Ballots from about 10 percent of Afghanistan's polling stations must be recounted because of suspicions of fraud in last month's presidential election, according to an order from a U.N.-backed body, an official said Tuesday.
At the end of the day, the outcome will probably be the same, but we'll hear much more self-congratulatory chest-thumping from Americans and NATO members, assuring themselves of what a magnificent job they did to make sure that this election "free and fair" for the Afghan people.
This "election" is an absolute fraud and a sham. This is simply the re-anointing of Karzai for one more term in office, so that the US and NATO can deal with the "devil they know", rather than the devil they don't know.
And even if, by some miracle, Abdullah Abdullah squeaks ahead for a marginal victory over Karzai, his ability to actually created the reforms on which he based his ca,[aogm will be severely challenged by the on-going corruption of his predecessor.
