This morning two US Predator Drones attacked a small village two miles north of Miramshah in Pakistan’s North Waziristan Agency, killing at least 20 and wounding 25 others. According to an anonymous Pakistani military officer, none of those killed were militants. At least four women and two children were reported among the dead and most of the wounded are also reported to be women and children.
It appears that we're doing in Pakistan precisely what we have been doing in Afghanistan: killing scores of civilians and radicalizing those left standing against the current Pakistani government.
We can, of course, see just how well this policy is working is Afghanistan; it is not working at all.
One of the classical definitions of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, yet expecting a different outcome.
Insanity, unfortunately, has become a very reasonable characterization of current US foreign policy.
