Report: Netanyahu says will not send delegation to Cairo talks

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not plan to send a delegation for negotiations in Cairo as stipulated by the ceasefire agreement that ended seven weeks of fighting in Gaza, Israeli media reported Monday.

Channel 10 said in a TV report that Netanyahu told his cabinet in a closed session that he would not send as agreed a delegation to Egypt for further talks regarding a seaport and airport in Gaza, the release of Palestinian prisoners, the demilitarization of Gaza factions, and the delivery of bodies of Israeli soldiers presumed held by Hamas, among other unresolved issues.

Netanyahu spoke proudly to his cabinet about the Gaza offensive, saying Hamas had not achieved any of its demands, according to the report.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So Israel has already violated the terms of the cease fire, and will no doubt now try to pin the blame on HAMAS.

Israelis unsure whether they won or lost in Gaza

Despite hailing as a victory the seven weeks of fighting that killed more than 2,100 Palestinians and destroyed large swathes of Gaza’s infrastructure, Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, appears to have emerged as the main political casualty of Operation Protective Edge. In late July, Netanyahu’s approval ratings stood at 82 per cent. Last week, as the ceasefire began, his popularity had plummeted to 32 per cent.

Some 400 hectares (988 acres) in the Etzion settlement bloc near Bethlehem were declared “state land, on the instructions of the political echelon” by the military-run Civil Administration.

Israel Radio said the step was taken in response to the kidnapping and killing of three Jewish teens by Hamas militants in the area in June. The notice published by the military gave no reason for the decision.

“But is it Good for the Jews?” An Analysis by Lawrence Davidson

Can we assume that Zionism and Israel are good for the Jews? The answer is no, we cannot. Zionism failed the Jews by insisting on an Israel for one group alone. That insistence has inevitably led to racism, discrimination and ethnic cleansing. These are not practices that have characterized modern Jewry and so it is simply wrong to equate Zionism with Judaism and insist that Israel stands in for the world’s Jews. The more Jews who understand this, and begin to publicly distance themselves from both Zionism and Israel, the better, for they can safely assume both are bad for the Jews.

Israel confiscates nearly 1,000 acres of Palestinian land in the West Bank

Israel on Sunday confiscated nearly 1,000 acres of privately owned Palestinian land near an Israeli settlement south of Bethlehem in the West Bank — a move described by Israeli rights group Peace Now as “unprecedented in its scope since the 1980s."

Settlements built on Palestinian land occupied by Israel, including East Jerusalem, are deemed illegal by the United Nations. Israel’s refusal to halt their construction and expansion has at times arrested the peace process and increased resentment and distrust among Palestinians.

In a statement published on its website, Peace Now condemned the latest land confiscation and said it further damaged the chance of achieving a last peace between Israelis and Palestinians based on a two-state solution.

How the Palestinians Won

Twas not a famous victory – but that’s what the Palestinians of Gaza are celebrating. There was much shaking of heads in the international media when the fireworks burst over that shattered land on Tuesday night. After more than 2,100 dead – about 1,700 of them civilians – and 100,000 wounded, what did they have to crow about? An end to the killing? Peace?

Well, no. In fact, Hamas – the vicious, horrible, terrorist Hamas with whom “we” (as in “the West”, Tony Blair, Israel, the US and all honourable men and women) cannot talk – has indeed won a victory.

Israel's defense establishment recommends easing Gaza restrictions

Israel's defense establishment will recommend to politicians that they show generosity in indirect negotiations with Hamas when discussing the conditions for a permanent cease-fire, in order to forestall renewed hostilities at the end of September. In an article published in the September 6th edition of The Palestine Chronicle (“Imagining Palestinians as Equal”) I began with this quote from novelist Aldous Huxley: “The propagandist’s purpose is to make one set of people forget that certain other sets of people are human.” It is the key to separating out what is blatant propaganda and what is fair and honest communication.

The purpose of Israel’s political firewall is blocking out and discrediting the testimony of the people it abuses on a daily basis and their supporters, through using high level elites.

Calls to Fire Minister as Fallout Over Gaza Operation Continues

Senior Likud MK Ofer Akunis calls on PM Netanyahu to fire Tourism Minister Landau for saying Israel 'lost' Gaza Operation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel did lose the Gaza operation, and firing ministers and Netanyahu's proclamations cannot change that. For Israel to be seen as victorious, HAMAS (if not all the Gazans) had to be removed. For HAMAS (and the Gazans) to be seen as victorious, they merely had to endure, which is what they did. Along the way, Israel destroyed their reputation as permanent victim and stands revealed to the world as the aggressor, striking from behind the flimsiest of lies and justifications.

“These are war crimes,” says father of Gaza family wiped out by Israeli airstrike

An elder cousin daubed the blood that dripped from a wound near Thaer Jouda’s left eye Tuesday afternoon as the nine-year-old lay in a bed in Gaza City’s al-Shifa hospital.

“He’s very good in English,” the cousin said. But Thaer, his face and body lacerated by shrapnel from an Israeli airstrike on Sunday and his right leg amputated at the knee, had little interest in talking.

The bombing, which injured Thaer and his eleven-year-old sister Rahaf, also killed his mother Rawiya (43 years old), his sisters Tasnim (14) and Raghida (13) and his brothers Muhammad (8) and Usama (6).

The five deaths made the Joudas, residents of Tal al-Zaatar in the northern Gaza Strip’s Jabaliya area, one of the hardest-hit of the 91 families counted by the Palestinian Ministry of Health who lost multiple members during single attacks during Israel’s 51-day military offensive.

