Wyoming outlaws citizen science, bans photos of Yellowstone

Imagine: you’re in Yellowstone National Park and it’s the trip of a lifetime. And you’ve taken the picture (or two) of a lifetime. Perhaps it’s one of the geysers, or a magnificent sunset or a black bear playing in the trees. What if you submitted that photo to the National Weather Service for them to publish on their Facebook page or to a contest sponsored by the Forest Service? According to a new law in Wyoming, that could land you in jail.

The dire ObamaCare threat to New York’s hospitals

The bottom line of Stringer’s report: Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, aka ObamaCare, Uncle Sam will cut more than $800 million in payments to the city’s Health and Hospitals Corp, by Fiscal Year 2019.

The president’s signature law slashes federal payments that long helped out hospitals serving lots of patients who lack insurance. The idea was that the law would boost coverage so dramatically the aid would be unnecessary.

Except that illegal immigrants don’t qualify for ObamaCare coverage — and they make up a big chunk of the city’s uninsured population.

The world of Globalism, the galaxy of slavery

By Jon Rappoport

I’ve been chipping away and drilling the rock of Globalism for some years now. At times, connections between my various investigations seemed uncertain, but eventually the picture swam into view.

Medically caused death and destruction. Toxic drugs. Toxic vaccines. Genetically modified food plants and their poisonous pesticides. International trade treaties. Manufactured unemployment. The pseudoscience of psychiatry. Political and media dupes. The art of group propaganda. Indoctrination and lowered IQ through education. Television mind control. Banking. Wall Street. Technocracy. And dozens more subjects.

The carrier of the Globalist world was chosen at the end of World War 2. It already existed, of course. But now it was seen as the prime instrument: The mega-corporation...

How obeying the law will no longer be enough to protect you from the police

Even if you are not suspected of committing any crime, you could be hit by orders preventing you from speaking in public or associating with specific people.

The planned "snooper's charter" will give the police the right to read your private messages, even if you're not suspected of any wrongdoing. Now, it seems that if they see anything they don't like (even if it isn't criminal) they won't be obliged to leave you alone.

We know that the Tory government are also planning to scrap the current Human Rights Act and replace it with one that would introduce a "threshold below which Convention [human] rights will not be engaged" - allowing UK courts to strike out certain cases.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Needless to say the online poll at the bottom of the article is showing 92% NO about Cameron's policies.

"Failure to Obey" Documentary on Checkpoint Refusal (full movie)

One hundred twenty kilometers from the US-Mexico border, Steven Anderson thought his constitutional right to be free of unlawful search and seizure was intact. That was where, in 2009, Customs and Border Patrol stopped Anderson, a pastor, and indicated that a canine had alerted them to the presence of hidden drugs or humans in the back
of his car. When Anderson refused to consent to a search, the Texas
Department of Public Safety smashed his windows and tased the leader of
Faithful Word Baptist Church. His new documentary examines what life is like for the 197 million Americans who live within 100 miles of the US border, and under the scrutiny of checkpoint searches.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Of course, here in Hawaii, there is no place more than 100 miles from the national border! I would also point out that this "Constitution free" law is unconstitutional, and under the US Supreme Court ruling Marbury vs Madison is automatically null and void.

Oil Billionaire Attempts to Silence University Quake Researchers

Fossil fuel partisans in the Sooner State were rattled late last month when the Oklahoma Geological Survey (OGS) released a statement that the rapid increase in the state’s seismic activity was very likely caused by humans—specifically the “injection/disposal of water associated with oil and gas production.”

One billionaire oilman decided to take action—not about the message but about the messengers. Emails exposed by Bloomberg News reveal that Harold Hamm, the founder and CEO of Continental Resources, one of America’s ten biggest energy independents, asked the dean of the University of Oklahoma’s College of Earth and Energy to fire scientists involved with the OGS report, an official publication of the university.

“Mr. Hamm is very upset at some of the earthquake reporting to the point that he would like to see select OGS staff dismissed,” Dean Larry Grillot wrote to a couple of colleagues.

