Calling Sens. Mitchell, Daschle—Your “Bipartisan” Center Is In Funny Company

The question is, how was it that the foreign policy project of a “bipartisan” organization—founded by two relatively liberal former Democratic Majority Leaders and two relatively moderate former Republican Majority Leaders—was effectively captured and held captive for no less than seven years by hard-core neoconservatives determined to sabotage a top foreign-policy priority of a sitting Democratic president?

Former Democratic Sens. George Mitchell and Tom Daschle co-founded the Bipartisan Policy Center(BPC), along with their former Republican colleagues and fellow former majority leaders, Sens. Howard Baker and Bob Dole back in 2007. The Center, which describes itself as a “non-profit organization that drives principled solutions through rigorous analysis, reasoned negotiations and respectful dialogue,” has generally promoted mainstream, centrist positions on a range of issues over the years, including economic and energy policy, governance, health, and homeland security.

Delusional US ‘Group Think’ on Syria, Ukraine

Official Washington’s “group think” on Syria and Ukraine is so delusional that it is putting the whole world in danger, but – as with the Iraq War – the mainstream U.S. news media is part of the problem, not part of any solution.

Neocon ideology appears to have seized near total control over the editorial pages of America’s premier news organizations, including the New York Times and the Washington Post, contributing to an information crisis inside “the world’s superpower,” a development that should unnerve both Americans and the world community.

Israel – America’s Biggest Frenemy

The Jewish State in the Levant is a burden we shouldn’t have to bear.

For decades the Israelis have lived off our largesse without having to offer anything of value in return – unless Israeli interference in American politics is considered of value. We’ve handed them over $3 billion a year in tribute, stood by while they subjected their Palestinian helots to conditions not seen since South Africa’s apartheid, and smiled tolerantly, as one would at an obstreperous child, while they noisily spat in our faces at every opportunity.

And what have we gotten in return? Insults, interference, and outright threats – not to mention one of the most effective (and obnoxious) spying operations conducted on our soil by a foreign power.

Biden in Kiev on US Regime-Change Victory Tour

Russia this week condemned the dangerous escalation of US military involvement in Ukraine. Moscow’s foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said the arms announcement «broke all agreements» and that it would further destabilize the country and make a political resolution of the conflict less likely.

The next US planes to follow Biden’s will be loaded with weapons and other non-lethal munitions, as earlier this week Washington announced for the first time that it is to start supplying the Kiev regime with military hardware. Those weapons are to include anti-tank and air defence systems, sniper rifles and machine-guns.

Will the Iran Deal-Wreckers Prevail?

Iran appears ready to sign an agreement tightly constraining its nuclear program in exchange for some sanctions relief, but neocons and other U.S. hardliners appear determined to wreck the deal, which could make Mideast tensions even worse, writes ex-CIA analyst Paul R. Pillar

As of this writing the greatest chance of wrecking it appears to involve not what is going on at the negotiating tables in Europe but instead what the U.S. Congress may do back in Washington to sabotage the work of the diplomats. The energy for the Congressional wrecking ball comes, as it always has, from three sources.

‘International law is being applied highly selectively, when it comes to Iran’

RT talks to U.S. foreign policy analyst Soraya Ulrich

Soraya Ulrich is not optimistic that a deal would be reached before the deadline. She raises the point that this is not just about Iran, this is a fight about upholding international laws and international treaties, which are being violated by the United States. She notes that Iran has never violated the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty), yet it is being accused of doing so. If we succumb to the violation by one party i.e United States and its allies in this case, then international laws and international treaties will loose all meaning and other countries will fall prey to such lawlessness.

Top US and Iranian diplomats have decided to stay in Vienna to continue tense negotiations on the nuclear issue until a consensus suitable to both states is reached.

World powers are trying to agree on limits for Iran’s uranium enrichment, and the sanctions imposed on the country.

Moment of Truth — Iran and Obama

President Obama cannot mollify those critics inside as well as outside his administration who want unconditional surrender from the IRI (Islamic Republic of Iran)and still expect to get an agreement. Humiliation is a dangerous and delicate business. Especially so when the party whom you intend to humiliate is a proud people and its leaders willful.

