Mile Markers on the Road to Fascism

Americans must break free of the apathy-inducing turpor of politics, entertainment spectacles and manufactured news. Only once we are free of the chains that bind us—or to be more exact, the chains that “blind” us—can we become actively aware of the injustices taking place around us and demand freedom from our oppressors.

For Immigration Answers, Look to Liberty

It is our weak economy, caused to a great degree by the Federal Reserve system and the business cycles it constantly creates, that makes the immigration situation worse for us. Neither extreme position is correct because neither takes this into consideration. A move toward more liberty would be the first step toward a normal immigration policy.

Toronto police G20 commander apologizes after being convicted of misconduct

The senior officer who ordered the “kettle” of people at the G20 summit five years ago has apologized after being found guilty of three of five charges related to his role in the largest mass arrests in Canadian peacetime history.

Supt. David (Mark) Fenton was convicted on two of three charges of exercising unlawful or unnecessary authority, and on one of two charges of discreditable conduct.

“He deeply regrets that some of those decisions led to the arrest of people who were not involved in the violence and that some people were held in the rain for hours,” Fenton’s lawyer Peter Brauti said in a statement.

“He would like to personally apologize to all those innocent parties that were negatively affected.”

Is This Black Monday Crash The BIG ONE? It Doesn’t Matter

Plenty amongst you will be talking about economic cycles, and opportunities, and debate how to ‘play’ the crash, but all this is useless if and when a market doesn’t function. And just about all markets in the richer part of the world stopped functioning when central banks started buying assets. That’s when you stopped being investors. And when market strategies stopped making sense.

Central banks will come up with more, much more, ‘stimulus’, but what China teaches us today is that we’re woefully close to the moment when central banks will lose the faith and trust of everyone. After injecting tens of billions of dollars in markets, which thereby ceased to function, the global economy is in a bigger mess then it was prior to QE. The whole thing is one big bubble now, and we know what invariably happens to those.

More QE is not an answer. And there is no other answer left either. Those tens of trillions will need to vanish from the global economy before any market can be returned to a functioning one, and by that time of course asset prices will be fraction of what they are now. It may not happen today, but that doesn’t matter: what’s important to know is that it WILL happen.

Is China Getting the Greek Treatment?

As China's stock market tumble precipitates a worldwide crash, we revisit this prescient 2011 article entitled "Illuminati Will Burst China's Bubble":
(from 28/12/11)
by David Richards
(henrymakow.com)

The mainstream media generally portray the US as a dying giant and China as an unstoppable rising power.

And yet, both countries have virtually the same debt-to-GDP levels. The US has $15 trillion worth of debt and a GDP of just over $14 trillion, while China has a GDP of $5.8 trillion and debts of $5.7 trillion.

Inside Job: INDIAN ANTI-CORRUPTION OFFICIAL: STATE “ORCHESTRATED” ISLAMIST TERROR

A senior Indian police officer and anti-corruption investigator last month accused the Indian government of orchestrating the Mumbai terror attacks which occurred nearly seven years ago, according to an Indian government official.

R. V. S. Mani, a former undersecretary in India’s home ministry now in the urban development ministry, testified in July that a senior police officer who investigated the 2004 ‘encounter killings’ of four Indian Muslims in Gujarat by the Ahmedabad Police Crime Branch, had told him that the 2008 Mumbai attacks were “set up” by the Indian government.

The police officer, Satish Verma?—?currently Principal at the Police Training College in Junagadh?—?is well-known for his secondment to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), India’s elite anti-corruption law enforcement agency, to lead the probe into the 2004 ‘encounter killings.’

LOCKHEED PAYS MINOR PENALTY FOR USING FEDERAL FUNDS TO LOBBY FOR MORE FEDERAL FUNDS

Lockheed Martin operates Sandia National Laboratories, one of the nation’s leading nuclear research facilities. It has had this responsibility since 1993, yet, in spite of its three-decade run of managing that operation, Lockheed officials decided to use some of the federal contractor funding to lobby Congress from 2008 to 2012 to get a more lucrative deal.

While it did not receive the kind of contract it hoped for, Lockheed Martin came away with a two year non-competitive extension worth $7.7 billion.

The Department of Justice subsequently discovered that Lockheed Martin’s actions had violated the Byrd Amendment, which prohibits the use of federal funds for lobbying. The fine Lockheed got slapped with—the price it paid for breaking the law in order to land that $7.7 billion contract extension—was $4.79 million. Not too bad a deal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And yet, no senior LOCKHEED MARTIN CORPORATION executives go to prison for these shenanigans.

