Over 1,000 Afghan civilians killed this year: UN

Afghanistan's intensifying conflict killed more than 1,000 civilians in the first six months of 2009, an increase of nearly a quarter over the same period last year, the United Nations said Friday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The boost in troop numbers has very little to do with the spiraling death count.

As the use of drones continues in Afghanistan, this number of killed and injured could easily quadruple before the end of the year.

And just to remind you why we are in Afghanistan, and our young men and women are fighting and dieing; the installation of pipelines (Bush and his minions thought that an invasion and occupation would be "cheaper" than what the Taliban were asking for this in August of 2001), and the protection of the drug trade, from which so many profit so handsomely.