America Refuses to Face up to Its «Death Squads» in Blue

Media pundits and politicians are calling the violence that broke out in Baltimore after the spinal cord severance death, while in police custody, of African-American Freddie Gray a «wake up call». However, these self-appointed «experts» on the social collapse of poor, mostly African-American working class neighborhoods across the United States, are avoiding talking about the real reason cities and towns across America are erupting in protest and resorting to rioting every time a young African-American is murdered by the police. America, like the fascist dictatorships in Latin America during the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, is now rife with police «death squads». Uniformed law enforcement officers now act as judges, juries, and executioners in meting out death sentences on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, a St. Louis suburb; New York City; North Charleston, South Carolina; Baltimore; and other cities and towns across the dis-United States.

Obama Bans Military Equipment for Local Police to Stop “Paramilitary-like Response to Riots”

After militarizing police, Obama is putting law enforcement weapons under federal control.

President Obama is announcing a “ban” on the sale or transfer of many of these military items to local police units:

President Obama has banned the sale of the most some kinds of military equipment to local law enforcement agencies in response to widespread criticism of a paramilitary-like response to riots in a St. Louis suburb last August.

OUTSIDE THE BOX VIDEO SERIES: THE POWER OF NIGHTMARES

Written and produced by Adam Curtis, The Power of Nightmares—The Rise of the Politics of Fear explores the similarities between the ascent of the American Neo-Conservative movement and the trajectory of radical, fundamentalist Islamism in three one-hour films. More controversial, perhaps, than even this comparison, is the argument that the threat of radical Islamism—al-Qaeda in particular—has been exploited by politicians around the world, especially American neocons, in order to advance their own agenda.

MILITARY RECRUITING INCREASINGLY AIMED AT CHILDREN

Once it was tobacco companies targeting minors with cartoon characters. Now the U.S. military is similarly going after those too young to enlist, but old enough to begin forming impressions about whether they’d like to sign up for a tour of duty. A study (pdf) by Joseph A. Rosendale and Mary Beth Leidman of Indiana University of Pennsylvania shows that military recruiters are adept at using social media, such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, to hone in on possible recruits.

US cited for police violence, racism in scathing UN review on human rights

The United States was slammed over its rights record Monday at the United Nations’ Human Rights Council, with member nations criticizing the country for police violence and racial discrimination, the Guantánamo Bay Detention Facility and the continued use of the death penalty.

The issue of racism and police brutality dominated the discussion on Monday during the country’s second universal periodic review (UPR). Country after country recommended that the U.S. strengthen legislation and expand training to eliminate racism and excessive use of force by law enforcement.

Anatomy of Repression: Military Tactics And Corrupt Media Used To Destroy Protest Movements

Back in 2011, people (like Naomi Wolf) who said the Department of Homeland Security apparatus was being wielded against the Occupy movement, were scoffed at and undermined by self-important media figures. By 2012, it was proven that not only was Naomi correct, but the scope of the civil violations and/or crimes being perpetrated by the state agencies in an effort to quell any and all dissent, had been grossly underestimated, and that those agencies were in fact coordinating internationally.

Billionaire Oil CEO Demands Scientists Terminated After Oklahoma Quake Study

The billionaire CEO of Continental Resources told a dean at the University of Oklahoma that he wanted earthquake researchers fired. In one of the most transparently oligarchic tactics we have seen yet during this 'recovery', oil tycoon Harold Hamm demanded certain scientists be dismissed following their findings that fracking wastewater disposal was the cause of the spike in Oklahoma earthquakes. Despite his protestations recently that "I don't try to push anyone around," as the following email obtained by Bloomberg, exposes, "Mr. Hamm is very upset at some of the earthquake reporting to the point that he would like to see select OGS staff dismissed."

SOPA, anyone? Entertainment Lobby Uses Hearing on Domain Names to Revive Awful Censorship Idea

Amidst a discussion of new top-level domain names (such as “.sucks”), a lawyer representing the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and other groups told the House Judiciary Committee’s Internet subcommittee that ICANN should force the companies that register domain names to suspend domains based on accusations of copyright infringement.

If this sounds familiar, that’s probably because it’s exactly the sort of system that the disastrous SOPA bill would have created—one where entire websites can be forced to go dark, without a day in court, because some material on the site is accused of infringing a copyright.

