Obama’s Rogue Agenda

snip: Obama is thirdworldizing America. He’s banana republicanizing it. He’s turning it into a dystopian backwater. A race to the bottom reflects official policy.

Administration policy prioritizes wealth, power and privileged interests. It lets vital popular needs go begging. Obama’s operated this way throughout his tenure.

He consigned growing millions to poverty, unemployment, underemployment, hunger, homelessness and despair. He’s got more human wrecking in mind.

He wants US resources used for militarism, warmaking, and homeland repression. He wants ordinary people left high and dry.

US Targeting Hundreds of Millions of Russian Civilians

White House officials are openly expressing happiness with their siege/war tactics that they say are throwing Russia into an economic collapse and are, as a scholar defending the siege notes, “hurting the Russian public’s ability to buy food or heat homes”. This eagerness to starve and freeze children is particularly relevant given the recent publicity of the US’s tactics of starving and freezing innocent detainees as well as people claimed to be “suspects”.

U.S. Declares (Currency) War On Russia

U.S. economic terrorism (i.e. the One Bank’s economic terrorism) has hit a new extreme this week. This crime syndicate has launched what can be termed nothing less than an all-out effort to destroy the economy of Russia.

Its modus operandi is, once again, currency manipulation. What is the quickest/easiest way to destroy an economy? Drive the value of its currency as close to zero as possible. The effect of such a manipulated “devaluation” is a massive explosion in inflation. And the effect of that is to make all Russians much poorer.

The economic destruction caused by this economic terrorism affects Russians, and the Russian economy on a percentage-for-percentage basis. Each percentage lower that the banksters drive the ruble with their criminal manipulation makes Russians, and the Russian economy 1% poorer.

Leave Us All Alone! We Can’t Breathe!

Is the solution better soldiers and better cops? Better training? More secrecy? More efficient chokeholds?

No, the solution is to dismantle all the destructive policies both here and abroad that serve as the justification for soldiers and law-enforcement personnel to harass people, eat out their substance, abuse them, torture them, and kill them. The solution is to dismantle the entire welfare-state, warfare-state way of life that is alien to our heritage of liberty. When that happens, we won’t need so many soldiers or cops.

U.S. TV Provides Ample Platform for American Torturers, But None to Their Victims By Glenn Greenwald

snip: Whenever America is forced to confront its heinous acts, the central strategy is to disappear the victims, render them invisible. That’s what robs them of their humanity: it’s the process of dehumanization. That, in turns, is what enables American elites first to support atrocities, and then, when forced to reckon with them, tell themselves that - despite some isolated and well-intentioned bad acts – they are still really good, elevated, noble, admirable people. It’s hardly surprising, then, that a Washington Post/ABC News poll released this morning found that a large majority of Americans believe torture is justified even when you call it “torture.” Not having to think about actual human victims makes it easy to justify any sort of crime.

So one can criticize the embrace of euphemism to describe torture, or argue why waterboarding is torture, or shout loudly why the redacted portion of the SSCI’s Executive Summary of their years-long investigation should be released, but evidently it is not reasonable, that is, establishment-sanctioned via the New York Times or other media or political authority, to bring up torture beyond the terms already established.

flashback: MIT to Pay Victims $1.85 Million in Fernald Radiation Settlement

Wednesday, January 7, 1998
MIT and Quaker Oats Co. agreed last week to pay $1.85 million to children at the Walter E. Fernald State School who were subjects of nutrition studies during the 1940s and 1950s as part of an out of court settlement. The students were fed breakfast cereals laced with minute amounts of radioactive iron and calcium tracers. Children were encouraged to take part in the testing with promises of gifts or trips to Red Sox games.

Fernald had been officially designated as a school for retarded children, although some of the residents at the time of the experiment were not retarded.

Following the declassification of federal records on post-war radiation experiments in 1993, a state task force investigating postwar radiation experiments throughout Massachusetts found children at Fernald were used in experiments without the informed consent of parents. A class action suit against MIT and Quaker Oats was filed by former students in December 1995.

Sony leaks reveal Hollywood is trying to break DNS, the backbone of the internet

Most anti-piracy tools take one of two paths: they either target the server that's sharing the files (pulling videos off YouTube or taking down sites like The Pirate Bay) or they make it harder to find (delisting offshore sites that share infringing content). But leaked documents reveal a frightening line of attack that's currently being considered by the MPAA: What if you simply erased any record that the site was there in the first place?

