Netanyahu slams Swedish FM remarks as ‘stupid’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decried latest remarks by Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom, who has called for a probe into the Tel Aviv regime's "extrajudicial executions" of Palestinians.

"I think what the Swedish foreign minister said is outrageous,... it's immoral and it's stupid," Netanyahu, who also functions as foreign minister, said on Thursday.

Filimonov: U.S Weakens EU to Keep "Castle on the Hill"

2015 has been difficult for Brussels, which already has been under pressure for a long time from the Eurozone debt crisis. Firstly, the front page of global newspapers was limited to a discussion of the problems of Greece, Spain, Portugal and Italy. Critically minded press even began to insult these countries, calling them PIGS – Portugal (P), Italy (I) Greece (G) Spain (S). Then they added Ireland and Britain to the list, trying to hurt the idea of European integration. The American footprint in this story was deliberately taken out of context: experts overnight forgot that the debt crisis was the result of the global financial tsunami of 2008, running from the East coast of the USA. The EU is trying to emerge from it, forcing Greece to implement tough anti-social reforms in return for financial assistance. By truth or lies, in summer 2015, the subject of debt gradually descended to "no". And then a new drama started - migrants...

Finland urges common ground with Russia on refugees issue

"Risks will be big if we fail to find common ground," the minister told the Savon Sanomat newspaper. Finland’s authorities earlier said Russia allows refugees to go to Finland without Schengen visas. "In future, it should be so that leaving for Finland without the necessary documents is prohibited," Orpo said... By the end of 2016, up to 7,500 refugees could come to Finland through the border with Russia, according to the Finnish border guard service. Last year, some 32,500 refugees, mostly from Iraq, came to Finland, the country’s migration authorities said. In 2014, the number of asylum seekers reached just 4,000.

But when it comes to protecting Israel’s illegal settlements on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank, dozens of US lawmakers have shown no such compunction in doing so vociferously.

Taharrush: Asylum Seekers Play the “Rape Game” Across Europe

If you were concerned about all of the sexual assaults by immigrants in Europe recently, worry no more. It’s just a game. The rape game. That shocking spree of sexual assaults on European women, perpetrated mainly by refugees and asylum seekers, is all in the name of fun (and, you know, superiority and ethnic cleansing).

Most of the attacks that have been reported in the international news have been gang rapes, with 5 or more attackers.

The attacks have been shocking by the sheer numbers involved. The foremost repercussion has been division, not only in the communities where the assaults occurred but in places where they are discussed. Those who are overly cautious about political correctness are uncomfortable with a discussion about the culprits, who have been overwhelmingly Muslim immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers from places like Syria, Afghanistan, Turkey, and Morocco.

Polish Weekly Depicts Merkel in Hitler Pose, EU Politicians as Her Generals

In the latest episode of the Polish-EU war of words, a popular Polish tabloid has depicted Angela Merkel and other top-level EU politicians as Nazis, and another magazine likened Merkel and the chief of the EU parliament with 18-century occupants of Poland. A picture featured Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, accompanied by his generals and Mussolini. A poorly-photoshopped Polish 2016 version, by the Poznan-based tabloid Wprost, has the German Chancellor Angela Merkel with the Fuhrer in the company of Martin Schulz, the EU Parliament head, Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, EU commissioner Guenther Oettinger and Guy Verhofstadt, a prominent European MP.

European Union pays USA for the possibility to exist

Putin said in a recent documentary that the European Union had no independent foreign policy. This is very true. The European Union actually pays the United States for the possibility to exist as well as for the possibility to work together... When the EU was formed, it was up to the USA to make decisions on all issues of the foreign policy of the union. One can now see with the naked eye that the position of separate EU members could have been much more independent, just like the position of the European Union in general. Italy, for example, wants to lift sanctions against Russia. Other countries may share a similar approach, but when they come to the European Union they change their point of view completely. The announcement of sanctions against Russia from Montenegro was quite a surprise. These are the rules of the game for EU members. We have not lived up to the moment when the Americans would be ready to refuse from this idea..

This formulation, said the Minister of Justice, "is the worst way to associate Poles". "For me, too. I am the grandson of a Polish officer who, during second world war fought in [Poland’s] underground Home Army against "German supervision", — quotes RIA Novosti from the words of Ziobro. Poland Breaks Away From German Dominance Over 'Middle Europe' — And Threatens Merkel's Legacy

Polish criticism of the open borders policy championed by Angela Merkel has been stinging. A couple of objective reasons support this Polish vehemence on the refugees. First, from the standpoint of its population, Poland is already overrun by refugees and economic immigrants from Ukraine. Official statistics put their number at about 400,000 in May 2015; word of mouth estimates they number more than a million today. They are without question putting pressure on the local job market at a time when there has still been a net outflow of ethnic Poles abroad looking for better paying work. Secondly, admitting Muslims runs directly against the new government’s stress on protecting and nurturing traditional Catholic religious values... Both founders of the Law and Justice Party, Jaroslaw and his brother Lech, the Polish president who died in a plane crash outside Smolensk in 2010, were known for bitter feelings towards Germany, and relations with Berlin were fraught.

EU Parliament Head Accuses Poland of ‘Putinization’, What Does He Mean?

The comments come in relation to the constitutional crisis in the country, its worst since 1989, the year of the first elections in its post-war history. The Polish Constitutional crisis of 2015 is a series of conflicts following the Polish parliamentary election of October 2015 regarding amendments to the organization of the Polish Constitutional Court. The amendments caused domestic and international criticism. Earlier in December Poland had demanded an apology from Schulz after he called its judicial changes a ‘coup’. "What is happening in Poland has the characteristics of a coup and is dramatic. I am going on the principle that we are going to discuss this in detail this week at the European parliament, or at the latest, during the session in January," he then told Deutschlandfunk radio. Schulz's comments sparked an angry response from Warsaw, with Polish Prime Minister Beata Szyd?o demanding an apology.

UK police ‘training Saudi forces’, despite rise in executions

A Freedom of Information response from the UK College of Policing has revealed that, since the body’s founding in 2012, some 270 officers have been brought from Saudi Arabia to the UK for “specialist training”, under a £2.7 million deal that also saw 26 British police officers deployed to Saudi Arabia to train police. The news comes amid serious concerns over a rise in executions and other human rights abuses by Saudi forces, including the use of torture to extract ‘confessions.’ Human rights organization Reprieve has established that in the past year, while the training was being provided, the number of people executed by the Saudi authorities rose sharply – from some 88 in 2014 to at least 158 last year. Last weekend, the Saudi authorities staged a mass execution of 47 prisoners, at least four of whom were convicted for their involvement in political protests.

Thousands Flood The Streets In Germany As Fury Over Refugee Sex Assaults Reaches Boiling Point

Over the last several days, more information has come to light with regard to the wave of sexual assaults that occurred across Europe on New Year’s Eve.

What some observers initially assumed was an set of isolated attacks in Cologne’s city center now appears to have been a bloc-wide phenomenon as women from Austria, to Switzerland, to Finland come forward to report being accosted by what some police say were gangs of drunken Mid-East asylum seekers.

“In Sweden, police said at least 15 young women reported being groped by groups of men on New Year's Eve in the city of Kalmar,” AP reports, adding that “in Finland, police said they received tip-offs on New Year's Eve that about 1,000 predominantly Iraqi asylum seekers were intending to gather near the main railway station in Helsinki and harass passing women.”

SANCTIONS? WHAT SANCTIONS? WE’RE BUILDING RAILROADS…

Remember all those economic sanctions that the USA demanded be imposed on Russia for its perfidy in the Ukraine for opposing Washington's installed puppet government in Kiev and for not allowing its Black Sea Fleet base at Sevastopol to fall into NATO's hands? At the time, I predicted that this was a short-sighted policy on Washington's part at best, since Europe's economic future lies in the expanded trade with the East, and with the integration into the Eurasian infrastructure projects that Russia and China have been championing. In particular, I pointed out that Europe's "locomotive," Germany, might politely mouth its obedience and perform the obligatory genuflexions to Washington, but the reality was - and is - that the economic and geopolitical future of the country, and therefore of Europe, lie eastward, not across the Atlantic ocean.

First threat designation since fall of Soviet Union

The document focuses on two major areas of concern. The first is NATO and the U.S., which are seen as pursuing “a policy of containment against Russia.”

The second area identified as a major security threat is “the practice of overthrowing legitimate political authorities,” an apparent reference to the “color revolutions” of Eastern Europe, such as the Orange Revolution in Ukraine and the Rose Revolution in Georgia. The document also references the 2010-2011 Arab Spring, which toppled several political strongmen, including Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak.

Brave New Europe: ‘Code of Conduct’ Suggested for German Women Attacked by 'Gangs of Arab Men'

The Mayor of Cologne said today that women should adopt a “code of conduct” to prevent future assault at a crisis meeting following the sexual attack of women by 1000 men on New Year’s eve. The suggested code of conduct includes maintaining an arm’s length distance from strangers, to stick within your own group, to ask bystanders for help or to intervene as a witness, or to inform the police if you are the victim of such an assault. Isn't this incredible? German citizens are now being told to "stick within their own group" in order to "prevent future assaults" by immigrants and migrants. Is this really a sustainable solution? What's next? German women shouldn't "provoke" attacks by wearing short skirts?

