ADL chairman speaks out against argument that Israel endangers US soldiers.

And on Sunday, ABC News senior White House correspondent Jake Tapper asked US President Barack Obama’s top aide David Axelrod twice whether “Israel’s intransigence on the housing issue put the lives of US troops at risk.”

“This is probably one of the most serious charges that we have ever heard,” Foxman said.

“Israel is a country that has never asked American soldiers, even in its darkest moment, to risk its lives to defend it. From time to time there have been suggestions of security pacts, where the US would have to come to Israel’s aid, and all the leaders of Israel have said that the last thing they would want is for US soldiers to risk their lives to defend Israelis,” he said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

(Ahem) Mr. Foxman, apparently you didn't get the memo.

Israel was a prime "cheerleader" for the war in Iraq, to "neutralize" yet another one of its existential threats in the Middle East (and that includes just about all of its neighbors!)

As reported on 4 December 2003 in:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/iraq/2003-12-04-israeli-iraq-threat_x.htm

General: Israelis exaggerated Iraq threat

" Israeli intelligence overplayed the threat posed by Iraq and reinforced the U.S. and British assessment that Saddam Hussein had large amounts of weapons of mass destruction, a retired Israeli general said Thursday."

"The Israeli assessment may have been colored by politics, including a desire to see the Iraqi leader toppled, said Shlomo Brom, who was a senior Israeli military intelligence officer and is now a researcher with Israel's top strategic think tank"

To date, as reported on 16 February, 2010 in http://usliberals.about.com/od/homelandsecurit1/a/IraqNumbers.htm :

Iraq War Facts, Results & Statistics at February 16, 2010
4,379 US Soldiers Killed, 31,669 Seriously Wounded

These are the cold hard facts of the Iraq war which, to large extent, was waged to neutralize this alleged "existential threat" to Israel.

So Mr. Foxman, your assumption that every reader of this article has severe ADD is perhaps one you may want to re-visit, particularly for any family or friends whose loved ones were killed or maimed for life in Israel's cause in the Middle East.

And so now, Israel is impatiently needling the US to start another war for them against Iran, screaming belligerently that if the US doesn't do this, Israel will do it for us.

Mr. Foxman, such a war, again to "neutralize" yet another of Israel's paranoically perceived existential threats, will kill more American soldiers than we have already lost in Iraq.

So in the future sir, you might never want to make that statement that "...“Israel is a country that has never asked American soldiers, even in its darkest moment, to risk its lives to defend it", because we have

It is called the Iraq War.

This will most probably go global, and once again, our American kids will be caught in the crossfire in Iraq, and every other place in the Middle East where the American military is serving.
