The Masses are Waking up, Nuit Debout Gatherings Spreading in Europe

Today on The Janssen Report: people are increasingly dissatisfied with the corruption and anti-social political decision-making in Europe. Nuit Debout is a new phenomenon that started in Paris on March 31st and is currently spreading to multiple countries (and numerous cities) in Europe. People gathering to discuss different topics on economics, politics and other matters they find of importance.
The corporate mainstream media hardly reports on it and if they do, they cover mostly the negative aspects (such as rioting).
I think it's a very positive sign of the masses waking up to the harsh reality of fascism and economic slavery that we are facing.

It is also a banker, a judicial system, a watchdog, a military alliance, and, increasingly, an enforcer of economic rules among its 28 members.

The discrepancy between the two types of poll has narrowed in the last few months.

Why we MUST quit the EU, by Cameron's guru: Friend and strategist Steve Hilton breaks ranks on Brexit to say Britain will be 'literally ungovernable' unless we take back power from the self-serving elite

In a shattering blow to the Prime Minister, Steve Hilton claims the UK is ‘literally ungovernable’ as a democracy while it remains in a club that has been ‘corruptly captured’ by a self-serving elite.

And in an attack on Project Fear, the former No 10 adviser dismisses claims by Mr Cameron, the IMF and the Bank of England that being in the EU makes us more secure.

In an exclusive Daily Mail article, Mr Hilton – who persuaded Mr Cameron to stand for Tory leader – also delivers a devastating assessment of the PM’s referendum deal.

He says Mr Cameron made only ‘modest’ demands of Brussels – and that even these were swatted contemptuously aside. He also warns that Brussels will take revenge on Britain for the referendum if it votes to stay, by imposing fresh diktats.

Poland braced for EU Commission opinion amid row

The European Commission is on Monday expected to issue an opinion critical of the state of democracy and the rule of law in Poland under the country’s Law and Justice (PiS) government.

The commission, the executive body of the European Union, last week gave Poland until Monday to find a solution to an ongoing row and a deadlock over the country’s Constitutional Tribunal.

But since then tensions have escalated, with the PiS-dominated parliament voting through a resolution on Friday calling on the government to "defy all actions infringing" Poland’s sovereignty and pointing a blaming finger at Brussels.

A critical opinion by the European Commission would be a further step in a long process that could lead to the EU imposing penalties on Warsaw, theoretically including the suspension of its voting rights in the EU Council.

But Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said his country would veto any such move, which would have to be backed unanimously by EU member states.

Austrians vote on rightist contenders

Austrians have gone to the polls in a presidential election that serves as a bellwether for rising populist sentiments in Europe.

Norbert Hofer of the right-wing populist Freedom Party enters the run-off election as the favourite, after the 45-year-old won the first round in April with 35 per cent of the votes.

Alexander Van der Bellen, a 72-year-old former Green party leader, came in second in April, with 21 per cent. Although he runs as an independent, his campaign was financed by the Greens.

As the Freedom Party has a eurosceptic and anti-immigration stance that is also followed by other populist parties in Europe, the presidential race has drawn an unusual amount of attention abroad, especially in neighbouring Germany, where the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) enjoys growing support.

Andre Poggenburg, the AfD chief in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt, said that a win by Hofer would be a signal for Germany and noted an "atmosphere of change when it comes to national parties" in Europe.

Poland's PM defies EU pressure over constitutional crisis

Poland's prime minister has defied pressure from European Union leaders who are urging an end to a dragging political conflict, saying her conservative government will never bow to any ultimatum.

Prime Minister Beata Szydlo was responding Friday to a warning from the EU, which said it will take action next week unless Warsaw takes steps toward ending a stalemate that is paralyzing Poland's Constitutional Tribunal. The EU could recommend ways of fixing the issue and could even impose sanctions in the name of protecting EU values.

Speaking in Parliament, Szydlo drew an outcry from the opposition by saying the "Polish government will never yield to any ultimatum" but only to the will of the Poles. She said Poland was "in dialogue" with the EU and expressed surprise at its tone.

Glyphosate EU approval decision postponed as concerns refuse to go away

Commenting on the development, Green environment and food safety spokesperson Bart Staes stated:

"This latest postponement is a sign that the significant opposition to reapproving glyphosate is being taken seriously by key EU governments. It is clear that the EU Commission and the agro-chemical industry were hell-bent on bulldozing through the approval of glyphosate for unrestricted use for a long timeframe but thankfully this push has been headed off for now. We hope this postponement will convince more EU governments to join in opposing the approval of this controversial substance and, at the very least, to proactively propose comprehensive restrictions on its use.

"The Commission cannot keep coming back with proposals that do not address the concerns with glyphosate. Instead, it needs to finally recognise that there are major problems with glyphosate and legislate for this.

U.S., Russia stalemate on Syria frustrates European powers

The Obama administration's failure to convince Moscow that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad must go is fuelling European frustration at being sidelined in efforts to end the country's five-year civil war, diplomats say. Some diplomats and analysts question whether the United States has misread Russia's desire to keep Assad in power.

"Many have consistently underestimated Russia's determination to prevent this regime from falling," said Philip Gordon, a former National Security Council aide to U.S. President Barack Obama. "They've been pretty clear that they're not prepared to let this happen."

Ahead of a meeting on Tuesday of the 17-nation group backing Syria peace talks in Vienna, a senior U.N. diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Europeans "tend to be pretty skeptical about the U.S.-Russia bilateralism."

Webmaster's Commentary:

This situation is very clear-cut; the US government wants Al-Assad out, and by any means necessary, and soon.

Russia will do everything possible to make sure that does not happen, until a true political transition is agreed upon by all parties, with Al-Assad staying during the transition at least for some period of time.

Regime change in Syria will make the long planned invasion of Iran by the US military easier (they think).

But should Iran be invaded, Russia will come to its aid militarily; various high profile politicians and military personnel have stated this very publicly.

With US troops on the ground in Syria (and we still don't know the real numbers on this), it is only a question of time before we see some degree of military escalation between Russia and the US government over Syria, and potentially Iran; unfortunately, this is inevitable.