A recommendation: Sign the nuclear accord with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Announce it with great fanfare. Declare that this opens a new era in relations between the two countries and holds out the prospect for achieving peace and stability across the region. By acting in this way, the United States would redraw the diplomatic map of the Middle East in ways that open opportunities for resolution of its internecine conflicts and for the establishment of a measure of stability.

UN resolution on Iran mockery of justice

The UN consciously or unconsciously plays into the hands of the pro-Israeli pressure groups in Canada and only puts on an ugly show of duplicity in imposing a ruling against the Islamic Republic.

The farce becomes more markedly absurd when you consider the plethora of human rights abuses going unpunished in the world with the UN laying a lid of ignorance on these blatant violations.

Iran has strongly lambasted the UN resolution, saying that “the UN’s legal mechanisms have turned into a tool in the hands of the West.”

The irony of the resolution is that the measure was initially drafted by Canada which has itself a disgracing history of human rights abuse against the aborigines in the country. Further to that, Ottawa has constantly and vehemently thrown its full-throated support behind Tel Aviv in its inconceivably ruthless crimes against the people of Palestine.

When President John F. Kennedy told the world on June 26, 1963. “Ich bin ein Berliner”, he was asserting his solidarity with Berliners separated by a wall.

Bob Carr: Why I’m now a friend of Palestine rather than Israel

Bob Carr is a former NSW premier and foreign minister. This is part of an address he gave to the Australian Friends of Palestine Association in Adelaide last night.

Israel has gone from secular to religious. The ultra-Orthodox and religious Zionists hold 30 of the 120 seats in the Knesset. It has gone from cosmopolitan to chauvinist, with some ministers -espousing a brand of radical -nationalism like that of France’s Le Pen or Austria’s Jorg Haider.

‘Russia uses language Washington understands’

To keep pandering with futile diplomacy and to not reciprocate the show of force with Washington and its minions would be the really reckless option. You don’t encourage a bully. Instead, you have to square up and push back.

Obama Slammed for Iran Outreach

American neocons are furious that President Obama reportedly sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei apparently urging concessions on nuclear talks and referencing joint interests in combating Islamic State radicals, but the letter may reflect smart diplomacy, says ex-CIA analyst Paul R. Pillar.

The bursts of criticism — from those who inveterately oppose any dealing with Iran, and those who inveterately oppose anything Barack Obama is doing, which include some of the same people — of a letter Mr. Obama reportedly sent to the supreme leader of Iran can readily be dismissed for multiple reasons.

Adelson and Saban Try To Out-Hawk Each Other

Will the blackmail of British Jewish funders backfire?

The story in The Independent On Sunday was not quite as explicit as its headline. Its message was not that very many Jewish funders had already pulled the plug on funding for the Labour Party but that they were intending to do so.

Question: What’s the difference between the Zionist lobby in America and the Zionist lobby in Britain?

Answer: In America it gives money to politicians to make them. In Britain it denies them money to break them.

What is Miliband’s crime in the eyes of wealthy British Jews who have been contributing to Labour Party funds?

He condemned Israel’s last war on the Gaza Strip which he described as “wrong and unjustifiable.” He also accused Conservative Prime Minister Cameron of being wrong not to have condemned Israel; and he added that Israel was “losing friends in the international community day by day.” (Which is true).

Discovering Iran — Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich

Marcel Proust said: “The voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” During the past two decades, I visited Iran on numerous occasions staying 10-14 days at a time. This time around, I stayed for 2 months and heeding Proust, I carried with me a fresh pair of eyes. I discarded both my Western lenses as well as my Iranian lenses and observed with objective eyes. It was a formidable journey that left me breathless.

It is hard to know where to start a travel log and how to describe a newfound world in a few pages. However, given the obsession with the status of women, it is perhaps appropriate to start with the women in Iran as I perceived them.

