9/11 Rumors That Become Conventional Wisdom

There seems to be a coordinated push to re-sell the official story of 9-11 (also JFK) to judge by the programs readers report seeing on Discovery, National Geographic, and History. My own trip around the channels found a disproportionate percentage of war-glorification going on as well over the weekend.

We're Gonna Frickin' Lose this Thing

Something is not right. We have a terrific candidate and a terrific VP candidate. We're coming off the worst eight years in our country's history. Six of those eight years the Congress, White House and even the Supreme Court were controlled by the Republicans and the last two years the R's have filibustered like tantrum throwing 4-year-olds, yet we're going to elect a Republican who voted with that leadership 90% of the time and a former sportscaster who wants to teach Adam and Eve as science? That's not odd as a difference of opinion, that's logically and mathematically queer.

Not Really An Interview

Looks like I need to modify the countdown widget to track the time until Sarah Palin sits down for an interview without preconditions, because as Josh Marshall observes, the Charlie Gibson interview isn't really an interview after all.

For starters, it will take place in multiple sessions over multiple days, giving Palin incredible leverage over Gibson -- if she or her handlers don't like a question, they'll just cancel the remaining sessions, all but insuring that Gibson won't ask any tough questions.

Report: '60 Minutes' Cut Ahmadinejad's Statement, 'Solution Is Democracy' in Israel/Palestine

The interview that Mike Wallace did of Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad 2 years ago was aired on C-Span recently, and a diligent blogger has reported on what "60 Minutes" cut out of the interview when it aired. When Wallace confronted Ahmadinejad with the "wipe Israel off the map" threats, Ahmadinejad said that "the solution is democracy" in Israel and Palestine, a suggestion that he favors a one-state solution.

Sarah Palin ‘affair’: big media stays quiet as ‘lover’ named

While America's respectable media focus on John McCain's acceptance speech to the Republican faithful, blogs and gossip sites continue to lead the feeding frenzy surrounding the National Enquirer's allegation, reported here yesterday, that McCain's running mate Sarah Palin had an affair with her husband's business partner.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Remember when John Edward's affair was the hot news story all during the time Hillary's supporters claimed that public knowledge of the affair would have shifted the nomination to her? (And remember how quickly the Edwards story faded once Hillary conceded to Obama?) Remember all the attention Edward's affair got even though he was already out of the race, and the affair unable to affect our daily lives?

Well, I am casting the gauntlet down to the corporate media on this one. Only a few days ago, I pointed out how the media went after Obama's pastor for his supposed racist views, yet seemed unconcerned with Palin's pastor's claim that terrorism in Israel was God's punishment on Jews for refusing to convert to Christianity!

And here we are. The "Family values" nominee for Vice President has her own stained sheets. Fairness and honesty demands that the media examine this story with the same intensity with which they reported on John Edwards' affair.

So, media, will you be fair and unbiased? Or will you prove that you are still the lackeys of the rich and powerful GOP? Will it be one set of journalistic standards for the Democrats, and another kinder and gentler set for the GOP?

The gauntlet is thrown. The challenge is made. The whole world watches to see what the US corporate media will do now.

Their Cheatin' Hearts

Submitted by a reader with the following letter to the editor.

To the Editors of the NY Daily News:

Why no mention of presumptive Republican nominee for president, John McCain, in your "Their Cheatin' Hearts" slideshow about politicians who commit adultery?

McCain is a self-confessed adulterer who ran around on his first wife, Carol Shepp McCain, after she was severely injured in a car accident. He also got a marriage certificate to wed his second wife, Cindy Hensley McCain, before his divorce from his first wife.

"Liberal bias" in the media? I think not.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am reminded of how Bill Clinton was forced on us all when the media decided to conceal Bill's extramarital dalliances from the voting public. Quite a contrast to the way Gary Hart was brought down by the same media.

Excerpt from The Clinton Chronicles

DON HEWITT (Executive Producer, "60 Minutes"): And they came to us
because they were in big trouble in New Hampshire. They were about to
lose right there and they needed some first aid. They needed some
bandaging. What they needed was a paramedic. So they came to us and
we did it and that's what they wanted to do. When I told Tim Russer
that I was persona-non-grata at the White House, he said, "Why?" I
said, "The Gennifer Flowers interview." He said, "You got him the
nomination." I said, "I know that." As far as I know from the
conversations I've had, Bernie Nussbaum knew that, Gergen knows that,
Lloyd Cutler certainly knows it 'cause Lloyd had a hand in his coming
on that night.

You know it was strong medicine the way I edited it but he was a very
sick candidate. He needed very strong medicine, and I'm not in the
business of doctoring candidates but he got up out of a sick bed that
night and walked to the nomination and as I said to Mandy, "You know
if I'd edited it your way, you know where you'd be today? You'd still
be up in New Hampshire looking for the nomination." He became the
candidate that night.

Media Go Wild Over Edwards' Infidelities, But Continue to Ignore Those of McCain

Aug 11 07:28

OKay, forget Iran., How about Russia? Can we have a war with Russia? Huh? Can we? Huh?

THE OUTBREAK of fighting between Russia and the former Soviet republic of Georgia was sudden but not surprising. Conflict has been brewing between Moscow and its tiny, pro-Western neighbor for months. The flashpoints are two breakaway Georgian provinces, Abkhazia and South Ossetia -- the latter being the scene of the latest fighting.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Washington Post fails to mention the initiating event, which was the shelling of Russian positions and the death of ten Russian peacekeepers. This first attack has been blamed on Georgia, but Georgia denies the attack. This actually makes sense, because it would have been a stupid thing for Georgia to do. Meanwhile, one of the Israeli units working in Georgia is an advanced artillery unit, and Israel has a long history of false-flag attacks to trick other nations into fighting each other (and killing each other off).

John Edwards admits affair

Former U.S. Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has admitted to having had an extramarital affair with a woman he met in a New York City bar in 2006, ABC News reported on Friday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Okay, now I don't really give a flying foxtrot uniform charlie kilo about John Edwards. But ABCNNBBCBS is running this all over the place like it is the hot story of the year.

Folks, you are being CONDITIZED!

Back in early 2001, when the US Government was already informing other governments of plans to invade Afghanistan in October 2001, the corporate media had turned the sordid tale of Gary Condit and Chandra Levy into the one and only story for the TV sets of America. There were very few reports of the war being planned for Afghanistan, so when the invasion actually happened, right after the convenient events of 9-11 angered America into a war-fever, it was a surprise to nobody bu the American people.

Well, here we are again. The TV sets are tossing John Edwards' love-child right into our faces non-stop, with only the briefest of pauses to shout "RUSSIA INVADES!" so it doesn't look like they are hiding anything from you.

But think. The fact that John Edwards knocked up his mistress is not something that actually affects your life in any material way. It's tabloid scandal at best, yet to ABCNNBBCBS, this is the important news to shove at you. But the outbreak of war gets barely an insert and a screen crawl, and those are actually lies! Russia did NOT invade. The initiating event was the shelling of a Russian installation, presumably by the Georgians, but in fact we really do not know.

But a real war with Russia does affect your life in very material ways. The US is already at economic death's door from the existing wars. Once again we see Israel working to kick off a war they will expect our sons and daughters to clean up.

And the other side actually has nuclear and biological weapons of mass destruction, and faces an enemy they already know has the willingness to use such weapons unless preemptively attacked.

Study: Strike on Iran nukes just a delay

Webmaster's Commentary:

I find this headline very troubling, because while the rest of the article uses the intentionally vague phrase "nuclear facilities, this headline is clearly intended to sell the idea that Iran has nuclear weapons right now; a claim that serves the purposes of the war profiteers and neocons but which (like Iraq) is completely unsupported by any evidence whatsoever.

Israel considers military option for Iran nukes

The Jewish state has purchased 90 F-16I fighter planes that can carry enough fuel to reach Iran, and will receive 11 more by the end of next year. It has bought two new Dolphin submarines from Germany reportedly capable of firing nuclear-armed warheads — in addition to the three it already has.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There you are. Without a single shred of proof, Associated Press goes ahead and reports that Iran is building nuclear weapons. If you needed any more proof that AP is just a propaganda organ for Israel, there it is, in that sentence.

Article Casting Doubt on 'Anthrax Killer' Scrubbed

While their top story on page A1 today is headlined "Scientists Question FBI's Probe of Anthrax Attacks" and sub-titled "Ivins Could Not Have Been Attacker, Some Say," the paper nonetheless managed to scrub from their website --- or at least completely replace --- a story they ran originally on Friday afternoon questioning the same points (whether Ivins had the means, ability, or access to the dry, weaponized anthrax used in the attack letters against senior Democratic Senators and other perceived "liberals") with another that greatly softened concerns about those questions.

The Antisemitism Incitement Craze

Here’s the question that we are all asking: when is satire deemed offensive or malicious? When the New Yorker published a cartoon on the magazine’s cover depicting Obama as a Muslim, the cartoonist was praised, not fired. The banner of free speech was held high, while the New Yorker’s editor, David Remnick, tried to convince everyone that the intent of publishing the cartoon was to “satirize misconceptions.”

Officials: Sorority obsession seen in anthrax case

The top suspect in the 2001 anthrax attacks was obsessed with a sorority that sat less than 100 yards away from a New Jersey mailbox where the toxin-laced letters were sent, authorities said Monday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

But if you read further in, they admit that they cannot place Ivins in Princeton on the day the anthrax letters were actually mailed.

The smear goes on, with the usual anonymous sources, the "therepist" who actually is only a substance abuse counselor (with a history of DUIs), and gag orders on all the actual witnesses.

A lesson in propaganda

Webmaster's Commentary:

Everything in this article is designed to portray Iran as the bad guy, even the carefully chosen photo of their spokesman caught in a smirk.

To read this article, you would think Iran was on the verge of nuking the rest of the world. That is, of course, the intention.

But the hard facts remain...

1. Iran, which like the US has signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, has a legal right to build nuclear power stations and to construct the fuel rods for those power stations.

2. Nobody has produced any evidence that Iran is doing anything else with its nuclear research than building power stations. All 16 of the United States Intelligence Agencies are unanimous in concluding that Iran does not have a nuclear weapons program and has not had one going back to at least 2003.

3. George Bush has decided to ignore all 16 US Intelligence agencies and rely on Israel for all intelligence regarding Iran's plans. This despite ...

4. Israel made the same accusations against Iraq, then bombed the power station at Osirik claiming it concealed a clandestine weapons factory. An examination of the ruins following the US invasion of Iraq failed to produce any evidence to support Israel's claims.

5. Israel, through its spy operation inside the Pentagon provided much of the now-discredited claims that Saddam had nuclear and biological weapons in the run up to the invasion in 2003.

6. Of all the nations in the Middle East, only one nation is known to have a (formerly) clandestine weapons factory under a supposedly peaceful reactor and that is Israel itself.

What Iran has actually said is that they anticipate a US attack on Iran since Iran (like Iraq and Afghanistan) does not actually have nuclear weapons and is therefore an easy target. In response to such an unprovoked attack, Iran will strike back where it can, closing off the flow of oil to the rest of the world.

If I were Iran, watching Israel whip the US into a pit-bull frenzy to send after my people, I would probably do the same.

Washington Post Scrubs Own Story Questioning Case Against 'Anthrax Killer'

After a Friday story from Washington Post raised series questions about the ability of Bruce Ivins to have carried out the anthrax attacks -- he reportedly "had no access to dry, powdered anthrax," according to experts quoted in their report -- the paper inexplicably spiked their article, without explanation or notice, and replaced it with a wholly different story. Yet, on Sunday, the paper revived the same troubling questions. What the hell is going on here?

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is an online battle between truth and lies.

The last one to stand back up, wins.

When Extremists Attack

I have now been called antisemitic and intellectually unstable and a whole bunch of other silly things by the folks over at the Commentary blog. They want Time Magazine to fire or silence me. This is happening because I said something that is palpably true, but unspoken in polite society: There is a small group of Jewish neoconservatives who unsuccessfully tried to get Benjamin Netanyahu to attack Saddam Hussein in the 1990s, and then successfully helped provide the intellectual rationale for George Bush to do it in 2003.

'Anti-Semitic' satire divides liberal Paris

The young man, Siné wrote without a shred of evidence, was planning to convert to Judaism before marrying Jessica Sebaoun-Darty, the Jewish heiress of a huge electronics chain. 'He'll go a long way in life, this lad!' Siné commented. The piece was published without controversy - until several days later, when a radio presenter referred to it as anti-Semitic. The families of those concerned were said to be 'sickened'.

Anthrax suspect would have gotten vaccine royalties

Bruce E. Ivins, the government biodefense scientist linked to the deadly anthrax mailings of 2001, stood to gain financially from massive federal spending in the fear-filled aftermath of those killings, the Los Angeles Times has learned.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a classic propaganda smear. If you read the article all the way through, you find out that the deal fell apart. Nor are Ivin's co-inventors, the ones who would actually now be GETTING the money from the deal, named!

The press is really trying to hard sell this guy as the villain, and this article illustrates how desperate they are to do it.

Vital unresolved anthrax questions and ABC News

During the last week of October, 2001, ABC News, led by Brian Ross, continuously trumpeted the claim as their top news story that government tests conducted on the anthrax -- tests conducted at Ft. Detrick -- revealed that the anthrax sent to Daschele contained the chemical additive known as bentonite.

Newspapers in a Crisis: Switch to the Web or Perish, says Former NY Post Editor

More bad news for newspapers this week: The New York Times Co. reported disappointing second-quarter earnings on Wednesday, with profits down 82% and the stock at roughly half its price from a year ago. That's just the start:

* Overall newspaper circulation is down.
* Thousands of journalists have lost their jobs.
* Newspaper control of local online ads is down nearly 9% from 2006.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sure, now that we bloggers proved online news can work, and corporate media decides they'll just leap right in and take over!
Except that it isn't the method that is drawing readers here, it's the content.
Who told you Saddam had 'nookuluar' bombs? ABCNNBBCBS
Who told you it was all a war-starting hoax? The blogs!
The corporate media will fare no better here in the online world unless and until they start giving the American people the FACTS about what is going on in their government.

Newsweek Magazine Covers Up McCain’s Mob Ties

Although Newsweek said Mrs. McCain’s family “is deeply rooted in Arizona,” and that her late father, Jim Hensley, “was one of the most prominent men in the state,” who was “a World War II bombardier . . . shot down over the English channel,”—in other words, a war hero just like McCain—Newsweek did not even hint of the racketeering and corruption (and murder) associated with Hensley and his patrons in his rise to power.

As the Huffington Post reported Monday, the Gallup/USA Today poll's results among "likely voters" raised more questions than they answered. By showing a lead for McCain that contradicted Gallup's own independent tracking results, the poll prompted Emory University political scientist Alan Abramowitz to ask how Gallup and USA Today selected the "likely voters" who purportedly now favor the Arizona Republican.

The antidemocratic nature of liberal foundations is epitomized by the long history of collaboration (that formerly existed) between the largest major liberal foundations (like the Ford Foundation) and the US Central Intelligence Agency.
