Twenty-two US states ask supreme court to revisit controversial ruling that lifts restrictions on corporate money in politics.

Nearly half of US states have thrown their weight behind a legal defence of local laws restricting corporate money in politics by asking the supreme court to revisit its widely-criticised ban on similar national legislation.

The states filed a brief with the supreme court on Monday in support of a century-old law in Montana – the Corrupt Practices Act – against companies pumping money into elections.

The European Union (EU) is claiming that Google overstepped its bounds as a monopoly. Officials in the EU have been conducting anti-trust investigation into Google’s treatment of search term results.

'I believe that these fast-moving markets would particularly benefit from a quick resolution of the competition issues identified,' said Joaquín Almunia, the head of competition policy for the European Commission. 'Restoring competition swiftly to the benefit of users at an early stage is always preferable to lengthy proceedings, although these sometimes become indispensable to competition enforcement.

Almunia said that Google is becoming a dominant abuser with regard to its business practices.

Earlier this year, the President created the Global Development Council (GDC); a new commission that is promoting global growth and expansion through international initiatives.

The purpose of the council is to advance the US government’s “national security objectives: security, prosperity, respect for universal values, and a just and sustainable international order.”

Funding for the GDC dictates their policy with the engagement of financial partners and beneficiaries as well as stakeholders.

A bill that would decriminalize the possession of up to 15 grams (a little more than a half-ounce) of marijuana was approved Monday by the Assembly Judiciary Committee. The bill, Assembly Bill 1465, now heads for an Assembly floor vote.

Under current law, small-time pot possession is punishable by up to six months in jail. Under AB 1465, the threat of jail would be removed and infractions would be punishable by a $150 fine for a first offense, $200 for a second offense, and $500 for a third offense...

Sunland Park, New Mexico is making the national news as voter fraud in a local election has been exposed and the perpetrators have been arrested and are facing prosecution. I guess this would be considered a good thing. If so, the question would have to be asked, why is election fraud in a small town in New Mexico all important, while state election fraud, which is in reality national election fraud as the crime being committed, state by state, is the result of a national poll to determine who the GOP candidate will be, is being ignored.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has drafted a recommendation that ALL Baby Boomers (people born between 1945 and 1965) be tested for the hepatitis C virus and subsequently vaccinated.

The CDC estimates 800,000 people are infected and being vaccinated could save 120,000 lives.

The Baby Boomers are being targeted because of the rampant drug use in the '80s with needles, as well as blood transfusions that were in great use during the '90s; before blood screening was common place.

The CDC says this “generational epidemic” will claim more Baby Boomers unless they are vaccinated...

The facility in Apollo and another one in nearby Parks Township, initially built by the Nuclear Materials and Equipment Corporation (NUMEC) in 1957 and later bought by the Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) and then by Babcock & Wilcox, closed in 1986. Left behind were contaminated land and water and sick and dead residents. Victims and their families sued the companies in the mid-1990s for damages suffered, and ARCO and Babcock & Wilcox were forced to pay $80 million to compensate victims for cancers and loss of property value. Sadly, by the time the lawsuits were settled, in 2008 and 2009, 40 percent of the claimants had died.