UK government quietly rewrites hacking laws to give GCHQ immunity

The UK government has quietly passed new legislation that exempts GCHQ, police, and other intelligence officers from prosecution for hacking into computers and mobile phones.

While major or controversial legislative changes usually go through normal parliamentary process (i.e. democratic debate) before being passed into law, in this case an amendment to the Computer Misuse Act was snuck in under the radar as secondary legislation. According to Privacy International, "It appears no regulators, commissioners responsible for overseeing the intelligence agencies, the Information Commissioner's Office, industry, NGOs or the public were notified or consulted about the proposed legislative changes... There was no public debate."

The War On Cash Destroys A Small Entrepreneur

Banks are legally obligated to report any deposit of more than $10,000 to the U.S. Treasury Department. But if an individual makes several cash deposits of less than $10,000 over an unspecified period of time that total more than $10,000, then he is presumed to be a money launderer or drug trafficker who is committing the dastardly crime of structuring, that is, seeking to circumvent the bank’s reporting requirement and maintaining the privacy of his financial affairs Thus banks are also required to file “suspicious activity reports” on cash deposits of less than $10,000. Based on these reports, if one is merely suspected–not convicted–of structuring, his bank account is seized by the IRS under “civil asset forfeiture” laws, which permits seizures of money or other property suspected of being related to a crime.

Why The IRS Seized All the Money from a Country Store

Lyndon McLellan owns the L&M Convenience Mart in rural North Carolina. A few months ago, the Internal Revenue Service went to McLellan's bank and seized all the cash in his store's account.

Why?

McLellan had violated a "structuring" law by making cash deposits of under $10,000. Structuring laws are supposed to catch drug traffickers and money launderers. But small business owners can also unknowingly run afoul of these laws.

The Secret Fed Paper That Advocated a "Carry Tax" on All Physical Cash

Many commentators have noted that mainstream economists are calling to do away with cash entirely.

It would be easy to scoff at these proposals as completely insane if the Fed hadn’t published a paper back in 1999 suggesting the implementation of a “carry tax” or taxing actual physical cash using an expiration date if depositors aren’t willing to spend the money.

Leading German Keynesian Economist Calls For Cash Ban

At this stage, a sane person might be tempted to call it a day on the monetary experiments, especially considering that at this point, the limits have been reached. That is, there are literally no more assets to buy and rates have hit the effective lower bound where rational actors will eschew bank deposits in favor of the mattress. But not so fast, say folks like Citi’s Willem Buiter and economist Ken Rogoff: the world could always ban cash because if you eliminate physical currency and force people to use a debit card linked to a government controlled bank account for all transactions, you can effectively centrally plan everything.

Court keeps cellphone network ‘kill switch’ a secret

The fuss revolves around a policy called Standard Operating Procedure 303, which is “a shutdown and restoration process for use by commercial and private wireless networks in the event of a national crisis,” according to the IT Law Wiki. The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) brought the suit after San Francisco officials blocked cellphone service to prevent a protest in 2011.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a violation of the First Amendment right to Freedom of Speech and Freedom to Assemble. There is no law that overrides those rights. There cannot be, because under the Supreme Court Decision Marbury vs Madison, laws repugnant to the Constitution are automatically null and void. Thus, some official in San Francisco pulled the plug on the cell phone system just because they wanted to. By doing so, along with violation of one of the most basic rights Americans possess, they placed those Americans in emergency situations at risk from the loss of needed communications, plus caused untold economic harm to those Americans using their cell phones for business purposes during the outage. The responsible party needs to be removed from office and made PERSONALLY financially liable for the harm caused to life and property!

The most recent poll, conducted last month for The Boston Globe, found that just 15 percent of city residents wanted him executed. Statewide, 19 percent did. By contrast, 60 percent of Americans wanted Mr. Tsarnaev to get the death penalty, according to a CBS News poll last month.

Woman Told by Airline She Couldn't Return Text From Her Suicidal Husband, Comes Home to Find Him Dead

Karen Momsen-Evers's plane home to Milwaukee from a girls' weekend in New Orleans was about to take off when she received a text from her husband, Andy: "Karen, please forgive me for what I am about to do, I am going to kill myself." Though she desperately tried to respond, Momsen-Evers was told by flight attendants that she needed to put her phone on airplane mode immediately, TMJ 4 reports.