Elizabeth Warren finally speaks on Israel/Gaza, sounds like Netanyahu

The last time Elizabeth Warren was asked about her views on the Israeli attack on Gaza – on July 17 – she, as Rania Khalek put it, “literally ran away” without answering. But last week, the liberal Senator appeared for one of her regularly scheduled “office hours” with her Massachusetts constituents, this one in Hyannis, and, as a local paper reported, she had nowhere to run.

One voter who identified himself as a Warren supporter, John Bangert, stood up and objected to her recent vote, in the middle of the horrific attack on Gaza, to send yet another $225 million of American taxpayer money to Israel for its “Iron Dome” system. Banger told his Senator: “We are disagreeing with Israel using their guns against innocents. It’s true in Ferguson, Missouri, and it’s true in Israel . . . The vote was wrong, I believe.” To crowd applause, Bangert told Warren that the money “could have been spent on infrastructure or helping immigrants fleeing Central America.”

Although they have only finished about 1/3 of our representations of the children murdered in Gaza the Granny Peace Brigade brought them to a demonstration organized by Jews Say No at the subway station on W. 96th St. and Broadway yesterday. Jews Say No does this regularly in an effort to engage with the community and discuss what is happening in Israel/Palestine. The reaction to the Gaza children representations was very strong. Many people gave the Grannies a thumbs-up or came over to speak saying they were glad to see them there. Several others were very passionate in their condemnation, screaming, calling the Grannies ignorant and anti-semites, and accusing them of pandering to people’s feelings. For the most part the demonstrators didn’t respond to the attacks. When there is one representation for each murdered child they will be taken to public places around the city and displayed.

#OperationCeasefire ~~ THE WAR THAT WILL GO DOWN IN THE ANUS OF HISTORY

Some wars are recorded in the annals of history, the last Israeli incursion into Gaza will definitely go down in its anus.

Both sides claim victory, yet there is no victor.

Gaza lost over 2,000 innocent civilians including over 250 children. Neighbourhoods, schools, hospitals were totally destroyed by Israel’s indiscriminate bombings. Israel (re)gained complete control of the Strip by giving legitimacy to the illegitimate Mahmoud Abbas.

Where I come from, THAT IS NOT A VICTORY!

Israel's "Qualitative Military Edge": Blank Checks, No Balance?

This month the Wall Street Journal reported that the Obama administration had slowed the shipment of Hellfire missiles to Israel after it bombed a UN school in Gaza on Aug. 3 with the US-made weapon. The White House has insisted that weapons transfers to Israel have not been suspended or halted, and that the administration is only “taking extra care to look at these shipments.” Yet some analysts understood the unusual decision as a warning message to Tel Aviv about the use of disproportionate force. Whether or not that’s true, it’s no secret that the United States is Israel’s biggest source of military assistance, even if the White House has not been completely aware about the extent of that support.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, in a real way, Israel's defeat in Gaza is also the White House's defeat!

Israel lost the war in Gaza but the struggle for justice goes on

There is one clear reason to celebrate the ceasefire deal Israel and the Palestinian resistance reached today: 51 days and nights of relentless Israeli massacres and destruction have come to an end in Gaza.

With reports that Israel has agreed to reopen Gaza’s borders, Hamas announced victory and Palestinians, especially in Gaza, are celebrating. Among many Israelis, meanwhile, there is a feeling of bitterness and defeat.

“What Netanyahu and his colleagues have brought down on Israel, in a conflict between the region’s strongest army and an organization numbering 10,000, is not just a defeat. It’s a downfall,” wrote Haaretz’s Amir Oren in a stunning admission of how much Israel has been set back.

Israel, Hamas agree to Egypt-brokered cease-fire

The cease-fire includes an agreement to open border crossings between Gaza and Israel to allow the flow of humanitarian relief, assistance and materials for reconstruction in Gaza, Abdelatty said. Palestinians will also be allowed to fish in an area up to six miles off the Gaza coast into the Mediterranean, up from three miles, he said.

"The deal includes as well the continuation of indirect talks between the two sides here in Egypt to tackle other areas of mutual interest and concerns," he said, adding that those indirect talks will begin within a month. Those discussions will include issues such as building a seaport and airport in Gaza, and Israel's demand that Hamas disarm.

Palestinians reach long-term truce with Israel: Officials

According to Palestinian sources, the Palestinians and the Israelis agreed to a permanent ceasefire on Tuesday.

"The contacts that have been going on have agreed a permanent ceasefire, a (deal to) end the blockade and a guarantee that Gaza's demands and needs will be met," media quoted a senior unnamed Palestinian official as saying.

Meanwhile, Mussa Abu Marzuk, a senior official from the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, said the truce marks a victory for the Palestinians. He added that the truce is expected to be officially announced in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

The developments come as previous temporary ceasefires have failed to produce a deal between the two sides.

The contentious subject at the Cairo talks has been the issue of the Israeli blockade of the impoverished territory.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sounds good, but for two problems. This article says "Palestinians" rather than HAMAS, and may represent an end-run around HAMAS by Israel which was trying to make a deal with Abbas. HAMAS is not bound by any deals Abbas makes.

Second problem; Israel never keeps their agreements.

"The latest studies indicate that now a majority of younger people in America are no longer supportive of Israeli policies," said Prof. Safi in an exclusive interview with Fars News Agency. "For the first time, many Americans are able to see firsthand the reality of the brutal oppression that Palestinians have been suffering from for decades. War without mercy is official Israeli policy. Rule of law principles don't matter.

Throughout its entire history, Israel waged genocidal war on Palestine.

Its 1947-48 War of Independence prioritized an exclusive Jewish state with no Arab presence.

Strategy was by any means possible. It included mass murder, destruction and forced displacement.

According to historian Ilan Pappe, Israeli policy involved "large-scale intimidation; laying siege to and bombarding villages and population centres; setting fire to homes, properties and goods; expulsion; demolition; and finally, planting mines among the rubble to prevent any of the expelled inhabitants from returning."

Israel's dirty war took six months to complete. It was a walkover. It forcibly displaced about 800,000 Palestinians. It murdered many others.

It destroyed 531 villages and 11 urban neighborhoods in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa and other cities.

Starve or surrender: Cut off all food and water to Gaza, says Israeli general

Israeli Major-General Giora Eiland has urged that all food and water be cut off to Gaza’s nearly 1.8 million Palestinian residents – a major war crime and precisely the “starve or surrender” policy which the United States has condemned when used in Syria.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Back in 1948, the Soviet Union blockaded the highway that connected West Berlin with West Germany. Their goal was to starve the West Berliners into abandoning their own government and accepting Soviet rule through the proxy of East Germany. Then too, the strategy was :surrender or die." The world responded to this crime by mounting the Berlin Airlift, which for over a year flew in food, medicine, and other needed supplies to keep West Berlin alive until the Soviet Union relented and allowed the highway to reopen.

Why are we not seeing the same response when Israel does the same thing to Gaza?

With much to hide, Israel is running scared

It seems that Israel will not be cooperating with a panel set up by the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to investigate possible war crimes committed by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip. Israel’s Foreign Ministry is bitterly critical of the probe and the panel, claiming that the findings of UNHRC’s investigations are predetermined, while the prime minister and the foreign minister announced that UNHRC long ago became the ‘Terrorists Rights Council’ and a ‘kangaroo court’.

The Israeli position towards UNHRC is not surprising considering the UN body has found Israel guilty in the past.

Israel Retracts False Claim Regarding Alleged Hamas Rocket Base

Israeli officials retracted this morning their earlier claim on Friday that the rocket that killed a four-year-old child in Southern Israel was launched from an UNRWA school in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli news reports that the rocket was launched from an UNRWA school were false. The same media outlets that rushed to report the incident without seeking confirmation from UNRWA are required and called upon to also report the Israeli army retraction. We also call on Israeli military spokespersons and other official sources to ensure the accuracy of their facts before going public.

“The Right To Exist” – States or People?

It is a curious phrase this “right to exist”. Israel wants the world to accept its “right to exist” as a state, but it denies the indigenous Palestinians their right to exist as a people in their own land. International relations only acknowledges the rights of people, not states. [1] States exist because of the formal recognition afforded them by other states, and now that Israel is recognised as a state, it in fact exists. It makes no sense to demand that a political party recognise Israel’s “right to exist”, much less punish 4 million Palestinians because a majority voted the Hamas Party into government. Yet, these are the very words that are holding the Palestinians, particularly those in Gaza, to an impossible ransom.

Israeli F-16 Missile Attacks Venezuelan Humanitarian Aid Mission in Gaza

Venezuelan ambassador to Egypt, Juan Antonio Hernandez, said Wednesday that an Israeli aircraft attacked the Venezuelan humanitarian delegation in Rafah along the border post between Egypt and Palestine. The delegation was delivering twelve tons of aid to the Palestinian people. No one was injured during the attack.

The F-16 airplane dropped a missile very close to the humanitarian site, though it did not explode. The ambassador confirmed that the missile fell approximately 50 to 70 meters from the site.

El Universal reported that Roni Kaplan, the spokesperson of the Israel Defense Forces, asserted that “there was no attack by the Israeli forces on the Egyptian side of Gaza. The air force has not attacked nor launched sound bombs to any humanitarian convoy on its way to Gaza from Egypt.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

US Media Rules of Reporting on Israeli ‘Operations’ in Gaza

Since Hamas fired its first projectile from Gaza into Israel in 2001, the US establishment media have strictly followed several rules of reporting on the “rockets.” These rules are unwritten. The scriveners and TV news broadcasters may not even think of them as rules. Nevertheless, American mass media reporting on Gaza rockets consistently and predictably follows one absolute, overarching, principle: Israel is always the victim. The rules implement this First Principle. Short are the careers of those who transgress them.

The media faithfully have followed the rules in “Operation Protective Edge.” A reasonable person could fairly describe “Protective Edge” as US-tax dollar funded, Israeli-delivered bombs, tank and artillery shells, missiles, flechette grenades and other explosive devices which sometimes kill dozens of civilians in the Gaza strip a day. No consumer of US mass media will ever hear that description, of course. It offends the First Principle.

Zim Piraeus drops off tracking system

Webmaster's Commentary:

Earlier this week, the Zim Piraeus tried a fast one by sailing away from the Oakland terminal and heading out past the Golden Gate bridge, then after the protesters left, doubled back. The protesters came back, and supported by the Longshoremen (who were angered by a union contract violation), blocked the unloading one more time, with the Zim Piraeus only able to unload 2% of her cargo. Yesterday, the ship tracking network showed the Zim Piraeus headed northwest at 16 knots, but it has dropped off the tracking system. Is it simply out of range, or has the Captain shut off the reporting system and even now headed back to Oakland?

Handbook: 7 Basic Propaganda Devices

As part of our ongoing effort to expose propaganda techniques, we are posting the propaganda section of the Hasbara Handbook: Promoting Israel on Campus, originally leaked by Wikispooks. It is more than a decade old, as it refers to PLO leader Yasser Arafat, who passed away in 2004.

