body armor vest with the word PRESS painted across it, are being shared by journalists and activists alike. One image shows Hamad’s father kneeling at his dead son’s feet, weeping.

Hamad’s boss at Continue TV, Alaa Alool, confirmed the journalist’s death Monday afternoon to the Committee to Protect Journalists. VICE reached him on Tuesday.

“Khaled was a wonderful person,” Alool told us. “It is very difficult to find someone with his tenderness, goodness and generosity.”

Hamad left behind a wife, a woman named Hala who is six-months pregnant with the couple’s first child.

Hamas Sieges Israel

On July 22, 2014 the USA and Europe stopped their flights to Israel. Following the Siege of Gaza and the destruction of the Yasser Arafat International Airport in Gaza by Israel, Hamas conceptually inverted the situation, closing the main access point to the Zionist dream.

In December 2001, during the Second Intifada, Israel bombed the radar in the Yasser Arafat International Airport, popularly known as Dahaniya. In the following month, the runway was destroyed by IDF bulldozers.

This was the first stage in the Siege of Gaza, which was enlarged to a sea blockade. The transfer of goods and people through the border crosses with Israel and Egypt is highly restricted.

CNN Poll: Majority of Americans side with Israel in Gaza fighting

Washington (CNN) – A majority of Americans say Israel’s military actions in
Gaza are justified, with only four in 10 saying that Israel has used too
much force, according to a new national poll.

But a CNN/ORC International survey conducted Friday through Sunday also
indicates that favorable opinions of Israel have edged down since earlier
this year.

Webmaster's Commentary:

BEX ALERT - For second time, rockets found at UN school in Gaza

For the second time in less than a week, rockets have been found in a school in Gaza operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, the body said.

“Today, in the course of the regular inspection of its premises, UNRWA discovered rockets hidden in a vacant school in the Gaza Strip,” the organization said in a statement issued Tuesday. “As soon as the rockets were discovered, UNRWA staff were withdrawn from the premises, and so we are unable to confirm the precise number of rockets. The school is situated between two other UNRWA schools that currently each accommodate 1,500 internally displaced persons.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel came under criticism for bombing a UN school in which Gazans had fled in response to leaflets dropped by Israel warning that their homes were about to be bombed. Israel responded to the criticism by claiming that HAMAS hides rockets in the UN schools, which drew global skepticism. So magically, just when Israel needs it, some rockets are found, not in the schools filled with refugees Israel has been bombing, but an abandoned school nearby!

Keep in mind that the rockets HAMAS uses are hand-made and cannot be traced to a particular source, and there are known agents provocateurs in Gaza who make and fire rockets into empty lots in Israel to allow Israel to carry out more attacks. This "discovery" is just too cute to be believed.

Telegenically Dead: Israel’s Crumbling Media War

Israeli propaganda has hit a new low. While the world was still trying to come to terms with the mass deaths in Shuja’iyeh, Benjamin Netanyahu went on CNN to state that Hamas uses the “telegenically dead” to further “their cause.” He added that for Hamas: “The more the dead, the better.” Even while Netanyahu followed the propaganda script, which is to first show sympathy and express remorse, by reducing dead Palestinians to a photo-op he showed how his own mind works.

There is a standard script for how to deal with Palestinian casualties. After Israel killed four boys on the Gaza beach on July 16th, the US establishment media fell in line behind Israel’s PR framework: acknowledge the tragedy but blame Hamas. This is exactly what Israeli spokesperson Mark Regev said on Channel 4 News when grilled by the anchor Jon Snow. It is also how the US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki responded using the same word-for-word talking points.

UN Security Council considers Gaza ceasefire resolution

Jordan circulated to the U.N. Security Council on Tuesday a draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Hamas-dominated coastal enclave.

It welcomes an Egyptian-led bid to end fighting between Israel and Hamas militants and "condemns all violence and hostilities directed against civilians and all acts of terrorism," according to a draft obtained by Reuters.

A similar resolution was adopted by the 15-member Security Council in 2009, with 14 votes in favor. The United States, a close ally of Israel, abstained because Washington first wanted to see the outcome of Egyptian mediation efforts at the time.

Israel’s Iron Dome Isn’t Working: A Weapons Expert’s Warning

Hamas warheads aren’t easy to blow up in midair. The explosive used—TNT—is fairly inert and encased in a thick steel tube. The Tamir interceptors are supposed to blow up when they get close to the rockets and shred them with small steel rods. But the rods spray in all directions, so most don’t even touch the rocket. Many of those that hit may deflect off. The rods don’t have much chance if the timing or direction of the interceptor is even slightly off, according to Lloyd’s calculations.

If Iron Dome isn’t effective, then why have so few Israelis died from rocket fire? Both Lloyd and Postol attribute that mainly to the low firepower of the rockets and to Israel’s excellent early-warning system and network of shelters.

As the death toll in Gaza continues to rise, we hope you are continuing to contact your Congress people and Senators, asking them to demand that Israel stop its slaughter in Gaza.

1) That the violence in the region began BEFORE three Israelis were abducted on killed on June 12, and

2) That Israel has been killing a shockingly disproportionate number of civilians with its bombs in comparison to Hamas' rockets, both in the current assault and over the last decade.

U.S. flight ban could be Hamas' biggest success in latest clash with Israel

The Federal Aviation Administration on Tuesday barred U.S. airliners from traveling to and from Israel for at least 24 hours, in the wake of now-confirmed reports saying a rocket landed near Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport, the country's only international airport.

Several airlines already had suspended operations or diverted flights.

The ban comes less than a week after a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 was shot down over Ukraine. For Hamas, it could be the biggest break the Islamist group has had since the most recent fighting started -- potentially increasing Israeli's physical and psychological isolation from the rest of the world. The airport handles about 14 million travelers a year.

600 deaths in Israeli Gaza op: Military hits mosques, stadium, homes, hospital

Israel kept up attacks on Gaza on Tuesday, killing three Palestinians and hitting over 70 targets, including five mosques, a sports stadium and the home of the deceased Hamas military chief.

The latest casualties in the fortnight-long violence have brought the Palestinian death toll to 570, according to AP. Almost 100 of them are children and many others are civilians.

A United Nations school which is helping to shelter displaced Palestinians in the center of Gaza also came under attack from Israeli fire as a team was inspecting damage from the day before, a UN official said.

The official mentioned that a team, who had been given permission by Israel to enter, were at the school, which is run by the UN in Al-Maghazi, when Israeli tanks resumed their shelling and hit the building.

Ron Paul Rewind: Israel Encouraged Growth of Hamas

Webmaster's Commentary:

Ron Paul is, as usual, correct.

Israel loves to play this little game of "who do we talk to" to avoid peace talks. When Yasser Arafat united Palestine under the PLO, Israel's Shin Bet created and funded HAMAS as "controlled opposition, so that Israel could say, "We don't know who to have peace talks with, PLO or HAMAS." Then Yasser Arafat was assassinated and PLO collapsed, and HAMAS found itself the de facto Palestinian government, and following their election win in 2006, the legitimate one. So they started to act like a government, trying to take care of the Palestinians. So Israel set up FATAH as controlled opposition, so they could again play the game of "who do we talk to" and say "We don't know who to have peace talks with, HAMAS or FATAH." That is why when HAMAS and FATAH formed a unity government, Netanyahu went ballistic, because he could not avoid peace talks any longer. And because Netanyahu does not want peace with Palestine, he wants Palestine itself, he launched a war on Gaza.

Israel using US-supplied CW against Gazans: Analyst

A political commentator says Israel is using US-supplied chemical weapons to target Palestinians in Gaza amid the regime’s deadly offensive against the blockaded territory, Press TV reports.

In an interview with Press TV on Sunday, Gordon Duff, a senior editor at Veterans Today, said Washington’s supplying of chemical weapons to the Tel Aviv regime “is one of the shames of the American relationship with Israel.”

The analyst added that the US has given “an infinite number of chemical weapons” to Israel, stressing that the regime has “burnt many Palestinian children” using US-supplied “white phosphorous bombs.”

Israel sees Gaza as their own territory, so what we have here is Netanyahu using banned chemical weapons against his own people , the very crime the United States Government accused Syria's Assad of as justification to remove him from power.

BEX ALERT - Two American soldiers die in Israel-Gaza conflict

Among the 20 Israelis who have died in the conflict, Max Steinberg and Sean Carmeli were two Americans fighting in the Israeli army.

Webmaster's Commentary:

CBS News is wagging two Americans serving in the Israeli army who have died in the invasion of Gaza to try to drag Americans' sympathies back towards Israel's side. But by doing so, CBS has reaffirmed the public perception of pro-Israel bias in that the hundreds of dead Gazans, many of them children, remain nameless and faceless in CBS' coverage.

Let's review the timetable.

Last month, three Israeli teenagers were kidnapped and killed in an IDF-controlled region of the West Bank, not Gaza. ISIS has taken credit and even the Israeli media admits that the two suspects named by the Israeli government are not part of HAMAS, but of a group known for disobeying HAMAS and trying to cause trouble for them.

But Netanyahu declares HAMAS, the legally elected government of Gaza, responsible and launches bombing raids into Gaza using the very latest high-tech weapons provided by the US Government and paid for by the US taxpayers.

To put Israel's actions into perspective, let us recall that over the July 4th weekend, 8 people were killed in Chicago. Using Netanyahu's logic, the Democratic party should be blamed and all of Illinois bombed and invaded!

The Palestinians, who have been attacked without provocation, fight back with their home-made rockets, which so far have not killed anyone or done more damage than knock a few roof tiles loose.

But to Israel's supporters, we should all forget that Israel attacked Gaza without a valid reason, and view Palestine's attempts to defend themselves as the crime, so that Israel can go on pounding the Palestinians with their superior weapons.

I want to point something out. The Israelis sit in their tanks, or the drone operations centers, or fly high above Gaza in their US-supplied warplanes, dropping the latest in US-supplied high tech lethal munitions, and imagine themselves the heroes they read about in the Torah. The Palestinians huddle in their giant open-air prison, without an army, a navy, or an air force, and fight back with home-made rockets made out of plumbing supplies.

Not since Thermopylae has the world seen such courage in the face of overwhelming odds. The Palestinians have balls the US and Israel can only dream of, and the world will remember their courage against the tyrants, and the lies by the corporate media's presstitutes and whorespondents trying to protect Israel's aggression!

MSNBC contributor Rula Jebreal took issue with the network's coverage of the conflict in the Middle East on Monday.

Speaking on Ronan Farrow's show, she accused MSNBC of covering the Israeli perspective far more than the Palestinian side.

“We are disgustingly biased when it comes to this issue," said Jebreal, an Italian-Palestinian journalist with dual Italian and Israeli citizenship. "Look how [much] air time Netanyahu and his folks have on air on a daily basis — Andrea Mitchell and others. I never see one Palestinian being interviewed on these same issues —"

“I’m going to push back a little on that," Farrow interjected. "We’ve had Palestinian voices on our air.”

“Maybe for 30 seconds, and then you have twenty-five minutes for Bibi Netanyahu, and half an hour for Naftali Bennett," Jebreal countered, referring to Israel's prime minister and minister of the economy, respectively.

Zionist Israel an International Pariah

Gaza has become a slaughter zone for the eradication of Palestinians with the most advanced military technology that Israel posses. In comparison the blaming of Hamas for this latest barrage of rockets, fails to recognize any proposition in the mutual savagery. Depending on one’s view just who is the unlawful belligerent, sympathy and condemnation follows. This eternal struggle will never end peacefully. Debating international law, dissecting historic claims, strategizing military options, analyzing diplomatic intentions, and especially honoring superior doctrine among conflicting religious beliefs is a formula that offers no solutions. Yet, Israel is wedded to an expansionist political objective. Extending settlements prevent any permanent settlement agreement.

SEEGER FEST FOR PEACE

Pete Seeger, who died in January, was a modern-day troubadour for social justice who was on the frontline of every key progressive crusade in his lifetime. Peter Dreier pays tribute to a great artist and human being.

‘TO everything, there is a season,’ Pete Seeger’s song, ‘Turn, Turn, Turn’, taken from the Book of Ecclesiastes, tells us. ‘A time to be born, a time to die.’

Seeger died on 27 January at 94. In the spirit of that song, he spent his time on earth planting, healing, laughing, building, dancing, loving, embracing and advocating peace.

Urge the U.S. Government to stop arming Israel

This summer, civilians have borne the brunt of the violence in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Much of this has been carried out with foreign supplied arms.

Amnesty International is calling for a UN-imposed comprehensive arms embargo on Israel, Hamas and Palestinian armed groups. It is time for a UN-mandated international investigation into violations committed on all sides amidst Israel’s invasion of Gaza and indiscriminate rocket fire from Palestinian armed groups into Israel.

The U.S. government needs to do its part and stop giving munitions, weapons, crowd control devices, and military training to Israel.

Sunday, 20 July 2014 12:41Norwegian labor parties supported a call by a member of parliament to boycott Israeli products against the backdrop of the deadly Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip, Anadolu agency reported Sunday.

Labor Party MP and chairwoman of the defence and foreign affairs committee in the Norwegian parliament, Anniken Huitfeldt, has earlier called for boycotting Israeli products which Israel manufactures on occupied territories.

Huitfeldt demanded the government to implement the boycott as soon as possible "without wasting time." Six other parties endorsed Huitfeldt's call.

Why I Object to Israel’s Military Campaign

Even today, when rockets are exploding above the city I love most in the world, even when we rush into our apartment building’s stairwell and march downstairs along with the neighbors to the bicycle room that has been turned into a makeshift bomb shelter. Even now, I oppose this military operation wholeheartedly. The sight of the Israeli air force’s attack helicopters crossing the sky, going south along the Tel Aviv coastline does not fill me with pride or gratitude—it horrifies and depresses me.

Gaza: "Resistance is Strong and Will Continue"

It is clear that most targets of the Israeli attacks are civilian. A few of far too many example: the Kaware family lost seven members when the air force attacked their home in Khan Younis - can you imagine a mother and three of her children being killed together? The family of Hafez Hamad in Beit Hanoun lost six family members in the same attack, and a similar tragedy happened to the Dar el Samman family in the Jabalya refugee camp. It is a real massacre. Any and all homes in all areas of the Gaza Strip are under threat. The skies over Gaza are swarming with air force planes and drones; many people spend most of their time outside the home, waiting to see what will occur.

No more US support for Israel

They no longer hold the moral high ground, if ever they did. The massacre in Shejaiya is an obscenity.

Two small bodies lie on the metal table inside the morgue at Gaza’s Shifa hospital. Omama is nine years old. Her right forearm is mangled and charred and the top half of her skull has been smashed in. Beside her lies her seven year-old brother. His name is not certain. It might be Hamza or it might be Khalil. Relatives are having trouble identifying him because his head has been shorn off. Their parents will not mourn them—because they are dead too.

All of them were killed in Shejaiya, one of Gaza’s poorest and most crowded neighborhoods, which came under a brutal and sustained assault by the Israeli military today.

90 dead. The Israeli military was firing artillery shells into a residential neighborhood. It’s unconscionable, indiscriminate murder.

FLASHBACK - The Plan - Apartheid Wall

By now you must have seen the size of this gader hafradeh ("separation fence"). According to Nigel Parry on The Electronic Intifada: "Israel's Separation Barrier, dubbed the "Apartheid Wall" or "Berlin Wall" by Palestinians, has increasingly attracted international media attention, largely due to the hard-to-ignore scale of the project. The most obvious historical parallel to the barrier is the Berlin Wall, which was 96 miles long (155 kilometers). Israel's barrier, still under construction, is expected to reach at least 403 miles in length (650 kilometers). The average height of the Berlin Wall was 11.8 feet (3.6 metres), compared with the maximum* current height of Israel's Wall -- 25 feet (8 metres)." - See more at: http://batr.org/gulag/080603.html#sthash.lECcWHKE.dpuf

The End of Israel

Five days ago, Israel, at least in the eyes of its supporters, held the upper ground. It saw it citizens subject to an endless barrage of rockets, yet it showed relative restraint, killing Palestinian civilians only from afar, which served to convey an imaginary image of strength. But that has changed rapidly since Israel launched its ground operation. Israel is now, once again, involved in colossal war crimes against a civilian population and worse, at least strategically, its elite infantry commandos are being eradicated in a face-to-face street battle in Gaza. In spite of clear Israeli technological superiority and firepower, the Palestinian militants are winning the battle on the ground and they have even managed to move the battle to Israeli territory. In addition, the barrage of rockets on Tel Aviv doesn’t seem to stop.

Dozens of Palestinian civilians, including several children, were killed in fresh attacks on Gaza in the early hours of Sunday morning as the Israeli Defense Forces continue to expand their ground operation.

Indiscriminate bloodshed continues in Gaza as 20 more Palestinians are killed in Israeli shelling as hospitals overflow with women and children

At least 20 people have been killed in a dawn strike in Gaza - including the son, daughter-in-law and two small grandchildren of a senior Hamas leader.

Gaza City's Shijaiyah neighbourhood has come under heavy tank fire as Israel widened its ground offensive against Hamas, causing hundreds of residents to flee.

The dead and wounded have rep[reportedly been left in streets, with ambulances unable to approach.

Early this morning, the wounded from Shijaiyah were rushed to Gaza City's central Shifa Hospital. Frantic parents carried children wounded by shrapnel and the emergency room quickly overflowed, forcing doctors to treat some patients on mattresses in a hallway.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Let's review the timetable.

Last month, three Israeli teenagers were kidnapped and killed in an IDF-controlled region of the West Bank, not Gaza. ISIS has taken credit and even the Israeli media admits that the two suspects named by the Israeli government are not part of HAMAS, but of a group known for disobeying HAMAS and trying to cause trouble for them.

But Netanyahu declares HAMAS responsible and launches bombing raids into Gaza using the very latest high-tech weapons provided by the US Government and paid for by the US taxpayers.

Dozens killed in Palestinian town; Netanyahu calls for demilitarizing Gaza

Hundreds of Palestinians fled in panic into Gaza City on Sunday as Israeli troops focused their firepower on the nearby town of Shaja'ia. The shelling and bombing killed at least 60 people and wounded 300, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

In previous days, Israel warned residents to flee, through calls, text messages and dropping fliers that said "it is the intention of the IDF to carry out aerial strikes against terror sites and operatives" in the area. The fliers told people to head to Gaza City by Wednesday morning and not to return until further notice. The IDF posted an English translation of the fliers Sunday on Twitter.

Some residents said they had received the warnings but felt that even if they fled, they could face the same dangers in other parts of Gaza.

Israel using flechette shells in Gaza

B'Tselem, an Israeli human rights organisation, describes a flechette shell as "an anti-personnel weapon that is generally fired from a tank. The shell explodes in the air and releases thousands of metal darts 37.5mm in length, which disperse in a conical arch 300 metres long and about 90 metres wide".

The munitions are not prohibited under international humanitarian law, but according to B'Tselem, "other rules of humanitarian law render their use in the Gaza Strip illegal. One of the most fundamental principles is the obligation to distinguish between those who are involved and those who are not involved in the fighting, and to avoid to the extent possible injury to those who are not involved. Deriving from this principle is the prohibition of the use of an imprecise weapon which is likely to result in civilian injuries."

As I write, the Israelis have slaughtered 160 Palestinians in their latest mad-dog military adventure, the vast majority being civilians including 35 children. 934 others have been wounded, including 280 children.

And still the mighty international community shuffles and mumbles.

Gaza death toll reaches 316 as Israel continues attacks

Israel is pressing ahead with its relentless aerial and ground assaults on the besieged Gaza Strip, pushing the death toll to 316 in just 12 days.

The Palestinian Health Ministry says more than 70 of the victims have been children.

Israeli warplanes pounded a number of positions in Gaza during the early hours of Saturday. The fresh airstrikes killed more than 20 people.

More than 2,200 others have been injured since the offensive began on July 8.

Palestinian officials say as many as 65 people lost their lives since Israeli tanks began shelling the impoverished enclave on Thursday, when the Tel Aviv regime launched its ground operation in the besieged Palestinian territory.

Epic fail: Israel's ambassador to US lambasted on Twitter during #AskDermer Q&A

Israel’s Ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer received fierce backlash on Thursday as he defended his country’s Operation Protective Edge offensive on Gaza during a Twitter Q&A.

According to the latest Pew Research polling on the ongoing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, Americans still heavily lean toward sympathizing with Israel. Yet Dermer urged those who oppose Israel's military actions to ask him any questions so he could clarify his government's position. So they did, but the result was probably not the one that Dermer expected.

Tell NBC News: Let Ayman Mohyeldin Report from Gaza

Yesterday Israel escalated its attacks on Gaza by launching a ground invasion. Ten days into this latest assault, Israel has killed at least 250 Palestinians and caused much destruction, including destroying el-Wafa rehabilitation hospital.

Hours before the invasion started, the news broke that NBC News had ordered their veteran correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin to leave Gaza after he witnessed and reported on Israel's killing of Palestinian children Mohammed, Ahed, Zakaria, and Mohammed Bakr while they were playing soccer on the beach and the heart-wrenching reactions of the families.

While NBC claims the reason he is being pulled is due to security concerns, the network has sent in another correspondent to replace him.

CONDEMNATION OF ISRAEL IS NOT ENOUGH

A country that fails to abide by international law, that refuses to withdraw from Arab lands it has occupied since 1967, that practices racism against its Palestinian citizens, that refuses to allow Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and lands, is a country that should be expelled from the community of nations. International solidarity with Gaza and the Palestinians demands no less than the complete isolation of apartheid Israel.

THE SLAUGHTER OF CHILDREN IS BAD PUBLICITY FOR ZION

Since the beginning of Operation Protective Edge last week, journalists and commentators — Jon Stewart included (See below)— have criticized Israel for the lopsided death count in the conflict.

And an errant airstrike today next to a journalists’ hotel has led to a fresh wave of criticism against Israel. This afternoon, Israel shelled a Gaza beach, killing four children who were playing soccer there. A second shell hit as survivors were running for help.

The Israel Defense Forces spokesperson said the shells were aimed at a Hamas operative.

But because the shells hit outside a hotel housing journalists covering the conflict, pictures, video and first-person accounts have flooded the Internet, showing smoke, the dead children and a scene of chaos.

“The attack — and its heartrending aftermath –- was witnessed by NBC News,” wrote NBC reporters Ayman Mohyeldin and Paul Ziad Nassar. “Moments earlier, the boys were playing soccer with journalists on the beach.”

Gaza Live: Israel now plans "boots on the ground", says ground attack chances "very high"

In a clear indication that Israel is seriously considering ground strikes on Gaza, a senior Israeli military official told New York Times that chances of such a possibility was "very high", and that "if you want to efficiently fight terrorism you must be present, boots on the ground".

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel's perceived might rests on having the latest and (maybe not so) greatest weapons provided by the US Government and paid for by the US taxpayers. It is easy to sit in those drone-control rooms, or inside a tank, or in an F-16 high in the sky dropping bombs and rockets onto a giant open-air prison camp and imagine oneself the heroes you read about in the Torah.

Going into Gaza will be another story and here again the story of Thermopylae comes into play, for just as the narrow gap held by Leonida took away the advantage of Xerxes' larger force and superior weapons, the tight confines of the world's most densely-packed population center will negate the high-tech whiz-bang of Israel's weapons, leaving the battles to be decided by the soldiers themselves.

Israel's soldiers, too-long dependent on their technological edge, are not an effective fighting force. They have not won a battle against an equal force since 1985. They failed to reach the Litani River in their last invasion of Lebanon and only a few days ago, Israeli commandos, supposedly their best, were clubbed like baby seals on a beach on Gaza and driven back into the sea.

I expect that HAMAS prefers to get the battle out of the skies where Israel has the clear advantage and onto the streets and alleys of Gaza where the fight will be more equal.

Three others who were injured made it to the hotel: Hamad Bakr, aged 13, with shrapnel in his chest; his cousin Motasem, 11, injured in his head and legs, and Mohammad Abu Watfah, 21, who was hit by shrapnel in his stomach.

Militants in Gaza fire rocket at Israel as humanitarian cease-fire window expires

Palestinian militants in Gaza fired a rocket at Israel Thursday just as a five-hour U.N. humanitarian cease-fire expired, the Israeli military said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

FOX News is trying to claim that HAMAS fired the rockets just BEFORE the cease fire ended. They have Charles Krauthammer on right now putting the blame for the whole mess on HAMAS.

"Saddam has nuclear weapons."

"Assad is gassing his own people."

"Putin is to blame for Ukraine."

"Gaza is all HAMAS' fault."

Israel Failed to Provide Connection between Targets and Military Activity – Report

Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem has issued an information sheet stating that the interpretation presented by the Israeli forces spokesperson — that it is enough for a person to be involved in a military activity to render his home and his neighbors’ homes legitimate military targets without having to prove any connection between his activity and the house in which he and his family live — is unfounded and illegal.

The organization added, according to WAFA Palestinian News & Info Agency’s recent report:

“It is not a coincidence that the number of uninvolved civilians killed or injured by these bombings is growing. The law is meant to protect civilians and, unsurprisingly, violating it has lethal consequences. Euphemisms such as ‘surgical strikes’ or ‘operational infrastructure’ cannot hide the facts: illegal attacks of homes, which constitute punitive home demolition from the air, come at a dreadful cost in human life.”

Gaza National DemonstrationStop the Killing • Stop the Bombing19 July 2014 • Assemble 12 NoonDowning Street London • March to Israeli Embassy

1400 Israeli air strikes, over 1000 rockets fired, and Israel says there is much more to come. Over 200 Palestinians have been killed, 77% of them civilians, a quarter ot them children. 1500 have been injured, 800 homes destroyed. Israeli prime minister Netanyahu says, "No international pressure will prevent us from striking."

Israel's barbaric bombardment of the most densely populated area on earth must stop now. Barack Obama, David Cameron and UK foreign secretary William Hague's support for "Israel's right to defend itself" is nothing less than collusion with war crimes killing women, children and disabled people.

Join this demonstration. Publicise it as widely as you can among your family, friends, in your workplace, college, local community etc. Israel's crimes against humanity must stop now.
