US, UK, and China battle over which bank gets to exploit Third World

US officials are currently in an uproar over the United Kingdom’s decision to become a founding member of the new Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. This is a decision that forecasts a massive change in the world economy. The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is setting itself up to be direct competition to the World Bank and IMF. These two little known institutions truly cement the West as the dominant powers in the world. The policies of the new bank will be in direct opposition to those of the World Bank.

NATO's Massive Show of Force in Latvia - What's the Endgame?

The end goal of the EU/NATO saber-rattling targeting Russia, he said, is to "reinforce the existing supranational institutions of the West – the European Union, on the one hand, and the transatlantic bond on the other." Russia as the enemy will give some meaning and legitimacy to the ongoing maintenance of the European Union and NATO. The EU leadership is firmly behind this project, he added, but it remains to be seen how much of the population supports such a gambit.

Europe Has A Modest Proposal For Greece; "Don't Pay Wages For One Or Two Months"

The Greek media is ablaze with just what Europe's proposed solution to this issue may be. As Protothema and Capital report, the Troika proposed that Athens halt the payment of salaries and pensions for one to two months. This, according to Europe, would promptly tackle the problem of liquidity and find a solution to Greek problem of how to pay back bailout loan tranches to creditors when suffering from liquidity problems.

Germany says Greece may face exit from eurozone

Germany’s finance minister says Greece may leave the 19-member eurozone if the administration in Athens fails to clinch a final agreement with its international creditors.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with German-language Austrian public broadcaster, ORF, on Friday, Wolfgang Schaeuble said the possibility of Greece’s departure from the European Union’s monetary bloc cannot be excluded.

“To the extent that Greece is solely responsible and decides what is to happen, and we don’t know exactly what Greek leaders are doing, we can’t exclude it,” he said in reference to an exit from the eurozone by the Greek government.

“Europe is ready to help Greece, but Greece must let itself be helped,” Schaeuble stated.

How Iran and the US intersect in “Syraq”

The self-described “Don’t Do Stupid Stuff” Obama administration, with its rambling foreign policy, is driving the real Masters of the Universe who control the current world system absolutely crazy.

A cliffhanger debate will take place this Wednesday at the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Picture Secretary of State John Kerry, new Pentagon supremo Ashton Carter, and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey all testifying in the same room.

European Central Bank ‘asphyxiating’ Greece - Varoufakis

Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis said the European Central Bank is holding cash-strapped Athens in a choke-hold in order to push through negotiations on the country’s bailout program.

The European Central Bank has essentially cut Greece off from short-term lending, which makes borrowing more expensive for the already heavily-indebted nation. If Athens doesn’t strike a deal with Brussels, they will lose emergency assistance funding from the ECB.

NATO’s Shadow of Nazi Operation Barbarossa

Russia can perceive, rightly, the continuum of aggression.

NATO’s Operation Atlantic Resolve paced ahead this week with the latest arrival of more US military forces in the Baltic region.

Under the guise of defending eastern Europe from «Russian aggression», more than 100 Abrams tanks and Bradley armoured personnel carriers rolled into Latvia. Last month, a similar motorised display of military support was deployed in Estonia – in the town of Narva – with American flags flown by the US Army’s Second Calvary Regiment just 300 metres from the Russian border.

NATO’s Shadow of Nazi Operation Barbarossa

For Russia, the menacing military encirclement of Operation Atlantic Resolve has profoundly bad resonance with the past, and for good reasoning. Operation Barbarossa – only 74 years ago – is seared into Russian consciousness through immense human suffering. Russia was then on the brink of extirpation and was only saved by the heroic sacrifice of millions of its people; any nation would never allow such a danger to ever come close again.

The Greek ambassador has 'officially' complained to "friend and ally" Germany about the personal insult. Nuland’s Mastery of Ukraine Propaganda

So, did Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland mislead Congress or just play a propaganda game, asks Robert Parry.

An early skill learned by Official Washington’s neoconservatives, when they were cutting their teeth inside the U.S. government in the 1980s, was how to frame their arguments in the most propagandistic way, so anyone who dared to disagree with any aspect of the presentation seemed unpatriotic or crazy.

During my years at The Associated Press and Newsweek, I dealt with a number of now prominent neocons who were just starting out and mastering these techniques at the knee of top CIA psychological warfare specialist Walter Raymond Jr., who had been transferred to President Ronald Reagan’s National Security Council staff where Raymond oversaw inter-agency task forces that pushed Reagan’s hard-line agenda in Central America and elsewhere.

Saving World Heritage – the West’s New R2P Pretext

The ideological arsenal of pretexts for US military interventions are depleted, redundant, spent or thoroughly disgraced.

Is the defence of world heritage sites in Iraq the new «responsibility to protect» (R2P) doctrine to justify Western intervention in the geo-strategically important region? The timing coincides with renewed admonitions from the United States and Saudi Arabia for a coalition of ground forces to defeat the Islamic State network in Iraq and Syria – and just when Iraqi and Syrian forces appear to be decisively pushing back the extremists in both countries.

The US and its Western allies have long used the doctrine of «responsibility to protect» or «R2P» as a flimsy pretext for military intervention. They found success with various tropes, including the «War on Terror», the elimination of «weapons of mass destruction», and the Responsibility to Protect» human rights.

EU to lift ban on importing chicken from the U.S. which has been washed in controversial acid disinfectant

The EU is set to lift a ban on imports of chicken from the United States which are washed with a suspect acid disinfectant.

American producers routinely wash raw chicken following slaughter with a substance called peroxyacetic acid (PAA) to remove harmful bacteria.

The practice has been banned in Britain and Europe for many years because of a determination to remove harmful bugs at source, rather than using disinfectants to clean up carcasses.

There are also concerns that reliance on these washes could put consumers at risk by playing a part in the creation of superbugs.

However, the European Commission has signalled that it plans to lift the ban following pressure from the American government and US chicken producers.

The Last, Great Run For The U.S. Dollar, The Death Of The Euro And 74 Trillion In Currency Derivatives At Risk

Are we on the verge of an unprecedented global currency crisis? On Tuesday, the euro briefly fell below $1.07 for the first time in almost a dozen years. And the U.S. dollar continues to surge against almost every other major global currency. The U.S. dollar index has now risen an astounding 23 percent in just the last eight months. That is the fastest pace that the U.S. dollar has risen since 1981. You might be tempted to think that a stronger U.S. dollar is good news, but it isn’t. A strong U.S. dollar hurts U.S. exports, thus harming our economy. In addition, a weak U.S. dollar has fueled tremendous expansion in emerging markets around the planet over the past decade or so. When the dollar becomes a lot stronger, it becomes much more difficult for those countries to borrow more money and repay old debts. In other words, the emerging market “boom” is about to become a bust...

The euro’s tumbling _ here’s why

The main reason is the European Central Bank has not only cut interest rates but also started creating more euros to put into the financial system.

The ECB had been reluctant to do so for years, but in 2014 it changed course. As policymakers faced the prospect of minimal growth and falling prices, which can further weigh on an economy, it cut its main interest rate in September to 0.05 percent. The move hit the euro by reducing the potential returns on investments in the eurozone.

As that proved insufficient to turn the eurozone around, the ECB has started buying government bonds in the markets with newly-created money.

Russian experts: common EU army idea unviable

The idea of creating a common European army cannot be implemented in the foreseeable future as the United States is not interested in this proposal while the EU budgets have their limits, experts polled by TASS said on Tuesday.
"A single European army, if it is created, will not pose a potential threat to Russia. This is just an attempt and not the first attempt by Europeans to give up the US military diktat" the defense analyst told TASS.
"The idea of creating a common European army doesn’t look realistic at the current stage over the unwillingness of EU countries to finance new projects. The United States has repeatedly turned to its allies with a demand to increase security expenditures as NATO members. It would be unaffordable even for the UK, which has an army of just 140,000 servicemen, to finance another military structure, military expert Alexander Golts told TASS.

Euro Nears Parity With U.S. Dollar

The euro is nearing parity with the U.S. dollar as the common currency sank to a 12-year low of €1.0735 versus the greenback on Tuesday. The euro’s fall is fueled by falling European bond yields, concerns about Greece, and the overall grim outlook for the global economy.

There is no fuss, no sense of urgency, just a matter-of-fact move lower for the single unit that is now backed by a quantitative easing (QE) program. The onset of large-scale European Central Bank (ECB) QE is also weighing heavily on the EUR. This is allowing the mighty USD to continue to rack up multiyear highs across a number of currency fronts; supported by stronger U.S. fundamental data (strong U.S. jobs and full employment) and some hawkish Federal Reserve talk.

The Origin of the ‘New Cold War’

To start with: the ‘new Cold War,’ against Russia, is something of a misnomer, because it differs from the original version, against the U.S.S.R., in that it’s already a hot war, which started in Ukraine as being the key proxy-state for the American Government’s chief foreign-policy aim, of defeating Russia; and it’s a war that is very bloody, and widely lied-about in both the U.S. and Europe, but that is discussed in Russia as if it were somehow the result of mere errors by Western powers, when in fact all of the Western leaders knew from the get-go that this was intended to be a lynching of Russia by Uncle Sam, and when the EU have been going along with this aim because the U.S. aristocracy supposedly have the interests of European aristocrats in mind and not only their own: it’s ’the Western Alliance,’ after all.

European Commission Chief Wants to Create New EU Army

The European Union is unique among the nations of history. Most governing bodies are built around a culture and language that is shared amongst the people they rule, which is then followed by a shared system of laws, courts, defense forces, currency etc. Or in the case of an empire, the system hinges upon military dominance, which then enforces those conditions on every culture it can gobble up.

But the European Union is the only nation (to my knowledge) that attempted to use monetary and economic policy (the Euro) to unite a diverse set of culture, before turning into a real government in its own right. The only thing missing from the EU, is its own standing army. While each EU nation has a military, they still exercise some degree of sovereignty over their defense forces (at least on paper).

European Central Bank Launches Trillion-Euro Stimulus

The European Central Bank has hit the launch button on its 1.1 trillion euro ($1.2 trillion) stimulus program by starting to buy government bonds.

The chief monetary authority for the 19 countries that use the euro confirmed Monday it had begun the purchases, which aim to make credit cheaper, boost growth and raise inflation. ECB President Mario Draghi had announced the start date last week, sending stocks higher and the euro lower.

The bonds are bought from banks and other financial institutions using newly printed money.

One key effect of the program is expected to be a weaker euro, which would help eurozone exporters. More euros in circulation help drive down the currency's value, as expressed by its exchange rate. Low or negative interest rates encourage investors to invest in a currency where rates are higher, such as the U.S.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is Europe's version ofthe US's QE (Quantitative Easing).

A weaker Euro may be great for large corporations, but lousy for the individuals who have to use it in trade, because it will take far more euros to purchase staples than it did before.

This Was Not Supposed To Happen

As Mario Draghi unleashes his trillion euro bond buying program - aimed from what we are told, at lowering risk premia in credit markets to stimulate the eurozone's economy from utter stagnation - things are not going according to plan. Away from Greece, peripheral bond spreads are all up 8bps on the day and stock indices are mixed on this first day of DOMO (Draghi Open Market Operations) Of course, the other reason for Q€ is to implicitly (because one would never explicitly admit to joining the currency wars) devalue the currency - thus improving competitiveness and exports for the EU; but that's not working out so well as Germany's exports dropped and missed by the most since August... this was not supposed to happen.

NATO's Not Enough! President Juncker Calls For Creation Of European Army To "React Credibly" To Russia

No lessor official than European Commission President (and liar-when-it's-serious) Jean-Claude Juncker has called for the creation of an EU army... in order to show Russia "that [The EU is] serious about defending European values." Juncker explained an EU army would "help us fulfil Europe's responsibilities in the world," arguing that NATO was not enough since not all EU members are part of the alliance. While it may all be political opportunism - Orban at least SOUNDS like he cares about the nation he is leading instead of globalism and Zionism or starting wars with Iran like most of the rest of European leaders.

Berlin Rumbles Washington’s Hidden War Agenda

Berlin and the rest of Europe need to move fast to underpin diplomacy with Russia and to head off Washington’s death-wish plunge into the abyss.

Washington’s reckless attempts to scuttle the shaky ceasefire in Ukraine are unnerving Germany. The German government feels, with good reason, that the Americans are trying to undermine its recent efforts to mediate a political solution to the nearly year-old conflict, which has caused at least 6,000 deaths and up to one million refugees. Not only that but the violence between the ultranationalist regime in Kiev and the pro-Russian separatists in the east is threatening to spillover into a wider war that could involve Russia and the rest of Europe.

Israel Shamir: Who Killed Nemtsov

The Russians are worried that pro-Western neoliberal party will regain the positions they lost after 2000, and dead Nemtsov will indeed be more useful for his cause than alive one.

Anyway, while the mourning and the funeral did not cause any breach of peace, the march did not turn into a Maidan or Tahrir, and Bernard Henri Levi did not land on the Red Square, the Putin’s government got cold feet. For a long eight days Russian police looked for the murderers, and meanwhile the Yeltsin’s cadres, people of nineties assaulted Putin from within and the Western media and officials from without. President Putin is not a Genghis Khan, he is a non-confrontational bloke whose great ambition is to live in peace and harmony with the West while defending Russia’s vital interests, and observing interests of Russia’s wealthies and worthies. He also wants to be accepted as an equal among the world’s great, East and West.

Washington Post: Ukraine unofficially has 272 percent inflation!

Whether this admission is made in the hopes of getting more funding to the Kiev regime or whether its intention is to signal that it is time for everybody to get the hell out of Dodge is anybody’s guess, but I personally am much more inclined to believe the latter version. The WAPO actually says that “it’s hard to overstate how challenged Ukraine is” and “Ukraine’s annual inflation is already 272 percent, and, even worse, is picking up speed. Indeed, its monthly inflation rate is 64.5 percent—which translates to 39,000 percent inflation over a year—more than enough to qualify it for “hyperinflation” status” (read the full article, it is very interesting).

Germany slams NATO European commander’s comments on Ukraine as ‘dangerous propaganda’ – Spiegel

A top NATO European commander’s exaggerated comments on the Ukrainian conflict are ‘dangerous propaganda,’ and put the West at risk of losing credibility, sources in the German Chancellor’s Office told Der Spiegel.

General Philip Breedlove made harsh remarks on the situation in Ukraine on Wednesday, saying that the self-defense forces, with the assistance of Russia, have prepared “over a thousand combat vehicles” and “sophisticated air defense, battalions of artillery” in the south-east of the country.

“What is clear is that right now it is not getting better, it is getting worse every day,” NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) concluded.

Germany Has Had Enough With US Neocons: Berlin “Stunned” At US Desire For War In Ukraine

?While Russia’s envoy to NATO notes that statements by the deputy head of NATO testify to the fact that the leaders of the bloc want to intervene in Russia’s internal politics, and are “dreaming of Russian Maidan,” Washington has a bigger problem… Germany. As Der Spiegel reports, while US President Obama ‘supports’ Chancellor Merkel’s efforts at finding a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis, hawks in Washington seem determined to torpedo Berlin’s approach. And NATO’s top commander in Europe hasn’t been helping either with sources in the Chancellery have referred to Breedlove’s comments as “dangerous propaganda.”

This is the view of Russia’s permanent envoy to NATO:

“The speech in Riga demonstrates the concern about Russia’s democracy and internal policy. At last, now we know that NATO has a dream, and this dream is a Maidan in Russia,” Aleksandr Grushko said in comment that was tweeted through the Russian representation office in the alliance.

Webmaster's Commentary:

From the putsch in Ukraine last year right through to the present day, the US government has not wanted a "diplomatic resolution" to the duly elected government there having gotten thrown under a bus; the warmongers in Sodom on the Potomac have wanted war with Russia, to prevent the rise of both the ruble and Russia's economy.