"I begged her, I said I'm sure somebody can make an emergency phone call, I just wanted somebody to go and try to save him," Momsen-Evers said. "Nobody helped." She spent the next two hours crying in her seat. Even when the plane reached cruising altitude and Momsen-Evers explained the situation to another flight attendant, they would not make an exception for her to make an emergency phone call. When the plane landed in Milwaukee, she was finally able to call the police. By the time she got home, she was met by officers who told her Andy was dead.

Reply to a Reader’s Complaint about Anti-American Pro-Russian Bias

I recently received a sharp complaint from a reader about an assumed anti-American pro-Russian bias in my writings. The complaint gives a very good opportunity to address questions on the minds of many in the West confused by an extremely biased pro-Washington, anti-Russian bias in mainstream media coverage of Ukraine and Russia as the new demon to be fought.

First, Mr. Schneider, let me say I am an American and I am definitely not anti-American. I love my country and my fellow Americans.

What I do not love is the clique of very rich who—especially over the past three decades since the time of Reagan and Bush Senior—have step-by-step subverted the American Constitution and its guarantees of citizen rights, have destroyed prudent regulation of the health and safety of American citizens by easing safety rules of the Environmental Protection Agency to benefit companies like DuPont or Monsanto at the expense of the public.

Conservatives have 'zero tolerance' for protest of Israeli apartheid? Protest must be powerful!

The CBC's recent revelation that Conservative Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney has called for "zero tolerance" of criticism of Israel and that Canadian hate laws could be applied to those campaigning for BDS -- Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions -- against Israel is repugnant enough. But the truly disturbing irony in this outrageous declaration is that the more extreme the Israeli government becomes, the more illegal settlements it builds, the more explicit its open contempt for world opinion and the more outrageous Netanyahu's statements, the stronger is the support from the Harper government. It raises the question: is there any action, including the actual expulsion of Palestinians from Israel and the Occupied Territories that Harper would not support?

Obama Calls For Americans To Help Heal The Rifts Between Law Enforcement And Communities

President Barack Obama called on Americans to help "heal the rifts" between law enforcement and communities while giving remarks at the National Peace Officers' Memorial Service at the U.S. Capitol on Friday.

"It takes a special kind of courage to be a peace officer," Obama said. "To be the one people turn to in their most desperate moments. To be willing to run into a dangerous situation, when everyone else is running the other way."

May 15 is Peace Officers Memorial Day, which is part of National Police Week. Obama and others marked the occasion after a year of strained relations between police and citizens around the U.S.

"We can work harder, as a nation, to heal the rifts that still exist in some places between law enforcement and the people you risk your lives to protect," Obama added later. "We owe it to all of you who wear the badge with honor.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A short memo to President Obama: it is all in the training, sir, and giving police the ability to de-escalate a situation, and talk down someone who could be a danger to himself (or herself) and others).

And the more IDF members, or ex-members are allowed to train US police officers, the more average US citizens will feel like Palestinians.

What We Lose When Police Blame Victims For Their Own Deaths

In cases in which charges are not brought against an officer in a police killing, authorities have successfully shifted some blame onto the victim in order to support the assertion that an officer acted legally in using lethal force. The implication is that it isn't the officers' job to stop themselves from killing people -- rather, it is the people's job to not get themselves killed by the officers.

The cases below have all failed to produce criminal charges for the officers involved. But they leave us with a variety of questions that can't be answered simply by having a prosecutor decide that it was the victim -- and definitely not the officer -- who was somehow at fault. Even if we accept the finding that the victims were killed legally, it doesn't answer a more pressing question: Did these people really have to die?

Webmaster's Commentary:

American law enforcement needs to learn to de-escalate potentially dangerous situations, so that someone who is not in their right mind can be carefully, and humanely, subdued, and get the help they need.

If the training changes, I would almost be willing to bet that the body count from fatal shootings will be substantially be reduced.

Minneapolis cops accused of pepper-spraying 10-year-old boy in the face during protest

A Minneapolis woman accused local police of pepper-spraying her 10-year-old son in the face while accosting a small group of demonstrators protesting excessive force by police on Wednesday night.

