THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

"I am strongly in favor of using poisoned gas against uncivilized tribes. The moral effect should be good...and it would spread a lively terror.... "-- Winston Churchill commenting on the British use of poison gas against the Iraqis after World War I

Mad Dog Palin

All around me, a million cops in their absurd post-9/11 space-combat get-ups stand guard as assholes in papier-mache puppet heads scramble around for one last moment of network face time before the coverage goes dark. Four-chinned delegates from places like Arkansas and Georgia are pouring joyously out the gates in search of bars where they can load up on Zombies and Scorpion Bowls and other "wild" drinks and extramaritally grope their turkey-necked female companions in bathroom stalls as part of the "unbelievable time" they will inevitably report to their pals back home. Only 21st-century Americans can pass through a metal detector six times in an hour and still think they're at a party.

The Man Just Does Not Get It!!!

This is what interests me most on this story, the last 3 paragraphs:

"State Representative George Peterson of Grafton, a Republican who voted for repeal in 2002, declined to say how he would vote this time.

“If we lose $12.5 billion, can I build a responsible budget with that loss in revenue?” Mr. Peterson asked. “No, I can’t.”

But he suggested that if the repeal passed, even though it is technically binding, the Legislature might be forced to find a way around it and pass a new law setting taxes at the 5 percent rate voters asked for eight years ago. “I’m telling my constituents, if you want to send a message that we have a budget that is out of control, send me that message.”

Here is a man that was elected by the people, through a democratic voting process....now the people want to use the same democratic voting process to repeal the state income tax law and this ELECTED OFFICIAL says that if the people vote to repeal ALL STATE INCOME TAX, then he will suggest the state give the people the 5% state tax they voted for in 2000 (but mass only gave them 5.7% then 5.3%)......ARE THE PEOPLE OF MASS. JUST GOING TO LET THEIR ELECTED OFFICIALS RUN ALL OVER THEM LIKE THAT!!
