Eurasian Corridor Project: China to Invest $5Bln in Russia’s Far East

Amid increasing tensions with the West, Russia is making progress on long-awaited deals with its eastern neighbor, China.

The China Development Bank has confirmed its plans to invest $5 billion in Russia’s Far East, news reports said Friday.

Investments will be channeled to regional economic zones and will finance large infrastructure projects, Russia’s Far East Development Ministry said.

“Russia is ready to take on the transit cargo coming from the Asia-Pacific region to Europe, in line with the plans of the Chinese government to reanimate the Great Silk Way,” said Far East Development Minister Alexander Galushka.

The new silk way is not meant to be a physical replica of the ancient route that connected China and the Mediterranean through Persia, but is rather a general concept of a land and sea transport corridor that has the same purpose — to link Asia and Europe, Galushka said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US government continues to wage wars in an attempt to get what it needs, while the Russians and Chinese are striking development deals to achieve the same outcomes.

What is wrong with this picture?!? If you are an American who cares very much about the future of your country, BLOODY EVERYTHING!!

French spy ship FS Dupuy de Lôme with COMINT/ELINT equipment Passed Through Turkish Straits

On 14 April 2014 we expect the destroyer FS Dupleix to pass through the Turkish Straits.

But by far the intelligence gathering ship FS Dupuy de Lôme will be the most controversial one. She is fitted with COMINT and ELINT equipment. Her helicopter pad might be used to launch and recover unmanned air vehicles which can carry additional intelligence gathering sensors. According to Jane’s Fighting Ship, the ship is available for 350 days a year and active for 240 days.

May be France is better in making strategic communication at a level that can be correctly interpreted by Russians by sending two spy ships to the back yard of the Russians.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Such a move will not ratchet down tensions in the region, and are nearly guaranteed to escalate them.

Blackwater Resurfaces In Ukraine

Well, that’s great news, isn’t it? Blackwater is back. After a first wave of negative publicity over its involvement in Iraq, a major PR hush-hush campaign led to a series of mergers, takeovers and name changes; first, in 2009, it became Xe Services, only to turn into Academi in 2011. What a brilliant moniker for a bunch of modern day mercenaries that is. Who would expect a ruthless killing machine behind a name like that?

Russia quite matter of factly mentioned that it doesn’t appreciate the presence of 150 mercenaries from Academi affiliate Greystone in Ukraine, wearing, no less, Ukrainian special task police uniforms, where the soldiers of fortune are apparently being deployed, by US/EU/Ukraine, to stifle the protests in eastern cities like Donetsk and Kharkiv. Does make you wonder if the US would be just as matter of factly if a heavily armed Navy Seal style Russian or Chinese private army were active in Mexico or Canada.

OPINION: Ambiguity of ‘Mercenary’ Label Is Politically Expedient

Defining someone as a “mercenary” has become a tool of political will and expediency, as the definition is ambiguous, Matt Potter, a British journalist told RIA Novosti.

“Because 'mercenary' is so loose and therefore easily manipulated, defining people as 'mercenaries' has become as much an act of political will and expediency as calling someone a ‘traitor’,” Potter said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry earlier voiced concerns over the buildup of Ukrainian forces in the southeastern part of the country, including some 150 US mercenaries from the Barbados-registered Greystone company dressed in uniforms of the country’s elite Sokol police unit.

The US dismissed the claims, with US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland saying there was no truth to them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Since it was the US that lied to us all about Saddam's nuclear weapons, the benefit of the doubt goes to Russia on this. And, it should be remembered. there is a video of the capture of one of these American mercenaries, so we know the US Government is, as usual, lying through their teeth.

Ukraine misses deadline to pay Russia's Gazprom gas debt

If you've ever been in arrears on your gas bill you will know it's in everyone's interests to come to some sort of agreement with your supplier. But Ukraine and Russia seem to be struggling.

Ukraine owes Russia $2.1 billion (£1.2 billion) for gas and counting. More correctly, it owes that rather staggering sum of money to Gazprom, the world's largest gas company which is owned by the Russian state.

The final deadline for Ukraine to settle the outstanding balance, in full, came and went yesterday at 17:00 Moscow time (14:00 BST). My understanding is that no money changed hands. Gazprom executives this morning sound mightily cross but it isn't clear what happens next.