The boy’s mother, Susan Montgomery, told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that the officer maced her son, Taye, after driving up to her and a group of 10 protesters without warning.

“I was thinking, ‘This guy is gonna run us over,'” she said. “People started running. It seemed like he was mad at that point.”

The unidentified officer then stopped his vehicle, she said, before he “just jumped out of his car and started spraying everybody. The Mace just happened. It hit everybody in that area.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

It takes a REALLY MANLY police officer.... to mace a 10 year old kid.

But the problem with police officers EVERYWHERE is that they are trained to view the general public as "the enemy", and one which must be subdued, violently, on sight.

Awaken slaves! - How The Private Central Bank Ponzi Scheme Trapped And Destroyed America

Faced with the possibility that a new Amendment to transfer money creation from the US Government to a privately owned bank might fail and fail badly, and with the name "Third Bank of the United States" already leading to opposition to the plan, the plotters did an end run around the Constitution, passing the Federal Reserve act over Christmas vacation when the members of Congress opposed to the bill would be away. The name of the new bank was then changed to "The Federal Reserve." But, it is a private bank, no more "Federal" than Federal Express. The economic system was reverted to a mirror of that same system the nation fought a revolution to be free of. The power to issue money was taken away from the government and given to the bankers and from that day onward, ALL money in circulation was created as the result of a loan at interest from the bankers to the government, to business, and to the people. There is no exception. Every dollar paid in salary, spent to purchase food or gas, or paid in taxes, began as an interest bearing loan. There is no money in circulation in the United States that did not start out as a loan at interest from the bankers at the privately-owned Federal Reserve system.

Tylenol Murders Website Opened

Michelle Rosen, daughter of one of the seven Tylenol murder victims of 1982, has launched a Tylenol Murders website, vowing to take down what she calls “the empire of lies and corruption” surrounding the incident.

The website links to a video Rosen has created that has coverage by ABC-TV News, Wall Street Journal and other media that have carried her claims.

Most coverage, as tracked by this website, has positioned J&J’s handling of the murders as the “gold standard in crisis control,” a phrase used by the May 28, 2007 Fortune magazine.

Israel continues to criminalise marking Nakba Day

Each year on May 15, Palestinians across the world commemorate the Nakba (catastrophe), or the 1948 establishment of Israel that led to hundreds of thousands of Palestinians being displaced from their homeland.

The estimated 1.7 million Palestinians who carry Israeli citizenship and live in villages, towns and cities across the country are no exception. Each year, protests, marches, lectures and other events to mourn their ancestors' dispossession are held in Palestinian communities across Israel.

Yet, since 2011, Israeli legislation has made mourning the Nakba publicly difficult for Palestinians and others in Israel. The "Nakba Law" authorises Israel's finance minister to revoke funding from institutions that reject Israel's character as a "Jewish state" or mark the country's Independence Day as a day of mourning.

Tell Congress to Stop Obama's Secret Trade Deals

The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is a new "free trade" agreement being negotiated between the U.S. and 11 other Pacific Rim countries. Like other Free Trade Agreements, this one is basically a permanent power grab by corporations and financial companies that will make it impossible for the citizens of countries joining the TPP to choose what laws and rules they want to live under.

For Americans, it would lead to increased gas exports and increased imported foods, while undermining our domestic laws and increasing the financialization of nature.

TPP was started under George W. Bush but is being pushed — hard — by President Obama. In fact, a bill in Congress would give him "Fast Track" authority for the negotiating, meaning that he, and whoever comes after him, would be able to negotiate as desired without oversight by Congress. Isn't the reason our constitution created three federal branches — executive, judicial and legislative — to ensure checks and balances?

Plans to circle American cities with open spaces, highways and circumferential life belts was long overdue...The federal government played a more effective role in reducing urban vulnerability [to atomic attack] in future residential development by working through the Federal Housing Administration [FHA], The Housing and Home Finance Agency and the Federal National Mortgage Association [FNMA].

The FBI violated its own rules in surveillance of anti-Keystone XL pipeline activists

More than eighty pages of internal FBI documents dated from November 2012 to June 2014, obtained by the Guardian and Earth Island Journal after a request under the Freedom of Information Act, reveal that the FBI breached its own investigation rules when it spied on protesters opposing the controversial Keystone XL pipeline. The rules, detailed in the agency’s Domestic Investigations and Operations Guide, dictate that special care should be taken over sensitive investigations such as those targeting elected officials, journalists, and political organizations. FBI work on “sensitive investigative matters” requires prior approval of the chief division counsel (CDC) and the special agent in charge (SAC), both of whom are supposed to consider the severity of the threat and the consequences of “adverse impact on civil liberties and public confidence” should the investigation be made public.

House Votes to End N.S.A.’s Bulk Phone Data Collection

The House on Wednesday overwhelmingly approved legislation to end the federal government’s bulk collection of phone records, exerting enormous pressure on Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Senate majority leader, who insists that dragnet sweeps continue in defiance of many of those in his Republican Party.

Under the bipartisan bill, which passed 338 to 88, the Patriot Act would be changed to prohibit bulk collection by the National Security Agency of metadata charting telephone calls made by Americans. However, while the House version of the bill would take the government out of the collection business, it would not deny it access to the information. It would be in the hands of the private sector — almost certainly telecommunications companies like AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, which already keep the records for billing purposes and hold on to them from 18 months to five years.

GREATEST THREAT TO FREE SPEECH COMES NOT FROM TERRORISM, BUT FROM THOSE CLAIMING TO FIGHT IT

Threats to free speech can come from lots of places. But right now, the greatest threat by far in the West to ideals of free expression is coming not from radical Muslims, but from the very Western governments claiming to fight them. The increasingly unhinged, Cheney-sounding governments of the UK, Australia, France, New Zealand and Canada — joining the U.S. — have a seemingly insatiable desire to curb freedoms in the name of protecting them: prosecuting people for Facebook postings critical of Western militarism or selling “radical” cable channels, imprisoning people for “radical” tweets, banning websites containing ideas they dislike, seeking (and obtaining) new powers of surveillance and detention for those people (usually though not exclusively Muslim citizens) who hold and espouse views deemed by these governments to be “radical.”

Nearly Half of Americans Concerned Jade Helm Will “Impose Greater Control Over States”

While the media has been busy trying to reassure the public over the frightening tone and scope of the Jade Helm 15 military exercises, it is clear that many Americans are not buying it.

But 45% of voters are concerned that the government will use U.S. military training operations to impose greater control over some states, with 19% who are Very Concerned. Just over half (52%) are not concerned that the government has an ulterior motive for the training exercises, including 26% who are Not At All Concerned.

Elderly Couple Honk At Off Duty Cop; Cop Breaks Man’s Nose, Smashes Teeth Out With Gun

An elderly couple in St. Louis County found out what happens when you honk your horn at a cop this past weekend, when the officer drew his gun and pistol whipped the man in the face, while wrestling with the woman as she attempted to defend her husband.

Describing the harrowing incident to local reporters, Janet and Donald Akers noted that they were unable to pay their respects to Janet’s deceased mother on Mother’s day, as they were beaten up by the cop before they could get to the graveyard.

Mrs Akers was driving the car, when she was suddenly rushed upon by a large unmarked black truck. Fearing that the truck was going to collide with their vehicle, she honked her horn.

“To let him know, hey, you’re coming over to hit us, and then he backed down, got behind us, and honked and honked and honked, all the way through the intersection,” said Janet.

The Military & the Militia

A standing army has always been used by despots to enforce their rule and to keep their people under subjection. Its existence was therefore considered a great threat to peace and stability in a republic and a danger to the rights of the nation. Since every aspect of government was designed to prevent the rise of tyranny, strict limits and control over the military were considered absolutely necessary. It was essential that the military be subordinate to civilian control.

A Nation of Snitches

A totalitarian state is only as strong as its informants. And the United States has a lot of them. They read our emails. They listen to, download and store our phone calls. They photograph us on street corners, on subway platforms, in stores, on highways and in public and private buildings. They track us through our electronic devices. They infiltrate our organizations. They entice and facilitate “acts of terrorism” by Muslims, radical environmentalists, activists and Black Bloc anarchists, framing these hapless dissidents and sending them off to prison for years. They have amassed detailed profiles of our habits, our tastes, our peculiar proclivities, our medical and financial records, our sexual orientations, our employment histories, our shopping habits and our criminal records. They store this information in government computers. It sits there, waiting like a time bomb, for the moment when the state decides to criminalize us.

UK government will bring back Snooper’s Charter; Snowden warns of dangers

However, speaking from Russia at a conference in Australia on Friday evening, the whistleblower Edward Snowden warned against accepting this distinction: "The impacts of metadata can’t be overstated, they are collecting data on everyone regardless of wrongdoing. When you have metadata, it’s a proxy for content, so when politicians split hairs about metadata you should be very sceptical." He went on to say that adopting these data retention laws was a "radical departure from the operation of traditional liberal societies around the world," and pointed out that mass surveillance had not stopped the Sydney siege, the Boston marathon bombings, or the attack on the Charlie Hebdo magazine in France.

Court’s Reversal Leaves Phones Open to Warrantless Tracking

In a decision published Tuesday, a panel of 11th circuit judges overturned the ruling the same circuit court made last year in US vs. Davis, which found that obtaining Davis’ past cellphone location without a warrant violated his fourth amendment right to privacy. The new ruling instead finds that because Davis’ phone location data wasn’t Davis’s property, but the property of his phone carrier, MetroPCS—a legal argument known as the “third party doctrine”—he had no expectation of that data’s privacy, and the cops tracking him didn’t in fact need a warrant.

Sales Exec Says She Was Fired for Uninstalling GPS App That Tracked Her Constantly

According to the suit, which was spotted by Ars Technica, Intermex made employees install the Xora GPS app so the company could track them at all times. Myrna Arias claims that she told her boss, John Stubits, that she was fine with the tracking while she was on duty, but opposed to it during her off hours and weekends. The suit alleges that a group of co-workers agreed with this position. After doing some research about Xora, Arias uninstalled the app in April 2014.

After researching the app and speaking with a trainer from Xora, Plaintiff and her co-workers asked whether Intermex would be monitoring their movements while off duty. Stubits admitted that employees would be monitored while off duty and bragged that he knew how fast she was driving at specific moments ever since she installed the app on her phone.

Hillary Clinton Has 1 Day to Take a Serious Stand on One of the Biggest Corporate Trade Deals in US History

The Democratic Party is now in an all-out war over the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), with labor unions, environmentalists, and other public interest groups opposed to fast tracking the deal – which would allow it to have a vote with no amendments -- battling corporations and President Obama who are for fast track. The big vote on TPP in the US Senate is on Tuesday.

One voice who has been silent in this internecine conflict is Hillary Clinton. Clinton has refused to say whether she supports granting Obama fast track authority, let alone whether she supports the overall agreement. Her campaign chairman, John Podesta, recently joked to some donors that he wishes the deal would just “go away.” She has basically one day to come out and show where she stands on this issue and influence the outcome of the vote.

Rainwater collection being criminalized in U.S. to solidify total government dependence

You might be aware that it is illegal to collect rainwater on your own property in some states, but did you know that doing so could actually land you in jail? That is exactly what is happening to Gary Harrington of Eagle Point, Oregon. He is now facing a 30-day jail sentence and fines of more than $1,500.

His crime? Harrington has been collecting rainwater in three reservoirs on his property, and the government doesn't like it. In Oregon, all water is considered property of the state whether it flows from the tap or falls from the sky.

The Prison Gates Swing Open for US Peace Activists

Kathy Kelly is just out of prison, where she’d been sent for nonviolently opposing drone murders.

An appeals court has just overturned convictions for Megan Rice, Michael Walli and Gregory Boertje-Obed, imprisoned for entering and protesting a nuclear weapons site at Oak Ridge, Tenn., three years ago. Resentencing on lesser charges, and quite possibly immediate release, is expected.

Amazingly, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 that the government failed to prove that the activists intended to “injure the national defense.” (Maybe Venezuela, accused by President Obama of being a threat to the same, should appeal to the Sixth Circuit!)

The U.S. government has just dropped charges against eight members of the National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance who nonviolently protested the U.S. military’s environmental destruction with a march from the EPA to the Pentagon this past Earth Day.

When Obama Talks About His "Massive Fight" With Wall Street, What Exactly Does He Refer To?

On one hand, none other than the company whose very future depends on the continuity of the financial status quo (that would be Bloomberg whose 200,000 Bloomberg terminals are the cashflow lifeblood of the company and for which another financial crash would mean a huge hit to the bottom line as millions of financial workers are again laid off) has a cover story, as well as a cover, depicting Elizabeth Warren as Wall Street's bogeyman.

On the other hand, we now learn that Warren is also warning that Obama's pet trade project, the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) which is supposed to counter the ascendence of China in global trade, has been warning about the potential damage of the trade deal and has been arguing that the deal would cost American jobs (for more on the topic, see "Free Trade Is Plutocratic Propaganda").

And Obama is not happy: according to the NYT, Obama called Warren "absolutely wrong" in his criticism of the TPP.

How prisons have become a cash cow for the rich

And it’s not just the phone companies that are getting rich off prisoners’ phone calls.

Thanks to so-called “commissions” that can account for as much as 94 percent of the cost of a call, prison phone contracts have become a major source of revenue for state and local governments all across the country.

These glorified kickbacks have also become a source of revenue for prisons themselves, and they use them to pay for the health care and food services they’re already constitutionally required to provide.

In other words, like pretty much every other case of privatization over the past few decades, the rise of private prison phone contracts has nothing to do with “efficiency” or “improving services” and has everything do with making a quick buck for some crony capitalist with a bunch of Republican friends in Congress.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The privatization of prisons in this country has guaranteed an horrific rise in recidivism (re-offending, going back to prison), which means that the private prisons have become great investment opportunities (for people with the morals of a trout, that is).

Sweden is CLOSING many of its prisons, and why?!? Because the total focus of prison time is rehabilitation, rather than punishment, and reintegration with society when the prisoner is released.

It is a sane, and compassionate model, which is why it is completely ignored by the penal system here in the US.

DHS LATEST ATTEMPT TO KEEP THE PUBLIC IN FEAR, CLAIM LONE-WOLF ATTACKS COULD HAPPEN ANY DAY NOW

DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said Sunday that the United States is facing a new era in which a lone-wolf terrorist could “strike at any moment.”

Keeping the American public in fear is what It's all about. We can't have DHS/police budgets dry up right Mr. Johnson?

As a result, Johnson said, the federal government is making a greater effort to engage with state and local law enforcement and encourage them to be “vigilant” about what is happening in their communities. This last statement proves one DHS and our police are one entity and two they're complicit in using another false-flag to scare the public. Remember this is the very same DHS that lied and claimed malls were being targeted by ISIS when their budget was under attack.

Later DHS had to admit there were no credible threats to ANY malls in America.??

Webmaster's Commentary:

BBC WANTS GOOGLE TO REMOVE TOP GEAR’S IMDB PAGE

This week BBC Worldwide reported a record number of infringing links to Google, targeting more than 25,000 webpages. We decided to go through the links and it wasn’t hard to find several URLs that are clearly not infringing.

For example, one of the notices targets the IMDb pages of Top Gear, The Game and Top Fails.

The Internet Movie Database is one of the prime sources for movie and TV fans to get information and doesn’t host or link to infringing content, so taking these pages offline only hurts the BBC.

Perhaps even more worrying is that the same notice also lists the British home of the video site Dailymotion as “infringing.” While this page may have linked to unauthorized material in the past, it’s certainly doesn’t warrant the removal of the entire homepage.

US fall from virtuous republic to tragic-comic empire described perfectly by Roman historians

*hyperlinks live at source*

The ancient Greek historian, Polybius, celebrated the Roman republic of ~ 150 BC under its constitution with balance of powers among the Senate, two elected consuls, and the general citizens:

“Such being the power that each part has of hampering the others or co-operating with them, their union is adequate to all emergencies, so that it is impossible to find a better political system than this.” - The Histories, Book VI, Section V: On the Roman Constitution at its Prime

Americans and people around the world were equally proud of the United States Constitution as “impossible to find a better political system than this.”

About 100 years after Polybius’ account, Rome’s republic had descended into oligarchic competition for power. Contemporary to Julius Caesar, the Roman historian and government insider Sallust blasted the decline of virtue in government:
