Hollywood to make 30 anti-Iranian movies

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Hassan Qashqavi, has said that Hollywood film makers have thirty anti-Iranian movies in the offing.

"Hollywood has thirty anti-Iranian movies in the offing with the subject of hostility towards Iran's historical and Islamic identity," Qashqavi told reporters at a weekly news conference in Tehran on Monday.

"The subject of making various movies has directly targeted not only Iran's religious and historical identity but also the country's social values including hospitality in an attempt to show hostility towards the Islamic Republic," he added.

"There are certain political objectives behind a number of movies under the pretext of creating art," he explained.

Study: Israel "retaliates" to Palestinian "provocation" in UK press

The study, the first to investigate this aspect of British press coverage of the conflict, examined a period from January to June 2008. It found that when the British press represents a party as retaliating or responding in the conflict, that party is Israel 72 percent of the time. The tabloid press showed a particularly marked bias, representing Israel as retaliating in 100 percent of all representations of "retaliation."

Documentary to Air About Lynching of Jewish Businessman

Frank was accused and convicted of killing 13-year-old Mary Phagan in 1913.

Phagan worked in a pencil factory Frank managed in downtown Atlanta.

The governor at the time, John Slaton, commuted Frank's sentence from death to life in prison, but he was kidnapped from the state prison in Milledgeville in 1915 and taken to Phagan's hometown of Marietta where he was hanged.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Interestingly enough, Leo Frank, like Rubashkin, based his defense on claims that his accusers (and ultimately the jury) were anti-Semites.

The Leo Franks case gave rise to the Anti-Defamation League whose mission, as the name suggests, is to suppress any and all negative reporting on individuals who happen to be of the Jewish faith, even if the reporting is factual.

Philadelphia papers owner files for Chapter 11

Philadelphia Newspapers and Journal Register, which publishes several small papers in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, join the much larger Tribune Co, publisher of the Chicago Tribune and Los Angeles Times, in a growing line of U.S. newspaper publishers seeking bankruptcy court protection to stay afloat while they restructure.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I for one would gladly shut down this blog and spend the rest of my life chasing Claire around the shop if the corporate media could be relied upon to tell the people the truth about what the government is up to, as its traditional role is supposed to be.

But until the corporate media starts telling the truth and stops acting like the government's ministry of propaganda, blogs like this will remain and we will continue to take your readership and advertisers away from you.

It's simple; if you lie, you die!

Fresh BBC row after reporters asked not to cover Gaza demo

SENIOR BBC Scotland managers were plunged into a new row over trust last week after it emerged the corporation's journalists felt they could not report on a demonstration held inside their own building.

Last month more than 20 demonstrators occupied the foyer of BBC Scotland's Pacific Quay headquarters in protest at the corporation's decision not to broadcast an appeal from the Disasters Emergency Committee on behalf of the people of Gaza. More than 40,000 people complained to the BBC about its decision.

According to one BBC Scotland source, radio journalists were told by editors not to include the demonstration on Radio Scotland's news bulletins - even though other branches of the corporation were reporting the story in full.

Money for Idiots

Our moral and economic system is based on individual responsibility. It’s based on the idea that people have to live with the consequences of their decisions. This makes them more careful deciders. This means that society tends toward justice — people get what they deserve as much as possible.

Hollywood's New Censors

None of this, of course, was new; it was how Hollywood created the myth of the Wild West, which was harmless enough unless you happened to be a Native American; and how the Second World War has been relentlessly glorified, which may be harmless enough unless you happen to be one of countless innocent human beings, from Serbia to Iraq, whose deaths or dispossession are justified by moralizing references to 1939-45. Hollywood's gooks, its Untermenschen, are essential to this crusade – the dispatched Somalis in Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down and the sinister Arabs in movies like Rendition, in which the torturing CIA is absolved by Jake Gyllenhal's good egg.

CBS Falsely Portrays Stanford as Democratic Scandal

On Wednesday, federal authorities reported they did not know the whereabouts of Texas banker and scammer Allen Stanford. But what we do know for certain about the financier whose frauds may yet rival the $50 billion Madoff Ponzi scheme is that he donated generously to both political parties in Washington. Of course, that would be news to viewers of CBS Evening News. Because while Stanford gave early and often to Texas Republicans John Cornyn, Tom Delay and George W. "Worst Is Yet to Come:" Americans' Standard of Living Permanently Changed

Yahoo! Finance Tech Ticker | Posted Feb 17, 2009 |

An Interview with Howard Davidowitz

But "the worst is yet to come," according to Howard Davidowitz, chairman of Davidowitz & Associates, who believes American's standard of living is undergoing a "permanent change" - and not for the better as a result of:

* An $8 trillion negative wealth effect from declining home values.
* A $10 trillion negative wealth effect from weakened capital markets.
* A $14 trillion consumer debt load amid "exploding unemployment", leading to "exploding bankruptcies."

The end of rampant consumerism is ultimately a good thing, he says, but the unraveling of an economy built on debt-fueled spending will be painful for years to come.

Firestorms and Deep Freeze: Climate Change May Bring Both

Global warming deniers keep pointing to snowstorms as proof that climatologists are wrong. But both extreme heat and cold are on tap.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The cult, still eager to get their hands on your carbon tax money, are trying to equate those who question the science behind their claims as "deniers", apparently to put them in the same class of people as "9-11 deniers" or (horrors) "Holocaust deniers."

But as the cult changes their name from "global warming" to "catastrophic climate change" this is in effect an admission that their earlier prognostications have not come to pass. The attempt to claim that the severe cooling weather is the result of human caused global warming may look good in the science fiction film from which they apparently stole the idea (along with scenes used in Al Gore's movie), but it is not really science.

The bottom line is that this is all about creating a new crisis as an excuse to take more money and freedom from you.

Turn off the Canadian media, please

People in a country like Canada use their own media - public (CBC) and private (CanWest, TorStar, CTVglobemedia) - to know what is happening in their own country. Media are also an important part of forging a national identity. They are supposed to represent the broad spectrum of Canadian opinion. When they present information on the rest of the world, they do so from a Canadian perspective and have the Canadian audience in mind.

And today, if you want to have the first idea what is happening in Israel/Palestine (or most of the rest of the world), the best thing to do would be to turn them off completely.

How the BBC's stand on Gaza made a front-page protester out of me

I am not a natural demonstrator. Way beyond middle-aged, certainly middle-class, and probably middle-of-the-road, that's me. Except when it comes to the Middle East and the appalling and unjust treatment by one persecuted people towards another. That has ended up driving me to the streets, and is how I came, to my surprise, to find myself on the front page of last week's Independent on Sunday.

BBC abandons 'impartiality' on warming

In terms of journalistic professionalism, the sad thing about all this is that the debate about global warming has now entered a fascinating new stage. Honest coverage of all the new information coming to light would be vastly more interesting to the BBC's audience than the vapid propaganda which is all they get.

But inevitably this also exposes the hollowness of all those claims that the BBC still has a duty to remain "impartial", which on this issue is belied by own guidelines. As a particularly glaring example of how the BBC has, on so many issues, abandoned any pretence of impartiality, this can only provide more ammunition to those who argue that it no longer deserves that compulsory licence fee.

BBC suspends Gaza appeal investigation after legal threat

A special committee set up by the BBC Trust was due to report next week on the corporation's decision not to broadcast an appeal by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which prompted more than 15,000 complaints.

However, the process was halted when the BBC received a letter from a firm of solicitors threatening to take the corporation to judicial review if it does not screen the appeal.

The letter, from London law firm Hickman & Rose, was sent on behalf of two Gaza residents and one British citizen. It is understood to claim that the BBC's actions were "irrational or unlawful" and breached the European Convention of Human Rights.

The BBC – a crisis of confidence?

The refusal to transmit the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal has left it isolated and exposed. Its senior journalists feel betrayed, but dare not speak out because of their terms of service. Its old soldiers like myself cannot believe what we are seeing – or, in the case of the DEC appeal, not seeing. The argument that it should not be shown because the humanitarian disaster in Gaza was man-made does not stand up to a moment's scrutiny. The sufferings of the people of Darfur and the Democratic Republic of Congo were also the result of man's inhumanity to man. But those appeals were shown without objection. The BBC's management acts as if there is one rule for Africans and another for Palestinians.

Senate OKs 4-month Delay To Digital TV Changeover

People who have not gotten their TV sets ready for the changeover to digital signals could earn a four-month reprieve under a bill making its way through Congress.

