Supreme Court: Cops Can Pull People Over for Wrong Reason

In 2009, Nicholas Heien of North Carolina was pulled over for having one broken brake light. Having one working brake light is legal in North Carolina. However, upon searching, the officer allegedly found cocaine and Heien was arrested and charged for attempted drug trafficking.

Attorneys argued that the law would have made Heien's search and ensuing arrest invalid.

How ‘Awesome’ Is America?

snip: Tantaros’s rant did have the feel of a Saturday Night Live satire, but her upbeat jingoism was only a slight exaggeration of what Americans have been hearing from much of their media and politicians for decades. At least since the presidency of Ronald Reagan, any substantive criticism of the United States has been treated as unpatriotic. Indeed, a journalist or a politician who dares point out any fundamental flaws in the country or even its actual history can expect to have his or her patriotism challenged. That is how debate over “how we’re not awesome” is silenced.

This study just took government waste to a whole new level

The real time U.S. debt clock shows that America is now over $18 trillion in debt. According to Obama, it was just plain un-American when the debt piled up under Bush’s watch. But Obama has racked up more debt than every U.S. president combined, and there’s no signs of him stopping his legacy. It’s bad enough that congress passed the $1.1 trillion “cromnibus” bill.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE JEWISH TO LOVE CHANUKAH

Every year as the calendar wound down, here came one of music journalism’s over-roasted chestnuts: the annual roundup of new Christmas albums. I never groaned. I’m one of those Christmas music people. As soon as the Thanksgiving turkey is down my gullet, I’m trotting out the tinseled tunes. And each year, somehow, the same old songs are rechristened, rearranged, repackaged anew. It’s the big catalog that could. It’s the lamp that you’d think should have burned out a long time ago.

Seattle Apodment Moratorium Imperils Innocent Retiring Mother.

Josh Randall ponders his mother's fate before Seattle City Council

Do I like apodments... err.... micro housing? In general, no. I will not eat them with green eggs and ham and Might I reconsider my general disdain depending on the circumstance? Yes. To wit, the situation with Kathleen Randall, in which the purchase of her U-District home at 4315 7th Avenue NE is imperiled because the developer cannot obtain a build permit. Permits are needed, inter alia, to fix a crumbled sewer line that rendered the home uninhabitable. The thing of it is, the application was submitted prior to imposition of the moratorium but as I told City Council yesterday I believe that much of pushback they are getting in permitting is because of the moratorium. The US news media has treated Dick Cheney and Michael Hayden better in interviews this week than they treat British royalty on an American vacation.

It’s been less than one week since the US Senate released its devastating report on CIA torture and criminality, but if you turned on the television Sunday morning, it looked frighteningly like the year 2002. Virtually all the Sunday talk shows led offnot with those who documented the CIA’s depravity, or the victims of such abuse, or those who objected to torture when it wasn’t fashionable to do so. Instead, they instead continued to pump up the former Bush administration architects of this illegal program, so they could once be given a platform to defend it.

Dick Cheney on Torture: the Report Is “Full of Crap” and “I’d Do It Again in a Minute”

Dick Cheney, the man who says his job it was to get the torture program put in place during the Bush, Jr. years, has gone on record to say he thinks the newly released Senate torture report (which he hasn’t even read) is “full of crap.”

In some ways, Mr. Cheney (or, maybe I'll call him DICK), might be literally right considering that the report details one of the "enhanced interrogation techniques" was something called "rectal rehydration," which, like every other disgusting and dehumanizing method used in that report, was ultimately deemed ineffective and totally unjustifiable.

What's rectal rehydration? Well, in case you haven't heard, the Washington Post summed it up pretty well:

Senate torture report reveals American sadism

The global ‘war on terror,’ conceived by the Israelis and launched by their American lackeys shortly after the false-flag attacks of 9/11, is nothing short of a cruel hoax on the world. The sadists and megalomaniacs who have executed this comical ruse may well evade justice in this lifetime, but history will record their foul deeds so that future generations will rightly view them as the monstrous villains that they have proven to be.

A particularly cringe-worthy revelation is that the CIA practiced “rectal feeding” where prisoners on hunger strikes were force-fed through their rectum in order to keep them alive. The RT commentary cited above writes that, “At least five CIA detainees were subjected to ‘rectal rehydration,’ or rectal feeding, the Senate report reads, in order to keep prisoners alive who allegedly otherwise refused to eat.”

Miko Peled: This is NOT Recognition

As the recognition by European countries of a so called “State of Palestine” continues, it is becoming obvious that this is nothing but an old colonial trick dusted and reused. The fact that liberal Zionist hypocrites the likes of the Israeli writers Amoz Oz and David Grossman are all over it says it all.

In Palestine, speaking out against injustice is no longer enough. In fact it was never enough. As people of conscience we must act for the removal of the injustice and its replacement with a free, democratic system. But many forget that in order to achieve this there must be a struggle. A real struggle, and not some intellectualized version of a struggle as is often suggested by some Israeli liberals, is the only way to defeat racist, colonialist regimes.

The new European ‘arc of instability’

What’s certain is that the Empire of Chaos won’t relent in its strategy of heating up the new arc of instability – inside Europe, across the economic/financial spectrum – and instrumentalizing its pre-fabricated New Iron Curtain from the Baltic to the Black Sea.