The only thing "stunning" about this is that it has taken the German government so long to wake up to this reality.

?EU won’t be pushed into confrontation over Ukraine – foreign policy chief

The EU is resisting calls from hotheads to supply arms to Ukraine, saying it won’t be pulled into a confrontation with Russia. Europeans cite the progress in implementing a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine between Kiev and local rebels.

The idea of providing lethal aid to Kiev is popular among many NATO officials and American politicians. US House Speaker John Boehner and a bipartisan group of top lawmakers called on President Barack Obama to deliver the weapons. But Europeans are opposing the move, which would likely escalate tensions with Russia.

“The European Union today is extremely realistic about developments in Russia. But we will never be trapped or forced or pushed or pulled into a confrontative [sic] attitude,” the EU’s Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini told the media on Friday, following an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Riga, Latvia.

Europe Blocks U.S. from Racing to War Against Russia

On Friday, 6 March, President Obama placed temporarily on ice his planned increase in weapons and soldiers to help the Ukrainian Government to ‘defend’ Ukraine against the ‘terrorists’ in Donbass, which is the Ukrainian region that had voted 90% for the President whom the Obama Administration overthrew in February 2014. (Here is where the EU first learned, on 26 February 2014, that the overthrow of Viktor Yanukovych had been a coup instead of a genuine popular revolution.) Obama replaced that Government with a racist-fascist anti-Russian regime, which quickly set about exterminating as many residents of Donbass as possible, as quickly as possible (calling them ‘terrorists,’ for their refusal to be ruled by the new Obama-imposed, anti-Russian, Government).

German Recovery? Don't Bet on It

For those impatient to proclaim a Western recovery, this Reuters article is for you. It tries to make the case that the numbers are finally turning favorable for Germany and perhaps for parts of Europe as well.

We can't help recall the talks of green shoots some four years ago, or the constant din of recovery predictions that have been proffered in the mainstream media since then. We observed around that time that there likely would be no real recovery, only an upward surge of securities mart averages in the US and abroad as central banks pumped money into the financial sector while pretending that its Keynesian stimulation would benefit the working class.

Kerry Re-writes History of U.S. Support for Color Revolutions

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry either has a blind spot when it comes to the last 15 years of U.S. foreign policy or he told a big whopping lie in Geneva. Kerry, in defining U.S. action in Ukraine, said that «We [the United States] are not involved in multiple color revolutions». Someone in Kerry’s position should know better. After all, he is not only the chief foreign policy officer of the United States but he served as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee from 2009 to 2013 and was a member of the committee from the very outset of America’s «themed» or «color» revolutions, beginning with the October 5th Revolution, which overthrew Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic in 2000.

Washington Yanks British Bulldog into Line

The gross interference by Washington in Britain’s forthcoming election on the vital issue of budgetary priorities clearly demonstrates that British «democracy» is but an appendage to an American leash. And the leash is being yanked to pull the snarling bulldog into line.

In a brazen show of bringing-to-heel in their «special relationship», American political and Pentagon chiefs are openly rebuking the British government to maintain its huge military spend on the NATO alliance – to the possible detriment of already withering public services in austerity-clobbered Britain. The imposition by Washington raises serious questions about the nature of democracy in Britain – the self-proclaimed «Mother of all Parliaments».

Pound now buys more than €1.38 as ECB's bond-buying plan weakens euro - and sterling 'could reach €1.50 this year'

The euro has fallen to new seven-year lows against the pound and 11-year lows versus the dollar after the European Central Bank said its new government bond-buying programme will kick-off next week and last until at least September 2016.

The ECB's attempt to kickstart the ailing eurozone economy by spending €60billion a month on buying sovereign bonds saw the euro tumble today. Against the dollar it came within a sliver of $1.10 - its lowest since early September 2003.

Against the pound the euro fell to 72.3p, or €1.384 to the pound - a level last seen in December 2008. And analysts suggested the euro has even further to fall and could hit 65p by the end of the year. That would get British holidaymakers €1.50 to the pound - an exchange rate that has not been seen since February 2007.
