Pepe Escobar On Blowback After Blowback For The "Empire Of Chaos"

At present, the choice between the two available models on the planet seems stark indeed: Eurasian integration or a spreading empire of chaos.

At the same moment that China is proposing a new Eurasian integration, Washington has opted for an “empire of chaos,” a dysfunctional global system now breeding mayhem and blowback across the Greater Middle East into Africa and even to the peripheries of Europe.

Don’t rule out a change in the dynamics of the situation, however. In the long run, it seems to be in the cards. One day, Germany may lead parts of Europe away from NATO’s “logic,” since German business leaders and industrialists have an eye on their potentially lucrative commercial future in a new Eurasia. Strange as it might seem amid today’s war of words over Ukraine, the endgame could still prove to involve a Berlin-Moscow-Beijing alliance.

Cops Handcuff & Shackle 4-Year-Old Boy, Haul Him Off to Jail for a Temper Tantrum

A four-year-old little boy was handcuffed and then shackled by the local sheriff and taken away in a squad car, after the principal at Nathanael Greene Primary School failed to calm him down.

Back in October the boy allegedly threw blocks, climbed over desks, hit, scratched, and kicked the principal and the director of special education. Unable to gain control of a 4-year-old, the school made the ridiculous decision to call a sheriff’s deputy who is assigned to the schools.

“The boy was out of control, basically, throwing his arms around and kicking– trying to kick the deputy, trying to run away, and the deputy felt that putting the handcuffs on him was for his safety as well as everybody else’s,” County Sheriff Steven Smith said.

Tracy Wood, the boy’s mother, says the school called her to pick up her son, but when she got there, police had already taken him to the station.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So they had no better tools to calm the kid down than police handcuffs and leg shackles?!?

I have worked with special needs kids many years ago, and there are many, many other ways to calm a kid down who is acting like this.

That they believed they had no better tools than the ones they used says volumes about elementary education in this country, and demonstrates a real lack of teacher training to deal with temperamental children.

An 18-year-old black man was shot and killed by police late on Tuesday at a gas station in a St. Louis suburb near where unarmed teen Michael Brown was killed by a white officer in August, police and local media said.

A video feed showed the gas station cordoned off by yellow tape and guarded by police, some in helmets and carrying riot shields, with bystanders shouting at them in a tense standoff.

NYPD Union President Patrick Lynch Is Completely Nuts: A History

Patrick Lynch is the 51-year-old president of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, the largest and most influential union of the New York City Police Department. You might recognize his name: Over the weekend, Lynch blamed Bill de Blasio for the Saturday deaths of two Brooklyn cops who were murdered by a lone gunman from Georgia. “That blood on the hands,” he said at a press conference, “starts on the steps of City Hall, in the office of the mayor.”

To understand why he would say something so wrong and inflammatory, you need to delve into Lynch’s long, checkered history of issuing similarly insane statements. His public declarations over the past 15 years are essentially pro-police agitprop: Cops can do no wrong, while victims of their state-sanctioned violence always had it coming. They are also a deep well of masculine anxiety, hurt feelings, and barely disguised racism.

Here are some of Lynch’s greatest hits. Please consult them whenever he opens his mouth in the future.

Protesters to Defy De Blasio, Plan to ‘Shut Down’ Fifth Ave. in New York

Protesters in New York City plan to “shut down” 5th Avenue, a main shopping area in Manhattan, tonight. The call to do so happens after New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio asked for any protests to stop until both recently murdered NYPD officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu are buried this weekend.

According to reports, The Answer Coalition said it would go through with the march, which it says was planned long before Saturday night’s murders. They denounced the mayor for asking for a moratorium on protests, saying that would be an “outrageous” attempt to chill free speech.

Christmas in Munich

It was Christmas 1985. I recall the year clearly because only a month later the shuttle Challenger exploded during launch. I know that may seem like a strange anchor for a Christmas memory, but only a few months before I had briefly worked with one of the Challenger astronauts on a computer flight simulation project at the Houston Manned Spacecraft Center, and my company had now sent me to help set up production facilities in Munich and Milan.

Obama Administration Aims to Create ‘Insider Threat’ Job Specialty to Plug Leaks

A New Year’s goal of the federal office responsible for averting employee leaks is to make a career out of catching so-called insider threats.

It is a delicate task to simultaneously guard hard-working federal personnel and expose the bad apples. And it takes different talents than those one would find in a counterintelligence analyst, human resources professional or information security professional. The insider threat discipline melds all those disciplines.

"It’s a privilege to work in that program. And the only reason that you are there is to help protect your colleagues, not to out them. So, we’ve got to professionalize that workforce of people who do this for a living," said Patricia Larsen, co-director of the National Insider Threat Task Force. "They have to view themselves as part of a community."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks as though Ukraine's Poroshenko is not the only guy establishing his "Ministry of Truth: it appears that Obama's administration is equally as paranoid as that of Poroshenko!

And a memo to this Administration: the way not to have insider leaks is to do everything above-board, and do the things which are morally right, and not just for the benefit of the few, and monied.

This concept is such a simple, easy one that even a child can understand it.

A Message From a Protestor and Former Cop: We Are Not Anti-Cop. We Are Pro-Life.

To the police, I say -- come meet some of the protestors. You'll meet people fighting for life and love, and hoping that with their activism, more of their brothers and sisters will be able to live full lives without the threat of violence. We are not anti-cop; we are pro-life.

To the protestors, I say -- come meet the good men and women I served with on the police force. Mourn with them now in this trying moment. Understand that many police officers fear for their lives, too. They want to serve their city and go home each night to their families. Because our movement is fundamentally about preserving and protecting life, we can easily understand how we care for the police safety without giving up our core message that the NYPD must be reformed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These are kind, healing words from a former police officer who is a woman of faith, urging protestors and police to come together as human beings.

That may take a miracle, but is certainly not impossible.

Christmas is coming soon, and Christmas... is supposed to be a time for healing, reconciliation, and new beginnings. Community organizers and police outreach workers, how about it?!?

America is the world’s largest jailer — and its prison population is growing again: report

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why is it that Sweden is closing its prisons, while the US expanding its prison population? As reported in theguardian.net one year ago:

Although there has been no fall in crime rates, between 2011 and 2012 there was a 6% drop in Sweden’s prisoner population, now a little over 4,500. A similar decrease is expected this year and the next. Oberg admitted to being puzzled by the unexpected dip, but expressed optimism that the reason was to do with how his prisons are run. “We certainly hope that the efforts we invest in rehabilitation and preventing relapse of crime has had an impact,” he said. The Swedes still managed to maintain a broadly humane approach to sentencing, even of the most serious offenders: jail terms rarely exceed 10 years; those who receive life imprisonment can still apply to the courts after a decade to have the sentence commuted to a fixed term, usually in the region of 18 to 25 years. Sweden was the first country in Europe to introduce the electronic tagging of convicted criminals and continues to strive to minimise short-term prison sentences wherever possible by using community-based measures – proven to be more effective at reducing reoffending.

The truth of the business is, the US prison system is great at punishing, but lousy at rehabilitation, which keeps the recidivism rate high, and the dollars for prisons gushing into state and Federal budgets.

Sweden puts the US to shame in this area, because their focus is so deeply on both rehabilitation, and preventing recidivism.

Washington’s Lies About TARP’s “Success” Are Worse Than The Original Bailouts

The mainstream economics narrative is so far down the monetary rabbit hole that the blinding clarity of the chart below has no chance whatsoever of seeing the light of day. That’s because it dramatizes the real truth regarding all the Fed gibberish about “accommodation” and “stimulus”. Namely, that what lies beneath its “extraordinary measures”, such as ZIRP, QE, wealth effects and the rest of the litany, is a central banking regime that systematically destroy savers. Period.

Suppose that after 40 years of skimping and penny pinching this now retired household wished to keep it’s funds in safe and liquid six month CDs. Well, as shown below, according to the writ of Bernanke and Yellen, the interest earned last year on $100,0000 would have amounted to the munificent sum of $1.07 per day—–before bank fees, inflation and taxes. Yes, after 40 years of thrift, our retiree could afford—-from the entire return on his nest egg—– a Starbucks cappuccino about once every three days!

Webmaster's Commentary:

Inflation and fees eat away at savings to the point where the idea of saving money becomes punitive. This is to push people into stocks.

But unfortunately, even with the new highs on the Dow, the markets are strongly overdue for a major correction; it is not a matter of if, but when.

Innocent Man Tasered, Beaten While Naked In the Shower and Framed Later

“While I had my hands up naked in the shower they shot me with a 40 millimeter non-lethal round,” said Chadwick.

A second stun grenade soon followed.

“I turned away, the explosion went off, I opened my eyes the lights are out and here comes a shield with four or five guys behind it. They pinned me against the wall and proceeded to beat the crap out of me,” said Chadwick.

That’s when officers shot the unarmed Chadwick in the back of the head with a Taser at point blank range.

“They claimed I drew down with a shampoo bottle and a body wash bottle,” said Chadwick . . .

“They grabbed me by my the one hand that was out of the shower and grabbed me by my testicles slammed me on my face on the floor and proceeded to beat me more.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

I so lovehow police departments around the country are interpreting the phrase "to protect and serve" these days.

What this man desperately needed was to be very gently taken into custody for a complete psych evaluation. Threatening that he had a shotgun did not help either, but the SWAT team, after thoroughly searching his home, and finding no such gun, should have collectively had the horse sense to realize that this statement was made in a drunken stupor.

Ferguson Prosecutor Gives Free Pass To Witnesses Who Lied Before Grand Jury

The St. Louis prosecutor in charge of the Ferguson grand jury today acknowledged that witnesses “absolutely lied under oath” before the panel, but said that none of the perjurers--including the unmasked "Witness 40"--would face criminal charges.

During a KTRS radio interview, Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch said that, “Early on I decided that anyone who claimed to have witnessed anything would be presented to the grand jury,” even if investigators questioned their truthfulness.

McCulloch (seen above left) said that he opted to present “anybody and everybody” to the grand jury, adding that it was the responsibility of panel members to judge the credibility of individual witnesses.

Referring to “Witness 40,” whom TSG identified this week as a 45-year-old St. Louis woman named Sandra McElroy, McCulloch said she “clearly wasn’t present” when Michael Brown was shot to death by Officer Darren Wilson.

Blackwater Lobbyist Will Manage House Intelligence Committee

After lobbyist-run SuperPACs and big money efforts dominated the last election, legislators are now appointing lobbyists to literally manage the day-to-day affairs of Congress. For the House Intelligence Committee, which oversees government intelligence operations and agencies, the changing of the guard means a lobbyist for Academi, the defense contractor formerly known as Blackwater, is now in charge.

Congressman Devin Nunes (R-CA), the incoming chairman of the Intelligence Committee when the House reconvenes in January, announced that Jeff Shockey will be the new Staff Director of the committee. As a paid representative of Academi, Shockey and his firm have earned $80,000 this year peddling influence on behalf of Academi.

Debt Collectors Hound Millions of Retired Americans

It may be hard to imagine Grandma unable to pay her bills or Grandpa being hounded by debt collectors. But for millions of Americans, this is the harsh reality of retirement.

Faced with a fixed income and constantly rising cost of living, many seniors now spend their "golden years" juggling bills and fending off debt collectors.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) recently reported that for older Americans, debt collection is the top complaint. About one out of three complaints submitted to the agency by seniors is about debt collection. The major complaints include being hounded for medical debts currently in dispute, attempts to collect the debts of deceased family members from their relatives, and illegal threats to garnish Social Security and other federal benefits.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The alleged "golden years" for America's seniors no longer exist.

Many of them will have to work until they croak, particularly in terms of paying off medical bills. After that, their still living spouses will get harassed, and ultimately, their estates, will get hammered.

Ismaaiyl Brinsley identified as suspect in shooting of 2 NYC officers

A gunman who announced online that he was planning to shoot two "pigs" in retaliation for the police chokehold death of Eric Garner ambushed two officers in a patrol car and shot them to death in broad daylight Saturday before running to a subway station and killing himself, authorities said.

The suspect, 28-year-old Ismaaiyl Brinsley, wrote on an Instagram account: "I'm putting wings on pigs today. They take 1 of ours, let's take 2 of theirs," officials said. He used the hashtags #Shootthepolice #RIPErivGardner (sic) #RIPMikeBrown.

Police said he approached the passenger window of a marked police car and opened fire, striking officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu in the head. The New York Police Department officers were on special patrol doing crime reduction work in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn.

"They were, quite simply, assassinated — targeted for their uniform," said Police Commissioner Bill Bratton, who looked pale and shaken at a hospital news conference.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My sympathies go to the familes of these officers, as they do to the familes of police violence. It was only a matter of time before officers started being targeting. But the same offocialdom that condones police murder of civilians as "in line with department policy" will take a very different view of these executions, and escalate the violance against the general public.

Head of Stratfor, ‘Private CIA,’ Says Overthrow of Yanukovych Was ‘The Most Blatant Coup in History’

In a December 19th interview in the Russian magazine Kommersant, George Friedman, who is the Founder and CEO of Stratfor, the ‘Shadow CIA’ firm, says of the overthrow of Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovych that occurred on February 22nd of 2014: “It really was the most blatant coup in history.” Perhaps he is saying this because of the videos that were uploaded to the Web which showed it to be so, but this statement by him contradicts the description that is asserted by the U.S. White House and the European Union, and the Western press, which description is that Yanukovych’s overthrow was instead just the result of the U.S. Government’s $5+ billion expense since 1991 to establish ‘democracy’ in Ukraine.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US government's narrative, and what actually took place in the coup d'etat, orchestrated by the IMF, the US, and Western Europe, are worlds apart here.

Yes, Viktor Yanukovych, the last duly elected president of Ukraine was so crooked that he had to screw his socks on in the morning; however Poroshenko is absolutely no better, only Western-centric.

And let us be very clear on one issue; after the coup, Crimea, through what was observed to a free and fair referendum, decided to join the Russian Federation; Russia did absolutely nothing wrong here, and traditionally, before the 1950's, Crimea was long considered a part of Russia.

Okay, it's no secret that the MPAA hates Google. It doesn't take a psychology expert to figure that out. But in the last few days, some of the leaks from the Sony Pictures hack have revealed the depths of that hatred, raising serious questions about how the MPAA abuses the legal process in corrupt and dangerous ways. The most serious charge -- unfortunately completely buried by this report at The Verge -- is that it appears the MPAA and the major Hollywood studios directly funded various state Attorneys General in their efforts to attack and shame Google. Congress extends dozens of tax breaks

The US Senate approved a sweeping package of tax breaks, sending to President Barack Obama a bill that allows individuals and corporations to save billions of dollars on their 2014 taxes.

On the Senate’s final day of the year, lawmakers passed some 55 so-called tax extenders, deductions that expired at the end of 2013 but will be retroactively restored with the current legislation.

The Senate easily passed the measure, 76 votes to 16, after the House passed it earlier this month.

Nothing shows more clearly just how little Americans have learned than their foreign policies. Belligerent, trigger-happy and naive, in recent years the blundering motivation behind them has been compounded by a naked desire to prosecute energy (and other raw materials) imperialism that will satisfy the infinite greed of its dominant neoliberal franchise.

What never ceases to baffle me is the American citizen surprise when, on going abroad (and over 74% of them never do) they discover the profound degree to which US interference in other people’s affairs has made them widely loathed. It is equalled in my experience only by the inability of Germans to understand why they get poor service in Greek restaurants.

Sony hit with class action suit over hacked employee info

On Monday, attorneys representing two former Sony workers filed paperwork in United States District Court for the Central District of California asking that a jury be assembled to weigh in on what could become a class action lawsuit between upwards of 15,000 current and past employees and the major motion picture company over the massive security breach suffered earlier this month.

According to the class action complaint, Sony should have been better prepared to protect against the hackers who recently pilfered troves of company data, especially in light of similar lapses suffered by the company in years past.

Threatened New York Times journalist ordered to appear in court - report

A federal judge has ordered New York Times reporter James Risen to appear in court to answer questions about his book on CIA efforts to subvert Iran’s nuclear program. Risen has long resisted government threats over his refusal to reveal a book source.

According to an anonymous US official cited by CBS, prosecutors will ask Risen about his 2006 book, "State of War," as well as two New York Times articles in late 2001 and early 2002.

“They will ask him to confirm that both the book and articles are accurate, as far as he knows,” CBS reported.

The Tuesday order comes days after the US Department of Justice decided not to force Risen to reveal an intelligence community source in “State of War.” Risen had been told repeatedly by the US government that he would have to offer evidence about who gave him the information, but he has refused to officially provide the name of his source, saying that it would be a breach of his civil liberties and press freedom.

Family of John Crawford files wrongful death suit against police, Walmart

The family of John Crawford filed a federal lawsuit claiming Ohio police officers and Walmart were negligent in his death. A grand jury failed to indict the officers involved, but video footage appeared to contradict the police’s version of events.

In the suit, the family’s lawyer argues the Beavercreek Walmart was at fault for allowing the Crosman MK-177, which resembles an AR-15 rifle, to be left unlocked on a shelf for two days. That mistake led John Crawford III, 22 years old, to pick up the gun on August 5 and walk around the store freely — an act that led to the tragic killing of the father of two young children when a shopper made a 9/11 call to which police responded.

The True Story Of The Secret Christmas Miracle!

My 8th Christmas, like the 7 before it, was spent in the rural Farmlands of New Hampshire just north of the state capital of Concord. Our little town of Loudon, long ago bypassed by the new turnpike, remained locked in a small but comfortable time warp away from the hustle of the more modern times that surrounded us. Each winter, we lived the Christmases that Normal Rockwell painted and Currier & Ives printed.

Wintertime, by and large, was a wonderful time for adventurous boys. Unlike the rest of the year filled with hard dirt and stone, the winterscape is malleable, subject to the will and direction of 8 year old hands that lost no time in the construction of snow men, snow women, snow dogs, igloos, and the inevitable snow forts from which to launch that most safest and humane of warfare against the similar edifice in the neighboring yard.

I love making that reference because it makes those who have never ventured gnash their teeth and howl out of their unconfirming absence of any experience whatsoever of that which is known and verified by indigenous peoples the world over. Here is an interesting ticket concerning this. Those cultures abstaining from a general engagement with this sort of thing (for the most part) and rather relying on the inspiration of alcoholic ‘spirits’, are all manifest expressions of materialism at its most intense level and those cultures that do engage nearly all reflect a much smaller presence of materialism.

Obama under fire for castigating Bush-era torture program and claiming moral high ground all while his administration kills 'thousands of innocents' during droning of terrorism suspects

President Barack Obama is under fire this week for the way his White House has excoriated the previous administration for employing tactics it would categorize as torture all the while launching drone strikes on terrorism suspects abroad.

The enhanced interrogation techniques used by the CIA during the George W. Bush administration on 39 detainees resulted in just one death, Obama's critics have pointed out. Drone strikes conducted by the current occupant of the White House have killed more than 2,400 people.

After claiming all week that the release of a Senate Intelligence Committee report detailing the brutal tactics employed by the Bush administration to elicit information from terrorists was necessary in order for the U.S. to reassert it's 'moral authority,' the White House was forced on Friday to state on record that it doesn't believe its drone policy erodes the moral high ground on which it thinks it stands when it comes to human rights.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This man is seriously, and dangerously, out of touch with the carnage his drone strike policy has caused, and the damage it has done to world perception of American jurisprudence.

Torture is absolutely wrong, and the only people who defend it are sick, twisted pieces of work who probably belong in an institution.

But extrajudicial assassinations are completely contrary to both the spirit, and literal interpretations, of the Constitution, and Bill of Rights. They are un-American in the extreme, in a society where presumption of innocence is the basis upon which all suspected criminals are to be judged by a jury of their peers.

It is an interesting psychological insight into our President that this is his preferred method of killing people he deems "dangerous".

US Defense Bill, Passed by Congress, Bans Transfer of Guantanamo Prisoners

The National Defense Authorization Act, passed by the US Senate 89-11 on Friday, would fund the US Department of Defense through fiscal year 2015, but it prohibits the department from transferring prisoners from the notorious Guantanamo Bay prison, despite US President Barack Obama's promises to close down the detention facility.

Webmaster's Commentary:

How bloody convenient.

Innocent men who will NEVER be released from Gitmo, because water boarding was not the worst of what was done to them, languishing behind bars for the rest of their lives.

Apparently, this has become "The American Way" of treating prisoners of war; and it is not all that dissimilar from the way alleged "law enforcement officers" treat the American general public.

Would I, as a law-abiding citizen, minding my own business, EVER call the police right now if I thought something criminal was going on in my neighborhood?!?

I rather think not. Innocent people in this country are getting slaughtered in this country, just for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. And before you criticize that outlook, please consider the following, as reported yesterday at blacklistednews.com:

Acting on a bogus tip about methamphetamine from a car thief, the Laurens County Sheriff’s office obtained a search warrant for the home of devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, David Hooks. An hour after the judge signed the warrant police raided Hooks’ house and took the life of this innocent grandfather. An attorney representing David Hooks’ widow says that the September 24, shooting did not go down as law enforcement authorities stated in initial news releases, and the “true facts of this tragedy are in stark contrast” to official accounts. At approximately 11:00 pm on September 24, Laurens County Sheriff’s deputies barged unannounced into the home of Hooks. The sheriff’s office claims Hooks was shot after he got out a firearm and started showing aggression. Hooks was met with 17 shots from SWAT officers. Since the Free Thought Project initially reported on this killing by police in October, recent revelations show that not only were no shots fired, but the shotgun wasn’t even loaded. Even if the shotgun would have been load and Hooks would have shot at the officers, he had every right, as he was protecting his wife and home from, who he perceived to be unannounced intruders, who obviously meant him harm. Police, adamant on trying to justify their breaking and entering and subsequent murder, searched the home for 44 straight hours and didn’t find one single shred of contraband. Mitchell Shook is the attorney for the family and he is asking for the FBI to investigate, citing that the raid was illegal. According to WMAZ, the family’s attorney says Hooks had four wounds, two of which he says are very problematic. Shook says that’s according to the Laurens County EMS records. He says the same information is found in the medical records from Fairview Park Hospital. “One was to the side of the head, the other, was in his back, the back of his left shoulder, based on the evidence we see, we believe that David Hooks was face down on the ground when he received those last two shots,” says Shook. Teresa Hooks who is still experiencing a nightmare inflicted upon her by those sworn to protect and serve, recalls that horrid night.

I would like to be able to even think that this raid, and other ones like it, where there is no true vetting of the information to begin with, are abberations in law enforcement; unfortunately, they are becoming much more standard.

I live in a world where anything is possible but only certain things are probable. I’m not in a position to say one way or the other whether this tale is true. Speaking on this order of things, Mr. Visible is watching the latest Transformers film and oh… what an excruciating turd it is. It is most notable for the acting chops of the not ready for Bay Watch blonde who plays Marc Wahlberg’s daughter. Not since Sophia Copola in Godfather 3 have I seen someone with so little acting ability. That she is connected or that she paid in the coin of her realm for the role is without a doubt. I became fascinated while watching her perform. “Can it possibly be as bad as it looks?” I ask myself. The response is not long in coming, “It is worse.”

Defense Bill Passes, Giving Sacred Native American Sites To Mining Company

The U.S. Senate passed a measure authorizing the nation’s defense programs Friday, and along with it managed to give lands sacred to Native Americans to a foreign company that owns a uranium mine with Iran.

The $585 billion National Defense Authorization Act of 2015 is one of the must-pass pieces of legislation that Congress moves every year. But like they did in attaching extraneous riders to the must-pass government funding bill, lawmakers used the defense bill as a vehicle to pass a massive public lands package.

The bill sailed through on a vote of 89 to 11.

Many of the land measures were popular. But one, the Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act, had twice failed to win support in the House of Representatives, blocked both by conservationists and conservatives.

Webmaster's Commentary:

You've got to wonder how many members of the Senate own shares in this company. Oh, and about the country's "environmental record", if one can call it that?!?!

The following seems to be pretty damned representative of this:

Me’ekamui, the ‘Sacred Island’ of Bougainville is seen by its people as a natural, God-given inheritance to be willfully preserved from generation to generation. These indigenous people flourished here for thousands of years—thriving on the island’s rich resources of rain forested land and teeming rivers. Generations of Bougainvilleans built their culture into a productive self-sufficient economy. Since time immemorial, land on Bougainville has been owned on a clan basis, being passed down from mother to daughter. Land boundaries are well known, and have been respected for thousands of years. According to custom, clans hold the rights to the land, the sky above and the earth below. Disrespecting this longtime custom, corporate greed bloodied the heart and soul of Bougainville with the construction of the Panguana mine. Desperate Survival Once Rio Tinto set foot on their land in 1960, the villagers witnessed almost an immediate sense of loss. Their health, environmental resources and livelihood were forsaken for corporate gain. Almost immediately, the Bougainvilleans fell sick from exposure to the mine’s toxins, chemicals and air pollutants. Upper respiratory infections such as Asthma and TB became more common, and even killed people. Children became ill with coughs, colds and chronic ear infections. Many women even died giving birth, because of the lack of basic medicine and care. As Rio Tinto ravaged the island mining for copper, the company dumped waste rock and tailings, turning the river valleys into a virtual wasteland. Fish and whole forests died, depleting the villagers of their major food source, and eliminating their cash cropping systems. The villagers lost their property due to ongoing environmental contamination. Their water became non-potable, and they were forced to come up with other resources for survival. Unable to live this way, the people pleaded to Rio Tinto to give them control of their own land surrounding the mine. When Rio Tinto ignored their request, the Bougainvilleans united in the name of their culture and fought for their right to their inherent resources. The Bougainvilleans’ fight for their rights left many people dead and many more injured. Three entire principal villages were relocated, and many life-long inhabitants were forced to flee the island. - See more at: http://the-truth-reveal.blogspot.com/2007/09/rio-tinto-environmental-destruction.html#sthash.SNSrWetU.dpuf

And then, there's this lovely little story from Mongolia:

The Network is focusing support in Mongolia, where Rio Tinto has invested billions and mine workers are particularly vulnerable. The company has a US $6 billion investment in the vast Oyu Tolgoi copper and gold mine in the Gobi Desert. Workers there are represented by IndustriALL affiliate the Federation of Energy, Geology and Mining Workers’ Trade Unions of Mongolia (MEGM). Last year, Rio Tinto was condemned by the Supreme Court in Mongolia for wage discrimination against Mongolian nationals and unfair dismissal. The company also faced international criticism for sacking thousands of workers in the country without adequate consultation. ndustriALL assistant general secretary Kemal Özkan says that with the campaign, IndustriALL Global Union aims to build union power at Rio Tinto plants around the world, uniting workers in the struggle for decent work: “Rio Tinto has extensive experience in causing one conflict after another with trade unions, indigenous organizations, environmental groups and other key community stakeholders. Unions and civil society are coming together in an unprecedented way to push back against Rio Tinto for the benefit of workers, the environment and communities.” “For far too long, Rio Tinto has systematically put profits before people, sometimes with fatal consequences like the recent deaths at the Grasberg mine in Papua New Guinea. Workers are saying enough is enough,” says Kemal Özkan. The Network meeting follows a global day of protests on 7 October as as part of IndustriALL’s campaign to demand a new era at Rio Tinto.

More slow genocide for America's First Nations: more profit for a company whose "contributions", most likely, have lead to the electoral success of many of those senators voting for this rider.

Former Anderson cop sentenced – again – on rape charge

A former Anderson police officer who admitted raping a woman in his custody was sentenced Friday in Sacramento federal court to five years in prison, based on his guilty plea of violating the woman’s civil rights.

Bryan Robert Benson, 30, was originally charged in 2011 in Shasta Superior Court with rape and kidnapping, and would have faced life in prison had he been convicted. Instead, he was sentenced to 364 days in jail after pleading no contest to felony assault by a police officer and to soliciting a lewd act, a misdemeanor.

Shasta County prosecutors said at the time that the outcome was dictated by a loophole in the law that would have allowed Benson’s lawyers to argue the sex was consensual because the woman had not yet been booked into jail.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This loophole in California law should be fixed, and right the hell now.

I don't think I will ever visit California again, if this is the police's interpretation of "to protect and serve", even if I do not indulge in the kinds of activities which got this woman arrested in the first place.

Spain passes tough new 'anti-protest' law

Spain on Thursday finally passed its new controversial Citizen Security Law which opponents say will severely limit civil liberties in the country.

The unpopular law contains retains existing fines of up to €600,000 ($746,000) for unauthorized protests outside buildings "which provide basic services to the community", a definition that encompasses everything from hospitals to universities and the Spanish parliament.

The new law, which the government argues will ensure public security, also forbids the photographing or filming of police officers in situations where doing so could put them in danger. This could result in a fine of up to €30,000. Showing a "lack of respect" to those in uniform, meanwhile, could lead to a fine of €600.

The law has been dubbed the 'ley mordaza' or 'gag law' by opposition groups and the Spanish media, many of whom believe the law will curtail individual rights.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Spain's government appears to be re-embracing its fascist past, just as the US government is embracing its fascist present, and future.

Pension plans to be looted nationwide as Congress okays institutional theft of funds

When societies approach collapse, coercion shifts to outright theft: Stealing money right out of your bank account, for example, like we recently witnessed in Cyprus. Government also routinely target pension funds and even private retirement accounts, attempting to keep itself afloat by any means necessary.

Just like clockwork, that looting of pension plans is now about to commence. "Congress could soon allow the benefits of current retirees to be cut as part of an agreement to address the fiscal distress confronting some of the nation's 1,400 multi-employer pension plans," writes Michael Fletcher of the Washington Post. [1] The Post continues:

"This proposal would devastate retirees and their surviving spouses," said Karen Friedman, executive vice president of the Pension Rights Center, a nonprofit group. "The proposal would also torpedo basic protections of the federal private pension law ... that states that once benefits are earned, they can't be cut back."

A short memo to Joe Walsh: sir, your amazingly studied lack of understanding of what the use of torture does to the perception of what this country is, both at home and abroad, is, to put it mildly, stunning.

When America either tortures prisoners of war, or outsources it to some third world thugs, the following happens.

1. People understand that, at the top levels of US government, those very values that used to put us in a unique place as a people and a country, those values including human rights, human dignity, and decency are simply discarded.

2. That there are some really emotionally twisted pieces of work at the highest levels of US government, who get off on doing/watching this kind of torture being done. I would suspect, sir, that you may well be one of those people.

Humankind has known, from the time of the Catholic Inquisition, that torture only gets the tortured individual to say what the torturer wants them to stay in order to get the torture to stop.

One of the master interrogators of World War II was the German Hans Scharff. Instead of using torture, he used what information he could gather from the POW's backgrounds. as reported at worldwarhistoryonline:

Hanns Scharff (left) always made sure he knew about the personal circumstances of prisoners of war before interrogating them Much of the debate about the interrogation of suspected terrorists has been about whether the methods used, such as waterboarding, could be described as torture. Historian Julian Putkowski examines how a German Luftwaffe interrogator used persuasion rather than punishment to get prisoners of war to talk. During the latter part of World War II lots of allied fliers got shot down over Germany. Many of the survivors - or terrorfliegers as they were termed by the Nazis - got rounded up and were dispatched to Luftwaffe's interrogation unit at Dulag Luft POW Camp, near Oberursel. After being marched into the camp, they were placed in solitary confinement and in spite of the provisions of the Geneva Convention, they anticipated rough handling, possibly having their fingernails torn off by Nazi torturers. Aircrew who anticipated a Gestapo-style battering were in for a surprise when they encountered Obergefreiter Hanns Scharff, who had acquired fluent English when working as a businessman in pre-war South Africa. Although his inscrutability secured him the nick-name Stone Face, he was otherwise a genial fellow. He was a self-taught interrogator who used persuasion rather than punishment as a strategy for getting Allied prisoners of war to disclose more than the customary name, rank and number, permitted by the Geneva Convention. Scharff always began by doing his homework thoroughly. Before commencing an interrogation session, he checked all available data, generally acquainting himself with whatever was known about the pilot's service and personal circumstances. The Scharff method, if so it may be called, relied on the initial premise that it was better for a flier to co-operate with the Luftwaffe, instead of being regarded as a spy and handed over to the Gestapo. Even though there were a few prisoners who remained button-lipped, Scharff resolutely refused to descend to using physical coercion. Instead of using pliers to squeeze information out of prisoners, Scharff got what he and his superiors wanted by playing on a prisoner's sense of isolation and psychological insecurity. Carefully deploying what were sometimes meagre scraps of data, Scharff sought to create the illusion of total knowledge about a prisoner's activities. Misled into believing that the interrogator knew just about everything anyway, the latter could then be bamboozled into disclosing military secrets. Scharff appeared to reverse the overtly adversarial relationship between interrogator and prisoner by adopting a subtle, softly-softly approach.

3. And Joe, I would like to strongly caution you on your mindless cheerleading of CIA torture: when the US tortures, it gives some bad guys who don't necessarily like us very much carte blanche to torture both American military members, and American civilians. Did that notion ever cross your mind?!?

Thought not

Remember: Hitler praised the Gestapo and the SS as "heroes".

Welcome to the Recovery – McKinsey Survey Shows 40% of Americans Living Paycheck to Paycheck, Up From 31% in 2012

Nothing screams economic recovery like 2 out of every 5 Americans living paycheck to paycheck. Especially when that number has reportedly increased by 33% since 2012.

Perhaps someone should inform these destitute plebs that the stock market is up nearly 45% over the past two years, and after all, nothing says economic success like the 0.01% enriching themselves via fraud and financial engineering.

Here are two of the most sobering findings from the survery:

40 percent of the consumers we surveyed said they are coping with the challenge of living paycheck to paycheck, up from 31 percent in 2012.

Today just 23 percent say they are optimistic about the economy, down from 27 percent at the beginning of the recession in 2009.

Here We Go Again – the Effective Repeal of Dodd-Frank As Xmas Gift to Bankers?

The high-flying banks are at it again. There has been lobbying going on to sneak a clause in the continuing resolution to fund the government over the holidays for the December 11th deadline. The provision they are trying to sneak in would allow the banks to trade derivatives through subsidiaries that are federally insured by the FDIC. In other words, they are circumventing the very reforms of the 2007-2009 crash.

CBS2 Exclusive: $20,000 In Loot Allegedly Taken From Checked Luggage By JFK Bag Handlers

Seven John F. Kennedy International Airport baggage handlers were arrested Wednesday, on allegations that they stole out of travelers’ luggage.

As Dick Brennan reported, CBS2 got an exclusive look at the loot that baggage handlers were allegedly taking for themselves. The items included cellphones, iPads, laptops, jewelry and other items worth a grand total of more than $20,000.

The items were taken from travelers’ checked luggage between March 2012 and June 2014, Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said Wednesday.

“The defendants have been caught red handed and will now face the consequences of their alleged illegal acts,” said Brown.

States Move Forward With Plan To Alter Constitution

A very important meeting is being held in Washington this week, but career politicians, lobbyists and most in the media don't want you to know about it.

More than 100 state legislators from around the country are meeting at the Naval Heritage Center. The Assembly of State Legislatures (ASL) will discuss the rules for the first-ever Article V Constitutional amendment convention. This is their third meeting. They're preparing to take on Washington, and Congress doesn't like it.

The Framers of the Constitution had the foresight to anticipate what Congress has become: a dysfunctional mess. In Article V they wisely provided a means for the states to step in and amend the Constitution largely without congressional approval.

The state legislators in ASL are determined to convene an amendment convention. Our situation is that dire.

Cops mock Garner with #WeCanBreathe tweet

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department attracted scrutiny over the weekend for a tweet that seemed to mock Eric Garner, the black man killed by New York City police in July by means many, including protesters nationwide, have deemed excessive.

In response to criticism over arrests made during protests in Indianapolis over a grand jury’s decision not to indict a New York officer for Garner’s death, Kendale Adams, a public information officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), tweeted Thursday evening from the IMPD’s Twitter feed “…communication with those involved was peaceful and appropriate but some opted for arrest by #choice, #WeCanBreathe.”

The hashtag #WeCanBreathe is a reference to Garner’s last words: Video of the incident shows that Garner said “I can’t breathe” 11 times as he was put into a chokehold by NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo.

NATO Prepositions Weapons in Poland for Attack on Russia

The lengthiest excerpt from the article that’s online is at NATO’s own site, the PR delivered straight from the horses’ mouth, http://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/natosource/russia-fears-prompt-na..., which posting there is certainly validation that the article represents NATO’s position accurately, even if it does so in ‘appropriately’ vague terms. (Of course, that’s not “appropriate” for readers, but for NATO, which is the weapons-manufacturers’ trade-organization, that’s being served in this ‘news’ story.)

Webmaster's Commentary:

A NATO-led war against Russia would be utterly disastrous for the West; and if you have a difficult time of wrapping your head around that, just look at the incredible "victory" NATO has wrested from the rebels in Afghanistan, 13 years on. Their "contribution" to the US war effort here has been one very sick joke.

And please don't get me started on the aftermath of their "victory" in Libya, with the ouster of Gaddafi, which has only exacerbated the instability here, to the point where various African countries are tag-teaming their military to control the insurgents. The future of Libya is still very much up in the air.

To put it plainly, NATO and the US do not have the money, the troop strength, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a war with Russia; and this is what makes the military confrontation scenario so scary.

And in terms of Russia's manufacturing and purchasing of war equipment, although they are not spending as much as the US government, the Russians are getting a lot more bang for their buck than does the US.

A war against Russia would be the last, desperate act of a criminally insane Western leadership.

Secretive Pro-Corporate Trade Deal Could Endanger Health, Labor, Environment

The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is being sold as the world’s biggest trade agreement, with the potential to affect hundreds of millions of Americans and Europeans. So why is it being negotiated in near-total secrecy?

The pact has European food, labor and other advocates up in arms. They say the deal, known by its TTIP acronym, benefits corporations at the expense of the public.

Among the more grave potential consequences: environmental damage, reduced financial regulation, and the placement of corporate rights above those of sovereign nations.

Amid all the hush-hush, one fact stands out: a big place at the negotiating table has been reserved for lobbyists who represent multinational corporations. This has allowed them to argue against including in the final treaty a number of consumer-friendly regulations and standards.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Should this agreement come to fruition, you can bet on two things happening: it will be terrific for multinationals, and completely lousy for We the People.

Senator Jay Rockefeller singlehandedly kills Freedom of Information Act reform

The House unanimously passed a bill that would bring much-needed improvements to the Freedom of Information Act; the Senate had bi-partisan support for it, too -- but outgoing Sen Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) singlehandedly killed the bill in a closed-door committee meeting.

For 509 other members of Congress, these concerns were not enough to halt progress of much-needed reforms. It’s not clear which provisions the Senator is referring to, or what experts across the federal government he is referring to, because this short statement, issued at 6:30 PM on Friday after a full day of advocates, journalists and citizens asking for an explanation, doesn’t explain.

Chicago Cops Use Stingray to Intercept Protester’s Conversations, Leaked Audio Reveals

An audio recording leaked by the hacktivist group Anonymous appears to prove that Chicago police used an IMSI catcher, commonly referred to as a Stingray, to intercept phone calls during an Eric Garner protest Thursday evening.

IMSI catchers, small devices that mimic cell phone towers, give police and government agencies the ability to capture people’s cellular data in real-time. The audio, posted to the official Anonymous Twitter account Friday, reveals a conversation between the CPIC, Chicago’s Homeland Security-run Fusion Center, and a police officer spying on an alleged protest leader.

If confirmed, the revelation once again shatters claims by police departments that Stingrays are only used to stop the most heinous of crimes.

Wall Street Moves to Put Taxpayers on the Hook for Derivatives Trades

Wall Street lobbyists are trying to secure taxpayer backing for many derivatives trades as part of budget talks to avert a government shutdown.

According to multiple Democratic sources, banks are pushing hard to include the controversial provision in funding legislation that would keep the government operating after Dec. 11. Top negotiators in the House are taking the derivatives provision seriously, and may include it in the final bill, the sources said.

The bank perks are not a traditional budget item. They would allow financial institutions to trade certain financial derivatives from subsidiaries that are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. — potentially putting taxpayers on the hook for losses caused by the risky contracts. Big Wall Street banks had typically traded derivatives from these FDIC-backed units, but the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial reform law required them to move many of the transactions to other subsidiaries that are not insured by taxpayers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF there was ever a time to call Rivero's Rangers to keyboards, it is now.

Write/email/fax/phone your Congressional Representative and let them know that IF this bill is passed in this form, that you would rather have a goat, or a dog represent you, than this current cache of purchased weasels who allegedly represent you now.

And please remember: Congress no longer represents We the People; they represent Those, the Corporations. We the People have become irrelevant and expendable. That is why these idiots in Congress believe that they can get away with this crud.

Then, be pro-active. Do not have any more money in your bank than you need for paying bills. In fact, and even though it is more expensive, pay your bills with money orders if possible. There are many businesses which will still take cash, and it has not yet been made illegal to do so.

Make sure you have small amounts of gold and silver for barter. Because if Congress is about to pass legislation like this, the excrement is very near to hitting the ventilation shaft, and I mean really, really soon.

Obama's Defense Nominee: Here Comes Trouble

Ashton Carter is the typical Beltway apparatchik – profiting from the revolving door between the military, heavy industry and academia.

He advised Goldman Sachs on military technology.

He was an actor in the dismantling of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, signed by Bill Clinton, which allowed a collection of Dr. Strangeloves to go rampant on computer simulated lab tests of nuclear weapons coupled with underground tests in the Nevada desert (plutonium blown up with explosives, for instance).

He was and remains a key actor in the ever evolving “policy” of demonization of Russia.

Way back in 1996, he was totally paranoid about both Iraq and Iran non-existent WMDs.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have looked at this man's bio, which in "Washington-ese", is very impressive.

But what I do not see is any actual military experience indicating that he has ever, in his life, participated in real combat.

As someone with family which has served, and some which do currently serve in our military, the next time a Secretary of Defense is chosen, I want that person to have known real combat, from an in-the-trenches perspective.

I want them to know the cost of putting people's lives on the line, so this is not an abstraction to them.

And I want them to be keenly aware of choices and decisions this government can make which can get the geopolitical objectives won through peaceful means.

Marines to train in Los Angeles for urban combat

Dozens of Marines will be raiding buildings and shooting paintballs at each other in downtown Los Angeles to prepare troops for urban combat.

Capt. Brian Block said Thursday that the raids at several undisclosed locations in the city will be off limits to the public.

Block says the trainings are part of a two-week military exercise that starts Friday and involves about 2,400 Marines and Sailors from the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

Protests erupt in wake of chokehold death decision

Protesters are flooding the streets of New York and elsewhere -- chanting, blocking traffic and demanding change after the decision not to indict in the chokehold death of Eric Garner.

Demonstrators staged a "die-in" in Brooklyn, New York, late Thursday. They lay in the middle of Atlantic Avenue. An eerie silence descended as the protesters, who had cardboard coffins, stopped chanting.

The march was being led by three mothers, all of whom had lost a son to police. Protesters stopped other marchers from getting ahead of the women. They wanted them to walk in front.

"I'm so happy that people of all cultures, all ethnicities, came out to show their love and support, and basically we have to make a change because they're killing us off," a protester told CNN.
Garner video: What the grand jury saw

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yes, this verdict was an absolute travesty of justice, and needs to be addressed through the courts.

But we also need to have a national conversation about how police are trained in this country, with national standards on outlawing the excessive use of force in the process of arresting ANYONE.

Unfortunately, the "Israelification" of American police is not helping to moderate the situation.

As reported at rawstory.com in December of 2011:

The extreme militarization of American police forces has been brought to public attention by the tactics employed against Occupy protesters, which often appear more appropriate to counter-terrorism operations than to the control of non-violent protest. According to investigative journalist Max Blumenthal, however, the proper term for this ruthless suppression of dissent should be “Israelification.” In an article which begins with examples of American police training alongside Israeli security forces, Blumenthal writes, “Having been schooled in Israeli tactics perfected during a 63 year experience of controlling, dispossessing, and occupying an indigenous population, local police forces have adapted them to monitor Muslim and immigrant neighborhoods in US cities. Meanwhile, former Israeli military officers have been hired to spearhead security operations at American airports and suburban shopping malls, leading to a wave of disturbing incidents of racial profiling, intimidation, and FBI interrogations of innocent, unsuspecting people. The Israeli influence has been particularly strong in New York City where, Blumenthal writes, “under the leadership of Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, ties between the NYPD and Israel have deepened by the day. Kelly embarked on his first trip to Israel in early 2009 to demonstrate his support for Israel’s ongoing assault on the Gaza Strip. … Kelly returned to Israel the following year to speak at the Herziliya Conference, an annual gathering of neoconservative security and government officials who obsess over supposed ‘demographic threats.’ … Back in New York, the NYPD set up a secret ‘Demographics Unit’ designed to spy on and monitor Muslim communities around the city.” Not only dissidents but even ordinary criminals may be treated as terrorists under the Israel model, which can also include the routine use of torture. Karen Greenberg, director of Fordham School of Law’s Center on National Security, told Blumenthal, “After 9/11 we reached out to the Israelis on many fronts and one of those fronts was torture. The training in Iraq and Afghanistan on torture was Israeli training. There’s been a huge downside to taking our cue from the Israelis and now we’re going to spread that into the fabric of everyday American life? It’s counter-terrorism creep. And it’s exactly what you could have predicted would have happened.” .

This country does not need more techniques in torture, terror, or causing death to unarmed suspects; it needs a way to teach police how to de-escalate a situation, to the point where, if the suspect is unarmed, that no violence has to be used.

Otherwise, and I shudder to think of it, there will be more Fergusons, and more New Yorks, in terms of killing of unarmed, minority suspects.

We can stop this trend, but it will take enormous good will and hard work on the part of all police departments in this country, all community outreach volunteers, and the courts.

Silicon Valley clears out notorious homeless ‘Jungle’ camp

Authorities began Thursday dismantling a notorious homeless camp known as “The Jungle” in the heart of California’s affluent Silicon Valley.

Municipal workers in white overalls and face masks moved into the camp along a creek in San Jose, where some 300 people live in tents and other makeshift lodging.

The encampment, only a few minutes away from the city’s downtown district, is home to people forced out of an overheating rental market as lucrative tech companies moved in in recent years.

“We have been rehousing for the last 18 months,” San Jose city spokesman David Vossbrink told AFP, saying they had found places for some 140 people in shelters, with some in hotels and motels.

Some 60 other people had received offers of rent subsidies but have not yet found somewhere to live, he added.

The operation to close down the camp will last two or three weeks, and will include putting up a reinforced fence to prevent anyone coming back and settling in again.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am stunned that apparently, San Jose is unable to learn that there are far better ways of handling this than just chasing the indigent out of homeless encampments. As reported at nationofchange.org:

In eight years, Utah has quietly reduced homelessness by 78 percent, and is on track to end homelessness by 2015. How did Utah accomplish this? Simple. Utah solved homelessness by giving people homes. In 2005, Utah figured out that the annual cost of E.R. visits and jail stays for homeless people was about $16,670 per person, compared to $11,000 to provide each homeless person with an apartment and a social worker. So, the state began giving away apartments, with no strings attached. Each participant in Utah’s Housing First program also gets a caseworker to help them become self-sufficient, but they keep the apartment even if they fail. The program has been so successful that other states are hoping to achieve similar results with programs modeled on Utah’s. It sounds like Utah borrowed a page from Homes Not Handcuffs, the 2009 report by The National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty and The National Coalition for the Homeless. Using a 2004 survey and anecdotal evidence from activists, the report concluded that permanent housing for the homeless is cheaper than criminalization. Housing is not only more human, it’s economical. This happened in a Republican state! Republicans in Congress would probably have required the homeless to take a drug test before getting an apartment, denied apartments to homeless people with criminal records, and evicted those who failed to become self-sufficient after five years or so. But Utah’s results show that even conservative states can solve problems like homelessness with decidedly progressive solutions.

Congrats, Utah State government; what you have done in this regard is monumentally inspiring, and should give a clue to the clueless in other state and city governments about how to solve the problem of homelessness permanently, and spend much less of the state's money in the process.

Ferguson marchers met with gunfire, racial slurs, fried chicken, and a melon

A group of Ferguson protesters were met Thursday afternoon with Confederate flags, racist symbols, and gunfire as they marched through a pair of rural Missouri towns.

Counter-protesters, including children, shouted racial slurs and carried signs urging the marchers to “go home,” reported the Columbia Missourian.

Residents of Gerald and Rosebud, where the marchers arrived about noon, set up a display of fried chicken, a melon, and a 40-ounce beer bottle in the street.

Some of the counter-protesters wore improvised Ku Klux Klan hoods, and they set up homemade signs supporting law enforcement and the grand jury’s decision not to charge Darren Wilson in the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This ABSOLUTELY reeks of spook central psyops.

To the peaceful protestors wanting to get their voices heard, please, do not allow these buffoons or any others to incite you to violence; that is precisely what the Federal government would love to have happen here, nationally, to give them the excuse to suspend the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and impose martial law.

That is ABSOLUTELY THE LAST THING we need to happen right now.

Obama Administration Double-Counted Healthcare Enrollees to Meet Goal

With so much riding on the success of the Affordable Care Act, officials in the Obama administration felt it necessary to inflate the number of Americans who had signed up for health insurance.

They tried pulling off this statistical sleight of hand by combining the number of people who had purchased dental coverage on the healthcare exchanges with those buying health insurance.

Somehow, the officials didn’t think anyone would notice … despite the fact they had previously reported the dental and medical totals separately.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which oversees CMS, had to backtrack and admit that officials “erroneously” folded sign-ups for the two different plans together. “A mistake was made,” a spokesperson for HHS said in a statement, adding that, in fact, 6.7 million Americans had purchased medical coverage as of October 15.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The motto of this administration appears to be "If at first you don't succeed, lie, LIE AGAIN!!"

I'm done laughing at Obama's insanity

This has got to be a test. It can’t possibly be anything else. The way this president and government overall is blowing it so royally on an everyday basis staggers the human mind, or at least the ones that are working properly.

I suppose in a pinch we could look at it as a comedy cocktail that would be produced if Lenny Bruce, Sam Kinison, Richard Pryor, Rod Serling, Alfred Hitchcock and Alfred E. Neuman all got together to see how much horror the American people could stomach before we stopped laughing. This Twilight Zone Psycho definitely Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest one too many times.

I’m done laughing.

This can be a cold and seemingly pitiless world. I've seen some amount of that but I am certain I haven’t seen anywhere near the degree of it that some have. The sheer scale of suffering on any given day on this planet is beyond the grasp of any human imagination. Generally we do not know the extent of the suffering, or the level of depravity of the offenses because, in most cases, the news delivery systems are controlled by the people most responsible, over all, for the large majority of suffering world wide; that was some pretty messed up sentence structure but I’m going to go with it.

“Hell No”: Garner’s Wife Won’t Forgive as Protests Mount Over Choking Death

Ultimately, the rather clear case of excessive force and abuse of power by police – who were after Garner on a tax matter – will be mixed up in the larger national wave of increasingly racially divided politics.

The controversial decision comes only a week after the grand jury decision in the Michael Brown case, which led to riots, outrage and a media storm in Ferguson and beyond. However, the Brown case was much less clear cut, while video makes clear that Eric Garner was a victim who didn’t not deserve death. He did not resist arrest, and his alleged crime was too petty to cost him his life:

Israel’s didn’t perform well in the last round of violence. The IDF didn’t achieve a single military objective. After a few days, its forces withdrew, humiliated and exhausted. The Israeli military admitted that it lacked an answer to Palestinian ballistics, tunnels and fierceness. In addition, the conflict in Gaza spilled over to the West Bank and to Israeli cities. Throughout, Netanyahu’s cabinet reacted slowly. It seemed confused by events. Soon Israelis were openly admitting that the future of the Jewish State was gloomier than ever.

It didn't take long for reality to hit close to home -- literally -- for me as I was filming my latest documentary, "Going to Bed Hungry: The New Face of Child Hunger." Cops Work for Corporate America as Oppressive Mercenaries for the 1% Says Retired Police Captain

Retired Philadelphia Police Captain, Ray Lewis, has a message for America. In a recent interview, Lewis makes it known that gone are the days of the police working for the people.

According to Lewis,

“It’s an oppressive organization now controlled by the one percent of corporate America. Corporate America is using police forces as their mercenaries.”

Lewis gained notoriety when he crossed the blue line and came out to demonstrate in full uniform at the Occupy Wall St. protests and was arrested along with hundreds of others.

Lewis has called out law enforcement on their overly aggressive tactics saying,

“You should, by law, only use force to protect someone’s life or to protect them from being bodily injured. If you’re not protecting somebody’s life or protecting them from bodily injury, there’s no need to use force.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

While I understand completely what this man is saying, the situation in Ferguson, with the ruling which absolved the police officer of murder, has been made deliberately...murky, and appears to be very politically motivated.

I have noticed a number of people not actually from Ferguson, who are demonstrating, are getting celebrated by the media, and appear to hope to get national riots going in other flashpoint cities, like Detroit or Chicago, where many innocent minorities are literally afraid to go out, because they may be racially profiled, or have to contend with with police brutality.

The problems in Ferguson are, unfortunately, not unique to Ferguson, and are American problems, which can only be resolved by people coming together peacefully, and working things out between leaders in the general community, and leaders in the police department.

But, one has to think: cui bono?!? Who benefits from national riots which only the American military can put down, and with extreme prejudice?!?

I have a suggestion of who thinks he will benefit from such actions: Our "El Supremo Decider", Obama, who at that point, could suspend the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and mandate martial law.

And, please, don't for a moment think he would not LOVE to silence his critics by doing this; there is an underground stream of viciousness and retribution in this man's soul which runs deep, and knows no bounds, except where the rule of law constrains him.

He cannot abide even the slightest of criticisms, and refuses all responsibility when he has been in horrific errors of judgement.

I mean, using an Executive Order to do an end run around Congress on immigration?!? Through that action, Obama has declared that his only emotion for the laws of this land are those of complete contempt.

Zionism And ISIS: Opposing Forces Or Two Sides Of The Same Coin?

Over the past decade, the Middle East — the cradle of civilization and the birthplace of the three major monotheistic religions — has become a flashpoint for religious extremism and fascism. The general public has grown used to associating radicalism with Islam, even to such an extent that the general notion is that the Islamic faith is the expression of religious extremism par excellence.

Yet such assessments have generally failed to take into account an equally dangerous radical trend that has been unfolding in the region for decades — Zionism.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I remember, as a kid, watching Khrushchev at the UN, banging his shoe on the table, and the translation of what he was saying was given as, "We will bury you!", which was construed by the "translator" as a threat against the US.

Of course, that was a complete mistranslation, and misrepresentation of what the man actually said. The real translation was "You will bury yourselves."

I think of those Jews, many of whom had escaped death during the Holocaust, who founded Israel.

And I have to wonder: is what Israel has become what they really wanted to see evolve?!?

A viciously apartheid, xenophobic culture, hating Muslim Arabs so intensely that many in government and Jewish faith communities have, sometimes very publicly, advocated their own, "Final Solution" to "The Arab Problem"?!?

There is a term in psychology called "enabling". It is when someone encourages someone else to do something that is bad and risky for that person, but -for their own reasons - continues to encourage this bad behaviour.

When one nation enables another nation's bad behaviour on the world stage, as the US does with Israel, the ultimate outcome cannot be good. And the US has done absolutely nothing to ameliorate the Israeli government's continuous onslaught against the Palestinians. Please note the following, from the Latimes.com, published on 24 July, 2014:

It was supposed to be a place of refuge from a devastating war. Hundreds of people were crammed into a United Nations-run elementary school in the northern Gaza Strip on Thursday when the converted shelter was hit by a series of explosions. At least 15 people were killed and more than 120 injured, according to local health officials. Survivors said they had packed their belongings and were gathered in the schoolyard awaiting evacuation when the shells hit. But the circumstances remained murky late in the day. The U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees said it had asked the Israeli liaison office repeatedly for a window of time in which to evacuate the staff and displaced people who wanted to leave the school. “We got no answer,” said Adnan abu Hasna, a spokesman for the U.N. Relief and Works Agency, or UNRWA. Survivors said they were waiting to leave when the shells hit.

These actions, coupled with brisk annexations of territories in which Palestinians have lived for generations; the routine torture of prisoners, including children;the daily killing of Palestinians in peaceful protest all lead to one inevitable conclusion: that Israel, as a country, is hell-bent on a complete genocide of all Palestinians, and a complete reconquering of the land, to, at last, create "Eretz Israel", or "Greater Israel."

I would strongly caution both the Israeli government, and certain religious leaders to be very, very careful about what they wish for here.

A physical victory in this regard may well lead to a moral, and spiritual curse upon this nation so intense that it can never, ever be unbroken.

There are people out there doing good things; feeding the homeless, setting a good example on various levels in various theaters of operation, working in prisons and moving through the ass end of society to minister to drunks, drug addicts and the deranged. That is certainly a minority. The majority is composed of mindless consumers and sensation junkies. Then… at the other end are the monsters of the moment, the Satanists, Zionists, Israelis and all of the leaders in all of the countries that they control through their world wide, criminal banking syndicate, masquerading as a nation. When San Francisco Stopped Prosecuting Drug Users, Violent Crime Went Down: Police Chief Greg Suhr Talks Narcotics Enforcement

Guess What Happened The Last Time The Price Of Oil Crashed Like This?…

There has only been one other time in history when the price of oil has crashed by more than 40 dollars in less than 6 months. The last time this happened was during the second half of 2008, and the beginning of that oil price crash preceded the great financial collapse that happened later that year by several months. Well, now it is happening again, but this time the stakes are even higher. When the price of oil falls dramatically, that is a sign that economic activity is slowing down. It can also have a tremendously destabilizing affect on financial markets. As you will read about below, energy companies now account for approximately 20 percent of the junk bond market. And a junk bond implosion is usually a signal that a major stock market crash is on the way. So if you are looking for a “canary in the coal mine”, keep your eye on the performance of energy junk bonds.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Right now, it wouldn't hurt to have one eye focused on Wall Street, and the other on your preparations for any sign of civil disruption of services, etc..

Please, folks.

I am NOT Mrs. Chicken Little of Hawaii; I am urging both calm, and planning on your part.

Have adequate resources, in terms of long-storage food, potable water, and medications for your family and your pets. Have the ability to defend your home against looters, and find people in your community with whom you feel safe working and bartering goods and services to get things done.

Invest in small amounts of gold and silver if you can, because precious metals always have some intrinsic value.

Plan how to re-connect with family if the excrement really hits the ventilation system. Know how your kid's school prepares for any kind of emergency, and how you can get your kid out of school, if need be.

Preparation will both give you both peace of mind, and the understanding of how to work your plan, if and when you need to.

Saudi Arabia Declares Oil War on US Fracking, hits Railroads, Tank-Car Makers, Canada, Russia; Sinks Venezuela

When OPEC announced on Thanksgiving Day that it would maintain oil production at 30 million barrels per day, chaos broke out in the oil market, and the price of oil around the globe spiraled into a terrific plunge. The unity of OPEC, if there ever was such a thing, was in tatters with Saudi oil minister smiling victoriously, and with a steaming Venezuelan oil minister thinking of the turmoil his country is facing [OPEC Refuses to Cut Production, Oil Plunges off the Chart].

During the closed-door meetings in Vienna, Saudi oil minister Ali al-Naimi told OPEC members that OPEC had to combat the US fracking boom. If OPEC cut output to raise the price of oil, it would lose market share, he argued. The way to win would be to allow overproduction to depress prices to the point where they would destroy the profitability of North American producers. And they’d have to cut production, rather than OPEC.

Oil at $40 Possible as Market Redraws Politics From Caracas to Tehran

Oil’s decline is proving to be the worst since the collapse of the financial system in 2008 and threatening to have the same global impact of falling prices three decades ago that led to the Mexican debt crisis and the end of the Soviet Union.

Russia, the world’s largest producer, can no longer rely on the same oil revenues to rescue an economy suffering from European and U.S. sanctions. Iran, also reeling from similar sanctions, will need to reduce subsidies that have partly insulated its growing population. Nigeria, fighting an Islamic insurgency, and Venezuela, crippled by failing political and economic policies, also rank among the biggest losers from the decision by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries last week to let the force of the market determine what some experts say will be the first free-fall in decades.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is precisely the outcome the US government wanted to see happen, particularly concerning Russia, and coupled with US sanctions.

I would, however, strongly caution this government to be very careful about what it wishes for here: global destabilization could well have an industrial-strength blowback for this administration, and for which it may be singularly unprepared.

Over Kill: Aiming for Two Militant Leaders in Pakistan, U.S. Drone Pilots Killed 233 People, including 89 Children

The U.S. drone program in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Yemen is referred to as “targeted killing” of those deemed to be a danger to American interests. President Barack Obama even said in a speech on May 23, 2013, “[B]y narrowly targeting our action against those who want to kill us, and not the people they hide among, we are choosing the course of action least likely to result in the loss of innocent life.” Instead, the Central Intelligence Agency attacks are anything but targeted; hundreds often die in the multiple attempts to kill each individual.

A study (pdf) by Reprieve, a group that works against the death penalty and other government killing, showed that not only are many innocent lives lost in the attacks, but the actual targets are often missed. That can result in some being “killed” multiple times. Reprieve found 41 men whose deaths had been reported multiple times but remained alive while as many as 1,147 civilians in the kill zone died.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The question thinking Americans must ask right now is, how do alleged "radicals" become radicalized against the US and the West?!?

Is it because there is some degree of transparency in their government, and votes actually count during elections?

Is it because people can work for decent wages, and are able to take care of their families, which have the advantage of low-cost, world-class medical care and a competitive education which can give that country a real, tangible edge in future generations?

I would strongly suggest, not at all.

When people are trapped with a US-imposed tinpot dictator, who has some material or geostrategic advantage to offer, and understands that the US will provide any means necessary to suppress even peaceful protest, people get angry at the US.

The Kingdom of Bahrain is a perfect case in point. Bahrain, home to the US Navy's 5th fleet, is ruled by the Sunni Al-Khalifa monarchy, but the majority of Bahrain's people are Shiite Muslim.

When there were peaceful demonstrations a couple of years ago, where Bahrain's people were asking for a move toward a Constitutional monarchy, not only were they attacked, arrested, tortured, and jailed, after a kangaroo court hearing; the first responders who gave them medical aid were also attacked, arrested, tortured, and jailed after a kangaroo court hearing.

To say that the people of Bahrain are not particularly happy with their government, and profoundly unhappy with the US government for supporting it, is like saying the Titanic hit a little ice.

And IF a true revolution comes to this country which cannot be put down by either the Bahraini or Saudi military, I will be willing to bet you that executives of the US State Department, the Pentagon, Congress, and the White House will collectively have that glazed "deer in the headlights" look, claiming they never saw it coming.

President Kennedy said it best: "when peaceful revolution is impossible, violent revolution is inevitable."

As a Christian pacifist, I abhor violence, and would never advocate its use; I can understand, however, how violence becomes the ultimate, collective response to how people are brutally treated by a leadership more interested in US "foreign aid" ( read: bribery to keep the people "in their place"), and which generally never gets to the people who desperately need it, (as in the case with Yemen), than with improving the lot of their citizens. The citizens of Yemen are not happy, particularly in light of the fact that that US drone attacks are killing innocent men, women, children, and the medically fragile in their country.

These slaughtered innocents have names; they have families and friends who loved them.

And if some of these people were at the end of their collective rope, and became radicalized, it is the US foreign policy of supporting despots against their own people, while butchering the innocent, which has put them there. I cannot, morally, support a US foreign policy which does this.

And the most painful irony here, is that this is a foreign policy approach which is ultimately doomed to fail. You may want to ask the citizens of Cuba, Chile, or Iran about that, if you have the guts to do so.

To get what they want economically and geopolitically, the Chinese and Russian leadership are making deals; to get what the US government wants, it is waging wars, which appear to be on the verge of some massive and brutal escalation across the globe.

What is wrong with this picture?!? BLOODY EVERYTHING!!

How Many Ways Can Goldman Give?

Hillary Clinton is leaving nothing to chance, and neither is Goldman Sachs. Since her first Senate campaign in 1999, the firm has been bankrolling Clinton to the tune of millions. Individual donors like Goldman CEO Lloyd Blankfein have been generous, but the firm has sought to purchase influence and good will through more oblique channels: speaking fees as well as contributions to the nonprofit Clinton Foundation.

Of course, Goldman is not alone. Citigroup ranks No. 1 in lifetime donations to Clinton; Morgan Stanley is No. 6 and employs Clinton confidant Tom Nides.

Wall Streeters are ready for Hillary.? And after the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision, it will be increasingly difficult to track their influence.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Under a Hillary Clinton presidency, everything one may despise in the Obama administration will continue, but on steroids.

There will be no governmental responsibility whatsoever; at the end of the day, she is simply another slave to her corporate and Israeli masters.

Message will have absolutely no relationship to reality; the wars will continue, potentially leading us to war with Russia; the destruction of the American Middle Class will have become complete; US "education" will continue to become more third world; torture of prisoners of war will be routine; the bankers will fatten their purses, and this country's leadership will become even more brutal toward its own citizens in ways you cannot begin to imagine.

In fact, the potential ugly reality here should be expressed in the following bumper sticker: "Hillary Clinton: she'll do for America...what she did for Benghazi!!"

Folks, just please: look at her record, going back to her law school days, and her employment shortly after that. And how various jobs ended. Understand that the woman has the morals of a trout. (Yes, I know I'll get emails from trout who are insulted by that, but it's a fact.)

And the problem here for me is, a Clinton candidacy is, allegedly, the best the Democratic Party can conjure. And the Republicans, particularly is Jeb wins the nomination, can seem to do no better for We the People.

It appears to be only a matter of time, and timing, before all the reasons I have articulated as to why I would be morally unable to vote for Clinton, come to pass; but they will also come to pass if the best the Republicans can do is to nominate Jeb Bush.

As of yet, I fail to see a potential candidate for President coming out of either party. And that is truly ....unfortunate for American's voters.

Last night, Britons from Aberdeen to Devon were left baffled by a series of mysterious explosions which shook windows and disturbed sleeping children.

Hundreds of Twitter users reported the sounds between around 9pm and 11pm last night, with many describing the noise as sounding like 'distant fireworks'.

But despite suggestions of RAF jets, meteors and aliens flooding the social media site today, no one has been able to explain what was heard. Even the MoD has said it is stumped.

Jeb Bush and his capital investment company have set up several companies that, despite being registered to his office and being approved for “any and all lawful business,” have seemingly not yet done anything. Whether as a result of an unprecedented scare campaign by the Swiss National Bank (most recently reinforced by Citigroup), or due to confidence that Swiss gold is as safe abroad as it is at home, or simply due to good old-fashioned "hanging chads", today's most awaited event has come and gone and the result - according to early projections by Swiss television SRF - is that the Swiss population overwhelmingly rejected a referendum to force the Swiss National Bank to hold some 20% of its reserves in gold in a landslide vote, with about 78% voting against what AP politely termed "protecting the country's wealth by investing in gold."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Whether the results of a slick ad campaigns, or an incredible hack job, the executives of the Bank of Switzerland can collectively breathe a sign of relief that this referendum didn't pass.

THANKSGIVING IN FERGUSON (SPOOF)

Killing for Krap and the Wrath of Tamerlane.

The fall of a gigantic super power and its culture of excess is never pretty. It is especially gruesome when, front and center, all that one can see is the tawdry, the ridiculous and the embarrassing. Of everything I have seen, nothing sums it up better (or worse?) than this. It’s all become a cartoon; an unfunny cartoon. The leaders are cartoon characters. The social luminaries and entertainment icons are all cartoons. When it isn't a cartoon it is a horror movie. It’s Tom and Jerry hacking each other to death with axes. It’s Roadrunner being chased by a rabid, frothing at the mouth, rabid coyote and then… a safe falls on his head. It’s not a safe, it’s the Federal Reserve and it’s not the Roadrunner, it’s the American public, lurching on crutches down a concrete road of fused skeletons. The stretch of the highway of the dead goes on forever.

Anonymous posts KKK leader’s personal data online in ongoing war over Ferguson

Hacktivists aligned with the Anonymous movement have published credit card numbers and other personal information allegedly belonging to a leading Ku Klux Klan member amidst a grudge between the groups fueled by recent protests in Ferguson, Missouri.

Members of the loose-knit hacktivist collective have taken aim at the Klan in recent weeks after the KKK threatened to use lethal force against demonstrations descending on Ferguson to protest the August 9 killing of unarmed teenager Michael Brown by local police officer Darren Wilson. The feud between the groups has only escalated in the days since, though, and now Anons are circulating what they claim to be sensitive details about a powerful Klansman and his family.

MY TEN YEAR OLD SON WANTS ANSWERS ABOUT FERGUSON

My son wants me to reassure him, and tell him that of course Darren Wilson will go to jail. At 10 years old, he can feel deep in his bones how wrong it was for the police to kill Michael Brown. “There will be a trial, at least — right, Mom?” My son is asking me a simple question, and I know the answer.

A Major International Monetary Crisis is Looming: The Suppression of Gold and Silver? Is COMEX being Cornered?

It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I have had all of you as friends and associates during what has been a long war, not a good war, but a very long “financial war”. As you know from these writings; this has been a war conducted by the Federal Reserve against the entire world, aided and abetted by major international banks via the manipulation of most every market on the planet. The ethics and morals our country was originally built on …be damned!

Black officer shoots and kills white unarmed man

While national news media continue to focus on race in Ferguson, Missouri, where a white police officer shot and killed an unarmed black teenager, they apparently don’t think a similar case in Utah with the races reversed is that newsworthy.

Police in Salt Lake City are continuing their probe into an Aug. 11 shooting outside a 7-Eleven convenience store, when a black police officer, whom local media are referring to as “not white,” shot and killed 20-year-old Dillon Taylor, who was unarmed at the time, according to his supporters.

Police Chief Chris Burbank said the entire incident was captured on the body camera of the officer who shot Taylor.

Dinner with the Devil and the Patanjai Method

The power of the obvious is as great or as muted as the mind of the perceiver. You see what you see based on what you permit yourself to realize, to the degree that that realization puts you in danger of estrangement from your colleagues and the world around you. The world is sick and you are sick, to the extent that you accommodate it, for the purpose of the sensation and appearance of operational harmony and a security in the freedom to maintain your place in it.
