FBI reopens Tylenol tampering case

The FBI on Wednesday searched the suburban Boston home of a man convicted of extortion in the 1982 Tylenol tampering killings, saying they had reopened the investigation into the seven unsolved murders because of advances in forensic technology and new tips to law enforcement.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Here is a tip. Check out the companies that became rich selling tamper-proof seals right after the Tylanol scare.

Meanwhile, the fact that they are going back into this case suggests a desperate attempt to manufacture more news (like the re-opening of the Jon Benet Ramsey case a few days ago) rather than have to report what is going on today in Europe and Gaza.

... or to set the propaganda stage for a false flag terror attack in which retail products are tampered with by the Joker, I mean "The Toilet."

I guess you can see that there is a problem of some sort here and that the problem would only be that bad things are happening because of it which is what makes it a problem in the first place and what also makes it a Zen koan and why I keep getting hit in the back of the head with a bamboo stave… grasshopper.

Torture Chic: Why Is the Media Glorifying Inhumane, Sadistic Behavior?

When photographs of torture and abuse at Abu Ghraib appeared in 2004, Bush's approval ratings sank, yet torture themes multiplied in film and TV. From 2002 through 2005, the Parents Television Council counted 624 torture scenes in prime time, a six-fold increase. UCLA's Television Violence Monitoring Project reports "torture on TV shows is significantly higher than it was five years ago and the characters who torture have changed. It used to be that only villains on television tortured. Today, "good guy" and heroic American characters torture -- and this torture is depicted as necessary, effective and even patriotic".

Does the BBC still have a reason to exist?

The BBC's decision to boycott the DEC Gaza appeal is a new low in the corporation's history. Many Muslims believe the BBC has a history of being pro-Israeli. It is a rare occurrence indeed when the BBC takes a position that unites not only all the main political parties but most of the country against it.

Attacking Islam, Revisited
An Update of a Published Article On March 21, 1994

One intelligent question we are asked over and over again and must be answered: ?Why is America warring against one Islamic country after another? Is it because Arabs are sub-human, as Israelis claim, or are Muslims terrorists as the American press subtly suggests; or, is it an anti-Islamic agenda among our nation?s leaders that they do not share with us?

Turn off the Canadian media, please

People in a country like Canada use their own media - public (CBC) and private (CanWest, TorStar, CTVglobemedia) - to know what is happening in their own country. Media are also an important part of forging a national identity. They are supposed to represent the broad spectrum of Canadian opinion. When they present information on the rest of the world, they do so from a Canadian perspective and have the Canadian audience in mind.

And today, if you want to have the first idea what is happening in Israel/Palestine (or most of the rest of the world), the best thing to do would be to turn them off completely.

BBC abandons 'impartiality' on warming

In terms of journalistic professionalism, the sad thing about all this is that the debate about global warming has now entered a fascinating new stage. Honest coverage of all the new information coming to light would be vastly more interesting to the BBC's audience than the vapid propaganda which is all they get.

But inevitably this also exposes the hollowness of all those claims that the BBC still has a duty to remain "impartial", which on this issue is belied by own guidelines. As a particularly glaring example of how the BBC has, on so many issues, abandoned any pretence of impartiality, this can only provide more ammunition to those who argue that it no longer deserves that compulsory licence fee.

BBC suspends Gaza appeal investigation after legal threat

A special committee set up by the BBC Trust was due to report next week on the corporation's decision not to broadcast an appeal by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which prompted more than 15,000 complaints.

However, the process was halted when the BBC received a letter from a firm of solicitors threatening to take the corporation to judicial review if it does not screen the appeal.

The letter, from London law firm Hickman & Rose, was sent on behalf of two Gaza residents and one British citizen. It is understood to claim that the BBC's actions were "irrational or unlawful" and breached the European Convention of Human Rights.

The BBC – a crisis of confidence?

The refusal to transmit the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal has left it isolated and exposed. Its senior journalists feel betrayed, but dare not speak out because of their terms of service. Its old soldiers like myself cannot believe what we are seeing – or, in the case of the DEC appeal, not seeing. The argument that it should not be shown because the humanitarian disaster in Gaza was man-made does not stand up to a moment's scrutiny. The sufferings of the people of Darfur and the Democratic Republic of Congo were also the result of man's inhumanity to man. But those appeals were shown without objection. The BBC's management acts as if there is one rule for Africans and another for Palestinians.

Senate OKs 4-month Delay To Digital TV Changeover

People who have not gotten their TV sets ready for the changeover to digital signals could earn a four-month reprieve under a bill making its way through Congress.

The BBC’s pact with Israel

Comment: Gaza appeal was quiet, factual and effective

Quiet, factual, unhistrionic — last night’s Disasters Emergency Committee’s appeal was all the more effective for those qualities. Images of suffering were matched to scripted assertion and then backed up by statistics.

Sixty per cent of Gaza was living in poverty: 300,000 were without access to running water; 40 per cent were without electricity. There was less editorialising than the most objective BBC correspondent’s dispatch. “Several hundred have been killed,” said the voiceover. Note the passive voice. “Today this is not about the rights and wrongs of the conflict.” Israel was not mentioned.

Webmaster's Commentary:

BBC’s Mark Thompson Exposed for Refusing Gaza Aid Appeal

That Mark Thompson has been supporting Zionist leaders is no secret. In fact, Mark Thompson’s wife, Jane, is Jewish and a fanatic supporter of Zionist policies. Is Mark simply trying to appease his wife? If he is, then this has to be one of the most outrageous acts in the history of British media. The glaring disregard for human suffering, however, can only be explained by Mark Thompson’s close relationship with Israeli leaders. In 2005, Mr. Thompson broke all rules of independent journalism when he travelled to Jerusalem and met former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in order to “build bridges” between the BBC and Israel. This unprecedented move was not covered by Western media, but the Israeli press gave it significant importance.

BBC's TV detector vans to remain a state secret

Although most detection is done by database the Beeb still claims to maintain a fleet of vans which can tell if a particular address contains a TV. If you buy or rent a TV or buy a PC tuner card in the UK your address is passed onto TV Licensing. The BBC maintains a database of 29 million residential and business addresses which it can check for up-to-date licences. If there is no response to letters an "enquiry officer" is sent to the address. If householders refuse them access - which is quite legal - then a detector van will be sent.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Just a reminder that the British subjects pay a license fee for BBC, which means it is a public trust. For BBC to carry out Israel's wishes regarding the Gaza fundraiser is a theft of service from the British people.

Send the lot of them to The Tower! (I'll pay the license fee just to watch that!)

Activists have occupied the Glasgow offices of the BBC. The backlash against the BBC has been unprecedented. This is not a trivial matter: as Tony Benn put it, people will die as a consequence of the BBC’s choices. And in this case, its choices have been dictated by the Israeli embassy.

Veteran politician Tony Benn will accuse the BBC of a "betrayal" of its public service obligations following its decision not to broadcast a public appeal for funds for Gaza.

He will address a pro-Palestine rally called by the Stop the War coalition outside Broadcasting House in central London.

BBC attacked by Ben Bradshaw for refusal to broadcast emergency fund appeal for Gaza

Ben Bradshaw urged the BBC to "stand up" to the Israeli authorities and broadcast the appeal.

A former BBC journalist himself, Mr Bradshaw said the broadcasters' decision not to carry the appeal by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) was "inexplicable".

Webmaster's Commentary:

No, you explained it very well. Israel demands the BBC not carry the appeal and BBC obeys and bows and kisses Israel's feet (or other bodily part).

Zionist Propaganda Machine

As in past Mideast conflicts, both the media story line and political commentary in the US have closely followed Israel's talking points on the war. This has been an essential component in Israel's early success and in its ability to prolong fighting without US pushback.

The BBC Takes Sides In A Human Disaster

This is a not a political issue and does not involve taking sides.

It's about helping thousands of wounded people and millions displaced. It's helping "Katrina"-type victims but on a much larger scale.

By BBC not participating, it proves the power of Israel is not just over George Bush, the US Congress and America but also over the UK.

Webmaster's Commentary:

You know, this is where Israeli arrogance kicks in. They are in a bad position, but their pride will not let them back down. They are going to fight this PR war harder and harder and harder in the hope they can simply browbeat the world into seeing things their way and all that will really happen is that Israel's true subversion of western nations will become more visible.

BBC faces protest for blocking Gaza appeal

Hundreds of protesters are expected to gather outside Broadcasting House in London today after the BBC defended its decision not to broadcast a public appeal to raise funds for Gaza.

The corporation said the decision was taken with other broadcasters not to show the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) crisis appeal because of impartiality concerns.

If the BBC had not already been tarnished enough by its coverage of Israel’s attack on Gaza – often looking like, in the words of Tony Benn, “a propaganda wing of the Zionist lobby” – its decision yesterday to block an appeal for emergency aid to Gaza would be reason enough for making the BBC a focus of our demonstration on Saturday 24 January.

When it first became clear that Apartheid Israel was complicit in the attacks on America on 9/11 my view of America and the world changed completely. Neither our President, our Congress, or our Department of Justice responded. It was then clear that we could no longer rely on our elected representatives bought and paid for by special interests(and one in particular) to protect our country or defend our Constitution. It was also clear that a free press once relied upon to expose political malfeasance, corruption and treason was little more than a Zionist controlled sham serving no real purpose but to stifle criticism of those very people seeking to undermine our democracy and divert our nations human and economic resources for their own purposes and benefit.

Today reporters write the stories that their masters want to hear, or they are out. The function of editors is to make certain that no uncomfortable information reaches the public.

The public is slowly catching on, and the print media is slowly dying. The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and Los Angeles Times are all on the ropes to one extent or the other.

Americans are still subjected to Fox "News" and CNN propaganda piped into airport waiting rooms, doctors’ offices, and exercise centers. It is very much the situation that George Orwell describes in 1984.

How to sell “ethical warfare”

Neve Gordon highlights the role of the Israeli media as a tool in promoting Israel’s propaganda claim that its war on Gaza is ethical. “Israeli media have been toeing the government line to such a degree that no criticism of the war has been voiced on any of the three local television stations. Indeed, the situation has become so absurd that reporters and anchors are currently less critical of the war than the military spokespeople.”

The Monster of Gaza

Almost all the Western media initially repeated the official Israeli propaganda line. They almost entirely ignored the Palestinian side of the story, not to mention the daily demonstrations of the Israeli peace camp. The view from the other side, that the Qassams are a retaliation for the siege that starves the one and a half million inhabitants of the Gaza Strip, was not mentioned at all.

AP is Lying to Push for War on Iran (Again)

So, contrary to what the AP headline and opening paragraph tells the reader, he was not suggesting the death of the entire nation of Israel. In fact, he didn’t even use the word Israel at all; the AP editor nicely inserted it for him.

In professional news reporting, the headline and the lede (the first 1–3 paragraphs or so) deliver the synopsis of the story. An unmistakable trait of shoddy news-wire journalism is when you have to read 20 paragraphs of irrelevant editorializing to get a modifying paragraph with quoted phrases and context pertaining to what the headline promised to deliver.

Question: Who’s going to stick around for that?
Answer: A lot fewer than would read only the headline and lede.
Conclusion: Damage done.

The New York Times and the Gaza crisis: Israeli war propaganda in the guise of news

The New York Times is the leading media organ of US liberalism and is closely aligned to the Democratic Party. In recent days it has planted a series of propaganda pieces disguised as news articles, which aim to justify Israel’s war crimes in Gaza.

These articles appear in the context of worldwide revulsion at the criminal methods Israel is using in the densely populated Gaza strip, home to 1.4 million people. So far, more than 900 Palestinians have been killed, about half of them civilians, and thousands more have been wounded in an Israeli air, sea and ground assault that is utilizing advanced weapons supplied by the United States against a virtually defenseless population.

Pure Propaganda From the Papers of Record

The Israeli propaganda machine has called up its allies in the media and Congress to make sure that no one will condemn the invasion of Gaza, which has killed and wounded thousands of Palestinians, most of them civilians and many of them children. The pictures of small bodies lined up to be buried are convincing evidence that something is very wrong in Gaza, but leaders in Congress from both parties have nonetheless rallied to the cause of Israeli victimhood, putting all the blame for the conflict on the Palestinians.

The American print and TV media has never been very good. These days it is horrible. If a person intends to be informed, he must turn to foreign news broadcasts, to Internet sites, to foreign newspapers available on the Internet, or to alternative newspapers that are springing up in various cities. A person who sits in front of Murdoch’s Fox "News" or CNN or who reads the New York Times is simply being brainwashed with propaganda.

BBC blackout on Gaza

The London Daily News has learned there is an informal news blackout at BBC Radio over the mounting public outrage following the Gaza incursion by Israeli troops.

According to sources, radio station phone in's have been screening out any callers wanting to talk about the Israeli air strikes and ground offensives in the Middle East.

The BBC's Have Your Say comment sites are being heavily moderated - its main board 'How can a truce be achieved in Gaza?' has had half of its 4,500 comments rejected on the basis of defamation, incitement to crime and hate, harassment, abuse, threats, harmful, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, homophobic or racially offensive language.

On the board 'Are the Israeli strikes on Gaza justified?' Half of the 5,000 comments have also been removed for breaking the House Rules stated above.

The BBC: Eyeless in Gaza

On 29 February last year the BBC's website reported deputy defense minister Matan Vilnai threatening a "holocaust" on Gaza. Headlined "Israel warns of Gaza 'holocaust'" the story would undergo nine revisions in the next twelve hours. Before the day was over the headline would read "Gaza militants 'risking disaster.'" (The story has since been revised again with an exculpatory note added soft-pedaling Vilnai's comments). An Israeli official threatening "holocaust" may be unpalatable to those who routinely invoke its specter to deflect criticism from the state's criminal behavior. With the "holocaust" reference redacted, the new headline shifted culpability neatly into the hands of "Gaza militants" instead.

Now the Israeli army is trying the same doomed tactic again. Ban the press. Keep the cameras out. 'NYT,' Most Others in U.S. Media, Silent as Israel Invades

Israel launched its much-anticipated invasion of Gaza on Saturday. For over a week, U.S. media had provided largely one-sided coverage of the conflict, with little editorializing or commentary arguing against broader Israeli actions.

Most notably, after more than eight days of Israeli bombing and Hamas rocket launching in Gaza, The New York Times had produced exactly one editorial, not a single commentary by any of its columnists, and only two op-eds (one already published elsewhere). The editorial, several days ago, did argue against the wisdom of a ground invasion - - but even though that invasion had become ever more likely all week the paper did not return to this subject.

Amazingly, the paper has kept that silence going in Sunday's paper, with no editorial or columnist comment on the Israeli invasion.

How Much More Jewish Opinion Do We Need On Cable News?...Isn't It Time For The Ralph Nader Show?

Even when tiny vulnerable Israel is not bombing one of it's neighbors into oblivion, it's not really difficult to detect a certain bias on the part of America's news media. You can tell this bias by that which is not covered. Like the Rosen-Weissman-AIPAC espionage trial over the past few years, for example, or their lack of interest in Ben-Ami Kadish's recent guilty plea for handing over America's nuclear secrets to the Apartheid State (Our tough as nails Zionist Attorney General apparently promised him if he pleaded guilty he wouldn't spend a day in jail). This bias was also apparent in its complete lack of interest in the Mossad movers, who were watching the hijackers prior to 9/11, but who neglected to tell us about them(the video they took of themselves in Liberty Park waiting for the first impact at the World Trade Center is now classified by our Government, but do you think they care?).

As usual, no mention that it was Israel that broke the truce on November 4th with the blockade, and November 5th with the attack that killed 6 Hamas officials.

Israel Claims Success In War Spin

“Whenever Israel is bombing, it is hard to explain our position to the world,” said Avi Pazner, Israel’s former ambassador to Italy and France, and one of the officials drafted in to present Israel’s case to the world media. “But at least this time everything was ready and in place.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

You just go on telling yourself that, Avi. Just go on telling yourself that.

AP: Maybe Israel is targeting women, children, and mosques; but …

For whenever the most powerful military power in the Middle East needs that extra boost of rocket-propelled propaganda, they turn to The Associated Press to make sure we “understand” it wasn’t really their fault. I call this phenomenon the “informational secondary explosion” — so-named after one of the IDF’s favorite explanations for why the accidental and unfortunate results of its heroic airstrikes ”appear to be“ so “collaterally damaging.”

Here’s how it works.

The first explosion is the initial, shocking account of the death of women, children, elderly, etc., and the obliteration of mosques, ambulances, universities, and such; while the crucial, secondary explosion is the unbiased, objective, conscientious, contextual background on the ”unintended recipients” of said fate.

The informational secondary explosion has the suggestive net effect of telling the reader: “See? It wasn’t all that bad. When you put 2 and 2 together you get — uh, well — legitimate targets!”

The Huffington Post: Israeli-Occupied Territory

When Arianna nabbed $25 million from Oak Investment Partners, of Palo Alto, California, she was acquired by a financial network that also has significant investments in the Israeli arms industry – an industry, I might add, directly subsidized and controlled by the Israeli government. For example, Oak Investment has invested in IET/Intelligent Electronics, now morphed into Clickservice Software, an Israeli-based company that makes sophisticated weapons systems and sells them to clients such as "an unnamed Far Eastern country." Oak Investment partner Fred Harman now sits on the Huffington Post's board.

Case closed. Mystery solved.

A Curious Case of Cynthia McKinney.

So… the Israelis come out into international waters and scatter the waves with machine gun fire and then ram this boat, “Dignity” and some people are asking if it even happened or happened anywhere near the way they said it happened because Cynthia, you know, she likes to push policemen around and she’s got that 9/11 virus. Official sources say that this boat, which isn’t built for the job, took evasive action and that’s why it happened when …the boats that are designed for this sort of thing hit her. Later it was just called an accident that happened three times. The cool thing about dealing with reality instead of fiction is that you don’t have to stretch the truth cause the truth will just stretch itself to contain whatever's needed to prove once again that truth is stranger than fiction depending on your version of the truth.