In Ukraine Europe Betrays Its Founding Myth

If it ever was true that EU rested on anti-Nazism after the war in Ukraine this may no longer be claimed... This tale – EU’s founding myth – may or may not be true, but it does show the values its supporters claim. And indeed, for a long while Europe was dominated by a political culture in which nothing was more de-legitimizing than anything that smacked even remotely of Nazism, racism and exaggerated nationalism. For decades now it has been the case that the consensus between Europeans has been that neo-Nazis – or anyone remotely like them - have no place in polite society regardless of any and all circumstances. That they must properly be shunned, as well as anyone who did not do so. After EU’s patronage of the neo-Nazi allied government in Kiev it is impossible to pretend that this is still the case. – In certain circumstances Nazis are now welcome allies of the European cause.

Taking advantage of the crisis in the opposing camp, the United States strengthened by the war their military presence and political influence in the strategic Gulf.

Britain And Italy To Occupy Libya . . . Again

By Brandon Turbeville

As time passes over the foreign policy of Western nations, the façade of promoting “freedom” and “democracy” passes with it. Even with well-established propaganda mechanisms in place to convince the Western public that NATO involvement in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) serves a noble purpose, there are breaks in the wall of nonsense that passes for official explanations and mainstream media reporting that document the NATO march of terror across the world that is currently underway.

In this case, the lie is that a direct Western presence in Libya is anything other than a return to open colonialism by the very powers who perpetrated it in years past on the very same territory...

Italy PM Confronts Merkel Over Pipeline Double Standards

The Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi is known for his pronouncements questioning the basis of EU foreign policy. At the most recent EU summit on Friday he “moved to the next level” in which, according to the newspaper Politico, the politician strongly criticized Chancellor Angela Merkel. It came to a battle of words between the two politicians because of, among other things, the construction of the Nord Stream pipeline. The Italian Prime Minister accused the Chancellor of political double standards...

America is being destroyed by problems that are unaddressed

One hundred years ago European civilization, as it had been known, was ending its life in the Great War, later renamed World War I. Millions of soldiers ordered by mindless generals into the hostile arms of barbed wire and machine gun fire had left the armies stalemated in trenches. A reasonable peace could have been reached, but US President Woodrow Wilson kept the carnage going by sending fresh American soldiers to try to turn the tide against Germany in favor of the English and French.

The fresh Amerian machine gun and barbed wire fodder weakened the German position, and an armistance was agreed. The Germans were promised no territorial losses and no reparations if they laid down their arms, which they did only to be betrayed at Versailles. The injustice and stupidity of the Versailles Treaty produced the German hyperinflation, the collapse of the Weimar Republic, and the rise of Hitler.

Europeans Finally Losing Patience With NATO’s Reckless Mess

Amid the mounting refugee crisis caused by “NATO’s non-stop campaign of overseas military misadventures”, Europeans are becoming “increasingly wary of multiculturalism, neo-liberal reforms, austerity measures - and now, it seems, even NATO itself,” according to American writer and journalist Robert Bridge.

The ECB - EUR22 Trillion Is Missing

Yesterday I published the assets/liabilities of the European Central Bank as provided by them. I provided some analysis that I thought was relevant as I also asked all of you to look at the numbers yourself. To be quite open; I was stunned by the data they provided and shocked by the implications. I had not seen the data in any other source or commented about by anyone and the subject, while admittedly complex, and perhaps made more complex by design, is a huge wake-up call for anyone investing in Europe.

Syria is the Middle Eastern Stalingrad

Day and night, for years, an overwhelming force has been battering this quiet nation, one of the cradles of human civilization.
Hundreds of thousands have died, and millions have been forced to flee abroad or have been internally displaced. In many cities and villages, not one house is left intact.

But Syria is, against all odds, still standing.

Home About Antiwar.com Donate Blog US Casualties Contact Latest NewsRussia Security Paper: NATO Expansion a Security Threat

The latest Russian National Security Strategy paper, newly revised because of the regime change in Ukraine two years ago, has been released and signed by President Vladimir Putin. Though Ukraine is obviously a big change, the focus as ever is on NATO.

The strategy paper sees NATO as taking “counter-action” against Russian attempts to maintain an independent domestic and foreign policy, and sees NATO’s continued eastward expansion as turning it into a growing “external threat” to the Russian Federation.

NATO’s recent expansion has centered around the Balkans, with Albania and Croatia both joining in 2009. Russia’s bigger concerns are efforts by former Soviet states Georgia and Ukraine to seek membership status, which would add greatly to the common border between Russia and NATO member nations.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Again, with all the troops and weapons being pre-positioned by NATO in Eastern European countries, coupled with all the military exercises which took place last year right on Russia's doorstep, can anyone in their right mind blame Russia for its concern here?!?

EU calls time on 'too big to fail' with bank bail-in laws

Senior bondholders and depositors over €100,000 will be in line to be "bailed-in" if a bank goes bust, a departure from the mass government-funded rescues seen in Ireland, Portugal, Spain and Greece in the wake of the financial crisis.