The Senate voted Monday to delay until June 12 the deadline for the changeover from analog to digital television broadcasting. People still getting their pictures through old-fashioned antennas otherwise would face a Feb. 17 cutoff.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am one of those people who have a digital TV set, but whereas I could easily watch analog TV in this area, the digital signal keeps breaking up.

The idea may have sounded good, but is failing in implementation. The real result of this change is to force everyone to subscribe to cable TV.

The BBC’s pact with Israel

Many people have been shocked and bewildered by the BBC’s refusal to broadcast a national humanitarian appeal for Gaza on behalf of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), an umbrella organization for 13 humanitarian aid agencies.

However, the decision by the BBC’s director-general, Mark Thompson, not to broadcast the appeal should have come as no surprise. In fact, media observers have been witnessing a steady tilt by the corporation towards Israel since the turn of the millennium.

The BBC’s pact with Israel

The BBC’s refusal to broadcast a humanitarian appeal for Gaza on behalf of a group of charities is motivated by a desire to appease US advertisers for its commercial TV channel and website, and by Mark Thompson’s own political proclivities.

Jan 26 15:50

Comment: Gaza appeal was quiet, factual and effective

Quiet, factual, unhistrionic — last night’s Disasters Emergency Committee’s appeal was all the more effective for those qualities. Images of suffering were matched to scripted assertion and then backed up by statistics.

Sixty per cent of Gaza was living in poverty: 300,000 were without access to running water; 40 per cent were without electricity. There was less editorialising than the most objective BBC correspondent’s dispatch. “Several hundred have been killed,” said the voiceover. Note the passive voice. “Today this is not about the rights and wrongs of the conflict.” Israel was not mentioned.

Webmaster's Commentary:

BBC looks all the worse for this.

BBC’s Mark Thompson Exposed for Refusing Gaza Aid Appeal

That Mark Thompson has been supporting Zionist leaders is no secret. In fact, Mark Thompson’s wife, Jane, is Jewish and a fanatic supporter of Zionist policies. Is Mark simply trying to appease his wife? If he is, then this has to be one of the most outrageous acts in the history of British media. The glaring disregard for human suffering, however, can only be explained by Mark Thompson’s close relationship with Israeli leaders. In 2005, Mr. Thompson broke all rules of independent journalism when he travelled to Jerusalem and met former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in order to “build bridges” between the BBC and Israel. This unprecedented move was not covered by Western media, but the Israeli press gave it significant importance.

Beeb airwave strike on Gaza is deadly

THE BBC's admirable reporter Alan Johnston was rescued from his cruel incarceration in Gaza by the Palestinian government led by Hamas.

At the time, the BBC thanked the people of Gaza, and Hamas Prime Minister Ismael Haniya in particular, for breaking the criminal gang of extortionists who had seized their man - at the risk of their own lives to save his.

Now in the winter of their hardships, as 61,000 families shiver in the ruins of their bombed-out houses, in rags and hungry, the same BBC has stabbed them in the back.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I do not know how it works in Great Britain, but here in the US TV stations must document that they are operating in the public interest to renew their licenses.

Clearly, while BBC is operating in Israel's interests, it can be show to be operating contrary to the interests of the public that pays the bills.

BBC's TV detector vans to remain a state secret

Although most detection is done by database the Beeb still claims to maintain a fleet of vans which can tell if a particular address contains a TV. If you buy or rent a TV or buy a PC tuner card in the UK your address is passed onto TV Licensing. The BBC maintains a database of 29 million residential and business addresses which it can check for up-to-date licences. If there is no response to letters an "enquiry officer" is sent to the address. If householders refuse them access - which is quite legal - then a detector van will be sent.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Just a reminder that the British subjects pay a license fee for BBC, which means it is a public trust. For BBC to carry out Israel's wishes regarding the Gaza fundraiser is a theft of service from the British people.

Send the lot of them to The Tower! (I'll pay the license fee just to watch that!)

BBC’s Scottish HQ Occupied

Activists have occupied the Glasgow offices of the BBC. The backlash against the BBC has been unprecedented. Having first slavishly followed the Israeli propaganda line, the BBC is now denying the collection of much needed aid for the long-suffering denizens of Gaza . This is not a trivial matter: as Tony Benn put it, people will die as a consequence of the BBC’s choices. And in this case, its choices have been dictated by the Israeli embassy.

Webmaster's Commentary:
