U.S. Weighs Backing Bank Debt

The U.S. is weighing two dramatic steps to repair ailing financial markets: guaranteeing billions of dollars in bank debt and temporarily insuring all U.S. bank deposits.

Years ago I predicted the day would come when Americans faced a simple choice between two alternatives. Either Americans would cut their losses, stop tossing good money after bad, and let the old regime collapse into the black hole of debt of its own making, or Americans would allow themselves to get sucked down into that abyss with the government.