The European Council on Foreign Relations and Berlin think-tank Friedrich Ebert Stiftung have just reached more or less the same conclusion.

If the dangerous stand-off between the EU and Russia over Ukraine is not solved, the EU could face, up to 2030, a military build-up in eastern Europe; a new arms race with NATO as a protagonist; and a semi-permanent “zone of instability” from the Baltic to the Balkans and the Black Sea.

The True Story Of The Secret Christmas Miracle!

My 8th Christmas, like the 7 before it, was spent in the rural Farmlands of New Hampshire just north of the state capital of Concord. Our little town of Loudon, long ago bypassed by the new turnpike, remained locked in a small but comfortable time warp away from the hustle of the more modern times that surrounded us. Each winter, we lived the Christmases that Normal Rockwell painted and Currier & Ives printed.

Wintertime, by and large, was a wonderful time for adventurous boys. Unlike the rest of the year filled with hard dirt and stone, the winterscape is malleable, subject to the will and direction of 8 year old hands that lost no time in the construction of snow men, snow women, snow dogs, igloos, and the inevitable snow forts from which to launch that most safest and humane of warfare against the similar edifice in the neighboring yard.

Music was also used to prevent detainees from sleeping, which is another way of creating delirium and vulnerability in the detainees. Some songs were chosen because they were annoying, while others were chosen because they may have been offensive to the prisoner’s culture or religion.

Amazon sellers hit by nightmare before Christmas as glitch cuts prices to 1p

There were Christmas shopping bargains galore on Amazon’s website over the weekend … for about an hour. Because of a technical glitch, the prices of thousands of items crashed to 1p – giving eagle-eyed customers a pre-Christmas treat while leaving scores of small family-owned businesses nursing heavy losses, with some warning they could enter the new year facing closure.

From 7-8pm on Friday, software used by third-party sellers to ensure their products are the cheapest on the market went haywire and reduced prices to as little as 1p. “Amazon is all kinds of broken,” one observer tweeted. “Mattress 1p. Headphones 1p. Batteries, clothing, games all 1p. Someone messed up big time.”

Martin Le Corre, who sells toys and games via his MB Housewares store on Amazon, told the Guardian that the glitch in software developed by RepricerExpress could have cost him more than £100,000.

US hostage Peter Kassig was killed by gunshot BEFORE being beheaded, analysis shows, suggesting he may have resisted ISIS captors

Extraordinary new research has emerged suggesting Peter Kassig's beheading was faked by ISIS, and that the U.S. aid worker was killed by a gunshot, not decapitated by Jihadi John as implied.

Medical experts examining an ISIS propaganda video in which Mr Kassig's severed head is seen at the feet of ISIS' British executioner in chief, have concluded that he is likely to have been shot dead.

The claims add further weight to speculation over why Mr Kassig's full body was not shown in the video. Unlike ISIS' previous sickening filmed murders, he did not speak directly to camera before being killed and his body was not shown after the murder.

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO): Profit, Power and Geopolitics

The fact is that GMO technology would still be owned and controlled by certain very powerful interests. In their hands, this technology is first and foremost an instrument of corporate power, a tool to ensure profit. Beyond that, it is intended to serve US global geopolitical interests. Indeed, agriculture has for a long time been central to US foreign policy.

“American foreign policy has almost always been based on agricultural exports, not on industrial exports as people might think. It’s by agriculture and control of the food supply that American diplomacy has been able to control most of the Third World. The World Bank’s geopolitical lending strategy has been to turn countries into food deficit areas by convincing them to grow cash crops – plantation export crops – not to feed themselves with their own food crops.” Professor Michael Hudson [3].

The Project for a New American Century and the Wolfowitz Doctrine show that US foreign policy is about power, control and ensuring global supremacy at any cost [4,5]. Part of the plan for attaining world domination rests on the US controlling agriculture and hijacking food sovereignty and nations’ food security.

Such a list would register individuals who while employed as law enforcement officers were found unfit for duty or faced serious disciplinary issues they may have resigned to avoid. Just as

The Military and CIA Interrogation Program Has Not Stopped

The Senate report on torture created a tsunami of media coverage this week. The American public hasn’t been so shocked by evidence of the U.S. torture program since the Abu Ghraib photos of 2004. The program is far worse than previously disclosed. Greater numbers of victims have been tortured for longer periods and in ways that rival the most infamous tortures in history (“rectal feeding”). But one falsehood gets repeated as fact by even in the most serious reporters, namely, that the torture program stopped years ago. It has not. The Appendix M of the 2006 Army Field Manual on interrogation methods allows military and CIA interrogators to continue torturing detainees, and the current force feeding of Guantanamo hunger strikers is so brutal it rises to the level of torture.

Avery A. Browne the Chief of the California Highway Patrol Golden Gate Division, insists that plain-clothed undercover officers who pointed guns at protesters did nothing wrong whatsoever. His darling officers, who never identified themselves as police as required by law, pointed their loaded weapons at people after getting into a melee with the crowd.

"Two officers were not going to be able to arrest 30 or 40 or 50 individuals," Brown said. "I am very much sensitive to how disturbing it is when a weapon is drawn, and I don't take these matters lightly at all. At the same time, we have to understand these officers were under attack." On his website, however, Brown insists "You have entrusted us with the enforcement of laws and regulations. We wanted to prove we deserved your trust."
