Digital driver's licenses come with one small (big) problem

Iowa announces it is testing driver's licenses on phones. But what if a police officer asks to take your phone, so that he can check your license in his own vehicle?

Defense Bill Passes, Giving Sacred Native American Sites To Mining Company

The U.S. Senate passed a measure authorizing the nation’s defense programs Friday, and along with it managed to give lands sacred to Native Americans to a foreign company that owns a uranium mine with Iran.

The $585 billion National Defense Authorization Act of 2015 is one of the must-pass pieces of legislation that Congress moves every year. But like they did in attaching extraneous riders to the must-pass government funding bill, lawmakers used the defense bill as a vehicle to pass a massive public lands package.

The bill sailed through on a vote of 89 to 11.

Many of the land measures were popular. But one, the Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act, had twice failed to win support in the House of Representatives, blocked both by conservationists and conservatives.

Webmaster's Commentary:

You've got to wonder how many members of the Senate own shares in this company. Oh, and about the country's "environmental record", if one can call it that?!?!

The following seems to be pretty damned representative of this:

Me’ekamui, the ‘Sacred Island’ of Bougainville is seen by its people as a natural, God-given inheritance to be willfully preserved from generation to generation. These indigenous people flourished here for thousands of years—thriving on the island’s rich resources of rain forested land and teeming rivers. Generations of Bougainvilleans built their culture into a productive self-sufficient economy. Since time immemorial, land on Bougainville has been owned on a clan basis, being passed down from mother to daughter. Land boundaries are well known, and have been respected for thousands of years. According to custom, clans hold the rights to the land, the sky above and the earth below. Disrespecting this longtime custom, corporate greed bloodied the heart and soul of Bougainville with the construction of the Panguana mine. Desperate Survival Once Rio Tinto set foot on their land in 1960, the villagers witnessed almost an immediate sense of loss. Their health, environmental resources and livelihood were forsaken for corporate gain. Almost immediately, the Bougainvilleans fell sick from exposure to the mine’s toxins, chemicals and air pollutants. Upper respiratory infections such as Asthma and TB became more common, and even killed people. Children became ill with coughs, colds and chronic ear infections. Many women even died giving birth, because of the lack of basic medicine and care. As Rio Tinto ravaged the island mining for copper, the company dumped waste rock and tailings, turning the river valleys into a virtual wasteland. Fish and whole forests died, depleting the villagers of their major food source, and eliminating their cash cropping systems. The villagers lost their property due to ongoing environmental contamination. Their water became non-potable, and they were forced to come up with other resources for survival. Unable to live this way, the people pleaded to Rio Tinto to give them control of their own land surrounding the mine. When Rio Tinto ignored their request, the Bougainvilleans united in the name of their culture and fought for their right to their inherent resources. The Bougainvilleans’ fight for their rights left many people dead and many more injured. Three entire principal villages were relocated, and many life-long inhabitants were forced to flee the island. - See more at: http://the-truth-reveal.blogspot.com/2007/09/rio-tinto-environmental-destruction.html#sthash.SNSrWetU.dpuf

And then, there's this lovely little story from Mongolia:

The Network is focusing support in Mongolia, where Rio Tinto has invested billions and mine workers are particularly vulnerable. The company has a US $6 billion investment in the vast Oyu Tolgoi copper and gold mine in the Gobi Desert. Workers there are represented by IndustriALL affiliate the Federation of Energy, Geology and Mining Workers’ Trade Unions of Mongolia (MEGM). Last year, Rio Tinto was condemned by the Supreme Court in Mongolia for wage discrimination against Mongolian nationals and unfair dismissal. The company also faced international criticism for sacking thousands of workers in the country without adequate consultation. ndustriALL assistant general secretary Kemal Özkan says that with the campaign, IndustriALL Global Union aims to build union power at Rio Tinto plants around the world, uniting workers in the struggle for decent work: “Rio Tinto has extensive experience in causing one conflict after another with trade unions, indigenous organizations, environmental groups and other key community stakeholders. Unions and civil society are coming together in an unprecedented way to push back against Rio Tinto for the benefit of workers, the environment and communities.” “For far too long, Rio Tinto has systematically put profits before people, sometimes with fatal consequences like the recent deaths at the Grasberg mine in Papua New Guinea. Workers are saying enough is enough,” says Kemal Özkan. The Network meeting follows a global day of protests on 7 October as as part of IndustriALL’s campaign to demand a new era at Rio Tinto.

More slow genocide for America's First Nations: more profit for a company whose "contributions", most likely, have lead to the electoral success of many of those senators voting for this rider.

The Canadian torture state

Whipping with cables. Prolonged solitary confinement. Other unspeakable acts, committed against citizens with official blessing. Use of "information" gathered by torture considered legitimate.

No, no, I don't mean the Torture Report. I'm talking about Canada.

Let the other sordid drama play itself out in America. We've now learned more about "rectal feeding" (read: medically unjustified anal rape) than we ever wanted to know, and that's just for starters. Did the authorities raid every prison for the criminally insane to swell CIA ranks? Far worse, we're watching a desperate attempt to frame this whole series of vile acts as a period in (recent) history now thankfully ended. Don't you go believing that fairytale, now.

Former Anderson cop sentenced – again – on rape charge

A former Anderson police officer who admitted raping a woman in his custody was sentenced Friday in Sacramento federal court to five years in prison, based on his guilty plea of violating the woman’s civil rights.

Bryan Robert Benson, 30, was originally charged in 2011 in Shasta Superior Court with rape and kidnapping, and would have faced life in prison had he been convicted. Instead, he was sentenced to 364 days in jail after pleading no contest to felony assault by a police officer and to soliciting a lewd act, a misdemeanor.

Shasta County prosecutors said at the time that the outcome was dictated by a loophole in the law that would have allowed Benson’s lawyers to argue the sex was consensual because the woman had not yet been booked into jail.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This loophole in California law should be fixed, and right the hell now.

I don't think I will ever visit California again, if this is the police's interpretation of "to protect and serve", even if I do not indulge in the kinds of activities which got this woman arrested in the first place.

Spain passes tough new 'anti-protest' law

Spain on Thursday finally passed its new controversial Citizen Security Law which opponents say will severely limit civil liberties in the country.

The unpopular law contains retains existing fines of up to €600,000 ($746,000) for unauthorized protests outside buildings "which provide basic services to the community", a definition that encompasses everything from hospitals to universities and the Spanish parliament.

The new law, which the government argues will ensure public security, also forbids the photographing or filming of police officers in situations where doing so could put them in danger. This could result in a fine of up to €30,000. Showing a "lack of respect" to those in uniform, meanwhile, could lead to a fine of €600.

The law has been dubbed the 'ley mordaza' or 'gag law' by opposition groups and the Spanish media, many of whom believe the law will curtail individual rights.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Spain's government appears to be re-embracing its fascist past, just as the US government is embracing its fascist present, and future.

Congress Passes Temporary Tax Breaks for Big Business Now for 15 Years Straight

Last week, the House voted to extend special interest tax breaks, most of which expired at the end of last year. The 55 provisions included in this year's package are the legacy of the Bush-era tax cuts that began in 2001. But 15 years later, these temporary tax break meant to stimulate a slowing economy have mutated into a slew of provisions that mostly help corporations avoid taxes. According to the bipartisan nonprofit Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, these tax extenders have sapped the U.S. government of $44 billion in lost revenue over the past decade. And while some provisions do help individuals in the middle and lower classes, like tuition credits and deductions for teachers buying school supplies, three-quarters of that lost revenue has gone to big businesses.

5 Awful Things Congress Snuck Into the Omnibus Budget Deal

On Tuesday, Congressional leaders struck a deal to avert another government shutdown and put off our next completely avoidable, 100% self-imposed budget crisis until next September. A landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision in 2013 that made it all but impossible to sue foreign companies in U.S. courts for alleged roles in overseas human rights abuses is proving to be a boon for U.S. firms too, court documents show.

In the roughly year and a half since the ruling in Kiobel v. Royal Dutch Petroleum Co, U.S. companies such as Chiquita Brands International Inc , IBM Corp and Ford Motor Co have successfully invoked the Supreme Court’s reasoning to fend off lawsuits alleging they were involved in human rights abuses in South Africa, Colombia and elsewhere.

House narrowly approves spending bill, legislation heads to Senate

The House narrowly approved a sweeping spending bill Thursday night despite deep misgivings among liberals and conservatives alike, sending the measure to the Senate as lawmakers averted a partial government shutdown.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Misgivings." That is Congress' reaction to the provision in the bill that dump $300 trillion (with a 't') in derivatives exposure onto the taxpayers, and allow pension funds who have lost money to Wall Street's frauds to slash benefits to the retired workers that paid that money into the pension fund in the first place.

New Federal Law Targets Retirement Benefit Cuts: “We Thought Our Pension Was Secure”

The $1.01 trillion spending bill being moving through Congress right now includes some new provisions that may come as a shock to millions of American pension holders. In a bipartisan deal that also included leaders of unions and retirement fund management companies, pension recipients who depend on the money promised to them during their working years may see significant cuts to their monthly disbursements.

There have been Senate hearings, exploratory committees and rumors over the years, but nothing had ever really been legislated so most Americans simply ignored it as another one of those “conspiracy theories.”

Unit now.

Webmaster's Commentary:

INTRODUCING! PENSION MOTEL! YOUR CASH CHECKS IN, BUT IT NEVER CHECKS OUT. ANOTHER FINE PRODUCT BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS.

Pension plans to be looted nationwide as Congress okays institutional theft of funds

When societies approach collapse, coercion shifts to outright theft: Stealing money right out of your bank account, for example, like we recently witnessed in Cyprus. Government also routinely target pension funds and even private retirement accounts, attempting to keep itself afloat by any means necessary.

Just like clockwork, that looting of pension plans is now about to commence. "Congress could soon allow the benefits of current retirees to be cut as part of an agreement to address the fiscal distress confronting some of the nation's 1,400 multi-employer pension plans," writes Michael Fletcher of the Washington Post. [1] The Post continues:

"This proposal would devastate retirees and their surviving spouses," said Karen Friedman, executive vice president of the Pension Rights Center, a nonprofit group. "The proposal would also torpedo basic protections of the federal private pension law ... that states that once benefits are earned, they can't be cut back."

Senator: Bush misled nation in run-up to Iraq war

The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee released new information on Thursday that he claims is evidence that the Bush administration misled the nation in the run-up to the war in Iraq.

In a speech on the Senate floor, retiring Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., outlined a 2003 CIA cable that warns George W. Bush administration officials against making references to claims that Mohammad Atta - the man who led the 9/11 hijackers - met with an Iraqi intelligence officer in the Czech Republic before the Sept. 11, 2011, attacks. Levin claims Bush officials used the unconfirmed meeting to link Iraq to 9/11 to justify the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

Webmaster's Commentary:

All wars are started with lies. The people of the initiating nation do not want to go to war, as it is dirty, hard, dangerous, and ill-paid. No ruler dares come out and say, "Attack this other land because I want them attacked." Nobody would listen, or would demand a just share of the loot. Thus, the leaders who out of their own greed and lust for conquest must deceive the populace into thinking war is their only option, with frauds such as the Gleiwitz incident, torpedoes in the Gulf of Tonkin, Spanish mines in Havana harbor, or 9-11.

Congress Passes Bill Granting “Unlimited Access to Communications of Every American”

According to Congressman Justin Amash, Congress just passed a bill, (Dec 11th 2014) which grants the government and law enforcement “unlimited access to the communications of every American”.

When the Michigan lawmaker discovered that the Intelligence Authorization Act for FY 2015 had been amended with a provision that authorizes “the acquisition, retention, and dissemination” of all communications data from U.S. citizens, he desperately attempted to organize a roll call vote on the bill.

However, the legislation was passed yesterday 325-100 via a voice vote, a green light for what Amash describes as “one of the most egregious sections of law I’ve encountered during my time as a representative”.

The bill allows the private communications of Americans to be scooped up without a court order and then transferred to law enforcement for criminal investigations.

FALSE FLAG WARNING - Chicago A Top Terror Target; Ominous Tweet Connects ISIS Threat In City

Over the past six years, Chicago has become a top potential target for international terrorists, a top security expert said Friday, making the posting of a veiled threat by Islamic radicals on Twitter a higher cause for concern.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Right now Washington DC is in a corner and desperate. The official confirmation of the use of torture on innocent victims has destroyed the moral authority of the United States. Foreign nations, who knew all along what was happening, but stayed silent for political reasons, are now free to vent their disdain openly.

DC needs a distraction. They need to refocus the public attention on war. They need, like Israel, to regain the victim status.

The defenders of the torture regime justify their actions on the basis of 9-11, and nothing would serve them better than a repeat right now in these last weeks before Christmas.

Hence, we are suddenly seeing all these stories about ISIS is already in America and ready to strike. FOX News ran a poll in which they reported 81% of Americans say ISIS will attack on US soil soon. No American actually knows what ISIS will do, outside of those US officials conducting this clandestine operation. But while prudent minds might balk at a new false-flag operation in a world where the public already distrusts the official story on anything, DC is desperate, and desperate animals take desperate chances!

Are Rush Limbaugh And Fox News Still Laughing About Torture?

Last spring, Palin appeared before an NRA convention crowd and laughed about how liberals supposedly coddle America's mortal adversaries. "Oh, but you can't offend them, can't make them feel uncomfortable, not even a smidgen," said Palin. "Well, if I were in charge, they would know that waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists," The NRA audience roared with approval, but even some conservative commentators who saw the tape of Palin's wisecrack took offense, upset that she had linked bodily torture with a Christian sacrament. Your Survival Depends On Taking Your Money Out of the Bank

Nearly every publication estimates the derivatives debt to be in the range of one quadrillion dollars to $1.5 quadrillion dollars. Conservative estimates tell us that this derivatives debt, that has been assumed by the governments of the world, is at least 16 times the entire value of the assets of Planet Earth. This generation cannot pay off this debt. Your children, grandchildren and even great-great-great-great-great grandchildren cannot pay off this debt. If the status quo were to remain in place this debt could not be paid off in the 25th century, the 30th century, nor the 50th century. My estimates place the interest on the debt to exceed the entire value of the world’s assets and the interest is increasing far faster than the governments of the world can service the debt. Who is the debt owed to? It is owed to the first movers, the owners of the central banking system.

Congressional leaders were trying to hold the center in the run-up to Thursday’s government shutdown deadline, with Senate Democrats and House Republicans pleading for their troops to back a $1.1 trillion spending bill that had those on both extremes of the ideological spectrum fuming.

House Republican leaders touted dents to the Internal Revenue Service budget and Environmental Protection Agency staffing levels, language that stalls some of President Obama’s plans to battle climate change, and the chance to fight the White House’s deportation amnesty next year as reasons to get behind the massive 1,600-page bill.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Wherever you see any articles, posts, or blogs about raising the debt ceiling, please post the above graphic, or quote the following...

"The question Americans should be asking is not whether to raise the debt ceiling, but rather why the Federal Government, which is authorized by the Constitution to create and issue interest-free money, instead borrows that money at interest from a privately owned central bank, thereby plunging future generations into debt slavery to that bank? THAT is the real question Americans should be asking!"

The great lie of our time

In all International Relations (IR) classrooms throughout the English-speaking world, something called the democratic peace theory is taught. The theory holds that countries are less likely to go to war if they are democracies, and that installing democratic regimes is therefore the path to peace and security in the world. Paradoxically, the theory is more often applied to justify wars than to end them.

Democratic peace theory is a large part of the underlying rhetoric behind the United States’ commitment to “democratization” in the world’s conflict zones, particularly the Middle East and the former Soviet Union. While the US supplies arms to dictatorships it falsely labels “democracies,” it works to overthrow governments that were actually democratically elected.

Congressional leaders hammer out deal to allow pension plans to cut retiree benefits

A measure that would for the first time allow the benefits of current retirees to be severely cut is set to be attached to a massive spending bill, part of an effort to save some of the nation’s most distressed pension plans.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These pension plans were put into distress when Wall Street's pet ratings agencies rated the mortgage-backed securities as "Triple A", making it legal for pension plans to invest in them. Then when the fraud collapsed in 2008, pensions were defunded. But nobody in either government of the corporate media had the gonads to point the finger of blame for the pensions problem where it belonged and instead blamed "greedy" workers and anyone who had the temerity to live to a ripe old age. So, together with the proposal to drop the derivatives losses onto the American people, this proposed bill is another example of Congress screwing ordinary Americans to pay for Wall Street's crimes!

When Police and Journalists Become “Media Partners”

Major news media consider the FSU shooting more or less a closed case. After all, journalists appear to have been spoon-fed a story that includes its own sort of “The End” moment. A madman with a gun showed up in a public place. Terrified witnesses were interviewed and their fearful testimony publicized. The shooter’s bizarre online statements were duly noted. Then, official pleas for “unity,” “strength,” and “healing” were unquestioningly parroted, and less than two days later the entire affair was capped off with a photo op candlelight vigil.

With the notion of a full scale, coordinated media production in mind, it should be unsurprising that law enforcement and news media now consider themselves to be “partners” in such a tragedy’s public presentation.

FLASHBACK - Concentration Camps in America:Are They For You?

The Halliburton subsidiary KBR (formerly Brown and Root) announced on Jan. 24 that it had been awarded a $385 million contingency contract by the Department of Homeland Security to build detention camps. Two weeks later, on Feb. 6, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced that the Fiscal Year 2007 federal budget would allocate over $400 million to add 6,700 additional detention beds (an increase of 32 percent over 2006). This $400 million allocation is more than a four-fold increase over the FY 2006 budget, which provided only $90 million for the same purpose. [Pacific News 2/21/06]

TIMELY SPOOFS ~~ SENATE REPORT CONDEMNS CIA TORTURE

On CIA torture horrors – note that the report does not include torture by groups other then by the CIA! It doesn’t include rendition to black sites where torture took place by others. It doesn’t include what goes on at Guantanomo (still). Who are these psychopaths that do this? And who orders it done? I once asked what the profile of a torturer is and the answer was, your next door neighbor if he is convinced you are a threat. That is probably true but the answer is incomplete. I think there are sadists out there who do wind up in the military. And, it is a tool of terror which makes many very hesitant to join the opposition. Today many aren’t opposing anything – they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. And the scum in power that ordered all this are free to lead lives in luxury, no legal action against them, while innocent Black men in America die in the hands of police at the rate of about 2 a week.

Will Lawmakers Sneak a Gift to Wall Street into the Spending Bill?

Under cover of legislative chaos, lawmakers from both parties are working this week to preserve taxpayer-backing for some of Wall Street’s riskiest activities.

The deal taking shape would be slipped into the catch-all federal spending bill that is meant to finance the government in 2015, according to Capitol Hill sources who are not authorized to speak publicly. It would effectively repeal a plank of the Dodd-Frank financial reform law that would force big banks to conduct their most speculative derivatives trades in separately-capitalized subsidiaries, where they would be ineligible for federal deposit insurance, Federal Reserve assistance or other taxpayer-provided support.

The point of the law is to end the “heads I win, tails you lose,” game on Wall Street, in which the biggest banks keep the lavish winnings from their bets while pushing catastrophic losses onto the public, as happened in the financial crisis.

Former Rep. Joe Walsh applauds torture: Rectal feeding is ‘job description’ of an ‘American hero’

Radio host and former Republican Rep. Joe Walsh suggested on Wednesday that anyone who participated in torture techniques like rectal forced feedings or chaining prisoners naked to the floor were “American heroes.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

A short memo to Joe Walsh: sir, your amazingly studied lack of understanding of what the use of torture does to the perception of what this country is, both at home and abroad, is, to put it mildly, stunning.

When America either tortures prisoners of war, or outsources it to some third world thugs, the following happens.

1. People understand that, at the top levels of US government, those very values that used to put us in a unique place as a people and a country, those values including human rights, human dignity, and decency are simply discarded.

2. That there are some really emotionally twisted pieces of work at the highest levels of US government, who get off on doing/watching this kind of torture being done. I would suspect, sir, that you may well be one of those people.

Humankind has known, from the time of the Catholic Inquisition, that torture only gets the tortured individual to say what the torturer wants them to stay in order to get the torture to stop.

One of the master interrogators of World War II was the German Hans Scharff. Instead of using torture, he used what information he could gather from the POW's backgrounds. as reported at worldwarhistoryonline:

Hanns Scharff (left) always made sure he knew about the personal circumstances of prisoners of war before interrogating them Much of the debate about the interrogation of suspected terrorists has been about whether the methods used, such as waterboarding, could be described as torture. Historian Julian Putkowski examines how a German Luftwaffe interrogator used persuasion rather than punishment to get prisoners of war to talk. During the latter part of World War II lots of allied fliers got shot down over Germany. Many of the survivors - or terrorfliegers as they were termed by the Nazis - got rounded up and were dispatched to Luftwaffe's interrogation unit at Dulag Luft POW Camp, near Oberursel. After being marched into the camp, they were placed in solitary confinement and in spite of the provisions of the Geneva Convention, they anticipated rough handling, possibly having their fingernails torn off by Nazi torturers. Aircrew who anticipated a Gestapo-style battering were in for a surprise when they encountered Obergefreiter Hanns Scharff, who had acquired fluent English when working as a businessman in pre-war South Africa. Although his inscrutability secured him the nick-name Stone Face, he was otherwise a genial fellow. He was a self-taught interrogator who used persuasion rather than punishment as a strategy for getting Allied prisoners of war to disclose more than the customary name, rank and number, permitted by the Geneva Convention. Scharff always began by doing his homework thoroughly. Before commencing an interrogation session, he checked all available data, generally acquainting himself with whatever was known about the pilot's service and personal circumstances. The Scharff method, if so it may be called, relied on the initial premise that it was better for a flier to co-operate with the Luftwaffe, instead of being regarded as a spy and handed over to the Gestapo. Even though there were a few prisoners who remained button-lipped, Scharff resolutely refused to descend to using physical coercion. Instead of using pliers to squeeze information out of prisoners, Scharff got what he and his superiors wanted by playing on a prisoner's sense of isolation and psychological insecurity. Carefully deploying what were sometimes meagre scraps of data, Scharff sought to create the illusion of total knowledge about a prisoner's activities. Misled into believing that the interrogator knew just about everything anyway, the latter could then be bamboozled into disclosing military secrets. Scharff appeared to reverse the overtly adversarial relationship between interrogator and prisoner by adopting a subtle, softly-softly approach.

3. And Joe, I would like to strongly caution you on your mindless cheerleading of CIA torture: when the US tortures, it gives some bad guys who don't necessarily like us very much carte blanche to torture both American military members, and American civilians. Did that notion ever cross your mind?!?

Thought not

Remember: Hitler praised the Gestapo and the SS as "heroes".

U.S. PROTESTERS DEMAND: END SECRECY, RELEASE THE TEXTS ON TRANS-PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP

Cassidy Regan, trade organizer for Popular Resistance, remarked that after public pressure the European Union recently agreed to release its negotiating proposals for the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership to the public. The EU wanted to release the full text of the agreement but was blocked by the United States.

“The trade agreements being drafted in secret threaten everything from worker rights and wages to public health and access to medicines. The negotiators keep texts hidden because these agreements aren’t made with the public in mind — instead, they serve to give transnational corporations further power to exploit people and the planet for the sake of profit. The unprecedented lack of transparency denies communities’ right to know policies that could impact so many aspects of our lives, for generations to come.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

That the TPP is negotiated behind the backs of the American people, and with no transparency whatsoever, demonstrates, painfully clearly, that the US government is being run BY the Corporations; OF the Corporations; and FOR the Corporations.

We the People have become irrelevant and expendable to this government, and it is high time that this stops!

FDR’s 1933 Gold Confiscation was a Bailout of the Federal Reserve Bank

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s 1933 executive order outlawing the private ownership of gold in the United States was arguably unconstitutional. But why did he do it ? Many historians and economists point to efforts to get the economy moving again as the reason, the theory being that people were hoarding gold and the velocity of money in circulation needed to be sped up.

But the real reason for the gold confiscation was a bailout of the privately-controlled Federal Reserve Bank. And the evidence has been printed right in front of our faces.

Fox melts down after torture report: ‘The United States of America is awesome, we are awesome!’

Fox News analysts, hosts and reporters on Tuesday wasted no time in blasting Democrats after Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) released a report condemning the CIA’s use of torture and other enhanced interrogation techniques.

Just moments after Feinstein announced on the floor of the Senate that the Intelligence Committee had made the long-delayed torture report public, Fox News National Security Analyst K.T. McFarland insisted that Democrats were going to “do harm” to the country by angering terrorists.

McFarland, who said that torture techniques were both legal and justified by the horrific terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, argued that Democrats were only releasing the report for political reasons.

“Why go after it now unless the motivation is completely political?” she remarked.

What Bad, Shameful, Dirty Behavior is U.S. Judge Richard Posner Hiding? Demand to Know.

Like so many federal judges, Judge Posner recognizes rights only when they belong to agents of the state or the economic elite. When it’s ordinary citizens at issue, he snidely rejects any such protections. Of course, this is exactly backwards: those exercising public power (police officers) have a lower entitlement to privacy than private individuals. But power-servants like Judge Posner view only actors of the state and those who serve it (such as himself) as entitled to these prerogatives. That’s become the corrupt essence of the U.S. justice system, and it’s perfectly expressed by Judge Posner’s radically divergent views based on whose privacy is at stake.

Hawaii under martial law was like ‘military dictatorship’ (1941-1944)

Islanders suffered under nearly three years of martial law from 1941-1944; so oppressive that it was later described by a federal judge as a “military dictatorship.” All manner of civilian liberties were replaced by oppressive military orders enforced by American soldiers.

US intelligence fears violence, deaths abroad after CIA torture report release

The US intelligence agencies predict that the publication of a Senate report on the use of torture on terror suspects by the CIA will cause “violence and deaths” abroad, with security beefed up at US foreign installations.

The 480-page report on Central Intelligence Agency’s interrogation techniques after 9/11 is to be to be released next week. The document is a summary of a larger 6,000-page study, which still remains classified.

The US intelligence agencies as well as foreign governments have said privately that the publication of the paper will be used by the extremists to promote deadly violence, Rep. Mike Rogers, a Michigan Republican, told CNN’s State of the Union program.

Rogers questioned the very need for the report to be released as the investigation of CIA torture by the Justice Department saw no criminal charges filed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF US alphabet soup "security" agencies were worried about the ultimately results of the torture report, perhaps they should have forbidden the us of torture against US-held prisoners of war from the beginning of the conflict.

We have known, from the time of the Catholic Inquisition, that torture rarely produces actionable intelligence, but gets the tortured to confess to ANYTHING in order to get the torture to stop, no matter how ridiculous the charges may be.

And I think the American people deserve to know just what their tax dollars bought, in terms of the lengths to which these torturers went, to inflict both the highest level of physical and emotional pain to those in their charge.

I will remind our readers (and if you have a weak stomach, you'd bloody better not read the remainder of this post) about what was done to one Binyam Mohamed, a British resident, held at Gitmo. As reported on February 9, 2009, at commondreams.org:

Last week, two British High Court judges ruled against releasing documents describing the treatment of Binyam Mohamed, a British resident who is currently being held at Guantanamo Bay. The judges said the Bush administration “had threatened to withhold intelligence cooperation with Britain if the information were made public.” But The Daily Telegraph reported over the weekend that the documents actually “contained details of how British intelligence officers supplied information to [Mohamed's] captors and contributed questions while he was brutally tortured.” In fact, it was British officials, not the Americans, who pressured Foreign Secretary David Miliband “to do nothing that would leave serving MI6 officers open to prosecution.” According to the Telegraph’s sources, the documents describe particularly gruesome interrogation tactics: The 25 lines edited out of the court papers contained details of how Mr Mohamed’s genitals were sliced with a scalpel and other torture methods so extreme that waterboarding, the controversial technique of simulated drowning, “is very far down the list of things they did,
the official said.

Folks, is this America a country you can respect, the land of the allegedly free, and the home of genital mutilation in order to achieve a confession?!?

IS THIS what it means to be an American, in the 21st century, that we have embraced a culture of torture against prisoners of war?

I sure as hell hope not: and if I sound angry, I am. An America that tortures prisoners of war to extract confessions is not the America in which I thought I lived, or believed in.

That America, with morals, and roots in fairness, democracy, and humanitarian values, appears to have gone the way of the dribble glass or the Whoopie cushion. This is made painfully apparent by our celebrity worship; our mindless consumerism; our economics; and these constant drives toward war as the only way to save a flailing economy, rather than let go of our debt-based system, always poised to make the bankers richer.

NATO Prepositions Weapons in Poland for Attack on Russia

The lengthiest excerpt from the article that’s online is at NATO’s own site, the PR delivered straight from the horses’ mouth, http://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/natosource/russia-fears-prompt-na..., which posting there is certainly validation that the article represents NATO’s position accurately, even if it does so in ‘appropriately’ vague terms. (Of course, that’s not “appropriate” for readers, but for NATO, which is the weapons-manufacturers’ trade-organization, that’s being served in this ‘news’ story.)

Webmaster's Commentary:

A NATO-led war against Russia would be utterly disastrous for the West; and if you have a difficult time of wrapping your head around that, just look at the incredible "victory" NATO has wrested from the rebels in Afghanistan, 13 years on. Their "contribution" to the US war effort here has been one very sick joke.

And please don't get me started on the aftermath of their "victory" in Libya, with the ouster of Gaddafi, which has only exacerbated the instability here, to the point where various African countries are tag-teaming their military to control the insurgents. The future of Libya is still very much up in the air.

To put it plainly, NATO and the US do not have the money, the troop strength, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a war with Russia; and this is what makes the military confrontation scenario so scary.

And in terms of Russia's manufacturing and purchasing of war equipment, although they are not spending as much as the US government, the Russians are getting a lot more bang for their buck than does the US.

A war against Russia would be the last, desperate act of a criminally insane Western leadership.

“The history of the American and the history of the Indian have now come full circle and are intertwined in the dictatorial policies of those that control the monetary system of America,” remarks Means.

Secretive Pro-Corporate Trade Deal Could Endanger Health, Labor, Environment

The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is being sold as the world’s biggest trade agreement, with the potential to affect hundreds of millions of Americans and Europeans. So why is it being negotiated in near-total secrecy?

The pact has European food, labor and other advocates up in arms. They say the deal, known by its TTIP acronym, benefits corporations at the expense of the public.

Among the more grave potential consequences: environmental damage, reduced financial regulation, and the placement of corporate rights above those of sovereign nations.

Amid all the hush-hush, one fact stands out: a big place at the negotiating table has been reserved for lobbyists who represent multinational corporations. This has allowed them to argue against including in the final treaty a number of consumer-friendly regulations and standards.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Should this agreement come to fruition, you can bet on two things happening: it will be terrific for multinationals, and completely lousy for We the People.

Senator Jay Rockefeller singlehandedly kills Freedom of Information Act reform

The House unanimously passed a bill that would bring much-needed improvements to the Freedom of Information Act; the Senate had bi-partisan support for it, too -- but outgoing Sen Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) singlehandedly killed the bill in a closed-door committee meeting.

For 509 other members of Congress, these concerns were not enough to halt progress of much-needed reforms. It’s not clear which provisions the Senator is referring to, or what experts across the federal government he is referring to, because this short statement, issued at 6:30 PM on Friday after a full day of advocates, journalists and citizens asking for an explanation, doesn’t explain.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What a lovely parting gift from Senator Rockefeller to the American people; absolutely no transparency from the government which ALLEGEDLY represents them.

Way to go there, Jay!

It won't be easy reining in America's 'chokehold police'

As President Barack Obama and other voices of authority try to reassure the nation that they can bring police abuse under control, a voice of true street-level power is speaking, too.

That voice belongs to Patrick Lynch, and it is frightening. Americans would do well to listen.

Lynch is the president of New York's police union, a man described by his own organization as the most powerful police union chief in the world.

As Newsweek has put it, Lynch represents not just cops, but "what it means to be a cop in America, where guns are legal and restraint is rare."

And to Patrick Lynch, the cellphone video of a black man locked by a white officer in an officially forbidden chokehold, and grunting repeatedly that he couldn't breathe, was essentially unremarkable. As was Eric Garner's death a few minutes later.

How To Stand Up To Abusive U.S. Customs Officials And Win

It’s a familiar ordeal for any American who’s ever traveled abroad. Every U.S. citizen with the temerity to explore lands unknown is forced into a grueling, humiliating interrogation with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials when they return. CBP agents treat returning Americans like criminal defendants, grilling you on everything from what you did abroad to where you’re staying in the U.S. (despite the fact that since you’re a citizen, where you live is none of their business). Even Americans who cross into Canada by car are subjected to warrantless searches of their cars and computers when they come back.

US meddling to blame for ‘all Arab world sufferings’ – Sudan president

The bloody conflicts in Iraq, Syria and Libya are the result of the interference by the US, which wants to gain control over the rich natural resources of those countries, Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir told RT.

“The people in Sudan believe that the since the fall of the Soviet Union [in 1991], injustice and oppression has prevailed around the globe as the US became the sole hegemon and began running things with impunity in many regions, including ours,” Bashir said.

In his interview with RT’s Arabic Channel, the Sudanese president labeled Washington’s policies in Middle East and North Africa as “harmful and destructive.”

“Just look at what’s now happening in Iraq and how it spread to Syria. All the suffering that is going in the Arab world is the work of the US,” he said.

Incredibly, Bolton then said:

“We don’t have an effective propaganda capacity in the United States, we don’t try to sell our own story…”.

Did Bolton just say that? Yes, he did. That’s probably one of the most delusional statements ever made. Of course, Bolton probably feels he doesn’t need to keep pace with the news, because if he did, he’d have noticed that his own government has recently made it ‘legal’ to aim its official version of reality at US citizens, thanks to the repeal of the Smith-Munt Act “anti-propaganda” law.

Ebola Czar Ron Klain to Return to Private Sector

After less than six months on the job, Ron Klain, the former White House adviser appointed by President Barack Obama to handle the nation's response to the threat of Ebola, will return to his private sector job in March.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Klain's mission was to get Ebola out of the media ahead of the mid-term elections. He succeeded. Seen any Ebola coverage in the corporate media lately, like the fact that there are currently 1400 patients under Ebola watch in the US?

When Big pharma has their new whiz-bang vaccines and treatments ready to sell next spring, they will WANT Ebola all over the news and that is why Klain is no longer needed.

NIRP Arrives In The US: TBTF Banks Tell Customers To Move Their Cash Or Be Charged Fees

Back in June, the world was speechless when Goldman's head of the ECB, Mario Draghi, stunned the world when he took Bernanke's ZIRP and raised him one better by announcing the ECB would send deposit rates into negative territory, in the process launching the Neutron bomb known as N(egative)IRP and pushing European monetary policy into the "twilight zone", forcing savers to pay (!) for the privilege of keeping the product of their labor in the form of fiat currency instead of invested in a global ponzi scheme built on capital market so broken even the BIS can no longer contain its shocked amazement.

Well, the US economy may be "decoupling" (just as it did right before Lehman) and one pundit after another are once again (incorrectly) predicting that the Fed may raise rates, but when it comes to the true "value" of money, US banks have just shown that when it comes to spread between reality and the economic outlook, the schism has never been deeper.

GCHQ to snoop through office emails: Anti-spy agency will monitor disgruntled employees in danger of threatening UK security by going rogue

Britain's anti-spy agency is to snoop through office emails in a bid to preempt disgruntled employees threatening the nation's security by going rogue.

The Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) has turned its attention to 'insider' threats within companies - meaning staff gossip and gripes could now be checked for hidden agendas.

The shocking revelation means unusual language or uncharacteristic tones adopted in emails to colleagues could be interpreted as sign that the sender is undermining the UK's security.

Arizona cop punches 15-year-old girl in face as mother begs her to stop

A Female Mesa, Arizona police officer can be seen punching and brutalizing a teen girl as her mother begs the officer to stop.According to the Free Thought Project, the 15-year-old girl was a runaway who the police officer was attempting to apprehend.

As a witness filmed, the officer walked up to the girl and punched her, knocking her down. She then put the girl in a chokehold — even after the teen’s mother begged her and a second officer to stop, saying that the girl is asthmatic and has emotional issues.

“She just punched her in the face!” said the woman holding the camera.

As her legs kicked and flailed, the girl told the officers she couldn’t breathe, screaming, “Stop!” over and over, but they continued to pin her against the pavement.

The second officer said that everything his comrade did was according to police procedure and that if she’d wanted to the officer “could have shot her dead.”

Fall 1941: Pearl Harbor and The Wars of Corporate America

Myth: The US was forced to declare war on Japan after a totally unexpected Japanese attack on the American naval base in Hawaii on December 7, 1941. On account of Japan’s alliance with Nazi Germany, this aggression automatically brought the US into the war against Germany.

Reality: The Roosevelt administration had been eager for some time to wage war against Japan and sought to unleash such a war by means of the institution of an oil embargo and other provocations. Having deciphered Japanese codes, Washington knew a Japanese fleet was on its way to Pearl Harbor, but welcomed the attack since a Japanese aggression would make it possible to “sell” the war to the overwhelmingly anti-war American public.

Under the NYC night sky at 6:30 pm, 10,000 (police report) people gathered at Foley Square to protest the failure of the Grand Jury to indict the killer policeman of Eric Gardner, a Black resident from Staten Island . The demonstration was called by the NYC Civil Liberties Union and The Center For Constitutional Rights. The meeting was peaceful, but participants were angry. The meeting represented the wide range of ethnic and racial population in NYC, from the young to oldsters. “BLACK LIFE MATTERS” and “I CAN’T BREATHE” were the refrains which filled Foley Square as well as “NO PEACE WITH OUT JUSTICE” and “HANDS UP DON’T SHOOT” (referring to Ferguson Mo). Within hours people spontaneously began to leave the Square to circulate through the city. Local street protests continued to the wee hours of the morning. The Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges were closed down. The Holland Tunnel was closed for forty minutes.

Chicago Cops Use Stingray to Intercept Protester’s Conversations, Leaked Audio Reveals

An audio recording leaked by the hacktivist group Anonymous appears to prove that Chicago police used an IMSI catcher, commonly referred to as a Stingray, to intercept phone calls during an Eric Garner protest Thursday evening.

IMSI catchers, small devices that mimic cell phone towers, give police and government agencies the ability to capture people’s cellular data in real-time. The audio, posted to the official Anonymous Twitter account Friday, reveals a conversation between the CPIC, Chicago’s Homeland Security-run Fusion Center, and a police officer spying on an alleged protest leader.

If confirmed, the revelation once again shatters claims by police departments that Stingrays are only used to stop the most heinous of crimes.

Wall Street Moves to Put Taxpayers on the Hook for Derivatives Trades

Wall Street lobbyists are trying to secure taxpayer backing for many derivatives trades as part of budget talks to avert a government shutdown.

According to multiple Democratic sources, banks are pushing hard to include the controversial provision in funding legislation that would keep the government operating after Dec. 11. Top negotiators in the House are taking the derivatives provision seriously, and may include it in the final bill, the sources said.

The bank perks are not a traditional budget item. They would allow financial institutions to trade certain financial derivatives from subsidiaries that are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. — potentially putting taxpayers on the hook for losses caused by the risky contracts. Big Wall Street banks had typically traded derivatives from these FDIC-backed units, but the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial reform law required them to move many of the transactions to other subsidiaries that are not insured by taxpayers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF there was ever a time to call Rivero's Rangers to keyboards, it is now.

Write/email/fax/phone your Congressional Representative and let them know that IF this bill is passed in this form, that you would rather have a goat, or a dog represent you, than this current cache of purchased weasels who allegedly represent you now.

And please remember: Congress no longer represents We the People; they represent Those, the Corporations. We the People have become irrelevant and expendable. That is why these idiots in Congress believe that they can get away with this crud.

Then, be pro-active. Do not have any more money in your bank than you need for paying bills. In fact, and even though it is more expensive, pay your bills with money orders if possible. There are many businesses which will still take cash, and it has not yet been made illegal to do so.

Make sure you have small amounts of gold and silver for barter. Because if Congress is about to pass legislation like this, the excrement is very near to hitting the ventilation shaft, and I mean really, really soon.

Marines to train in Los Angeles for urban combat

Dozens of Marines will be raiding buildings and shooting paintballs at each other in downtown Los Angeles to prepare troops for urban combat.

Capt. Brian Block said Thursday that the raids at several undisclosed locations in the city will be off limits to the public.

