Susan Rice, President Barack Obama’s U.N. ambassador, asked her fellow Democrats to give the commander-in-chief a bit of a break when it comes to the war in Afghanistan.
Memo to UN Ambassador Rice: what we appear to have in this alleged "change in strategy", announced by the white house last spring, looks suspiciously very much like the old strategy.
We are bombing the hell out of non-combatants, killing women, kids, the elderly, and the medically infirm.
These aerial bombardments are simply radicalizing those left standing against both the US and the Karzai government, and pushing them into the waiting arms of the Taliban.
And as your blithe statement: "America, she said, has a crucial stake in Afghanistan." Would you mind, Madam Ambassador, telling the American people just what the devil that is, particularly to those families and friends of people who have died and been maimed physically and/or psychologically fighting this war?
It could not possibly have been "creating democracy in Afghanistan, as demonstrated by the rampant fraud in the last election.
So what is that stake, Madame Secretary?
Thinking Americans are looking at the mayhem and misery we are creating there, and understanding very clearly that the only people "winning" this war right now are the drug dealers and the defense contractors, period, end of discussion.