Hillary’s Email Defense Strategy Was Just Hammered To Bits By These Unlikely Critics

While you might think that MSNBC’s Morning Joe would provide a refuge for Hillary Clinton as she comes under increasing attack for her controversial email practices and her reaction to criticism, the panel on the left-leaning cable net show was particularly brutal toward the Democrat front-runner on Monday. TheWashington Free Beacon points out that words such as “condescending” and “dismissive” were used to describe Hillary’s approach to defending herself against those who say she broke government rules and possibly even broke the law.

Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski was stunningly direct in her criticism of Clinton’s strategy for trying to blow past the burgeoning email scandal. “This is a strategy that is basically dependent on people not being smart, which I think is really condescending,” the MSNBC anchor charged.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It looks like the system is going to dump Hillary, rather than risk exposure of the real scandals that lie behind the issue of the server.

Will Hillary go quietly?

I hope not! :)

Stock Selloff: Panic Time or a Blip on the Radar?

Last Friday’s stock market bloodbath was the worst one-day crash since 2008. The Dow Jones dropped 531 points, while the S&P 500 fell 64, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq slid 171. The Dow lost more than 1,000 points on the week dipping back into the red for the year. At the same time, commodities continued to get hammered with oil prices briefly dropping below the critical $40 per barrel mark. More tellingly, the market’s so called “fear gauge” (VIX) skyrocketed to a 2015 high indicating more volatility to come. The VIX has remained at unusually low levels for a number of years as investors have grown more complacent figuring the Fed will intervene whenever stocks fall too far. But last week’s massacre cast doubts on the Central Bank’s intentions. Will the Fed ride to the rescue again or not? To the vast majority of institutional investors, who now base their buying decisions on Fed policy rather than market fundamentals, that is the crucial question.

Professor Awarded £250,000 to Study “Vice Epistemology,” Why People Think 9/11 Was An Inside Job

Professor Quassim Cassam has been awarded £250,000 by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to study what he calls ‘intellectual vices’. The title of his project is ‘Vice Epistemology’.

He believes his research could help to explain how certain claims – for example that 9/11 was masterminded by the US government – are able to gain so much traction.

His findings may also shed light on why some people are susceptible to becoming radicalised in ways that make them potential recruits for extremist organisations such as Islamic State.

Western Propaganda Method: Claim Dead Terrorists As Dead Civilians

By Brandon Turbeville

By now, the propaganda coming from the US State Department and the United Nations as well as their media mouthpieces should be familiar. According to these institutions, the Assad government is evil, illegitimate, and it intentionally massacres civilians. These claims are easily proven false and have been proven false in the past. Indeed, I have discussed these types of claims at length in my own articles and exposed them for being nothing more than weak attempts to convince Western peoples that Assad is a butcher and the terrorists are democracy-loving freedom fighters.

Such can be seen in the recent attempt to portray the Syrian Air Force as wantonly murdering civilians with “barrel bombs” in places like Douma...

Why We Need To Subsidize Teen Travel to Israel

Birthright decided over 15 years ago that the free trip to Israel offered through the Taglit system would be open to post-high-school-age youth and beyond. In the absence of a unified global planning system, Birthright’s decision became a de facto global Jewish policy statement. Because of this decision, and the fact that Birthright is such a heavily funded venture, the programs bringing high-school-age youth to Israel were excluded from the subsidy. Though there was never a formal policy decision made to discourage high-school-age teens from travelling to Israel, the reality was that teen programs and their participants were left out of the financing formula.
Note: By birthright they should be going to Poland etc. also will they get to see Gaza and the people Israel is murdering.

The birds circling over Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton may think those creatures making wide, gentle circles over her campaign are bluebirds of happiness, but they’re looking more and more like buzzards. They look hungry.

The news gets grimmer with every news cycle as she revises and extends everything she has said about her email machine and the classified information that may be on it. She says she can’t remember, and we can believe that much. Sir Walter Scott got it right: “O, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.”

Making Sense Of The Sudden Market Plunge

snip: The purpose of printing up trillions and trillions of dollars (supposedly) was to create economic growth, drive down unemployment, and stoke moderate inflation. On those fronts, the results have been dismal, horrible, and ineffective, respectively.

