THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

" One in 10 chance perhaps, but save Chile! ... not concerned with risks involved ... $10,000,000 available, more if necessary ... make the economy scream."-- CIA Director Richard Helms, discussing plan to destabilize government of Chile under democractically-elected President Salvador Allende

Iran 'sending weapons to Taleban'

Elements in the Iranian state are sending weapons across the border to the Taleban in Afghanistan, a BBC investigation has uncovered.

Taleban members said they had received Iranian-made arms from elements in the Iranian state and from smugglers.

The UK says its troops have intercepted arms which it believes were given by a group within the Iranian state.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So THIS is what passes for "journalism" at the BBC??!?!

One doesn't know whether to laugh or cry.

OK, WHAT "elements" are sending these weapons to the Taliban? If you can't identify the source, how can you make that accusation?

And as to the statement "The UK says its troops have intercepted arms which it believes were given by a group within the Iranian state", this is like being a little bit pregnant; either one is, or one is not, and there is no middle ground here.

And if these weapons are being smuggled into Afghanistan, let's see them, up close and personal, with the manufacturer's stamp, or some identifying characteristic which gives BBC readers no doubt as to what they are seeing.

Please don't just put stick a generic picture of some Taliban fighters in the upper right hand portion of the article, as though this picture is somehow "proof" of Iranian weapons in Afghanistan; it's only a picture of a couple of guys holding weapons, which is zero proof at all.

I remember when the same accusation was made about militants in Iraq being given Iranian weapons, and the US military was going to hold a press conference, so that everyone could see that this had actually happened. Well, that press conference got postponed......indefinitely.

So, BBC: Instead of coyly asking "....Are elements of the Iranian state also donating arms?", show your on-line readers the actual weapons if you can!

My bet would be that they won't.....because they can't. This is simply another "bash Iran" campaign, and very poorly conceived at that.