Hezbollah pre-empts Israeli action in south, West Bekaa

According to German intelligence security reports, Israel has recruited agents in Shebaa and Arqoub. A source familiar with the matter told The Daily Star that these agents are thought to be cooperating with terrorist cells related to takfiri organizations in the two Palestinian camps of Shatila and Burj al-Barajneh in Beirut.

The cells are composed of hundreds of militants who sneaked into Lebanon among Palestinian refugees from the Damascus camp of Yarmouk and are waiting to be given the green light to attack Hezbollah posts and institutions in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

Attacks had been planned in Tripoli and Arsal, and there was even the possibility that Beirut might be attacked, according to the source. But the Lebanese Army succeeded in thwarting these plots, and remains completely ready to confront any extremists in whichever region.

There is a tragic irony in the flight from Syria where Palestinian refugees, unlike those in Lebanon, could hold passports, own property and get jobs. Israel, jihadists seeking to ignite civil war in Lebanon: Ibrahim

Israel and Islamist militants are seeking to ignite civil war in Lebanon, General Security head Abbas Ibrahim wrote in an editorial published Thursday.

"Independence Day arrives while Lebanon battles the odds ... in an ordeal not destined to end until [Lebanon’s] inevitable victory in the battle for existence and identity in the face of organized terrorism, which is seeking to ... strike at its elements of existence through inciting [sectarian] strife and setting the stage for a civil war by targeting the military institution and other security agencies,” Ibrahim said in the article for the November issue of General Security Magazine.

“Zionism is equally as dangerous [a threat] as takfiri terrorism,” he said.

“When ancient theologies are used for modern political ends…”

The Israeli regime does a first-rate job of demonizing itself by its lawless, brutal conduct…. by taking billions of American taxpayers’ dollars and purchasing weapons of horrific destruction to inflict death and misery on its neighbors. Israelis may not behead innocent Palestinians but they sure as hell butcher them in huge numbers with high-tech weaponry paid for by America, then whine when their victims hit back with whatever unsophisticated devices they can lay hands on…

In a House of Lords debate on the Middle East the other day Lord Risby, who opened proceedings, set the tone and spoke of moving to “a final acceptance of the Palestinian reality”. He reminded the House that he and other Members had written an open letter calling for the formal recognition of Palestine by the United Kingdom.

Salafist leader calls on Lebanon to return weapons, lift warrant

A prominent leader of the Salafist movement in Lebanon called on the government to return his weapons seized at his colleague’s residence in Tripoli, stressing his right to defend himself.

Sheikh Dai al-Islam al-Shahhal, a pioneer of the Salafist movement in Lebanon, said in an interview with Ash-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper published Sunday that the weapons seized at the residence of Sheikh Bilal Deqmaq Friday belonged to him.

He called on the government to lift an arrest warrant that was issued against Deqmaq and to return the confiscated weapons.

Shahhal said Deqmaq had moved the arms to his own residence after rumors about possible Army raids on Shahhal’s residence and that of hard-line Akkar MP Khaled Daher.

9/11 Was NATO’s License to Expand Globally

The 9/11 attacks on the United States undoubtedly benefited a number of actors, including the American military-intelligence complex, Israel, and most definitely, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The Cold War-era, the area of responsibility for which had long been confined to Europe and North America, used the provisions of Article 5 of the NATO Charter – which states that an attack on one member is an attack on all – to extend NATO’s power deep into Eurasia, particularly in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

After engaging in out-of-area invasions and occupations of Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Libya, and Syria and, again in Iraq, against the «Islamic State,» the «North Atlantic» military bloc has transformed itself from a Cold War defensive alliance into a global offensive axis of nations that acts with or without United Nations authorization.

Billions set aside for post-Saddam Iraq turned up in Lebanese bunker

More than $1bn earmarked for the reconstruction of Iraq was stolen and spirited to a bunker in Lebanon as the American and Iraqi governments ignored appeals to recover the money, it has been claimed.

Stuart Bowen, a former special inspector general who investigated corruption and waste in Iraq, said the stash accounted for a significant chunk of the huge sums which vanished during the chaotic months following the 2003 US-led invasion.

Bowen’s team discovered that $1.2bn to $1.6bn was moved to a bunker in rural Lebanon for safe keeping – and then pleaded in vain for Baghdad and Washington to act, according to James Risen, a journalist who interviewed Bowen for a book, Pay Any Price: Greed, Power and Endless War, to be published this week.

Pentagon War Plans in 2001: Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, & Iran

Here is the transcript of Gen. Clark’s account.
CLARK: About 10 days after 9/11, I went to the Pentagon, and I saw [Defense] Secretary [Donald] Rumsfeld and Deputy Secretary [Paul] Wolfowitz. I went downstairs to say hello to some of the people on the joint staff that used to work for me.

One of the generals called me in and said, “Sir, you gotta come in and talk to me.” I said, “Sir, you’re too busy.” And he said, “No, no! We’ve made the decision — we’re going to war with Iraq!” This is on or about the 28th of September. I said, “We’re going to war with Iraq? Why!?” He said, “I don’t know!” He said, “I guess they don’t know what else to do.” So I said, “Did they find some information connecting Saddam to al Qaeda?” He said, “No, no, there’s nothing new that way. They just made the decision to go to war with Iraq.” He said, “I guess its like we don’t know what to do about terrorists, but we’ve got a good military and we can take down governments.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK , folks; if it wasn't clear to you that these invasions are part of a long-form plan before reading what General Clark had to say, I would like to hope that you do now.

And this is no different than the military industrial corporations which are collectively SALIVATING over the next major military confrontation the US will be having, because the profitability of such a war for them will be extraordinarily high.

Wars are NEVER about our safety, security, and alleged "freedoms"; it is all about private corporate profit, and this is why our young men and women in uniform are going to die and get maimed for life in the horrendous military confrontation I see coming, which may well engulf the entire world.

Concealed By U.S. Airstrikes Israel Opens Nusra Path To Lebanon

Under the protection of the U.S. attack on IS and other targets Israel now practically established a no-fly-zone next to the Golan which will allow Jabhat al-Nusra to safely use the corridor and to attack Hizbullah in Qalamoun and in south Lebanon. It also opens space for new attacks on Damascus.

The U.S. attack on the IS in Syria will, as the NYT headlines express, have as little effect as such attacks have in Iraq. Without coordinating air attacks with a capable, available ground force like the Syrian army such strikes on IS will make no conceivable difference. I have yet to see any report that the U.S. planes have hit some of the major weapons or ammunition depots the IS captured from the Iraqi army. There are some 50 main battle tanks and lots of heavy artillery pieces in the hands of IS. What is done to disable those?

Israel preparing for ‘very violent’ war against Hezbollah, TV report says

Just 10 days after a ceasefire ended a 50-day Israel-Hamas conflict, the Israeli army is “making plans and training” for “a very violent war” against Hezbollah in south Lebanon, an Israeli TV report said Friday night, without specifying when this war might break out.

The report, for which the army gave Israel’s Channel 2 access to several of its positions along the border with Lebanon, featured an IDF brigade commander warning that such a conflict “will be a whole different story” from the Israel-Hamas conflict in which over 2,000 Gazans (half of them gunmen according to Israel) and 72 Israelis were killed. “We will have to use considerable force” to quickly prevail over the Iranian-backed Hezbollah, “to act more decisively, more drastically,” said Colonel Dan Goldfus, commander of the 769th Hiram Infantry Brigade.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am reposting Claire's video for two reasons. First, this is a message that needs to get out to the world about how war is cilling innocent children.

Second, the latest revelations from Edward Snowden include confirmation that the NSA "tinkers" with view counts on YouTube videos to keep videos contrary to the war agenda from going viral.

Fuckers!

“The Israeli Dream”: The Criminal Roadmap Towards “Greater Israel”?

The concept of a “Greater Israel” according to the founding father of Zionism Theodore Herzl, is a Jewish State stretching “’From the Brook of Egypt to the Euphrates.’