To do that, the MPAA's lawyers would target the Domain Name System (DNS) that directs traffic across the internet. The tactic was first proposed as part of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in 2011, but three years after the law failed in Congress, the MPAA has been looking for legal justification for the practice in existing law and working with ISPs like Comcast to examine how a system might work technically.

Believe It Or Not, Something Good In Cromnibus Bill- It took One Woman Senator To Get Something Done In A Chamber Full Of Pansies

Just in case you thought there was no silver lining to the latest budget atrocity, two new burdensome rules that truckers were forced to abide by since 2013 were revoked as a result of the latest bill passed by Congress. Technically what passed was called the Collins Amendment, which was included in the 1,603-page 'Cromnibus' spending bill. I will explain in layman's terms how these two bureaucratic 'rest rules' affected truckers.

This past Summer, Whoopie Goldberg even weighed in against the Collins Amendment because the leftie-statist actress thought that repealing the two rules would roll-back safety provisions. But Senator Susan Collins, who authored the provision, noted that even the FMCSA Administrator admitted that the 2013 rules "did not address the safety and congestion impacts of large trucks being forced onto highways during daytime rush hours, when children are on their way to school."

snip: Tantaros’s rant did have the feel of a Saturday Night Live satire, but her upbeat jingoism was only a slight exaggeration of what Americans have been hearing from much of their media and politicians for decades. At least since the presidency of Ronald Reagan, any substantive criticism of the United States has been treated as unpatriotic. Indeed, a journalist or a politician who dares point out any fundamental flaws in the country or even its actual history can expect to have his or her patriotism challenged. Government Prosecutors Fear Liberty and Jury Nullification

I thought you’d be interested to know that the government has asked the judge to limit the defense by not allowing any of Ross’ political or philosophical beliefs to be introduced to the jury as they might influence the jury in his favor. The prosecution goes so far as to say that they fear that exposing the jury to his political thought could invite a jury nullification verdict.

The government obviously doesn’t want this trial to become about internet freedom, the drug war, or liberty. But these crucial issues are on trial along with Ross. This trial is poised to be the most important of 2015 in the fight for freedom. Obviously the government thinks so. They are doing their best to smear Ross and obstruct his defense.

I’m attaching an excerpt (bolds and highlights mine) from the prosecution’s motions illustrating what I’m saying. If you want the original document, just let me know.

This outrage needs to become known, so please spread the word!

`Christopher Bollyn: Why Solving 9-11 is Our Most Urgent Task

One sure way to get a grasp of our political predicament is to logically analyze what the political leadership has done – and what it has failed to do – about the terror atrocity of 9-11.

Since September 11, 2001, four successive administrations and fourteen Sessions of Congress have utterly failed to conduct a proper criminal investigation of 9-11, a criminal atrocity that profoundly affected the course of the nation. Rather than investigate the mass murder of 3,000 people on 9-11, successive U.S. administrations have engaged in a criminal deception, using lies to take us into foreign wars while imposing police state measures at home.

The government’s egregious failure to conduct a proper criminal investigation into the events of 9-11 is exactly like the failure by the newly-installed president, Lyndon B. Johnson, to investigate the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. In both cases, rather than conducting proper criminal investigations, the government appointed commissions that produced seriously flawed reports that were simply meant to support the official, but false, version of events.

Cops caught on film threatening weeping girlfriend of man they had just mistakenly shot dead in Walmart for holding a BB gun

Footage has emerged of police in Ohio aggressively questioning the girlfriend of a man who they had just shot dead for holding a BB gun in a Walmart store.

An officer from the Beavercreek department repeatedly demands to know where the slain John Crawford III, 22, got his 'gun' from in an interview with his weeping girlfriend, Tasha Thomas.

Thomas, who is not told until the end of the interview that her loved one has died, is clearly distressed by the line of question from the disbelieving officer, Rodney Curd, who repeatedly suggests she is lying.

Meet Rep. Mike Honda, The Piece Of Work Who Wants To Put You In Prison For Ten Years For Having Body Armor

In between calling for an end to 'the discriminatory ban on bisexual blood donors' and condemning the Israeli boycott, Mike Honda wants to put you in prison for ten years for having body armor. He demands school libraries remove all online filters of Bi-sexual & Transgender websites, so that schoolchildren can access them.
He introduced a 'Homemade Firearms Accountability Act' to 'respond to the growing black market for homemade firearms' and is freaked out about 'the emergence of additive manufacturing (3D printing) to produce firearms.' His 'Climate Change Education Act' seeks to" broaden the understanding of human-induced climate change." Honda, imprisoned in a Japanese internment camp during WWII, supports all kind of hate crime laws and he even wrote an open letter to Rand Paul praising Obama's executive orders. This article will introduce you to this real piece of work, since you've probably never heard of him.

The NSA wrote turkey-day talking points, because of course it did

Thanksgiving can be a touchy time for families with divergent politics. If not Obamacare, it's a good bet that somebody, somewhere was facing off with an aunt or uncle about the NSA.

Defenders of the spy agency might have found this set of talking points helpful. Distributed internally by the NSA the week before Thanksgiving and reported earlier today by Firedoglake, the two-pager — a literal set of bullet points — armed employees with verbal ammunition that they were encouraged to share "with family and close friends."

Boston Bombing: Feds Admit No Evidence Tsarnaev Brothers Involved in the Slayings

For nearly any crime requiring a “Whodunnit” answer in Boston around the time of the April 15, 2013, Marathon bombing, the authorities answered: The Tsarnaev brothers.

One egregious crime pinned on them was a grisly Sept. 11, 2011, triple murder in Waltham, Mass.

Now, prosecutors in the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev have delivered a shocking reversal. They admit to having no evidence that his dead brother, Tamerlan, was involved in the slayings.

That wasn’t the case right after the bombing: law enforcement fingered Tamerlan as the perpetrator, and suggested Dzokhar may have been involved. Much of the media has presented it as fact ever since.

This is a pattern we’ve seen since the bombing: The government feeds prejudicial information (usually anonymously) to the press, implying Tamerlan and Dzhokhar’s guilt, despite having flimsy or no evidence. In the most extreme example, prosecutors had to completely recant their accusation thatthe brothers robbed a 7-Eleven.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The FBI was trying to coerce Ibragim Todashev into saying that the Tsarnaev brothers were the killers in the triple murder, but apparently Ibragim resisted to the point where he was shot several times by one of the FBI agents, including a kill shot to the top of his head. The FBI agent has never been charged with the murder, carried out while trying to frame someone else for a murder.

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO): Profit, Power and Geopolitics

The fact is that GMO technology would still be owned and controlled by certain very powerful interests. In their hands, this technology is first and foremost an instrument of corporate power, a tool to ensure profit. Beyond that, it is intended to serve US global geopolitical interests. Indeed, agriculture has for a long time been central to US foreign policy.

“American foreign policy has almost always been based on agricultural exports, not on industrial exports as people might think. It’s by agriculture and control of the food supply that American diplomacy has been able to control most of the Third World. The World Bank’s geopolitical lending strategy has been to turn countries into food deficit areas by convincing them to grow cash crops – plantation export crops – not to feed themselves with their own food crops.” Professor Michael Hudson [3].

The Project for a New American Century and the Wolfowitz Doctrine show that US foreign policy is about power, control and ensuring global supremacy at any cost [4,5]. Part of the plan for attaining world domination rests on the US controlling agriculture and hijacking food sovereignty and nations’ food security.

How Congress Secretly Just Legitimized Questionable NSA Mass Surveillance Tool

We recently noted that, despite it passing overwhelmingly, Congress quietly deleted a key bit of NSA reform that would have blocked the agency from using backdoors for surveillance. But this week something even more nefarious happened, and it likely would have gone almost entirely unnoticed if Rep. Justin Amash's staffers hadn't caught the details of a new provision quietly slipped into the Intelligence Authorization Act, which effectively "legitimized" the way the NSA conducts most of its mass surveillance.

Congress approves plan to allow pension cuts

More than a million retired and current truck drivers, construction workers and other union workers could see their pension benefits cut now that Congress passed a proposal aimed at shoring up some of the nation's biggest pensions.

Tacked on as an amendment to the government's $1.1 trillion spending bill, the proposal was approved by the Senate late Saturday night.

US isolated, BRICS to get greater voting power at IMF

Months after the formation of new financial institutions like the $100 billion BRICS Bank and the China-led Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank, Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), said Friday that the organization is ready to discuss IMF voting reforms without the United States to give BRICS and emerging countries greater voting power.

Lagarde said the IMF is disappointed with the US inaction to ratify the governance and quota reforms and will now move forward without Washington.

“The IMF’s membership has been calling on and was expecting the United States to approve the IMF’s 2010 Quota and Governance Reforms by year-end. Adoption of the reforms remains critical to strengthen the Fund’s credibility, legitimacy, and effectiveness, and to ensure it has sufficient permanent resources to meet its members’needs,” Lagarde said in a statement.

The Global Bankers’ Coup Coming to US with Bail-In Bill

On December 11, 2014, the US House passed a bill repealing the Dodd-Frank requirement that risky derivatives be pushed into big-bank subsidiaries, leaving our deposits and pensions exposed to massive derivatives losses. The bill was vigorously challenged by Senator Elizabeth Warren; but the tide turned when Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorganChase, stepped into the ring. Perhaps what prompted his intervention was the unanticipated $40 drop in the price of oil. As financial blogger Michael Snyder points out, that drop could trigger a derivatives payout that could bankrupt the biggest banks. And if the G20’s new “bail-in” rules are formalized, depositors and pensioners could be on the hook.

10 George Orwell Quotes That Predicted Life In 2014 America

1) “In our age there is no such thing as ‘keeping out of politics.’ All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia.” Though many in the modern age have the will to bury their head in the sand when it comes to political matters, nobody can only concern themselves with the proverbial pebble in their shoe. If one is successful in avoiding politics, at some point the effects of the political decisions they abstained from participating in will reach their front door. More often than not, by that time the person has already lost whatever whisper of a voice the government has allowed them.

CHP: "Military Personnel Easily Fit Into The CHP's Workforce And Adapt Well To Our Paramilitary Work Environment"

The California Highway Patrol website has a special military recruiting page which states "Former military personnel easily fit into the CHP's workforce and adapt well to our paramilitary work environment" and that applicants can "use 'military skills' to 'promote through the CHP's ranks.'

Another page on their site admits "The California Highway Patrol is often described as a "paramilitary" department, and that is true."
In the wake of CHP recently caught on video beating elderly grandmothers and pointing guns at protesters, perhaps this mentality of a 'CHP PARAMILITARY FORCE' ought to be examined.

Time for a Police Offenders Registry: A police job is a privilege, not a right

Police unions that push for permissive rules that end up protecting bad cops pose a serious public safety threat. Nevertheless, dismantling them where they've taken root is a difficult prospect even in the long-term. There are other ways to keep bad cops off the streets. The federal government, and state governments, ought to create and encourage the use of a police offender registry list. Such a list would register individuals who while employed as law enforcement officers were found unfit for duty or faced serious disciplinary issues they may have resigned to avoid. Just as

Argentina, a brief summary:

until 1950, Argentina was 5th power on this planet. Everything worked perfect, there was infrastructure, and raw materials to feed the planet. With 1.5 metres top-soil average in the Pampa region, this is the most fertile and commercially viable place on the planet.
It was a paradise, and lots of fortunes were made there.

Enter WW2. In 1948, Argentina hadn't declared war on Germany yet. Why ? well, cuz they knew who was behind it. That is right, the Rothschild banksters, who had bankrolled Hitler.
So, the "World Bank" (now IMF) set up a blockade of Argentina. No more beef exports, no more Sorgum/Wheat/Corn/Milk exports.
After 2 years, the "World Bank" gave Argentina an ultimatum: either you install our puppet as a "democratic" ruler (Peron), and get rid of the Military gob-our-mint (until then not called a Junta).

Betrayal? Majority of GOP Senators oppose calling Obama amnesty unconstitutional

While the Republicans are getting ready to take control of the of the U.S. Senate in just a few weeks, Americans witnessed a preview on Saturday of what can be expected in 2015 from a GOP majority in both houses of the U.S. Congress. When Sen. Now put Blair and Straw on trial for torture, says Craig Murray, diplomat fired for reporting toture.

By Craig Murray, Former British Ambassador To Uzbekistan

In the summer of 2004, I warned Tony Blair’s Foreign Office that Britain was using intelligence material which had been obtained by the CIA under torture. Two months later I was sacked as the British Ambassador to Uzbekistan on the orders of Downing Street, bringing to an end my 20-year diplomatic career.

When I then went public with the news that Uzbek territory was part of a global CIA torture programme, I was dismissed as a fantasist by Mr Blair’s henchmen. Now finally, a decade later, I have been vindicated by last week’s shocking Senate Intelligence Committee report.

Over 500 pages it details the CIA’s brutal abuse of Al Qaeda suspects, who were flown around the world to be tortured in a network of secret prisons. One of these was in Uzbekistan, where the US had an air base.

US to give Israel $350mn for Iron Dome

The US Senate has approved a multi-billion-dollar military spending bill that includes $350 million for Israel’s Iron Dome missile system.

The Senate passed the bill on Friday by a 89-11 vote.

The bill was sent to the White House for President Barack Obama's signature.

The 2015 defense authorization bill also authorized $521.3 billion for Defense Department operations, and about $64 billion for overseas military operations.

The House of Representatives last week approved the National Defense Authorization Act by a 300-119 vote.

Five billion dollars are allocated for the fight against the ISIL terrorist group. The money should be spent for the training and arming of the so-called moderate rebels in Syria for two years and for the training and assisting of Iraqi and Kurdish forces.

Earlier this month, US Vice President Joe Biden announced that the Obama administration had provided Israel with more than $17 billion in military aid since 2008.

Outsourcing Atrocity: The School of the Americas and the C.O.I.N. Fundamentalists

Since its founding in 1946, the School of the Americas has trained tens of thousands of police and military personnel in Latin America and the Caribbean. Not by coincidence, its graduates were involved in some of the worst atrocities of the 20th century – from filling the ranks of Haiti’s brutal Tonton Macoutes to training the founders of Mexico’s paramilitary narco-cartel Los Zetas. It’s no exaggeration to say that the School of the Americas has painted an entire region in blood.

While the School left a permanent mark on countries throughout the hemisphere, the doctrine it expounded has also metastasized into an intellectual cancer infecting the way NATO countries in the post-Soviet era fight the Wars on Drugs and Terror. This is a story of studied incompetence, torture and murder. And judging by the militarized response of American police departments, from Occupy Wall Street to Ferguson, the trend isn't just going global: it's also coming home.

Obama under fire for castigating Bush-era torture program and claiming moral high ground all while his administration kills 'thousands of innocents' during droning of terrorism suspects

President Barack Obama is under fire this week for the way his White House has excoriated the previous administration for employing tactics it would categorize as torture all the while launching drone strikes on terrorism suspects abroad.

The enhanced interrogation techniques used by the CIA during the George W. Bush administration on 39 detainees resulted in just one death, Obama's critics have pointed out. Drone strikes conducted by the current occupant of the White House have killed more than 2,400 people.

After claiming all week that the release of a Senate Intelligence Committee report detailing the brutal tactics employed by the Bush administration to elicit information from terrorists was necessary in order for the U.S. to reassert it's 'moral authority,' the White House was forced on Friday to state on record that it doesn't believe its drone policy erodes the moral high ground on which it thinks it stands when it comes to human rights.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This man is seriously, and dangerously, out of touch with the carnage his drone strike policy has caused, and the damage it has done to world perception of American jurisprudence.

Torture is absolutely wrong, and the only people who defend it are sick, twisted pieces of work who probably belong in an institution.

But extrajudicial assassinations are completely contrary to both the spirit, and literal interpretations, of the Constitution, and Bill of Rights. They are un-American in the extreme, in a society where presumption of innocence is the basis upon which all suspected criminals are to be judged by a jury of their peers.

It is an interesting psychological insight into our President that this is his preferred method of killing people he deems "dangerous".

Visiting soldier can't stay in wife's Central apartment, landlord says

Chuck my butt! How about Scrooge or Grinch. This really sucks!

CENTRAL, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A soldier returning home for the holidays to see his wife and newborn baby in Central is being kicked out of his wife's apartment after the landlord said he is overstaying the time allowed for visitors.

Sergeant William Bolt is stationed in Missouri, but his wife has been in Central. She gave birth to their daughter two weeks ago.

Bolt said the landlord at The Groves apartment complex in Central told him he had overstayed, saying visitors are not allowed to stay in the apartments past seven days, per the agreement signed by Bolt's wife, Lily.

"I'm stationed in Missouri and we haven't seen each other in six months. What's the problem with me staying and visiting with my wife?" Bolt said.

The landlord, whose name is Chuck, told FOX Carolina he enforces that rule for all his tenants.

Bhopal: A metaphor

snip: Bhopal gas tragedy was a political, economic, legal watershed for India and the planet. It was a toxic tragedy at two levels the leakage of a toxic gas from a plant producing toxic pesticides, the continued presence of 350 metric tonnes of hazardous toxic waste from the now-defunct Union Carbide India Ltd’s plant in Bhopal, combined with a toxic influence of corporations on courts and successive governments. Legally, Union Carbide and the US courts escaped liability and responsibility for the damage, setting a precedent of governments shrugging their duty to protect their citizens, taking away citizens’ rights and sovereignty in order to make settlements with corporations, letting them off lightly.

Ray McGovern: What’s the Next Step to Stop Torture?

snip: Yet, the trouble with Cheney’s defense is that one can no more “authorize” torture than rape or slavery. Torture inhabits that same moral category, which ethicists label intrinsic evil, always wrong – whether it “works” or not.

In other words, torture is not wrong because there are U.S. laws and a UN Convention prohibiting it. It’s the other way around. The legal prohibitions were put in place because it is – or used to be, at least – widely recognized that humans simply must not do such things to other humans. For instance, after World War II, Japanese commanders were tried for war crimes because they used waterboarding on captured U.S. soldiers.

Defense Bill Passes, Giving Sacred Native American Sites To Mining Company

The U.S. Senate passed a measure authorizing the nation’s defense programs Friday, and along with it managed to give lands sacred to Native Americans to a foreign company that owns a uranium mine with Iran.

The $585 billion National Defense Authorization Act of 2015 is one of the must-pass pieces of legislation that Congress moves every year. But like they did in attaching extraneous riders to the must-pass government funding bill, lawmakers used the defense bill as a vehicle to pass a massive public lands package.

The bill sailed through on a vote of 89 to 11.

Many of the land measures were popular. But one, the Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act, had twice failed to win support in the House of Representatives, blocked both by conservationists and conservatives.

Webmaster's Commentary:

You've got to wonder how many members of the Senate own shares in this company. Oh, and about the country's "environmental record", if one can call it that?!?!

The following seems to be pretty damned representative of this:

Me’ekamui, the ‘Sacred Island’ of Bougainville is seen by its people as a natural, God-given inheritance to be willfully preserved from generation to generation. These indigenous people flourished here for thousands of years—thriving on the island’s rich resources of rain forested land and teeming rivers. Generations of Bougainvilleans built their culture into a productive self-sufficient economy. Since time immemorial, land on Bougainville has been owned on a clan basis, being passed down from mother to daughter. Land boundaries are well known, and have been respected for thousands of years. According to custom, clans hold the rights to the land, the sky above and the earth below. Disrespecting this longtime custom, corporate greed bloodied the heart and soul of Bougainville with the construction of the Panguana mine. Desperate Survival Once Rio Tinto set foot on their land in 1960, the villagers witnessed almost an immediate sense of loss. Their health, environmental resources and livelihood were forsaken for corporate gain. Almost immediately, the Bougainvilleans fell sick from exposure to the mine’s toxins, chemicals and air pollutants. Upper respiratory infections such as Asthma and TB became more common, and even killed people. Children became ill with coughs, colds and chronic ear infections. Many women even died giving birth, because of the lack of basic medicine and care. As Rio Tinto ravaged the island mining for copper, the company dumped waste rock and tailings, turning the river valleys into a virtual wasteland. Fish and whole forests died, depleting the villagers of their major food source, and eliminating their cash cropping systems. The villagers lost their property due to ongoing environmental contamination. Their water became non-potable, and they were forced to come up with other resources for survival. Unable to live this way, the people pleaded to Rio Tinto to give them control of their own land surrounding the mine. When Rio Tinto ignored their request, the Bougainvilleans united in the name of their culture and fought for their right to their inherent resources. The Bougainvilleans’ fight for their rights left many people dead and many more injured. Three entire principal villages were relocated, and many life-long inhabitants were forced to flee the island. - See more at: http://the-truth-reveal.blogspot.com/2007/09/rio-tinto-environmental-destruction.html#sthash.SNSrWetU.dpuf

And then, there's this lovely little story from Mongolia:

The Network is focusing support in Mongolia, where Rio Tinto has invested billions and mine workers are particularly vulnerable. The company has a US $6 billion investment in the vast Oyu Tolgoi copper and gold mine in the Gobi Desert. Workers there are represented by IndustriALL affiliate the Federation of Energy, Geology and Mining Workers’ Trade Unions of Mongolia (MEGM). Last year, Rio Tinto was condemned by the Supreme Court in Mongolia for wage discrimination against Mongolian nationals and unfair dismissal. The company also faced international criticism for sacking thousands of workers in the country without adequate consultation. ndustriALL assistant general secretary Kemal Özkan says that with the campaign, IndustriALL Global Union aims to build union power at Rio Tinto plants around the world, uniting workers in the struggle for decent work: “Rio Tinto has extensive experience in causing one conflict after another with trade unions, indigenous organizations, environmental groups and other key community stakeholders. Unions and civil society are coming together in an unprecedented way to push back against Rio Tinto for the benefit of workers, the environment and communities.” “For far too long, Rio Tinto has systematically put profits before people, sometimes with fatal consequences like the recent deaths at the Grasberg mine in Papua New Guinea. Workers are saying enough is enough,” says Kemal Özkan. The Network meeting follows a global day of protests on 7 October as as part of IndustriALL’s campaign to demand a new era at Rio Tinto.

More slow genocide for America's First Nations: more profit for a company whose "contributions", most likely, have lead to the electoral success of many of those senators voting for this rider.

On this week's episode of Talking Radical Radio, I talk with Joël Pedneault of the Red Hand Coalition, one of the main province-wide formations opposing austerity measures in Quebec, about the trajectory of resistance to those measures in recent years -- from before and through the student strike that brought down a government, to the lull in the year that followed, and into the resurgence that has just begun as a new Liberal government seeks once again to impose austerity on the province.

The Canadian torture state

Whipping with cables. Prolonged solitary confinement. Other unspeakable acts, committed against citizens with official blessing. Use of "information" gathered by torture considered legitimate.

No, no, I don't mean the Torture Report. I'm talking about Canada.

Let the other sordid drama play itself out in America. We've now learned more about "rectal feeding" (read: medically unjustified anal rape) than we ever wanted to know, and that's just for starters. Did the authorities raid every prison for the criminally insane to swell CIA ranks? Far worse, we're watching a desperate attempt to frame this whole series of vile acts as a period in (recent) history now thankfully ended. Don't you go believing that fairytale, now.

Former Anderson cop sentenced – again – on rape charge

A former Anderson police officer who admitted raping a woman in his custody was sentenced Friday in Sacramento federal court to five years in prison, based on his guilty plea of violating the woman’s civil rights.

Bryan Robert Benson, 30, was originally charged in 2011 in Shasta Superior Court with rape and kidnapping, and would have faced life in prison had he been convicted. Instead, he was sentenced to 364 days in jail after pleading no contest to felony assault by a police officer and to soliciting a lewd act, a misdemeanor.

Shasta County prosecutors said at the time that the outcome was dictated by a loophole in the law that would have allowed Benson’s lawyers to argue the sex was consensual because the woman had not yet been booked into jail.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This loophole in California law should be fixed, and right the hell now.

I don't think I will ever visit California again, if this is the police's interpretation of "to protect and serve", even if I do not indulge in the kinds of activities which got this woman arrested in the first place.

Spain passes tough new 'anti-protest' law

Spain on Thursday finally passed its new controversial Citizen Security Law which opponents say will severely limit civil liberties in the country.

The unpopular law contains retains existing fines of up to €600,000 ($746,000) for unauthorized protests outside buildings "which provide basic services to the community", a definition that encompasses everything from hospitals to universities and the Spanish parliament.

The new law, which the government argues will ensure public security, also forbids the photographing or filming of police officers in situations where doing so could put them in danger. This could result in a fine of up to €30,000. Showing a "lack of respect" to those in uniform, meanwhile, could lead to a fine of €600.

The law has been dubbed the 'ley mordaza' or 'gag law' by opposition groups and the Spanish media, many of whom believe the law will curtail individual rights.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Spain's government appears to be re-embracing its fascist past, just as the US government is embracing its fascist present, and future.

Intelligence bill bolsters warrantless spying on U.S. citizens