Block says the trainings are part of a two-week military exercise that starts Friday and involves about 2,400 Marines and Sailors from the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

He says the Los Angeles portion will take place over a couple of days next week. The other exercises will take place at military bases in California, at a site outside Las Vegas and at an undisclosed location in Arizona.

New G20 Rules: Cyprus-style Bail-ins to Hit Depositors AND Pensioners

On the weekend of November 16th, the G20 leaders whisked into Brisbane, posed for their photo ops, approved some proposals, made a show of roundly disapproving of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and whisked out again. It was all so fast, they may not have known what they were endorsing when they rubber-stamped the Financial Stability Board’s “Adequacy of Loss-Absorbing Capacity of Global Systemically Important Banks in Resolution,” which completely changes the rules of banking.

Russell Napier, writing in ZeroHedge, called it “the day money died.” In any case, it may have been the day deposits died as money. Unlike coins and paper bills, which cannot be written down or given a “haircut,” says Napier, deposits are now “just part of commercial banks’ capital structure.” That means they can be “bailed in” or confiscated to save the megabanks from derivative bets gone wrong.

“Hell No”: Garner’s Wife Won’t Forgive as Protests Mount Over Choking Death

Ultimately, the rather clear case of excessive force and abuse of power by police – who were after Garner on a tax matter – will be mixed up in the larger national wave of increasingly racially divided politics.

The controversial decision comes only a week after the grand jury decision in the Michael Brown case, which led to riots, outrage and a media storm in Ferguson and beyond. However, the Brown case was much less clear cut, while video makes clear that Eric Garner was a victim who didn’t not deserve death. He did not resist arrest, and his alleged crime was too petty to cost him his life:

Grand Jury Declines to Indict NYPD Officer in Eric Garner Chokehold Death: Sources

A New York City grand jury has declined to indict an NYPD officer in the chokehold case of Eric Garner, the unarmed man who died while being arrested on Staten Island earlier this year, multiple sources familiar with the decision tell NBC 4 New York.

In opting not to indict, the panel determined there was not probable cause that a crime was committed by NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo, who was seen on a widely watched amateur video wrapping his arm around Garner's neck as Garner yelled, "I can't breathe!" during the July 17 confrontation. Garner, who had been stopped by Pantaleo and several other NYPD officers, including two sergeants, on suspicion of selling loose, untaxed cigarettes, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Marijuana’s Long Term Effects On The Brain Finally Revealed!

With a drug war against marijuana still raging in more countries than not, the question of how long-term marijuana use effects the human brain is a pivotal question in its legalization. Although alcohol remains legal despite heaps of evidence to the dangers of long-term use, the fight to make marijuana available both with regard to its medical properties (especially in selectively killing cancer cells) and non-medical uses has frequently hinged on the various claims made about marijuana’s effects on the recreational user.

Webmaster's Commentary:

An Egyptian court on Tuesday referred 188 defendants – most of whom are supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi – to the grand mufti, Egypt's top religious authority, to consider possible death sentences over their alleged involvement in the storming of a police station in Kerdasa town and killing 11 policemen, a judicial source said.

ObamaCare incentivizes hiring amnestied illegals to the tune of $3000 each

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about ObamaCare - aside from the fact that it’s an abject disaster in terms of meeting its stated goals - it’s that the unintended consequences of its passage just keep piling up. Sure, conservatives warned of the chaos that would stem from the Dems’ “signature legislation,” but even those of us who were sounding the alarm are amazed at how it keeps managing to fail in new, exciting, ways.

Today we’re learning that the law actually incentivizes corporations to hire the millions of illegals who are currently enjoying Obama’s unconstitutional amnesty order - instead of hiring actual, legal, U.S. citizens. In fact, under the ACA, companies who hire an amnestied illegal can dodge a $3,000 penalty that they would have had to pay if they’d hired a citizen.

Five complete lies about America’s new $18 trillion debt level

There’s so much misinformation and propaganda about this; let’s examine some of the biggest lies out there about the US debt:

1) “They can get it under control.”

What a massive lie. Politicians have been saying for decades that they’re going to cut spending and get the debt under control.

FACT: The last time the US debt actually decreased from one fiscal year to the next was back in 1957 during the EISENHOWER administration.

FACT: For the last several years, the US government has been spending roughly 90% of its ENTIRE tax revenue just to pay for mandatory entitlement programs and interest on the debt.

This leaves almost nothing for practically everything else we think of as government.

Cops Work for Corporate America as Oppressive Mercenaries for the 1% Says Retired Police Captain

Retired Philadelphia Police Captain, Ray Lewis, has a message for America. In a recent interview, Lewis makes it known that gone are the days of the police working for the people.

According to Lewis,

“It’s an oppressive organization now controlled by the one percent of corporate America. Corporate America is using police forces as their mercenaries.”

Lewis gained notoriety when he crossed the blue line and came out to demonstrate in full uniform at the Occupy Wall St. protests and was arrested along with hundreds of others.

Lewis has called out law enforcement on their overly aggressive tactics saying,

“You should, by law, only use force to protect someone’s life or to protect them from being bodily injured. If you’re not protecting somebody’s life or protecting them from bodily injury, there’s no need to use force.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

While I understand completely what this man is saying, the situation in Ferguson, with the ruling which absolved the police officer of murder, has been made deliberately...murky, and appears to be very politically motivated.

I have noticed a number of people not actually from Ferguson, who are demonstrating, are getting celebrated by the media, and appear to hope to get national riots going in other flashpoint cities, like Detroit or Chicago, where many innocent minorities are literally afraid to go out, because they may be racially profiled, or have to contend with with police brutality.

The problems in Ferguson are, unfortunately, not unique to Ferguson, and are American problems, which can only be resolved by people coming together peacefully, and working things out between leaders in the general community, and leaders in the police department.

But, one has to think: cui bono?!? Who benefits from national riots which only the American military can put down, and with extreme prejudice?!?

I have a suggestion of who thinks he will benefit from such actions: Our "El Supremo Decider", Obama, who at that point, could suspend the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and mandate martial law.

And, please, don't for a moment think he would not LOVE to silence his critics by doing this; there is an underground stream of viciousness and retribution in this man's soul which runs deep, and knows no bounds, except where the rule of law constrains him.

He cannot abide even the slightest of criticisms, and refuses all responsibility when he has been in horrific errors of judgement.

I mean, using an Executive Order to do an end run around Congress on immigration?!? Through that action, Obama has declared that his only emotion for the laws of this land are those of complete contempt.

In the six months since Thailand's military coup, the United States has exported tens of millions of dollars' worth of military equipment to the unelected government there

In the six months since Thailand's military coup, the United States has exported tens of millions of dollars' worth of military equipment to the unelected government there. This finding is based on a new analysis of US Census Bureau export data conducted by Truthout.

The records, which run through September, show that since the May 22, 2014, coup, the United States has delivered $11 million in parts for military aircraft, more than $1 million in parts for guided missiles and three UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters worth more than $40 million.