However, the results weren’t all dismal. Big banks reaped windfall profits while heaping record bonuses on themselves for being at the front of the Fed’s feeding trough. The über-wealthy enjoyed the largest increase in wealth gains in recorded history, and governments were able to borrow more and more money at cheaper and cheaper rates allowing them to deficit spend at extreme levels.

Banksterism 101: Banks Get Credit for Helping the Poor — By Financing Their Evictions?

In 1977, Congress wanted to make sure commercial banks fulfilled their commitment to serve all communities in America, regardless of income level. “A public charter conveys numerous economic benefits,” said William Proxmire, then head of the Senate Banking Committee, “and in return it is legitimate for public policy and regulatory practice to require some public purpose.” Under the Community Reinvestment Act, banks are periodically examined for how well they provide lending and investment to low- and moderate-income (LMI) neighborhoods where they take deposits. Since its enactment, 97 percent of all banks examined have received a “Satisfactory” or “Outstanding” grade, according to the Congressional Research Service.

Jeremy Corbyn will 'sack' Bank of England governor if they refuse to print free money

Richard Murphy, who is seen as the architect of Mr Corbyn's economic agenda, the so-called 'Corbynomics', warned that there was "no such thing" as an independent Bank of England.

He said that if Mr Corbyn's government wanted to use the cheap money from the Bank any governor who refused to carry out the plan for "people's quantitative easing" should be "on the next plane" out of Britain.

Under the proposal, Mr Corbyn would create a national investment bank to fund infrastructure projects which would issue debt to be bought by the Bank of England - effectively meaning the Bank would fund government spending on housing, energy, transport and other projects.

Mr Murphy said current governor Mark Carney has said it would be possible but other experts have warned the Labour leadership frontrunner’s plans would fall foul of EU laws intended to avoid runaway inflation.

More than Forty Percent of American Children Are Living in Poverty

A January 2015 report from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health reveals that forty four percent of children (those under 18) are living in de facto poverty. The Federal Government issues an artificially low annual official poverty level that radically understates the real level of US poverty. For 2015 the official level of poverty for a family of four, for example, is roughly an income $24,000 a year or less. This is for a family with 2 adults and 2 children.

The government likes to make a distinction between “poor” and “low income” but this is just a semantic game to try and hide the true level of economic deprivation Washington is willing to inflict on millions of children in order to avoid comprehensive welfare reform and realistic taxation polices directed at Wall Street and the 1 percent.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Please remember, when you step into that voting booth the next time, that elections are not won by the votes of We the People anymore; any candidate running has been thoroughly vetted for what they will give the major corporations through legislation which favors them, in return for overt and covert contributions to their campaigns.

Elections are simply a Kabuki-like exercise to give people the very real illusion that they are somewhat in control of their future, when they absolutely are not, during this time of complete corporate control over the American government.

San Dimas Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty, Faces a Year in Prison and $20,000 Fine After Trapping Skunk That Died

Prosecutors have charged a mother who was nursing her baby boy with "crimes against animals" for not handling a wild skunk and getting it out of the hot sun after it was trapped in her backyard. Cynthia Casas faces $20,000 in fines and a year in prison, with a court date in September.

US keeps violating borders of its vassals

The US Air Forces violated the Finnish airspace on 23 August, according to the country's Ministry of Defence.

The Neoconservative Empire Returns

Everyone knows the basics of the dispute over the nuclear deal with Iran. In no time at all, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu leaped directly into the American political arena to take potshots at that agreement in a way that, had any other world leader acted similarly, would have been denounced across the political spectrum. And he did so backed not only by his own party and government but by established opinion makers in Israel, all of whom are deeply convinced that the deal is neither reasonable nor in Israel’s best interests.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A war against Iran will most likely invite a war with Russia, coming to Iran's aid militarily.

The US military does not have the money, the troop strength, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome in a war against Russia, and that is what makes a war against Iran so scarily dangerous.

There are times when the interests of Israel and the US do align; the issue of the treaty with Iran is not one of those times.

And of course, the Israeli government wants the US to fight this war for them; that means it will be Americans in our military who will fight, die, and get maimed for life in a war to protect Israel's best interests.

Is this the highest and best use of US the US military?!? Absolutely not.

Macedonia had declared a state of emergency on Thursday and sealed its southern frontier, using riot police and tear gas in an attempt to drive back crowds, but the police lines were overwhelmed on Saturday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Guardian gives absolutely zero context is to why this is happening.

I watched some clips of what what going on in Macedonia on Al-Jazeera television on Saturday.

Most of these people are war-displaced Syrians, desperately trying to get into Europe to achieve some kind of refugee status.

The Macedonian police were beating men with clubs, and throwing flash-bang grenades at the feet of mothers with toddlers in their arms.

The US government, redoubling its efforts to oust Bashir Al-Assad, is specifically responsible for this massive human tidal wave of misery, but will, of course, do absolutely nothing to help these people.

They are, to this government, simply "collateral damage",because they did not have the collective good taste to die outright in their country of origin.

Just looking at the faces of those parents, kids and toddlers, with all the trauma they have had to endure, nearly made me cry, and I think it would have done the same for all decent people of conscience.

This is a pogrom against people of the Middle East and Africa, because they have the nerve to be living on resources - or near potential pipeline routes - the US government wants for itself, and to insure that payments for those resources are only doe with US dollars.

Obama Should Charge Clinton With Espionage

Hillary Clinton should be charged with espionage. Not really. And I don't think she will be. But if the Obama administration is going to be consistent in its treatment of those who leak classified information, Clinton ought to face charges under the Espionage Act.

The Espionage Act was written in 1917 to combat German saboteurs during the First World War. Between 1917 and 2008, it was used three times to charge Americans who had passed classified information to the press. Since Barack Obama became president, however, his Justice Department has charged eight Americans with espionage. I know. I'm one of them. And none of us gave classified information to a foreign government. In fact, most of us were whistleblowers, exposing evidence of government waste, fraud, abuse, or illegality.

The Espionage Act is actually pretty simple. It says that a person is guilty of espionage if he provides "national defense information to any person not entitled to receive it."

Irvine, CA Officer Poses As Active School Shooter As Other Armed Cops Rush To Scene, Unaware It's A Drill

The Irvine police chief confirmed that one of his officers was the gunman. Meanwhile, other officers were deployed to the school with real weapons, unaware that it was a drill.
"There was an actual person pretending to be a shooter with a gun, for a drill, but police didn't know it was a drill, people could have been shot," a witness said.

Philadelphia cop taped using anti-gay slur-extortion

A Philadelphia cop is in hot water for a videotape where he extorts a driver and uses anti-gay language. The video (see below) of Officer Matthew Zagursky is making the Internet rounds. According to Philly.com, it was taped last week during a traffic stop.

Instead of giving the driver a ticket, Zagursky offered the driver, and passenger, a deal. They could buy two tickets to fundraiser that pays college tuition for the children of officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty. The tickets cost $30 (€26).

Pesticides in paradise: Hawaii's spike in birth defects puts focus on GM crops

Pediatrician Carla Nelson remembers catching sight of the unusually pale newborn, then hearing an abnormal heartbeat through the stethoscope and thinking that something was terribly wrong.

The baby was born minutes before with a severe heart malformation that would require complex surgery. What worried her as she waited for the ambulance plane to take the infant from Waimea, on the island of Kauai, to the main children’s hospital in Honolulu, on another Hawaiian island, was that it was the fourth one shehad seen in three years.

In all of Waimea, there have been at least nine in five years, she says, shaking her head. That’s more than 10 times the national rate, according to analysis by local doctors.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Politicians and judges can be paid off; it is a small price to pay for the huge profits corporations make from GMO crops.

And the people of Kauai have absolutely no choice in the matter; what they get are illnesses, and genetic deformations from cancer-causing glyphosate.

When you vote and nothing changes, you are not living in a representative democracy at all; this is what has happened both to Kauai and the US in general.

This Map Shows How Many More Students Are Living In Poverty Than 9 Years Ago

Students in America’s schools are much, much poorer than they were nine years ago.

In 2006, 31 percent of America’s students attended schools in “high-poverty” districts, meaning that 20 percent or more of the district's students lived below the federal poverty line. By 2013, however, this number jumped to over 49 percent, according to an analysis of U.S. Census estimates from the nonprofit EdBuild. This means that nearly half of the nation’s children between the ages of 5 and 17 attend schools in communities where a large chunk of families are struggling to get by.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Obama loves big numbers.

I am nearly certain that the consistent continuation of offshoring/outsourcing of jobs, which remains unabated in his administration, courtesy of the corporations which support him, overtly and covertly, must be a point of personal pride for him.