Brussels' tough new Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive (BRRD) will require creditors to incur losses of at least 8pc of their total liabilities before receiving official sector aid. Britain will not be subject to the rules.

Belgium, Canada, Denmark, & the Netherlands Join U.S. Forces to Fight ISIL In Iraq

Oddly, Russia is not listed anywhere as an ally in the fight against ISIL in 'Operation Inherent Resolve.'

European Parliament Uses "Double Standards" in Matters of Arms Exports

The European Parliament applies "double standards" by justifying any military exports to Kiev and at the same time condemning illicit arms trade by EU member states, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, Sputnik reported... This applies primarily to the "selective application of specific provisions" of the Common Position in the part concerning the admissibility of transfer of arms and military equipment to Ukraine, the spokeswoman said. "The European parliamentarians, in fact, justify any supplies of military products to Kiev," the spokeswoman said. Zakharova’s statement comes in response to the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on December 17. The EU parliamentarians noted with concern the increasingly frequent violations of the Common Position adopted on the issue in 2008 by individual EU member states.

An Open Letter to Young Muslims Everywhere: The Seed of Triumph in Every Adversity

The bottom line is that in 2016 the option will continue to be stark; it’s either the hegemony of the War Party – with the subtext of a Washington “willfully” condoned Salafi-jihadi “offer” to young, disaffected Muslims; or the vision of a full, prosperous trade/commerce/communication network for the whole of Eurasia. Ladies and gentlemen, place your bets.

Lavrov: Washington Is Opposed To The Establishment Of Europe's Own Military Forces

The Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an exclusive interview to the TV channel "Zvezda" said that Russia has no plans to send troops to the territory of countries who are members of NATO. "I'm sure everyone understands that no tanks or Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will enter the territory of NATO members, none of this is even being considered", – said Lavrov. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry commented on the attitude to Russia towards the Baltic States and Eastern Europe. According to him, the United States claimed that the Baltic and Eastern European countries will calm down only when they join the Alliance. However, Lavrov said, that did not happen. Lavrov said that new members of the Alliance began to use its membership for regular attacks on Russia. "Since becoming members of NATO, they behave quite differently: they use this membership to come on and attack us via their constant rhetoric.

Moldova will face social upheaval next year against the corrupt rule of pro-European parties, supported by the United States and EU, leader of the opposition Party of Socialists of Moldova Igor Dodon who controls the largest faction of 24 deputies in the 101 seat local parliament, told TASS in an interview on Wednesday. "Moldova next year will face social upheaval the responsibility for which rests not with the opposition, which for the third month in a row has been staging peaceful protests demanding early elections and the transition to nationwide elections of the president. The main reason for it is the catastrophic situation in the economy, which was the result of incompetent and corrupt rule of pro-European parties," said Dodon, who until 2009 was deputy prime minister in charge of the economy.

The US is most likely to enter into a military operation in the Middle East or the Balkans, according to a study of its most recent military activities which was published in the US magazine The National Interest.

Author Daniel Sukman created a graphic to display the US' combat and peacekeeping operations over the last 35 years, from which he deduced the next most likely targets.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A short memo to the Obama administration: you have a citizenry which is stretched to the limit, financially; is very war-weary, and war skeptical; and does not want more wars, thank you very much.

And we have "a modest proposal" for fighting whatever the next military misadventure you folks might conjure up. Henceforward, only the sons and daughters of owners of major corporations which contribute to your campaigns, and which find wars profitable, shall be the only ones fighting, getting maimed for life, and dying in these wars.

After all, that would be more than fair, wouldn't it?!?

A United Eurasia From Minsk to Manila

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev built upon President Putin's earlier suggestion and formally proposed a grand multilateral economic partnership during his trip to China.

Russia has historically been known for thinking big, so what the Prime Minister proposed is totally in line with the country's political culture. While in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou to partake in the SCO Council of Heads of Government, Medvedev ambitiously stated that:

"Russia proposes starting consultations with the Eurasian Economic Union and Shanghai Cooperation Organization, including the counties joining the alliance, and with countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations on the creation of an economic partnership based on the principles of equality and mutual interests."

This suggestion corresponds to what President Putin said during his 3 December Address to the Federal Assembly, when he announced that:

Happy New Year — Bail-In Passed for Europe’s Banks

The mainstream media is not extensively reporting on the “experimental” bail-in that the EU imposed on Cyrus. The bail-in, that they swore would never be applied to Europe, will officially begin in January. This new power will be in the interest of taxpayers as they will no longer be forced to pay for failed banks that were created by the childish structure of the euro that was created by lawyers who never understood the economy. But wait a minute — aren’t taxpayers the people with deposits in banks? Hm. Moving to electronic money is also about preventing bank runs. The bottom-line here is that they will just take your money to save bankers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It was ever thus!