Propaganda is used by those who want to communicate in ways that engage the emotions, and downplay rationality, in an attempt to promote a certain message. To effectively present Israel to the public, and to counter anti-Israel messages, it is necessary to understand propaganda devices.

This article applies a list of seven propaganda devices to the Israeli situation, and by doing so allows an understanding of some of the ways in which public opinion is fought for in the International arena.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Note that the actual listing of techniques is written from the Israeli point of view.

A LETTER FROM THE WEST BANK ~~ WE ARE ONE WITH GAZA

I have not written much lately and this email maybe personal and hard. Our days start early and end very late. Our nights are also occasionally interrupted by calls from friends in Gaza or others who need some support. In the past 48 hours, over 100 Palestinian civilians were killed by Israeli occupation forces. Many of those are in Rafah. Sometimes I feel guilty that I am affected more by those I know than those who die that I did not know. For example, I cried after I hung-up the phone with Islam, a friend in Rafah who has four children and they can’t sleep and their house shook and windows shattered as missiles rained on homes nearby. I cried because I know him and his handicapped son and his dilemma at whether to try to carry his son and run to the street or not. But then I cried some more thinking of the many innocents who got killed and injured and who I dd not personally know and did not cry for them earlier. Islam and his family will be traumatized for life.

Gaza and the limits of ‘objective’ reporting

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has always been a lopsided affair. On 14 July, US satirist Jon Stewart highlighted the disparity in the ‘war’ between Israel and Gaza. Playing an NBC news clip, Stewart noted the clothing of the two correspondents. In Tel Aviv, Martin Fletcher wore a breezy polo shirt, while in Gaza Ayman Mohyeldin was equipped in a full flak suit.

‘He looks like an extra from The Hurt Locker!’ Stewart exclaimed, imploring his audience to comprehend the folly of trying to balance both sides of this particular story.

Things cannot stay the same after Israeli genocide in Gaza

After every bloody episode of violence perpetrated by Israel, media spin doctors are often deployed with one grand mission: to absolve Israel of any responsibility in their acts of carnage.

Not only do these apologists demonize Palestinians, but anyone who dares to take a stand on their behalf. The main staple of this Israeli strategy has been blaming the victim. Such a tactic is nothing new in the way the so-called "Arab-Israeli conflict" has been presented in Western media, whose narrative has been much closer to that of Israeli official and media discourses than that of Palestinians. This continued despite the decades-long military occupation, successive wars, and countless massacres.

Israeli settlers unleash dog pack on Palestinian kids

Israeli settlers have unleashed a large pack of dogs on Palestinian children, brutally injuring one near Salfit in the center of the occupied West Bank.

The dogs harshly savaged the five-year-old boy, who is in dire need of several surgeries, including a facial reconstructive one.

The boy, identified as Karmel Moayyad Shakir, was playing with his peers in the village of Azawiyeh when the illegal settlers from the nearby Kannat settlement arrived at the spot along with a large pack of dogs.

Before the boy’s family could intervene, the dogs attacked the five-year-old who was lucky enough not to die, yet sustained severe injuries.

US accuses Israel of targeting relatives of kidnapped and murdered Palestinian 16-year-old

The United States on Wednesday charged Israel had targeted members of a Palestinian family whose teenaged son was kidnapped and killed in July along with two cousins, who are US citizens.

Tensions between Palestinians and Israelis in annexed east Jerusalem plunged to a new low on July 2 when 16-year-old Mohammed Abu Khder was snatched from an east Jerusalem street and later found burned alive.

Israeli police arrested six alleged Jewish extremists as suspects and on July 17 charged three, freeing the others.

Webmaster's Commentary:

BEX ALERT - Top Hamas sheikh admits to June kidnapping of Israeli teens

Sheikh Saleh al-Arouri, a senior Hamas religious figure, is heard on the video saying that he “blessed the heroic action” which was “carried out by the al-Qassam Brigades” — the armed wing of Hamas. This action, “the kidnapping to Hebron of the three settlers,” was an “operation spoken of far and wide,” al-Arouri added.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel just posted this story and as is to be expected, the corporate media is giving it headline treatment without questioning the story. Nobody ever came up with a reason why HAMAS, which at the time was trying to build world support for their Unity government, would have done such a stupid thing. Nobody has explained why the abductors, whose voices were captured in the cell phone call made by one of the victims, were speaking Hebrew.

Assuming that this is the real Saleh al-Arouri and he is not being intentionally mistranslated (again), why would he hand Israel such a potent propaganda weapon on a silver platter, especially since the IDF destroyed his home last June?

This does not pass the smell test at all!

Revered Rabbi Preaches “Slaughter” of Gentile Babies

Nazareth: A rabbi from one of the most violent settlements in the West Bank was questioned on suspicion of incitement last week as Israeli police stepped up their investigation into a book in which he sanctions the killing of non-Jews, including children and babies.

Rabbi Yitzhak Shapira is one of the leading ideologues of the most extreme wing of the religious settler movement. He is known to be a champion of the “price-tag” policy of reprisal attacks on Palestinians, including punishing them for attempts by officials to enforce Israeli law against the settlements.

So far the policy has chiefly involved violent harassment of Palestinians, with settlers inflicting beatings, attacking homes, throwing stones, burning fields, killing livestock and poisoning wells.

It is feared, however, that Shapira’s book The King’s Torah, published last year, is intended to offer ideological justifications for widening the scope of such attacks to include killing Palestinians, even children.

