Gannett Is Cutting 1,000 Newspaper Jobs

Gannett Co. is eliminating 1,000 jobs, including 600 layoffs, across its newspaper operations, a company spokeswoman said Thursday.

The latest cuts will affect Gannett's other newspapers, which include 84 dailies such as The Arizona Republic and the Detroit Free Press as well as nearly 900 non-daily publications.

Nearly half of Americans (47%) believe the government should require all radio and television stations to offer equal amounts of conservative and liberal political commentary, but they draw the line at imposing that same requirement on the Internet.

America's Israeli-Occupied Media

There should be little doubt that the Israeli government is making every effort to jump-start a war against Iran sooner rather than later. Many Israelis not surprisingly believe it is in their interest to convince the United States to attack Iran so that Israel will not have to do it, and they are hell-bent on bringing that about. Unfortunately, their efforts are being aided and abetted by a U.S. mainstream media that is unwilling to ask any hard questions or challenge the assumptions of the Israeli government.

Media Go Wild Over Edwards' Infidelities, But Continue to Ignore Those of McCain

Aug 11 07:28

OKay, forget Iran., How about Russia? Can we have a war with Russia? Huh? Can we? Huh?

THE OUTBREAK of fighting between Russia and the former Soviet republic of Georgia was sudden but not surprising. Conflict has been brewing between Moscow and its tiny, pro-Western neighbor for months. The flashpoints are two breakaway Georgian provinces, Abkhazia and South Ossetia -- the latter being the scene of the latest fighting.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Washington Post fails to mention the initiating event, which was the shelling of Russian positions and the death of ten Russian peacekeepers. This first attack has been blamed on Georgia, but Georgia denies the attack. This actually makes sense, because it would have been a stupid thing for Georgia to do. Meanwhile, one of the Israeli units working in Georgia is an advanced artillery unit, and Israel has a long history of false-flag attacks to trick other nations into fighting each other (and killing each other off).

John Edwards admits affair

Former U.S. Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has admitted to having had an extramarital affair with a woman he met in a New York City bar in 2006, ABC News reported on Friday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Okay, now I don't really give a flying foxtrot uniform charlie kilo about John Edwards. But ABCNNBBCBS is running this all over the place like it is the hot story of the year.

Folks, you are being CONDITIZED!

Back in early 2001, when the US Government was already informing other governments of plans to invade Afghanistan in October 2001, the corporate media had turned the sordid tale of Gary Condit and Chandra Levy into the one and only story for the TV sets of America. There were very few reports of the war being planned for Afghanistan, so when the invasion actually happened, right after the convenient events of 9-11 angered America into a war-fever, it was a surprise to nobody bu the American people.

Well, here we are again. The TV sets are tossing John Edwards' love-child right into our faces non-stop, with only the briefest of pauses to shout "RUSSIA INVADES!" so it doesn't look like they are hiding anything from you.

But think. The fact that John Edwards knocked up his mistress is not something that actually affects your life in any material way. It's tabloid scandal at best, yet to ABCNNBBCBS, this is the important news to shove at you. But the outbreak of war gets barely an insert and a screen crawl, and those are actually lies! Russia did NOT invade. The initiating event was the shelling of a Russian installation, presumably by the Georgians, but in fact we really do not know.

But a real war with Russia does affect your life in very material ways. The US is already at economic death's door from the existing wars. Once again we see Israel working to kick off a war they will expect our sons and daughters to clean up.

And the other side actually has nuclear and biological weapons of mass destruction, and faces an enemy they already know has the willingness to use such weapons unless preemptively attacked.

Study: Strike on Iran nukes just a delay

Webmaster's Commentary:

I find this headline very troubling, because while the rest of the article uses the intentionally vague phrase "nuclear facilities, this headline is clearly intended to sell the idea that Iran has nuclear weapons right now; a claim that serves the purposes of the war profiteers and neocons but which (like Iraq) is completely unsupported by any evidence whatsoever.

Israel considers military option for Iran nukes

Webmaster's Commentary:

There you are. Without a single shred of proof, Associated Press goes ahead and reports that Iran is building nuclear weapons. If you needed any more proof that AP is just a propaganda organ for Israel, there it is, in that sentence.

Article Casting Doubt on 'Anthrax Killer' Scrubbed

The top suspect in the 2001 anthrax attacks was obsessed with a sorority that sat less than 100 yards away from a New Jersey mailbox where the toxin-laced letters were sent, authorities said Monday.

But if you read further in, they admit that they cannot place Ivins in Princeton on the day the anthrax letters were actually mailed.

Aug 04 12:50

A lesson in propaganda

Webmaster's Commentary:

Everything in this article is designed to portray Iran as the bad guy, even the carefully chosen photo of their spokesman caught in a smirk.

To read this article, you would think Iran was on the verge of nuking the rest of the world. That is, of course, the intention.

But the hard facts remain...

1. Iran, which like the US has signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, has a legal right to build nuclear power stations and to construct the fuel rods for those power stations.

2. Nobody has produced any evidence that Iran is doing anything else with its nuclear research than building power stations. All 16 of the United States Intelligence Agencies are unanimous in concluding that Iran does not have a nuclear weapons program and has not had one going back to at least 2003.

3. George Bush has decided to ignore all 16 US Intelligence agencies and rely on Israel for all intelligence regarding Iran's plans. This despite ...

4. Israel made the same accusations against Iraq, then bombed the power station at Osirik claiming it concealed a clandestine weapons factory. An examination of the ruins following the US invasion of Iraq failed to produce any evidence to support Israel's claims.

5. Israel, through its spy operation inside the Pentagon provided much of the now-discredited claims that Saddam had nuclear and biological weapons in the run up to the invasion in 2003.

6. Of all the nations in the Middle East, only one nation is known to have a (formerly) clandestine weapons factory under a supposedly peaceful reactor and that is Israel itself.

What Iran has actually said is that they anticipate a US attack on Iran since Iran (like Iraq and Afghanistan) does not actually have nuclear weapons and is therefore an easy target. In response to such an unprovoked attack, Iran will strike back where it can, closing off the flow of oil to the rest of the world.

If I were Iran, watching Israel whip the US into a pit-bull frenzy to send after my people, I would probably do the same.

Washington Post Scrubs Own Story Questioning Case Against 'Anthrax Killer'

After a Friday story from Washington Post raised series questions about the ability of Bruce Ivins to have carried out the anthrax attacks -- he reportedly "had no access to dry, powdered anthrax," according to experts quoted in their report -- the paper inexplicably spiked their article, without explanation or notice, and replaced it with a wholly different story. Yet, on Sunday, the paper revived the same troubling questions. What the hell is going on here?

I have now been called antisemitic and intellectually unstable and a whole bunch of other silly things by the folks over at the Commentary blog. They want Time Magazine to fire or silence me. This is happening because I said something that is palpably true, but unspoken in polite society: There is a small group of Jewish neoconservatives who unsuccessfully tried to get Benjamin Netanyahu to attack Saddam Hussein in the 1990s, and then successfully helped provide the intellectual rationale for George Bush to do it in 2003.

Anthrax suspect would have gotten vaccine royalties

Bruce E. Ivins, the government biodefense scientist linked to the deadly anthrax mailings of 2001, stood to gain financially from massive federal spending in the fear-filled aftermath of those killings, the Los Angeles Times has learned.

This is a classic propaganda smear. If you read the article all the way through, you find out that the deal fell apart. Nor are Ivin's co-inventors, the ones who would actually now be GETTING the money from the deal, named!
