Washington Holocaust Museum shooter has white supremacy ties: reports
Posted: June 10, 2009, 4:44 PM by Chris Boutet
D.C. fire department spokesman Alan Etter told the Washington Post that a police officer has been shot outside the museum at 15th Street and Independence Avenue.
According to radio station WTOP, D.C. police say a suspect walked into the museum, took out a weapon (WJZ says it was a rifle) and fired at a security guard just before 1 p.m. Two other security guards opened fire, striking the victim. There was also word of a third person shot in the altercation, but WTOP reports this person was apparently injured by "flying glass."
UPDATE 2 p.m.: Watching CNN now, police recount events as such: a man entered the Holocaust Museum with a "long gun" — either a rifle or a shotgun shortly before 1 p.m. ET. it is unclear if he made it through the metal detectors at the entrance of the museum or not.

By David Jackson, USA TODAY
Fire department spokesman Alan Etter told CNN a third person was hurt after being cut by broken glass.
The museum normally has a heavy security presence with guards positioned both inside and outside. All visitors are required to pass through metal detectors at the entrance, and bags are screened.