Israeli Military Declares Online Media ‘Another War Zone’

As the media struggles to get up-to-date information, television news coverage is narrow, and often relies on interviews with Israeli government officials explaining why the killings are righteous and legitimate expressions of democracy and freedom, more and more people are turning to online news sites (like WRH) for their war coverage.

The Israeli military has therefore announced that online media and the blogosphere are another warzone for the military to manage.

Lights Out in Gaza, News Blackout in US

Despite international outcry over escalating violence, the U.S. mainstream media continues to privilege a prepackaged narrative in which Israel's actions are never disproportionate, never counterproductive and certainly never gratuitous. According to the mainstream media, the U.S. must continue uncompromisingly supporting Israel because the allegedly beleaguered democracy is held hostage by monomaniacal Islamofascists who are inherently evil. Promoting a paradigm in which Israel is always David up against Goliath, the U.S. media presents suffering Palestinians as expendable for the greater cause of Israel winning its epic struggle. To justify U.S.'s carte blanche to Israel, the mainstream media restricts American readers to an echo chamber in which the following claims are repeated ad nausem until they are mistaken for fact:

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is WHY we should demand that CNN and FOX news, indeed ALL news channels be optional for cable TV systems. We know they are lying; why should we be forced to pay for it? I will gladly trade all of CNN and FOX (and all of MSNBC except for Olbermann and Maddow) for The Daily Show.

TV News Winds Down Operations on Iraq War

“Americans like their wars movie length and with a happy ending,” Mr. Boettcher said. “If the war drags on and there is no happy ending, Americans start to squirm in their seats. In the case of television news, they began changing the channel when a story from Iraq appeared.”

Survey: Americans prefer Web over papers to read news

The Internet has surpassed newspapers as the main source for national and international news for Americans, according to a new survey.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Corporate media is going the way of the dodo bird and the dribble glass.

Why? Because it has become, in the main, the enabler of governments which lie to their people in order to accomplish their geopolitical goals.

By doing so, it has absolutely sown the seeds of its own demise.

Americans who are sick and tired of having been lied to on such a consistent basis are finding a fresh, reasonable, and generally more truthful perspective on the net.

That's why honest internet so terrifies governments.

Larisa Alexandrovna: One of my sources died in a plane crash last night

Mike Connell set-up the alternate email and communications system for the White House. He was responsible for creating the system that hosted the infamous accounts that Karl Rove and others used. When asked by Congress to provide these emails, the White House said that they were destroyed. But in reality, what Connell is alleged to have done is move these files to other servers after having allegedly scrubbed the files from all "known" Karl Rove accounts.

Failure at the FCC

Martin supports a-la-carte programming, while the cable industry opposes it. Under a-la-carte programming, cable customers could pick which channels they want rather than pay a flat rate for a bundle of stations.

At first blush, the idea sounds like a good one that could give customers more choice and allow for lower bills. But in reality the logistics of customizing every subscriber's cable package and bill would likely drive up prices. At the same time, many of the smaller niche channels would disappear for lack of subscriber interest, resulting in fewer choices.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What this is really about is that the "basic service" includes the propaganda channels like FOX, CNN, etc. Given the lack of public trust in the corporate media it is unlikely most cable subscribers would keep those channels if they had a choice.

The claim that "the logistics of customizing every subscriber's cable package and bill would likely drive up prices" is totally unfounded since cable companies already track each customers account separately for the premium channels, par per views, etc.

This article has an agenda to preserve the current system, which forces propaganda channels on every cable TV viewer without choice.

The Real Story Behind the Rushed Blagojevich Bust: How the Feds Are Frustrated by Losing (Maybe) Half of Their Case

Caylee is Dead, Long Live the Media Distractions

This Caylee story must be one of the most important events in the world. Why else would the news channels spend so much time on it?

I heard that in another part of the world there are also a few children dying. Starving, blown to bits or from lack of medical care.

Now where is that place? The talking heads are silent on it so it's easy to forget. The budget must be tight because I don't think Gretta has been sent there. Not newsworthy I suppose.

Oh yeah, I remember now, someplace called Gaza.

Bill Conlin: Two-minute warning for our beloved sportswriters

If the printed page dies, there is no denying that the fatal wounds have been self-inflicted. There was an elitist smugness even in the press boxes of the 1960s, when Howard Cosell was just a radio nobody hustling for interviews in clubhouses filled with sports writers who treated him like a wad of gum stuck to the soles of their Florsheims. One of my early idols, Dick Young, railed at TV crews trolling for sound bites on his clubhouse turf. And this was before the Internet had a name or an existence.
