Mr. Vilar, 67, blinked when the first guilty verdict was pronounced by the foreman in a United States District courtroom but remain stone-faced. His former partner and co-defendant, Gary A. Tanaka, 65, was convicted of three of the counts.
The two men, former partners in Amerindo Investment Advisors Inc., were charged in a 12-count indictment alleging conspiracy and securities fraud, investment adviser fraud, mail fraud, wire fraud and money laundering. Mr. Tanaka was found guilty of conspiracy, securities fraud and investment advisor fraud.