AFP PODCAST & ARTICLE: György Schwartz — The Man Behind the Mess in Ukraine

Anyone following the Ukrainian crisis in the reality-warping media comes away with this impression: The Ukrainian people, desperate for Western-style democracy, rose up and rebelled against their authoritarian president. Russia then invaded the Crimea in order to keep Ukraine under its iron grip.

The reality, however, is far from the spin peddled by the mainstream media and its globalist backers. The rebellion in Ukraine was orchestrated by Western bankers as part of a vicious chess game that pits Washington against Moscow. Putin did not invade Crimea, and in a referendum voted on March 16, 97% of Crimeans asked to be allowed to join Russia.

Dave Gahary spoke with reporter Pete Papaherakles, the author of this article, to learn more about what’s behind this story, in this informative interview (28:22).

U.S. Threatens Russia with Sanctions Over Oil Deal with Iran

The United States is threatening Russia with more sanctions, not only over the situation in Ukraine but also over a possible oil deal between Moscow and Tehran.

Reuters reported that U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew told his Russian counterpart on Thursday that any oil-for-goods deal Moscow might strike with Iran could run afoul of U.S. sanctions.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A memo to US Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew (who obviously did NOT get the memo): The Russian Finance Minister has publicly stated today that Russia does not acknowledge US sanctions against Iran! Sorry to have to be the first to tell you, sir, but I thought somebody needed to! :-)

Russia only recognizes UN Security Council sanctions against Iran, not the United States’ own “Oil for Goods” deal, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said after a meeting with US Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday. “The US Secretary of the Treasury informed us that they have information about the possible participation of our companies in trade ties with Iran for buying Iranian oil,” Siluanov said. “In this situation we are acting on the basis of decisions by the United Nations, which defines sanctions and groups of goods that will fall under the sanctions, and we are acting within the limits of the decisions approved by international organizations,” he added.

This move on Russia's part, sir, may get other UN members to follow suit. I don't know what might be playing on your Ipod right now, but I would suggest the theme from the movie "Exodous" might just be appropriate!

State Department Again Denies Presence of US Mercenaries in Ukraine

Claims that a private US security company has sent mercenaries to Ukraine are untrue, US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland has said.

The security company denied such accusations in a phone conversation, Nuland said before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, without naming the company.

Russian media earlier reported that mercenaries of US private military company Greystone Limited were involved in the recent crackdown on pro-federalization protestors in eastern Ukraine. According to the firm’s official statement obtained by RIA Novosti, its employees did not take part in the events, and there are no plans to deploy anyone to the region.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With so utterly little credibility the US State Department has at this moment, I would tend to believe that reports of US private security units in the Ukraine are most probably true.

Why US Fracking Companies Are Licking Their Lips Over Ukraine

he way to beat Vladimir Putin is to flood the European market with fracked-in-the-USA natural gas, or so the industry would have us believe. As part of escalating anti-Russian hysteria, two bills have been introduced into the US Congress – one in the House of Representatives (H.R. 6), one in the Senate (S. 2083) – that attempt to fast-track liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, all in the name of helping Europe to wean itself from Putin's fossil fuels, and enhancing US national security.

According to Cory Gardner, the Republican congressman who introduced the House bill, "opposing this legislation is like hanging up on a 911 call from our friends and allies". And that might be true – as long as your friends and allies work at Chevron and Shell, and the emergency is the need to keep profits up amid dwindling supplies of conventional oil and gas.

New Cover-up in Boston Bombing Saga—Blaming Moscow

Maybe you heard: the Russians are responsible for the Boston Marathon Bombing. At least indirectly.

That’s what the New York Times says. Had the Russians told the Americans everything they knew about Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the bombing might have been averted by the FBI. The Times knows this because it was told so by an anonymous “senior American official” who got an advance look at a report from the “intelligence community.”

Anyone who still entertains the fantasy that America is a vigorous, healthy democracy with an honest and reliable security apparatus and an honest, competent, vigilant media need only consider this major news leak just published as a New York Times exclusive. It pretty much sums up the fundamental corruption of our institutions, the lack of accountability, and the deep-dyed complicity of the “finest” brand in American journalism.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And the sloppy demonization of Russia continues, unabated.

But the problem for the New York Times is, after lying to the American public so consistently about Saddam's nuclear bombs; Al-Assad's gassing of his own people; and the need to invade and occupy Afghanistan, Americans are growing skeptical of anything it has to say, and with damned good reason.

America to invade Ukraine

The current Obama administration is not all together stupid, they can read public felling and sentiment. American people are tired of war, wars and wars and multitudes of wars. No other country in the world has been at war constantly since the Second World War, other than the US. Finally the people of the nation are weary of the endless killing and body bags coming home. The rhetoric of the slogans of deceit and the beating war drums are no longer stirring a failing country. The senses are becoming numbed by the endless lies and killing. Obama can at least see that he is not going to stir a nation on false pretexts this time over the Ukraine issue. Fortunately, because of the internet, many Americans can now see for themselves the truth behind much of the manoeuvrings of governments who are controlled by other forces.

Ukraine Prime Minister Yatsenyuk appeals to restive east

Ukraine's Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has promised leaders in the country's restive east they'll be granted more powers. The move is an attempt to quell separatist sentiment amid heightened EU-Russia energy tension.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Ukraine is asking for Europe's help to pay Russian gas bill. Looks like the plan to allow the ECB to loot Ukraine isn't working out very well.

Ukraine’s revolution isn’t over yet

As head of the government’s newly christened Lustration Committee — the result of a popular mandate during the months-long protests against Viktor Yanukovych — he’s meant to be spearheading an effort to cleanse Ukrainian politics of any traces of the ousted president, as well as the official abuse for which his regime was toppled.

Sobolev’s task might be easier if his committee had any real power, he says, or if the country’s new ruling coalition were to show any real interest in passing legislation aimed at purging the old elite.

But, according to Kyiv's leading moral crusader, the popular demand for lustration voiced on Independence Square, the “Maidan,” has fallen victim to politicians looking to save their own skin.

“It looks more like an attempt to fool the Maidan with this idea,” he says.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In other words, the honeymoon is over with the new coup d'etat government in Kiev (actually in this case it was a rape) and the Ukrainians have already lost trust and confidence in their new leadership.

Ukraine PM offers more power to eastern regions to quell crisis

In an attempt to quell the deepening crisis in eastern Ukraine, the interim prime minister has offered to devolve more power to the regions.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk met officials in Donetsk on Friday, where pro-Russian separatists are occupying government buildings and demanding a referendum on independence from Kiev.

Yatsenyuk did not meet with representatives of the protesters, nor did he offer any detail on how his vision of devolution differed from that of the separatists.

It came as the Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, said Russia did not want to take over more Ukrainian territory but repeated a call for Kiev to grant more powers to regional authorities. "We want Ukraine to be whole within its current borders, but whole with full respect for the regions," state-run RIA quoted Lavrov as saying.

Ukraine’s first IMF money won’t be used to pay off Russian debt

Paying off debt to Russia will not be a first priority for Ukraine when it secures its first tranche of International Monetary (IMF) bailout cash, Oleksandr Shlapak, coup-imposed Ukraine’s Finance Minister has said.

"The money that we receive from the IMF will be divided between the reserves of the National Bank and the state budget, and the money will be earmarked. So we do not plan to spend on repaying debts to Russia,” Shlapak said at the IMF and World Bank spring meeting in Washington DC on Thursday.

NATO’s Russian troop build-up satellite images ‘show 2013 drills’

Upon looking at the photos, a senior official at the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces has confirmed to RIA Novosti the troops shown are indeed Russian ones and that they were photographed in the south of Russia.

There is one problem, though: the images were taken some eight months before the stated date, the source said.

“These shots, which were distributed by NATO, show Russian Armed Forces units of the Southern Military District, which in the summer of last year were taking part in various drills, including near the Ukrainian border,” the General Staff official told RIA Novosti.

"I hope that the initiative of Russian foreign ministry on adjusting the situation and changing it for the better will have consequences, and that the outcome will be positive," the Russian president told a televised government meeting. Replacing Russian Gas Deliveries with US Shale Gas? Washington Lies to the EU

The White House and State Department have engaged in brazen lying to EU governments regarding the ability of the US to supply more than enough natural gas to replace Russian gas deliveries. Recent statements by US President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry are so patently false that it betrays an incredible desperation in Washington over the situation in Ukraine versus Moscow. Or it suggests that Washington is so out of touch with any factual reality she simply doesn’t care what she says. Either way, it suggests an unreliable diplomatic partner for the EU.

NATO's top military commander in Europe, drafting countermoves to the Russian military threat against Ukraine, said Wednesday they could include deployment of American troops to alliance member states in Eastern Europe now feeling at risk.

U.S. Air Force Gen. Philip Breedlove told The Associated Press he wouldn't "write off involvement by any nation, to include the United States."

Foreign ministers of the 28-nation alliance have given Breedlove until Tuesday to propose steps to reassure NATO members nearest Russia that other alliance countries have their back.

OPINION: US Mercenaries Could Start All-Out War In Ukraine for Profit

The deployment of foreign private security firms in Ukraine is unacceptable as they increase the risk of an outbreak of civil war, Dennis John Kucinich, a former US Representative from Ohio and a two-time presidential candidate, told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

“We saw in Iraq how private security forces can get out of control. Whenever you are in a politically sensitive, a military sensitive situation the last thing you want is private security out there, because they can actually profit by an expanded conflict. They can stir up a war and then profit from it,” Kucinich said.

The former US Representative said he is completely against the use of private security companies in any conflicts.

Second US Navy Destroyer to Arrive in Black Sea by Thursday

A US Navy destroyer will arrive in the Black Sea by Thursday, CNN reported early Wednesday citing Pentagon sources.

The USS Donald Cook, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, departed for the Black Sea from Spain. The warship is equipped with the Aegis fire control system and Tomahawk subsonic cruise missiles.

The warship will be the fourth to visit the Black Sea since February.

The guided missile destroyer USS Truxton extended its deployment in the Black Sea, Deputy White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said last week.

Moscow has already taken note that the duration of deployment of US warships in the Black Sea has exceeded the terms laid out in an international convention governing the presence of naval vessels in the region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said during a joint press conference with Kazakhstan's foreign minister last Thursday.

US pays $8 million a month to have its private armies deployed in Ukraine - British press

Deputy Chief of People's Self-Defence of Donbass, Sergei Tsyplakov, claims that 100 "soldiers of fortune" have arrived this time. Judging by US and UK press reports, the overall strength of the ground force that the Kiev-based government is going to send to the South-East of Ukraine makes up 1,800.

The US private military companies Blackwater and Greystone are the ones that are mentioned increasingly often. Blackwater is actually non-existent. It has changed its name several times and is now called Academi. It's a biggest private army of the world. Blackwater is one of its subdivisions. 90 percent of orders of both companies come from the US Department of State, the Pentagon and even the White House. They can collect from 5,000 to 10,000 "soldiers of fortune" under their standards.

Is the US or the World Coming to an End? — Paul Craig Roberts

2014 is shaping up as a year of reckoning for the United States.

Two pressures are building on the US dollar. One pressure comes from the Federal Reserve’s declining ability to rig the price of gold as Western gold supplies shrivel and market knowledge of the Fed’s illegal price rigging spreads. The evidence of massive amounts of naked shorts being dumped into the paper gold futures market at times of day when trading is thin is unequivocal. It has become obvious that the price of gold is being rigged in the futures market in order to protect the dollar’s value from QE.

The other pressure arises from the Obama regime’s foolish threats of sanctions on Russia. Other countries are no longer willing to tolerate Washington’s abuse of the world dollar standard. Washington uses the dollar-based international payments system to inflict damage on the economies of countries that resist Washington’s political hegemony.

Recent protests in eastern Ukraine were triggered by Kiev’s attempt to violate the linguistic rights of Russian speakers, Dennis John Kucinich, a former US Representative from Ohio and a two-time presidential candidate, told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

NATO to triple Baltic air patrol from next month

NATO will triple its usual number of fighter jets patrolling over the Baltics next month to beef up its eastern European defenses due to tension with Russia over Ukraine, a NATO military official said on Tuesday.

Four NATO fighters are usually based in the Baltics but the United States, which currently has responsibility for patrolling the skies there, increased that to 10 F-15s to reassure those states following Russia's occupation of Ukraine's Crimea region.

The number of fighters assigned to the Baltic "air policing" mission is now set to increase further to 12, three times the normal complement, when the next four-month period starts in May, the NATO military official said.

The strengthening of air patrols over the Baltics is part of a plan of air, land and sea reinforcements for central and eastern European allies that NATO's top military commander, U.S. Air Force General Philip Breedlove, is drawing up by April 15.

Also, the Donald Cook will whole call into a number of ports along coast, including some ports in Bulgaria. In addition to this, some 175 US marines will be deployed at the Romanian coast.

Derek Chollet, the US Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs who is a principal advisor to the secretary on security strategy and policy issues, told a group of Congressmen earlier Tuesday that one more US ship would be dispatched to the Black Sea in addition to the destroyer Truxton, which is already there.

US could ‘re-examine’ its military presence in Europe

Russia‘s takeover of Crimea could prompt a review the US military presence in Europe, which has declined steadily since the end of the Cold War, a senior Pentagon official said today.

“While we do not seek confrontation with Russia, its actions in Europe and Eurasia may require the United States to re-examine our force posture in Europe and our requirement for future deployments, exercises, and training in the region,” said Assistant Secretary of Defense Derek Chollet.

Some 67,000 US military members are currently stationed on the European continent, mainly in Germany (40,000), Italy (11,000) and Britain (9,500).

When the Soviet Union fell in late 1991, the total presence stood at 285,000.

Chollet, testifying before the House Armed Services Committee, did not specify what such a re-examination could entail at a time when the Pentagon faces budget cuts and is seeking to redeploy part of its resources to the Asia Pacific region as part of a so-called pivot strategy.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Deep in the bowels of Congressional committees, there lurks one bill, submitted by Representative Charlie Rangel of New York, to reinstate the draft, and this time, for both our young men and women.

Congressman Charles B. Rangel introduced legislation on Friday that would reintroduce the draft and would require all women to register for the Selective Service.

His reasoning for this is disingenuous in the extreme, and he has made the statement that "Reinstating the draft and requiring women to register for the Selective Service would compel the American public to have a stake in the wars we fight as a nation. We must question why and how we go to war, and who decides to send our men and women into harm's way."

OF course, a new draft will not do that because all wars are economic, and are engineered to have all countries go into debt to pay for, and finance their war efforts, which will take decades to pay back to the banks.
No war is "the people's war": they are all bankers' wars, for profit.

But should there be something really ugly, anywhere in the world which targets American assets of any kind, I would not bet against the passage of this bill, perhaps as early as before the end of this year.

Ukrainian government in Kiev has revealed itself to be capable of preposterous lies

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has made an interesting statement on Ukraine, which, for some reason, was overlooked by the Ukrainian media. That’s according to the Ukrainian Choice news portal. The United Nations Security Council has, for the umpteenth time, considered the Ukrainian issue, and experts made a rather unexpected conclusion. It turned out that Ukraine has no official boundaries. Since the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991, Kiev hasn’t demarked its borders. Nor has it registered at the United Nations the demarcation of its borders as a sovereign state.

In addition to calling for sanctions against Russian companies, some Western leaders have suggested that American companies should halt operations in Russia.

Protests continue in Kharkov (Ukraine's second largest city), Donetsk (its largest industrial city), Dnepropetrovsk, Lugansk, Odessa, Nikolayev and elsewhere.

Ukraine's prime minister on Thursday blamed ousted President Viktor Yanukovych for the deaths of dozens of anti-government protesters shot by police snipers and urged Russia to hand him over to face charges.

Arseniy Yatseniuk made his comments to Reuters after Ukraine's security service (SBU) blamed the killing of more than 100 protesters in mid-February on the Berkut riot police but said Yanukovych had been involved in planning the operation.

The SBU also said representatives of Russia's FSB security force had been at the SBU headquarters in Kiev - under the previous government - during three months of protests, and that Russia had flown explosives into Ukraine as they worsened.

NATO warns Russia against ‘historic mistake’ in Ukraine

The United States accused Russia on Tuesday of sending its agents to stoke a flaring secession crisis in eastern Ukraine that Moscow itself conceded could spill over into civil war.

The blunt US charge came as Ukraine's embattled leaders waged an uphill battle to keep their culturally splintered nation of 46 million together after the February ouster of a pro-Kremlin president and subsequent loss of Crimea to Russia.

An eery echo of the Black Sea peninsula's separation sounded on Sunday when militants -- many of them masked -- stormed a series of strategic buildings across a swathe of heavily Russified eastern regions and demanded that Moscow send its troops for support.

Ukraine mounted a counter-offensive on Tuesday by vowing to treat the separatists as "terrorists" and making 70 arrests in a nighttime security sweep aimed at proving the Kremlin's involvement in the secessionist movement.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The phrase at the top of this article gives me the shivers, because it was precisely the same phrase Netanyahu used to characterize the interim agreement reached by the P5 + 1 last Fall over Iran's nuclear program.

IT is still not clear if, by the time the US invokes sanctions over a Russian barter deal with Iran for oil, whether it will cause the negotiations to break down completely, but if they do collapse, you can nearly bet on Israel's attacking Iran very shortly after that.

And that statement by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen "...reaffirmed on a visit to Paris that Moscow -- its forces now massed along Ukraine's eastern frontier -- would be making an "historic mistake" if it were to intervene in Ukraine any further."

Sir, forgive me, but WHERE ARE THESE RUSSIA FORCES ALLEGEDLY MASSING ALONG UKRAINE'S EASTERN FRONTIER?!? Because apparently, they are no where to be seen by normal, thinking, analytical people, but by people who are, (and insanely so), looking to start a war with Russia.

Where is your proof, Secretary Rasmussen?!?

Because, just in case you did NOT get the memo (which I believe may well be the case), no thinking, sane American I know wants to go to war with Russia, because they understand that at this point in the US military's history, the US military doesn't have the troop strength, the money, or the manufacturing to obtain a favorable outcome in a conventional war against Russia; and that is what makes the military option here so scarily dangerous.

The "historic mistake" was the US thinking it could go on covertly overthrowing foreign governments without the world realizing what they were doing.

BEX ALERT - Russian ‘plans for war on Sweden’ cause concern

“The most serious threat we see right now is war preparations,” Säpo chief counter-intelligence analyst Wilhelm Unge said at a press conference on Monday.
While stressing that such preparations did not necessarily mean anything dramatic, he said: “It’s no secret that Russia is engaged in this. It’s a little bit worrying.”
Unge said Russia’s intensified interest in Sweden was evidenced by simulated flight attacks on Swedish targets as well as attempts to recruit spies, increased signals intelligence, and the purchase of a significant number of maps.
“If you weren’t carrying out war preparations against Sweden, you probably wouldn’t have any military intelligence here. The intelligence service is part of the Russian general staff and just the fact that they are here indicates some kind of intent,” he said.
The simulated flight attacks were a particular point of concern for Säpo.

Russia, US Complete Warheads-for-Fuel Program

The United States has completed payments under a historic agreement providing for the import of Russian highly-enriched uranium for electricity production, Russia’s state-owned uranium producer and trader Techsnabexport said Monday.

“We received the final payment from the United States Enrichment Corporation in March,” the company said, adding that its obligations under a contract for low-enriched uranium ended late last year.

The last shipment of Russian uranium from nuclear warheads converted to reactor fuel arrived in Baltimore by sea in early December, ending a program that has provided 10 percent of all US electricity over the past 15 years.

Russia’s Petro-Ruble Challenges US Dollar Hegemony. China Seeks Development of Eurasian Trade

Russia has just dropped another bombshell, announcing not only the de-coupling of its trade from the dollar, but also that its hydrocarbon trade will in the future be carried out in rubles and local currencies of its trading partners – no longer in dollars – see Voice of Russia

Russia’s trade in hydrocarbons amounts to about a trillion dollars per year. Other countries, especially the BRICS and BRCIS-associates (BRICSA) may soon follow suit and join forces with Russia, abandoning the ‘petro-dollar’ as trading unit for oil and gas. This could amount to tens of trillions in loss for demand of petro-dollars per year (US GDP about 17 trillion dollars – December 2013) – leaving an important dent in the US economy would be an understatement.

flashback: Russia Cuts Off Gas Deliveries to Ukraine

January 1, 2009 MOSCOW — In the face of mounting economic troubles, Russia cut off deliveries of natural gas to Ukraine on Thursday after Ukraine rejected the Kremlin’s demands for a sharp increase in gas prices.

A similar reduction in supplies to Ukraine in 2006 caused a drop in pressure throughout Europe’s integrated natural gas pipeline system and led to shortages in countries as far away as Italy and France.

Thu Feb 2, 2012
WRAPUP 1-Europe readier than before as Russia gas flows slow
* Supply cuts affect Italy, Poland, Slovakia and Austria
* Echoes of 2009'S Russia-Ukraine gas dispute emerge
* Slovakia reports 30 percent cut in gas supply
* German utility says supplies ample

Several European countries reported reduced flows of Russian gas on Thursday, as bitter cold caused soaring demand, and although overall supplies were adequate the issue had echoes of a 2009 crisis caused by tensions between Moscow and Ukraine.

The European Union's executive Commission has said supplies to Italy via the Austrian border are down by a tenth. Poland reported a 7 percent decline, and Slovakia said it suffered a 30 percent drop.

Russian gas export monopoly Gazprom voiced surprise, saying it was sending as much gas as it could spare to Europe and that Ukraine, across which the fuel flows through pipelines, must be taking more than its contracted share.

Ukraine flatly rejected the suggestion, saying it was only taking its allocated share.

Russia Tells Ukrainians: 'Referendum' Or We Can't Protect You As Ukraine Proposes State Of Emegency

The storming of various non-Crimean Ukrainian city government buildings suggest round two of the push is beginning and Russia is wasting no time explaining how this will go down. Russian Senator Viktor Ozerov stated that "Russia has no right to [send peacekeepers] unilaterally" to Eastern and Southern Ukraine (unless the UN agrees)... but... "Russia is interested in stability in Ukraine. At the same time, the will of the people must be documented. A referendum is the most democratic way of expressing one's will." In other words, "we can't help you unless you hold a referendum to annex." Stage 2 is beginning... and it seems Ukraine is getting it as they are preparing to issue a state of emergency.

Obama Issues Threats To Russia And NATO

The Obama regime has issued simultaneous threats to the enemy it is making out of Russia and to its European NATO allies on which Washington is relying to support sanctions on Russia. This cannot end well.

The Obama regime, desperate that no individual and no country escape its spy net, denounced Western Europe’s intention to protect the privacy of its communications as “a violation of trade laws.”

Washington’s objection to the Russian/Iranian deal made it clear to all governments that Washington uses the dollar-based international payments system as a means of control. Why should countries accept an international payments system that infringes their sovereignty? What would happen if instead of passively accepting the dollar as the means of international payment, countries simply left the dollar system?

Webmaster's Commentary:

IS everyone in DC pathologically incapable of long-term, logical, critical thinking?

The US government's threats to Europe will drive all European countries away from any current or future trade deals with the US.

Ukraine president holds security meeting in Kiev

Ukraine's acting President Oleksandr Turchynov has called an emergency meeting of security services as pro-Russian demonstrators take to the streets of several cities demanding referendum and autonomy.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a major threat not just to the unelected government in Kiev but to the entire structure of US foreign policy which has operated for more than half a century on the theory that when the changes a regime in a nation, the people of that nation will just follow the new government as they did the old. But that paradigm is shifting as the people of the regime-changed nations decide to cede the capital city to the coup d'etat, and simply secede. That changes the requirement for the US to control a region form simply overthrowing the leadership to full-on invasion, which increased the costs exponentially (and is not looked on favorably by the people of the world).

Tens Of Thousands Of Russian Troops Near Ukraine Border, U.S. Envoy Says

The U.S. ambassador to the OSCE said Russia had amassed tens of thousands of troops near the border with Ukraine and called on Moscow to take steps to de-escalate the situation.

"We have strong evidence that there are tens of thousands of forces on the border and again not in their normal peacetime positions or garrisons," Daniel Baer told reporters after an emergency meeting of the 57-member Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe on Monday to discuss the issue.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to US OCSE Ambassador Baer: sir, where the FLIP is your proof of this alleged massing of Russian troops?!?!?

And particularly after an NBC camera crew traveled the entire length of the Ukraine/ Russian border last week, and saw no evidence of any such Russian troop buildup on the border. Are these guys hiding under tarps, waiting for the order to make themselves visible to the world?!?

We went to look for ourselves. Cameraman Dmitry Solovyov, sound engineer Alexei Gordienko and I packed our bags, devices and news-gathering gadgets into the back of our grey, nondescript bureau minivan and began a journey along the 1,200 mile border between Russia and Ukraine – many segments of which give no indication that it’s an actual border between two countries. Sudzha, a small town in the region of Kursk, site of the biggest tank battle of World War II, was our first destination. A tank column had been spotted there, 5 miles from the border, about a week before. But as we drove around the quaint town – equally proud of its freshly painted Orthodox Church and its bronze statue of Vladimir Lenin – we saw no tanks, or even armored personnel carriers. We did see ATM machines on almost every block. All was quiet. There was no tension in the air. Outside town, farmers were planting winter wheat.

Ambassador Baer, I would very much like to politely point out to you that the "big lie" technique no longer works, thanks to the alternative media.

Putin, unlike many of his Western counterparts, is a man of his word: he has assured the world that he has absolutely no interest in invading the Ukraine, and my bet would be that he will not do so.

A war with Russia over the Ukraine would be one of the most pig-headedly, ham-fistedly stupid thing the United States government could do at this point; of course, that reality is absolutely no guarantee that the US government will not do it.
