THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

"Imperialism today is taking place in the context of...the 'universalization' of capitalism. It is not now primarily a matter of territorial conquest or direct military or colonial control. It is not now a matter of capitalist powers invading non-capitalist powers in order to bleed them dry directly and by brute force. Now it is more a matter of ensuring that the forces of the capitalist market prevail in every corner of the world (even if this means marginalizing and impoverishing parts of it), and of manipulating those market forces to the advantage of the most powerful capitalist economies and the United States in particular." ... "Military force is still central to the imperialist project, in some ways more than ever."-- Political scientist Ellen Meiksins-Wood, Z magazine Nov 1999, p26

Russia warns of response to US missile shield

Russia says its response to the further development of a U.S. missile shield in Poland will go beyond diplomacy.

Russia's Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying the U.S. missile shield plans are clearly aimed at weakening Russia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Again, the proudly, geopolitically clueless are in control of US foreign policy, and there are no grown-ups in the room.

Just as Georgia hideously mis-judged Russia's ferocious fear of invasion, so has the white house just demonstrated a colossal failure of imagination by believing that Russia would not respond to the development of a US missle shield in Poland.

The words "beyond diplomacy" may well translate into a military attack against Poland. This agreement states clearly that the US will come to the aid of Poland militarily if Poland is attacked.

Mu ha ha ha!

US defense of Poland against Russia would be about as effective as the US "shock and awe" campaign on a nearly defenseless little country like Iraq.

I'm still waiting for Iraqis to drop rose petals at the feet of American insurgent troops!