ISRAEL IS KILLING THE FAMILY OF JESUS

So here is the deal. Some of the people walking around Palestine, Gaza, and the West Bank are blood relatives of Jesus. Distant blood relatives, but still blood relatives. Given 2000 years, it is possible that the vast majority of present day Palestinians are remote relatives of Jesus.

Israel is killing them.

And YOU are paying for it, which means you share the guilt. YOU are paying for the weapons used to kill the modern day family of Jesus. The moment you sign that 1040 form, you sign a confession, admitting before all the world that you are an accessory in the murder.

Think you are going to get into heaven after an insult like that?

Webmaster's Commentary:

By using your money to buy weapons for Israel's war crimes, the US Government has made you all accessories to those war crimes. And you cannot get off the hook by saying, "I am only obeying the government." The Nuremberg trials at the end of WW2 established the principle that simply following the orders of your superiors does not exonerate you of guilt. Only by openly opposing Israel's war crimes will history regard you as blameless for what is being done to Gaza.

ANTI SEMITISM DOES NOT HELP THE PALESTINIAN CAUSE

The most recent incident took place in Sweden just a few days ago. It received page one coverage throughout the zionist media, not as a news item but rather as a confirmation to their readers that this was in connection to supporting Israel. Both those media outlets and the attackers themselves are JUST PLAIN WRONG! The only ones benefiting by such actions are the zionists themselves, surely not the Pro Palestinian Movements. The burning of Jewish owned shops or synagogues in Paris will not rebuild the shops and mosques destroyed in Gaza, nor will those actions garner sympathy from people who have not yet sided with us. Once again, it’s only the zionists that benefit from this. In fact, I will go even further by saying that the vast majority of these ‘anti Semitic’ incidents are actually propaganda hoaxes by Israel’s supporters.

US Pressuring PA Not to Sue Israel for 'War Crimes'

A report on Monday reveals that America and other Western countries are pressuring the Palestinian Authority (PA) not to carry out its threat of suing Israel at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for "war crimes."

This is Israel's classic maneuver to wreck peace talks, at the last second asking for "Just one more thing", and if they get it, "Just one more thing", and if they get THAT, "Just one more thing", until the other side refuses, then Israel dumps the blame for the failed peace talks on the other side.

A central London branch of a major UK supermarket emptied its kosher food shelf after its manager feared anti-Israeli protesters outside would attack the store, the grocery giant has confirmed.

Meats, cheeses and sauces were removed and placed into cool storage at a Sainsbury's Local branch in Holborn as it was picketed by demonstrators calling on the grocer to boycott Israeli goods.

THE UN SAT AND WATCHED, PHOTOGRAPHED THE CARNAGE IN GAZA, AND DID NOTHING!

The United Nations released the Gaza Crisis Atlas on Sunday, showing the physical damage wrought on the Strip during IDF Operation Protective Edge using satellite imagery. The 108-page document will be used by a UN investigatory committee on the conflict.

The Atlas overlays a grid over Gaza, dividing it into smaller parcels – with each one receiving a detailed page noting the locations of schools, mosques, and public buildings on high-resolution satellite footage.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The UN did nothing because the US always vetoes everything regarding Israel in the Security Council.

“THEY PULLED ME BACK IN…”

How handy. All three US networks and the increasingly shackled BBC were ordered to drop Gaza reporting and refocus their camera teams on the suffering Yazidis and, all of a sudden, Iraq’s fleeing Christians.

This was a brilliant media ploy. The world, which was furious at the US for enabling Israel’s savaging of Gaza and killing of almost 2,000 Palestinians, switched its attention to the hitherto unknown Yazidis, and to Iraqi Christians. No one in the US had ever heard of Yazidis but that was ok. Uncle Sam to the rescue.

No mention was made that Iraq’s Christians had been safe and sound under President Saddam Hussein – even privileged – until President George Bush invaded and destroyed Iraq. We can expect the same fate for Syria’s Christians if the protection of the Assad regime is torn away by the US-engineered uprising. We will then shed crocodile tears for Syria’s Christians.

We Have Had Enough of Elie Wiesel and His Ilk

According to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, the London Times refused to run an ad featuring Elie Wiesel speaking out against Hamas’ use of children as human shields.

The ad’s headline reads: “Jews rejected child sacrifice 3,500 years ago. Now it’s Hamas’ turn.” Wiesel’s statement is a blatant lie and the London Times knew it.

Jews have never stopped sacrificing their children. The Hannibal Protocol is an IDF directive that orders soldiers to take ‘necessary measures’ to prevent their comrades from being captured by enemy forces. ‘Necessary measures’ include risking the life of the Israeli soldier and anyone who happens to be in his vicinity. Similarly, the Kastner Affair shows that at the peak of the Shoah, Ben Gurion and the Zionist establishment were willing to sacrifice many Jewish lives on the altar of the Zionist goal.

What Do Jews Say About Palestine and Gaza?

313 Jewish survivors and descendants of survivors and victims of the Nazi genocide have signed a letter stating:

As Jewish survivors and descendants of survivors and victims of the Nazi genocide we unequivocally condemn the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza and the ongoing occupation and colonization of historic Palestine. We further condemn the United States for providing Israel with the funding to carry out the attack, and Western states more generally for using their diplomatic muscle to protect Israel from condemnation. Genocide begins with the silence of the world.

We are alarmed by the extreme, racist dehumanization of Palestinians in Israeli society, which has reached a fever-pitch. In Israel, politicians and pundits in The Times of Israel and The Jerusalem Post have called openly for genocide of Palestinians and right-wing Israelis are adopting Neo-Nazi insignia.

Netanyahu Threatens ‘Massive Response’ if Gaza Ceasefire Expires

The current 5-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is scheduled to expire at midnight local time, and it isn’t clear if a deal will be reached on the Egyptian-backed truce.

Both sides are warning of a willingness to resume the war, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is making much of his plans for “massive retaliation” if Hamas allows the ceasefire to lapse.

A lot of the threats on both sides are simple bargaining tactics, of course, but a lot of the hawks in Israel’s security cabinet are sincere in wanting talks to end entirely, and without a deal.

#OperationCeasefire ~~ THE TRUCE THAT ALMOST WAS LOOKS UNLIKELY NOW

Israel will not agree to any long-term ceasefire in Gaza at indirect talks in Cairo unless its security needs are clearly met, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday.”The Israeli delegation in Cairo is acting with a very clear mandate to stand firmly on Israel’s security needs,” Netanyahu told ministers at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem.

“Only if there is a clear answer to Israel’s security needs, only then will we agree to reach an understanding,” he said, as Israel’s negotiating team made its way back to Cairo for indirect talks with Palestinians over a long-term arrangement to end more than a month of bloodshed in Gaza.

Four Reasons Why Americans Should Oppose Zionism

Israel has been subject to some bad publicity recently. In 2008-09, it launched a brutal military campaign in the Gaza Strip that killed over 400 Palestinian children. In May, 2010, bumbling Israeli commandos murdered nine nonviolence activists on the relief flotilla Mavi Marmara. It only got worse for Israel when it was revealed that soldiers stole and sold personal items such as laptops from the ship. Last week, former Israeli soldier Eden Abergil posted photos onto facebook showing her preening in front of blindfolded and despondent Palestinian prisoners, in some instances mocking those prisoners with sexual undertones. The photos were part of an album entitled “IDF—the best time of my life.”

Israeli News Site Debunks Netanyahu's Tunnels-to-Kindergartens Myth

One of the most important strikes in the propaganda war for Israel in the last month was dealt by the New York Times and CNN when they ran long pieces giving credence to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that Hamas was building tunnels out of Gaza aimed at kindergartens in nearby kibbutzes.

Back on July 22, Netanyahu asserted– on the basis of this cartoon drawing he tweeted– that the tunnels were aimed at Israeli kindergartens.

In fact (and as we reported), the only Israelis attacked from the tunnels were Israeli soldiers. But a week after Netanyahu’s statement, both the Times and CNN took the prime minister’s claim at face value. The Times’s piece, “ Tunnels Lead Right to Heart of Israeli Fear” gave priority to rumors over actual information, and reported that “ one tunnel was found over the weekend” in Kibbutz Be’eri. The piece quoted a resident of the kibbutz saying,

Petition Seeks to Ban Joan Rivers in Britain Over Gaza

Thousands of people have signed a petition to halt American television host Joan Rivers’ upcoming tour in Britain after her remarks about the crisis in Gaza, Al Arabiya reports.

According to the report, the petition was created by Dipu Ahad, a Labour councilor from Newcastle, and has been signed by more than 20,000 people so far.

The petition urges event organizers to cancel all of Rivers’ upcoming UK tour dates.

Rivers made headlines when she said “Palestinians deserve to be dead” after she was approached by a reporter working for U.S. entertainment website TMZ asking her opinion on the crisis in Gaza.

“They started it. We now don’t count who’s dead. You’re dead, you deserve to be dead... Don’t you dare make me feel sad about that... You don’t get out, then you know you’re an idiot,” Rivers said, according to Al Arabiya.

Ahad said that Rivers was “not welcome in Britain.”

How Israel targeted the children of Gaza

Who in the world would believe that Israeli warplanes would pursue a child who had survived their initial bombing only to kill him 10 days later? This is the reality of the war on Gaza and the story of nine-year-old Ibrahim al-Dawawsa, who lived with his family in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood north of Gaza City. Last Friday around noon, a drone dropped a missile that blew his head off, killing him immediately.

Ibrahim went out to perform the Friday prayers for what turned out to be the last time ever after he heard the call to prayer at al-Nour al-Mohammedi Mosque near his home. He had showered and worn his new clothes, as if he sensed that his moment of death is near and wanted to die pure.

This is the Israeli war machine that has no regard for children or humanity. Very simply, it dropped its bombs over the heads of people flocking to the mosque. When a missile hit Ibrahim, worshippers rushed to where he was only to find him drowning in his own blood.

CODE PINK TO PROTEST LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION BLAMING HAMAS FOR GAZA WAR

August 14, 2014
This is crazy. How can the LA City Council even consider a resolution focusing on Hamas instead of the crimes committed by the Israeli government that killed over 2,000 Palestinians?? We hear it said that Gaza is an open-air prison, but prisoners get at least minimal food, security and heathcare. We must stand against this resolution and let the City Council know this would be a racist and violent move.
Join us this Friday, August 15th at 8:15 AM – At Los Angeles City Hall Main Steps.
The Intergovernmental Relations Committee of the Los Angeles City Council is set to meet on Friday, August 15 at 9AM to consider an outrageous resolution that condemns Hamas and fails to mention Israeli war crimes. The resolution turns reality on its head by implying that Israel is the victim, when in fact it is the engaged in brutal occupation, mass killing of civilians and scores of war crimes. The resolution is an attempt to obscure the truth.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This announcement was sent out as an email and does not yet appear on the Codepink website yet, but the LA City Council, apparently with nothing better to do in the taxpayer dollar than suck up to Israel, is considering a resolution that would drop the blame for 5 weeks of Israel's attacks on Gaza squarely on HAMAS.

Codepink is mobilizing a protest. I know there are a lot of protests going on, and maybe that is a good thing, but this is one you should make a point of getting to if you live in the Los Angeles area. If my wife and I still lived in North Hollywood, we would be heading down to this one ourselves!

Let's review the timetable.

In June, three Israeli teenagers were kidnapped and killed in an IDF-controlled region of the West Bank, not Gaza. ISIS has taken credit and even the Israeli media admits that the two suspects named by the Israeli government are not part of HAMAS, but of a group known for disobeying HAMAS and trying to cause trouble for them.

But Netanyahu declared HAMAS, the legally elected government of Gaza, responsible and launched bombing raids into Gaza using the very latest high-tech weapons provided by the US Government and paid for by the US taxpayers.

To put Israel's actions into perspective, let us recall that over the July 4th weekend, 8 people were killed in Chicago. Using Netanyahu's logic, the Democratic party should be blamed and all of Illinois bombed and invaded!

The Gazans, who were attacked without provocation, fought back with their home-made rockets, which so far have mostly knocked a few roof tiles loose.

But to Israel's supporters, we should all forget that Israel attacked Gaza without a valid reason, and view Gaza's attempts to defend themselves as the crime, so that Israel can go on pounding the Palestinians with their superior weapons.

I want to point something out. The Israelis sit in their tanks, or the drone operations centers, or fly high above Gaza in their US-supplied warplanes, dropping the latest in US-supplied high tech lethal munitions, and imagine themselves the heroes they read about in the Torah. The Israelis, clearly unafraid of HAMAS rockets, line the hills overlooking Gaza and cheer the carnage, much as the Romans at the Colosseum cheered as the Christians were thrown to the lions. The Gazans huddle in their giant open-air prison, without an army, a navy, or an air force, and fight back with home-made rockets made out of plumbing supplies.

Not since Thermopylae has the world seen such courage in the face of overwhelming odds. The Gazans have balls the US and Israel can only dream of, and the world will remember their courage against the tyrants, and the lies by the corporate media's presstitutes and whorespondents trying to protect Israel's aggression, right alongside the Los Angeles City Council!

Ceasefire between Israel and Gaza Extended but Talks Stall on Lifting Blockade

The ceasefire between Hamas and Israel ends at midnight on Thursday, and there is still no reported deal. Reports say that the new deal's guidelines would create a 500 yard buffer zone on the Gaza side of the border. Also, the blockade would only be eased and not ended as Hamas has demanded.

Obama Reportedly Blocks Israel Missile Shipment

A new report reveals that US President Barack Obama's administration stopped a shipment of missiles to Israel late last month and tightened weapons shipment procedures to Israel, as tensions between the two nations grow amid Operation Protective Edge.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is political theater. The mid-term elections are less than three months away, and early primary results are showing that "Friend of Israel" has become a severe liability at the ballot box. So now we see the latest installment of the Potomac Two-Step, in which pro-Israel candidates feign at least a temporary distancing of themselves from support of Israel.

But the way to make such distancing permanent is to give the pro-Israel candidates the old heave-ho out into the streets, hard enough to bounce three times on the concrete!

#OperationCeasefire UPDATES ~~ WILL THE BILLION$ CONTINUE TO POUR IN IF PEACE BREAKS OUT?

ut Israel and the Diaspora Jewish establishment automatically tag any criticism as anti-Semitic. It’s an old trick – the burden of guilt is shifted from those who perpetrated the Gaza horrors to those who are tainted with so-called anti-Semitism. It’s not us, it’s you, anti-Semitic world. No matter what Israel does, the whole world is against it.

This is nonsense, of course. Just as not every policeman who gives a Jewish driver a traffic ticket is an anti-Semite, as the Jewish organizations try to put it, and not every robbery of a rabbi is a hate crime, so not every criticism of Israel is motivated by hatred of Jews.

US activists to block Israeli cargo in mass shutdown of West Coast ports

The Port of Oakland, California is one of the busiest shipping ports in the United States. On 16 August, it will also be a flashpoint of the growing global movement for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel.

A diverse coalition of groups is coming together to shut down the port and prevent the offloading of an Israeli vessel scheduled to dock Saturday morning. They are targeting Israel’s largest cargo shipping company, Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd.

US Officials: Israel Restocked Ammo During Gaza Offensive Without White House Approval

Israel secured supplies of ammunition from the Pentagon last month without the approval of the White House or the State Department, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

Since officials there were caught off guard as they tried to restrain Israel's campaign in Gaza, the administration of President Barack Obama has tightened controls on arms shipments to Israel, the newspaper said, quoting U.S. and Israeli officials.

But the case illustrated that the White House and the State Department had little influence over the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the paper said, quoting officials from both countries.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, Israel is a thief, stealing from the American people, who were forced to pay for all those weapons.

Worse, the White House didn't catch Israel in the theft!

So, what will the US Government do about it?

Activists Protest Bombing of Gaza and innocent passerby harassed by pro Israel opposition and arrested

Demonstrators protest the violence in Gaza during a pro Palestine rally in Seattle. As protestors lined the sidewalks in Westlake Park, a pro Israel supporter walks by, harassing the demonstrators, yelling in peoples faces, screaming obscenities, and racial slurs. After crossing the street and harassing another group of demonstrators, the man tore off his shirt and began walking towards the group with fists clenched. As someone who wasn’t a part of the demonstration walked by, the pro Israel supporter turned and said something as he passed. The man then turned around as if he was going to swing, but thought better of it. The pro Israel supporter squared off with him, but a Westlake security guard who was watching the interaction pulled out his pepper spray, and sprayed the innocent passerby, grabbed him by the arm and tried to wrestle him to the ground. He was eventually led off into Westlake Center as SPD arrived on the scene.

Tunnels-to-kindergartens propaganda Netanyahu peddled to NYT and CNN is exploded by Israeli news site

The Israeli site +972 has blown that propaganda completely out of the water. A well-researched article in Hebrew that it translated from an educational worker near Gaza states that the tunnels do not appear to be targeted at civilians and they come out more than a mile from any kibbutz, let alone the kindergartens.

Israel insists Protective Edge was 'not a war'

In responding to High Court of Justice petition calling for the operation to be declared a war, the State Attorney claimed Tuesday that the petition must be rejected outright for two main reasons.

The State said the petition does not provide a sufficient cause for the court to order the government to announce the declaration of war – a widely-shared opinion in the coalition on every foreign and defense policy in general, and the declaration of war in particular.

The State Attorney also claimed that the fundamental assumption underlying the basis of the petition – which said "the necessity of declaring the start of war is a social and financial need of the highest order" – was mistaken.

"The declaration of war in and of itself does not necessarily guarantee compensation or financial aid to citizens harmed by the conflict," wrote the State Attorney in the response.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In other words, by refusing to say it was a war, Israel does not have to pay their own citizens who were harmed by falling Iron Dome rockets.

Israel wants a truce that does not include a halt on assassinations

Israeli media reports quoted security officials on Tuesday as saying that currently there are three options available, namely: an international effort to extend the cease-fire, or “surrendering” to some of Hamas’ demands, or launching a new aggression against the Gaza Strip. According to the officials themselves, the latter is less likely to happen.

Security officials added that “Hamas has put on the negotiating table demands for a seaport and an airport as a counterweight to Israel’s demand to strip the sector of any weapon,” and that the Israeli security apparatus “wants to test Hamas’ long-term steps, therefore, Hamas must be prevented from achieving anything that could help the movement’s strength grow.”

Why Israel Is Bad for the Jews

Among the harm that hardline Israeli policies have inflicted on Judaism is the erosion of the traditional Jewish tolerance toward dissent, now virtually forbidden if it involves criticizing Israel, as Danny Schechter learned when he asserted that “Israel is bad for the Jews.”

Noam Chomsky: America's Support for Israel Underwrites Human Atrocities in Gaza

In an interview with Democracy Now!, the renowned political dissident and linguist Noam Chomsky criticized the U.S. media coverage of the Israeli assault on Gaza. "It’s a shameful moment for U.S. media when it insists on being subservient to the grotesque propaganda agencies of a violent, aggressive state," he says. Chomsky also discusses his long-standing view that popular pressure at home is critical to ending the U.S. government’s backing for Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. "The United States continues to provide the critical, decisive support for the atrocities," he says. "Sooner or later, it’s possible—and that’s really up to us—that domestic pressure will compel the U.S. government to join the world on this issue. That will be a decisive change."

Sign the letter condemning the Guardian advert branding those opposing Israel in Gaza as 'child killers'Stop the War Coalition 10 August 2014.

On 11 August 2014, the Guardian published a wildly inaccurate and inflammatory advert from supporters of the state of Israel branding the Palestinian resistance as 'child killers'.

It immediately got readers objecting to the Guardian's decision on its letters page, including our letter below. One reader wrote: "You presumably invoke free speech to accept this advert. However, I would be interested to know whether you would accept a similar advertisement from a pro-Palestinian organisation comparing the behaviour of Israel with that of Nazi Germany. I suspect not."

The Palestinian right of return (Arabic: ?? ???????, ?aqq al-?awda; Hebrew: ?????? ?????????, zkhut hashivah) is a political position or principle asserting that Palestinian refugees, both first-generation refugees (c. 30 to 50,000 people as of 2012) and their descendants (c. 5 million people as of 2012), have a right to return, and a right to the property they themselves or their forebears left behind in what is now Israel and the Palestinian territories (both formerly part of the British Mandate of Palestine), as part of the 1948 Palestinian exodus, a result of the 1948 Palestine war and due to the 1967 Six-Day War.

#OperationCeasefire ~~ HOW THINGS STAND AT THE MOMENT

Demanded by Israel:

A complete halt to firing and hostile action from Gaza.
Israeli control of border crossings to be opened between Gaza and Israel in the framework of the agreement.
Payment of money and any other cash transfers to public workers in Gaza will be carried out only via the Palestinian Authority.

Demanded by Palestinian negotiators:
Expansion of the coastal waters permitted by Israel to Gaza fishermen. The new limit to be determined by Israel according to its security needs.
Reopening by Egypt of the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Sinai. Egypt conditions this on the placement of Mahmoud Abbas’s Palestinian Authority security forces on the Gaza side. Egypt is reportedly demanding 1,000 troops, a number that might be beyond the authority’s capacity.

Fired professor voiced "legitimate outrage" over Gaza attack, say University of Illinois colleagues

Professors from within the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have called on the college to rescind its firing of Steven Salaita over the academic’s Palestine solidarity activities.

As reported previously on The Electronic Intifada, revelations from various sources have strongly suggested that the University of Illinois was lobbied by Zionist groups opposed to Salaita’s hiring as an associate professor in the Department of American Indian Studies. The sacking was condemned in an open letter by senior professors from around North America, and by the American Association of University Professors.

Now, in a statement sent to members and posted as a PDF file on its website, the executive committee for the Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (CSAMES) at the University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign has spelled out its opposition to its own management’s actions.
