Members of Congress Call for End to Mass Voter Suppression and Insecure Elections

Congressional briefings are typically dull affairs, usually with only a few dozen participants, but it was standing room only in a House Judiciary Committee hearing room on April 21, when nine members of Congress, their staff and 200 activists gathered to address the present crisis in US democracy: voter suppression and the manipulation of US elections.

In 2016 - the first presidential election since the US Supreme Court's gutting of the Voting Rights Act - a slew of new malicious laws and tactics are disenfranchising millions of Americans, even as the private control of US vote-counting technology has come under renewed scrutiny in a primary season marked by allegations of fraud and election rigging.

Bill Nye (not a real “science guy,” FYI), who entertains the idea of throwing climate skeptics in the slammer, warned the film’s producer, Climate Depot publisher Marc Morano, that “Climate Hustle’s” content endangers not just the nation, but also the world:

“I think it will expose your point of view as very much in the minority and very much not in our national interest and the world’s interest.”

Ammon Bundy offered guilty plea if armed Oregon protesters were let go

The leader of the armed group that took over a federal wildlife reserve in Oregon reportedly offered to plead guilty to federal criminal charges if other protesters were let go and relieved of their charges.

According to the Oregonian, federal prosecutors ultimately rejected Ammon Bundy’s offer to plead guilty to a federal conspiracy charge, which was made about three days after he was arrested. Bundy led more than two-dozen armed individuals when they took over the Malhuer National Wildlife Refuge in Burns, Oregon this past January, an occupation that lasted 41 days.

At the time his offer was made, the occupation of the reserve was still ongoing, though 26 others were eventually charged over the incident.

In a court motion seeking to delay filing deadlines in Bundy’s trial, the 40-year-old’s attorney Mike Arnold said Bundy "was willing to sacrifice his broader interests and risk his liberty for his fellow protesters.”

Fracking in the US causing global surge in dangerous gas, study finds

Levels of ethane in the atmosphere had been falling since the 1980s, but in 2010 a sensor in Europe picked up a surprise increase.

The boom of fracking, a controversial process used to recover gas from within shale by fracturing the rocks, in the United States was viewed as the prime suspect.

Now a single oil and gas field in North Dakota and Montana, the Bakken Formation, has been found to be emitting about 250,000 tons of the gas – about two per cent of the total produced worldwide.

TTIP could cause an NHS sell-off and UK Parliament would be powerless to stop it, says leading union

The UK Parliament may not have the power to stop or reverse the privatisation of the NHS if the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership passed at EU level, Unite has warned.

The union cites a letter from Lord Maude of Horsham, the minister for trade and investment, in response to a query from a constituent of Labour MP Jim Fitzpatrick about how TTIP would pass into law in the UK.

In the letter, Lord Maude of Horsham says that the UK Parliament could delay the ratification of the final text of TTIP “indefinitely” by repeatedly voting against it in the House of Commons and the Lords.

Gail Cartmail, Unite assistant general secretary, said that it was “a scandal” that MPs may not have the democratic power to stop TTIP, which she said “threatens the irreversible sell-off of our NHS”.

Damascus views deployment of 150 US troops to Rmeilan air field as aggression

The Syrian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned on Thursday the deployment of 150 US troops to the city of Rmeilan in the northeast of the country.
"This intervention is rejected and illegitimate, it happened without the Syrian government’s approval," the SANA news agency quotes the ministry’s statement as saying.

Webmaster's Commentary:

GEE, YA THINK?!?!?

The serious question which must be asked, is, why is the US government pushing so hard for war against Russia in Syria in an election year?!?

The answer is two-fold. First, the American economy is about to crash into a wall, and the Obama administration wants a war upon which to blame the crash.

The second is, if in fact, Trump does get elected as President, the Democrats want to hand him the ugliest and most unpalatable plate of economic and geopolitical misery they can conjure.

Why Real Reform Is Now Impossible

Central banks have transformed the market–in stocks, bonds, commodities and risk–into the signaling mechanism that tells us all is well. Even though the real-world finances of the bottom 95% continue deteriorating, a rising stock market and suppressed measures of risk signal that the economy is doing well. If you’re not doing well, it’s your personal problem; the status quo is fine and needs only minor tweaks.

Elevating the market into the oracle of economic health creates a systemic risk:If the market tanks, the status quo is called into question. People start asking, is it truly a wonderful arrangement that benefits us all, or is it really just a skimming machine that funnels money and wealth from the many into the voracious maws of the few?

Central banks thwart this existential danger to the status quo by rescuing the market every time it approaches the market clearing event level. (see chart) In a market clearing event, risky loans and bets are liquidated, credit dries up, risk soars and the price of assets falls to levels that once again make fundamental sense.

Russia's foreign minister warns Sweden off Nato

Lavrov said Russia would feel compelled to take action if Nato’s military infrastructure stretched to Sweden.

“It’s every country’s right to decide what form its security should take, but one must understand that if military infrastructure approaches Russia's borders, we would of course have to take the necessary military-technical action. There’s nothing personal in it; it’s just business,” Lavrov told Dagens Nyheter (DN).

When asked what measures Russia was likely to put in place, he said:

“That’s not my job. It’s up to the military, the defence ministry, and the Russian general staff. When they see what potential there is at the other side of the border – right at our border or a little further from our border, then they know what capacity exists there and what can be expected if Nato suddenly decides to stop us in a ‘hot’ way.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

To the Swedish Government: Lavrov is not bluffing, folks. He has weighted his words very carefully, and is talking tough geopolitical cause and effect here.

And to the paper who published this interview on-line; Russia did not "annex' Crimea.

When Yanukoviych got thrown out and under the proverbial bus, during Ukraine's US/ECB/IMF-backed "revolution" Crimea knew it had no legitimate government in Kiev.

It then, in a free and fair referendum, with observers, the Crimean people asked Russia if they could rejoin the Russian Federation, and the Russian Federation accepted that proposal. There was not one bit of force, not one bit of "annexation" by Russia. This was a request by the people of Crimea.

That you seem to be unable to get your facts straight on this issue compromises the integrity of everything Dagens Nyheter publishes, either on line, or on paper, and makes it suspect

Where Are the Other 10 Million Panama Papers?

When I posted my scepticism that we would be given the full truth about the content of the Panama Papers by the mainstream media outlets who were controlling them, it went viral and became the first individual article to be read by half a million people on this blog alone, and a multiple of that as it was posted all round the web, translated into several languages.

I also attracted some derision from establishment propagandists. I had contented that the fact the papers themselves were not made available, but we were rather fed selected information by the western and corporate state media, would limit and slant what the public was told. The initial concentration on Russia, Iran, Syria etc seemed to confirm this. But it was urged that more was to come, and I should wait, and it was suggested I would look foolish when they finished publishing. “Wait and see” tweeted the editor of the lead newspaper, the Suddeutsche Zeitung, in response to my post.

Well I waited, and what happened? The story fizzled out.

White House struggles to explain weak economy as Obama boasts of job growth

The White House labored Thursday to explain a first-quarter economic report showing the weakest growth in two years, even as President Obama was trumpeting his mastery of the economy in a New York Times Magazine interview.

The Department of Commerce reported that U.S. gross domestic product rose 0.5 percent in the first quarter of 2016, the third straight sluggish start to a year. Consumer spending and business purchases both fell, continuing trends that could have ominous implications for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign as she tries to claim the mantle as Mr. Obama’s successor.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The reason Obama can boast about "... his mastery of the economy." is very simple; he is completely delusional, and divorced from what the consequences of his economic, and geopolitical, choices have been for the American people.

Good, hard-working Americans whose middle-class lives had been the result of manufacturing in this country have seen their lives destroyed, courtesy to the ever-growing outsourcing/offshoring of those jobs to the cheapest possible labor pools in the world.

And let's face reality here, folks; at the end of the day, President Obama is no less beholden to his corporate masters than are his Republican colleagues, and that's the truth, period, end of discussion.

Hanford, Not Fukushima, is the Big Radiological Threat to the West Coast

There is a dangerous radiological threat to the West Coast of the United States that puts the health of millions of Americans at risk. It includes dangers to public health, dangers to the food supply, and dangers to future generations from long-lived radionuclides, including some of the most toxic material in the world. It is not Fukushima, it is Hanford. While radiation from the Fukushima nuclear meltdowns is reaching the West Coast, carried across the ocean from Japan, the radiation from Hanford is already there, has been there for 70 years, and is in serious risk of catastrophe that could dwarf the effects of Fukushima even on Japan.

When Google Photos Auto-Generated an Album From My Trip to Palestine and Called It ‘Trip to Israel’

The pictures and videos I captured during my first trip to Palestine in October 2010 came at a cost that included several hours of detention and interrogations at the Tel Aviv airport, courtesy of the fine members of the Israeli military, Shin Bet and the Ministry of the Interior. After a 13-hour international flight, I was held for hours without food or water — and I was forced to use the single-toilet restroom with the door cracked open and a roomful of men on the other side.

And that was just the beginning of incessant stops, searches and other harassment I was subjected to throughout my trip because of the scarf I wear on my head (the non-Muslims in our group did not face the same treatment).

Webmaster's Commentary:

This will not have been the first time in which Google has engaged in blatant pro-Israeli propaganda, and this lady has every reason to feel outraged by this treatment.

I wish her well, and hope she is very much able to get her story out there, as well as the narrative of the Palestinian people.

Obama-Netanyahu Rift Impedes U.S. Offer of Record Aid Deal for Israel

President Obama has proposed granting Israel the largest package of military aid ever provided by the United States to another nation, but he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remain deeply at odds over a figure for the assistance despite months of negotiations.

American officials have balked as their Israeli counterparts insisted on more generous terms for a new 10-year military aid package that could top $40 billion. The divide, which could have broad national security implications for both the United States and Israel, is exacerbated by the pent-up animosity between Mr. Obama and Mr. Netanyahu, which has been stoked by their radically divergent views of the nuclear deal with Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If this is the game Netanyahu is playing, let us hope and pray that the next President is Trump, and absolutely not Clinton.

Also, I would very much like to politely remind the Obama administration that ANY aid to Israel is illegal, because under the Symington Amendment, the US government is not allowed to give any financial or military aid to any country which does NOT sign the NNPT agreement (which Israel has not), and have their nuclear sites inspected (which Israel will not allow).

SWAT RAIDS FAMILY, TERRORIZES DISABLED WOMAN & ARRESTS FAMILY MEMBERS — WHOOPS, WRONG HOUSE

Philadelphia, PA – Police apologized on Wednesday after raiding an innocent family’s home and traumatizing a disabled woman who nearly fell down the stairs. Touted as “innovative” and “state-of-the-art,” the Real Time Crime Center mistakenly directed officers to the wrong house and another botched raid.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, cops suddenly broke down the Jardine family’s door and raided their home while holding them at gunpoint. Despite the fact that the family had committed no crime, officers ordered them out of their rooms and placed them in handcuffs during the middle of the night.

“I’m coming out of the shower, and there’s a Pump Action Rifle to my chest,” Angel Jardine told WPVI. “He’s just like, ‘Put your hands up.’ Rifle in my chest, and I’m like, ‘Whoa.’”

Physically impaired after an ex-boyfriend shot her in the head, forty-eight-year-old Ronik Jardine had been asleep in her bed when the cops woke her up and immediately ordered her out of the room.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Violent home invasions seem to have become a signature activity of many police departments in American urban cities.

Forget the NY Times. Here’s Obama’s Real Legacy.

Yesterday’s New York Times devoted 6,000 words and a main feature to nothing short of an all-out defense of Obama’s economic legacy. In the process, they went full Keynesian.

From the opening paragraph that detailed Obama’s singlehanded efforts to rebuild the U.S. economy following the 2008 financial crisis, it was clear that author Andrew Ross Sorkin is more than simply a member of the lapdog media. Like a true believer, Sorkin bowed down at the altar of Obama’s government.

To hell with the real story behind the data. To hell with any logical thought processes. To hell with the notion that free markets, not governments, produce opportunity and prosperity.

As Sorkin tells it, the U.S. is now quite peachy.

VOLUME COLLAPSES AS CHINA COMMODITY EXCHANGES ORDERED TO "CURB SPECULATION"

We have been warning about China's speculative commodity trading bubble - spewing false signals around the world about the strength of the real economy - and now, as we suggested previously, Chinese authorities have decided to burst yet another bubble they created.Reuters reports that China's Securities regulator has ordered three major commodity exchanges to "control intraday speculation in commodity markets," ordering them to "curb trading for investors with no commodity industry background." Volume has crashed... and just as it did in the equity markets, price will follow.

As Reuters reports, China's securities regulator ordered the country's major commodity futures exchanges this week to control speculative trading activity, sources told Reuters, after a surge in prices sparked fears of a boom-and-bust cycle.

“NESTLÉ IS TRYING TO BREAK US” TOWN FIGHTS TO STOP BOTTLED WATER MEGACORP FROM STEALING THEIR WATER

A small town in Pennsylvania is the latest to be targeted by Nestlé Waters North America, which, in typical fashion, is seeking to extract millions of gallons of freshwater to bottle and sell for an obscene profit — whether or not local residents approve.

Nestlé sneakily began testing waters in the Kunkeltown area as far back as 2012; but residents wouldn’t have discovered the desire for its water at all had the mega-corporation not rented an office in the community center, as Truthout reported. In fact, Nestlé’s plans comprise no small operation, as Truthout explained:

Webmaster's Commentary:

It's not only the obscene profits from these kinds of practices; it is also that the people who live here get absolutely nothing from Nestle's sale of that water.

But that having been said, it appears that the corporate managers of Nestle have the morals of a dead tree stump, and are so collectively crooked that they have to screw their socks on in the morning.

(And I WILL get angry emails from dead tree stumps, protesting that last characterization, I can assure you!!)

Head Of Deutsche Bank "Integrity Committee" Fired Due To "Overzealousness"

Perhaps it is merely a coincidence but just weeks after Deutsche Bank became the first bank to admit to rigging the gold market (and agreeing to rat out fellow manipulators) yesterday afternoon the head of Deutsche Bank's "integrity committee" announced he would resign two years before his time, which is a polite way of saying he was fired.

As the FT reports, Georg Thoma has been fired from Deutsche Bank’s supervisory board two years before his contract ends "after coming under fire from other board members in a battle over how to deal with the German bank’s past scandals."

Webmaster's Commentary:

FRENCH ASSEMBLY ADOPTS RESOLUTION CALLING TO END ANTI-RUSSIAN SANCTIONS IMPOSED BY EU

Fifty-five members of the French National Assembly have supported the resolution calling on the government not to extend the sanctions imposed on Russia by the EU. Forty-four voted against and two abstained. Of the 577 deputies in the National Assembly, the lower house of the French Parliament, 101 took part in the vote.

The resolution, calling on the French government to protest extension of EU sanctions against Russia, was submitted by 85 French MPs.

Thierry Mariani, member of the center-right Republicans party who initiated the parliamentary debate, says the document "calls on the French government not to extend the restrictive measures and economic sanctions imposed on Russia by the European Union."

CDC Admits Flu Shots Fail Half the Time

Americans have never been big fans of flu shots. During the 2009 “swine flu” influenza A pandemic, only about 40 percent of adults bothered to roll up their sleeves. 1 Last year, flu vaccine rates were still just 47 percent for adults but pediatricians had vaccinated 75 percent of children under two years old. 2

Perhaps it is because parents are being thrown out of pediatricians’ offices if they don’t give their children every federally recommended vaccine – or maybe it is just because adults can talk about how they felt after getting vaccinated and infants and children under age two cannot.

sick-young-woman.jpgHow many times has someone told you: “The year I got a flu shot is the only year I got sick” or maybe you learned that the hard way yourself after getting vaccinated.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am not at all an "anti-vaxxer"; when Mike was recovering from mycoplastic pneumonia a couple of years ago, I did take the anti-pneumonia vaccine, Pneumovax, which my sister-in-law, who has an MS in nursing, suggested.

But over-all wellness takes what I would call the "3 legged stool" of nutrition, exercise, and keeping a positive attitude.

Many of these vaccines are questionable at best, and harmful at worst, such as Guardasil, which has had way too many adverse reactions by the young women who have been vaccinated with this product.

Parents, particularly of very young children, don't turn your physician into a living representation of a god just because they wear a white coat; these people are fallible, and only know what they know about the drugs they prescribe from the little circulars they get from the pharmaceutical reps who frequent their offices.

Do your own due diligence on what your kids are given. Demand to read the labels on the inserts which accompany the vaccines your children are to be given, or get the info on line, and make up your own mind as to how safe that drug or vaccine is supposed to be.

STORY ALREADY FALLING APART - Lawsuit Accuses Donald Trump of Raping Teen Girl

Court Decides CIA Officials Accused Of Torture, Experimentation Case Will Proceed

By Brianna Blaschke

For the first time in U.S. history, the CIA and U.S. government will not exercise immunity for war crimes and other atrocities.

Numerous CIA officials are being charged with war crimes against humanity and human experimentation in a court case lawyers are calling “literally unprecedented.”

The case was filed last October by four former detainees, all of whom claimed to be subjected to enhanced interrogation techniques by the CIA. The prisoners were captured and held in the days following the September 11th terrorist attacks...

Trump lawyer calls 'rape' lawsuit a HOAX and says there's no proof accuser exists following allegation a woman was used as a 13-year-old 'sex slave' at billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein's 'sex parties' in 1994

'To be clear, there is absolutely no merit to these claims and, based on our investigation, no evidence that the person who has made these allegations actually exists.'

Radar Online reported Thursday night that Epstein's infamous 'little black book,' a record of his contacts seized by the FBI, doesn't include the name Katie Johnson, casting further doubt on the lawsuit's claims.

Webmaster's Commentary:

When Michelle Fields made her bogus claim that Trump's campaign manager had assaulted her, the internet was quick to track down all the other spurious claims she had made, destroying her story, her credibility, and her career. So, in this latest attempt to smear Trump, it makes sense they would manufacture a fictitious victim, who would be immune to public exposure of a past that simply does not exist.

The Haavara Agreement was an agreement between Nazi Germany and Zionist German Jews signed on 25 August 1933.

The agreement was designed to help facilitate the emigration of German Jews to Palestine.

The Zanco Fly is said to be the world’s smallest mobile phone – with a tiny 0.66 screen.

It’s for this reason that prisoners are buying them from Amazon, and then hiding them inside themselves.

They’re proving pretty popular too, with one review stating that the phone is ‘very small and easy to hide’.

Another simply claims to have ‘put it up my butt with no problem.’

Former prison inmate Carl Cattermole, who created a guide to prison survival at prisonism.co.uk, said that smuggled phones were ‘everywhere’ in prison.

He said: ‘Things like iPhones are rare in prison. Most phones go up a bum at some point or another, so f**k an iPhone 6 Plus, or, rather, don’t.

United Nations DEMANDS U.S. Pay Reparations For Slavery

Webmaster's Commentary:

So ... we all get our money back from the IRS? :)

Actually, this is supposedly reparations for slavery during the antebellum era. So, I'll tell you what. You find someone who actually was a slave back in the antebellum era and I will chip in a couple bucks.

On a more serious note, this reparations nonsense has gone out of control. Here is how it works.

Some greedy group picks an historical event which was legal in its time, then demands that people who had nothing to do with that historical event pay money to another group of people who for the most part are also not part of that historical event.

Israel really got the ball rolling with their demands for holocaust reparations, in which the US pays money to Israel for the Holocaust, even though the US opposed Germany in BIG MISTAKE Number 2. Israel also demands money from Germany (Israel demands money from everyone) but the majority of people in Germany being forced to fork over the cash had not even been born when whatever it is that is supposed to have happened... supposedly happened. Little of the money ever actually reaches those few people who were actually in the German slave labor camps.

Israel has leeched a vast sum of wealth using this scam and it is not surprising that other groups are trying to cash in, such as the descendants of antebellum slaves. The fact that nobody alive today was an antebellum slave or an antebellum slaveholder does not deter them, nor the fact that the descendants of antebellum slaves living in the United States actually have far better lives than the African descendants of those who evaded the slave catchers.

Let me illustrate how silly this all is with a simple thought experiment.

My ancestors ran a station on the Underground Railroad helping escaped slaves get to Canada. Although New Hampshire was a free state, escaped slaves, if caught, were returned to their southern owners. So abolitionists set up a network of homes with hidden rooms to hide escaped slaves during the day, as they moved northward by night.

Now, imagine what would happen if I went up to Canada today and demanded the descendants of those escaped slaves pay me for my ancestors' assistance to their ancestors? I would be laughed off of the front porch and rightly so. Although I would have helped my ancestors with the Underground Railroad, the hard fact is that I didn't. I was not alive back them. I can not in all honesty claim responsibility for events that happened before I was born, and neither will I accept guilt for events outside my personal control.

Ted Cruz’s ‘Alliance’ With John Kasich Hits New Low Point

Speaking to reporters before a rally with Carly Fiorina, his would-be running mate, Mr. Cruz was asked about the status of the agreement, which stipulated that Mr. Kasich would cede Indiana to Mr. Cruz if Mr. Cruz abandoned plans to campaign in New Mexico and Oregon. [A] group called the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association is intent ... dozens of sheriffs signed a declaration that they would not tolerate any federal agent who attempted to register firearms, arrest someone or seize property in their counties without their consent.

Founder Richard Mack has described the federals as “the greatest threat we face today,” and his association as “the army to set our nation free.”

"Find a true constitutional sheriff who’ll tell the federal government, ‘You’re not going to abuse citizens anymore'..."

The House Just Voted To Give Wall Street Billions From Americans’ Retirement Savings

The House voted 234 to 188 Thursday to undo a rule proposed by the Labor Department earlier this month that would require anyone getting paid to provide retirement investment advice to act in the best interest of retirees. Many people think that’s already how things work, but it isn’t.

The way things work right now is that brokers who oversee retirement savings accounts can be paid extra to steer their clients into unnecessarily expensive funds or excessively risky investments, without disclosing that fact to their clients. That sort of conflicted investment advice costs Americans saving for retirement $17 billion a year, according to the White House Council of Economic Advisers.

To remedy the situation, the Obama administration proposed a fiduciary rule to keep Wall Street from taking so much money in fees from retirement accounts. The financial industry has opposed the rule from the start, saying it will raise costs and limit the advice investors can receive.

The Chelsea Clinton fundraiser that should worry Hillary’s pro-Israel backers

For $250,”friends” — or $1000 for a “champion” (photo included) — you too can attend a fundraiser with Chelsea Clinton for her mother at the home of Michael and Sholeh Chegini in Newport Coast, California, according to an invitation to the event obtained by Right Turn. Michael Chegini served on the board of directors and thereafter the advisory board of the National Iranian American Council (NIAC), a notorious group with links to the Iranian regime that opposed, among other things, any sanctions on Iran.

“The Clintons never miss an opportunity to put money ahead of principle,” a spokesman for the Republican Jewish Coalition told me. “They should know better than raising money from folks whose primary concern has been supporting the NIAC — a notorious supporter of the Radical Islamic Mullahs in Iran. Instead as is always the case, the Clintons have thrown principle out the window in exchange for cold hard cash.”

On April 26th, Britain’s Guardian headlined “TTIP: Chevron lobbied for controversial legal right as ‘environmental deterrent’,” and allowed the public to see, in a more-raw fashion than has ever before been exposed, the extent to which the motivation behind U.S. President Barack Obama’s proposed ‘trade’ deals is actually to transfer to international corporations the sovereignty we traditionally attribute to national governments, so as to cripple the governments’ abilities to regulate against toxic products, exploitation of workers (extending even so far as to allow the outright murder of trade-union organizers).