The Thai military government, which calls itself the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), has mandated widespread censorship on television, radio, in print and in social media. It has also outlawed criticism of the military authorities, as well as gatherings of more than five people.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And just WHY would the US government support a military dictatorship in Thailand?!? For the same bloody reasons it supports such governments all over the world: stability (at the cost of democracy) and US profits.

Please remember the following, as reported in an article published by Mount Holyoke College:

"The Department of Labor indicates that 50% of garment factories in the U.S. violate two or more basic labor laws, establishing them as sweatshops. Sweatshops exist wherever there is an opportunity to exploit workers who lack the knowledge and resources to stand up for themselves. Typical sweatshop employees, ninety percent of whom are women, are young and uneducated. Many of them are recent or undocumented immigrants who are unaware of their legal rights. Young women throughout the world are subject to horrible working conditions and innumerable injustices because corporations, many of which are U.S.-owned, can get away with it."

And as reported at globalethicsnetwork.org last May:

One of the biggest hallmarks of sweatshop labor is that the workers are simply underpaid, especially considering the kinds of working conditions they endure. Minimum wage levels in countries such as Thailand, the Philippines, and China, are significantly lower than that of the United States. The federal minimum wage per hour in the United States is currently at 7.25 dollars, while it is 1.48 dollars in Thailand, 69 cents in the Philippines, and 67 cents in China. However, workers are frequently paid less than these estimates suggest—amounts barely enough to survive on even considering the lower cost of living in these regions.

And ladies, BEFORE you buy any kind of a garment from the after Christmas sales, please look at the tag, and note the country of origin.

Because if we can, finally, buy "fair trade organic coffee", where the people who nurture the plants to maturity and harvest, get some more money for their labor, we should be able to buy "fair trade garments", where the people who do the hardest labor get reasonably rewarded.

Zionism And ISIS: Opposing Forces Or Two Sides Of The Same Coin?

Over the past decade, the Middle East — the cradle of civilization and the birthplace of the three major monotheistic religions — has become a flashpoint for religious extremism and fascism. The general public has grown used to associating radicalism with Islam, even to such an extent that the general notion is that the Islamic faith is the expression of religious extremism par excellence.

Yet such assessments have generally failed to take into account an equally dangerous radical trend that has been unfolding in the region for decades — Zionism.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I remember, as a kid, watching Khrushchev at the UN, banging his shoe on the table, and the translation of what he was saying was given as, "We will bury you!", which was construed by the "translator" as a threat against the US.

Of course, that was a complete mistranslation, and misrepresentation of what the man actually said. The real translation was "You will bury yourselves."

I think of those Jews, many of whom had escaped death during the Holocaust, who founded Israel.

And I have to wonder: is what Israel has become what they really wanted to see evolve?!?

A viciously apartheid, xenophobic culture, hating Muslim Arabs so intensely that many in government and Jewish faith communities have, sometimes very publicly, advocated their own, "Final Solution" to "The Arab Problem"?!?

There is a term in psychology called "enabling". It is when someone encourages someone else to do something that is bad and risky for that person, but -for their own reasons - continues to encourage this bad behaviour.

When one nation enables another nation's bad behaviour on the world stage, as the US does with Israel, the ultimate outcome cannot be good. And the US has done absolutely nothing to ameliorate the Israeli government's continuous onslaught against the Palestinians. Please note the following, from the Latimes.com, published on 24 July, 2014:

It was supposed to be a place of refuge from a devastating war. Hundreds of people were crammed into a United Nations-run elementary school in the northern Gaza Strip on Thursday when the converted shelter was hit by a series of explosions. At least 15 people were killed and more than 120 injured, according to local health officials. Survivors said they had packed their belongings and were gathered in the schoolyard awaiting evacuation when the shells hit. But the circumstances remained murky late in the day. The U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees said it had asked the Israeli liaison office repeatedly for a window of time in which to evacuate the staff and displaced people who wanted to leave the school. “We got no answer,” said Adnan abu Hasna, a spokesman for the U.N. Relief and Works Agency, or UNRWA. Survivors said they were waiting to leave when the shells hit.

These actions, coupled with brisk annexations of territories in which Palestinians have lived for generations; the routine torture of prisoners, including children;the daily killing of Palestinians in peaceful protest all lead to one inevitable conclusion: that Israel, as a country, is hell-bent on a complete genocide of all Palestinians, and a complete reconquering of the land, to, at last, create "Eretz Israel", or "Greater Israel."

I would strongly caution both the Israeli government, and certain religious leaders to be very, very careful about what they wish for here.

A physical victory in this regard may well lead to a moral, and spiritual curse upon this nation so intense that it can never, ever be unbroken.

Breastfed, Homebirthed Babies Taken Away From Parents For Not Using Hospital

All three of their babies have been taken away from them and placed in the care of strangers. Levi was 10 months old when his mother, local singer and songwriter Erica May Rengo, gave birth to his twin brother and sister, at their home in Bellingham, Washington.

“Our birth was glorious,” she said, and the twins were reportedly healthy, full-term babies, who had no problem quickly figuring out how to breastfeed. The little family was overjoyed until CPS stepped in to “help.”

It is another medical kidnapping according to the parents. The Rengos have chosen a wholesome, holistic lifestyle, based in their Christian faith. But CPS has stepped in to override the parents’ decisions. Now Erica and Cleave are living what they call a nightmare, separated from their children for reasons that don’t make any sense at all to them.

Elonis, who's from Bethlehem, Pa., was convicted of violating a federal law that makes it a crime to threaten another person.

The Day Freedom Ends

In 1776, the Americans had a wonderful new idea for a republic in which each state (a common word for “country” in those days) would exist independently of the others, whilst a federal government would be in place to provide a few additional services, such as the creation of a common currency and joint protection from foreign invasion.

Unfortunately, those who sought to be all powerful were at work almost immediately, hoping to increase the power of the federal government to the point that the United States would be run as a conglomerate. By 1860, this had already reached the stage that the president denied the right of states to leave the Union.

Big Banks: What Happens When Customers Cease to Believe?

To try to understand the current controversy over bank supervision is quite impossible if one insists on treating it as a domestic issue. All central bank policies these days are apparently coordinated by the Bank for International Settlements (and London as well) and the system will protect its own.

Not only will it protect its own, it will create conditions for the continued expansion and consolidation of big money center banks. It will drive this expansion by ensuring these banks are "too big to fail" and thus receive the funds they need to stay in business no matter what.

All of these manipulations are generated to expand and consolidate the banking/financial sector. And what is more disheartening is that banks – despite the meme of their necessity – are in the larger sense simply glorified bookkeeping shops.

Whereas the hundreds of cases of egregious police brutality directed against people of all colors every year are routinely ignored or forgotten by the mainstream media and political leaders, the race baiters only ever direct African-Americans to get excited about ambiguous or outright justifiable cases like Trayvon Martin or Michael Brown.

This is the one true narrative that the mainstream media won’t tell you about in advance of expected further unrest in Ferguson and other major American cities in the days and weeks to follow.