Rabbi Fischmann, of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, stated to the UN Special Committee on 9th July 1947 that:

The Promised Land extends from the River of Egypt up to the Euphrates, it includes parts of Syria and Lebanon’”, wrote Michel Chossudovsky. (1)

Thus “from the Nile to the Euphrates.” Herzl’s detailed thesis was written in 1904.

Italian peacekeepers intercept journalists in Tyre

Italian soldiers serving with the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon intercepted a number of journalists while they covered the firing of rockets from Lebanon into Israel and the subsequent Israeli retaliatory shelling of southern villages.

“It is a dangerous precedent for UNIFIL members to prevent journalists from doing their jobs,” Bilal Qashmar, a reporter and a TV cameraman, told The Daily Star.

Hamas denies rocket attack on Israel from Lebanon

Palestinian group Hamas had no role in a rocket attack on Israel from Lebanon and had nothing to do with a statement in the name of its armed wing that claimed responsibility for the attack late yesterday, Hamas officials in Lebanon said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is another false-flag by Netanyahu to justify another attempt to steal the Litani River.

Rocket fire from Lebanon hits Israel, unclear who was behind attack

Gaza rocket fire struck a gas station and set it ablaze Friday in southern Israel, seriously wounding one person as rocket fire also came from Lebanon for the first time in the four-day offensive.

The explosion in Ashdod sent plumes of smoke high into the air. Israeli health officials said the blast wounded three people, including one in serious condition. Rocket fire continued in earnest from Gaza toward various locations in southern Israel.

Gaza fighters have fired more than 400 rockets against Israel in the offensive. Israel's "Iron Dome" defense system has intercepted most aimed at major cities.

The rocket fire on Friday came hours after about 100,000 Gaza residents living in cities near the border with Israel were reportedly told Thursday to leave their homes ahead of anticipated military action by the Israeli army, according to Israeli media reports.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Don't let that phrase used by Intelligence Minister Steinitz used about about the IDF taking Gaza over "temporarily" fool you: this will be a full-on, permanent military occupation, leaving as many dead and maimed Gazans as possible.

And BTW, take a good, hard look at those kids on the stretcher at the top of this article; now, imagine, for just one second, that they were your kids.

Lebanese Forces condemns Israeli offensive on Gaza

The Lebanese Forces Thursday condemned Israeli aggression toward Gaza, warning the international community that a prolonged crisis would plunge the entire region into chaos.

“The Lebanese Forces deplores the escalating Israeli aggression toward Gaza, which does not exclude civilians such as children, women and the elderly,” the LF said. “Such aggression is unjustifiable by all political, security and humanitarian standards,” it added. “Both the Arab and the international community are asked to take immediate action to stop what is happening as soon as possible, for the sake of the innocent lives and to prevent a deterioration that might affect the entire region, leading to chaos and producing results no one could ever imagine.”

Torn apart by a political crisis and surrounded by armed conflicts, Lebanon will become the next target for ISIS and other terrorists, said Foreign Minister Nohad Machnouk. Earlier this week, 28 were charged with planning suicide attacks.

"We must admit that what has happened in Iraq has caused great excitement among these groups that believe they can benefit from the Iraqi experience," the Sunni Muslim politician told Reuters.

In Defense of Helen Thomas: What’s Wrong With History?

Helen Thomas’s recent request to purchase a table at the upcoming White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) annual dinner has been rejected.

In a comment on that story I said, “It’s hard to imagine anything more wrong than this.”

I base my opinion on the fact that the 91-year-old Thomas, a former WHCA president, is unique among American journalists, having covered 10 different presidential administrations in a career stretching back to Dwight Eisenhower.

It is because of Thomas as much as anyone else that women were first included at the WHCA dinner since, as the WHCA’s website mentions:

A World Map Without Lebanon

"The statement from the [Lebanese] presidential palace mentioned that during a news conference in Switzerland, Netanyahu said it is not a secret that Israel will attack Lebanon, adding that it will do so with the support of the United States, the West and Arab states from the Gulf. He was also reported to have said that 'in the new world map there is no state called Lebanon'."
