Report from protests against Netanyahu: 'Public opinion about Israel is changing irreversibly'

Outside, in the streets surrounding the U.S. Congress, a strong, spirited crowd of demonstrators denounced Benjamin Netanyahu for committing war crimes against the Palestinian people and for attempting to whip up a war fever against Iran. We were met by police lines and cops who grabbed and shoved people as they attempted to exercise their Constitutional right to protest at Congress.

Inside, from within the hallowed halls, Netanyahu was given a boisterous two-minute-long standing ovation by the millionaire politicians in Congress.

The irony of what happened today speaks volumes about the nature of democracy in this country.

Russia Today Should NOT Be Facing an Inquiry for ‘Anti-Western’ Comments

Broadcaster RT is facing an inquiry after one viewer, apparently so deeply offended by the allegedly ‘anti-Western’ views being broadcast, felt the need to complain to British TV and radio regulator Ofcom. The comments were made on Peter Lavelle‘s popular show CrossTalk, and supposedly breached impartiality standards.

RT’s CrossTalk is being anonymously accused of airing “anti-western views” during a December 23rd broadcast. So how is a media outlet supposed to regulate what its guests say, without outright censorship and blacklisting of certain subjects? And what can RT do when any British pundits or politicians who oppose Russia will not come on RT to discussion their view points. Suppose a memo went out in Westminster telling MPs not to go on RT? What then?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Was the media impartial when they claimed Saddam had nuclear weapons and refused to interview anyone who doubted that claim?

I rest my case.

White House Petition Against Mandatory Vaccination Reaches 100,000 Signature Threshold — Will Obama Respond?

The petition up on WhiteHouse.gov against mandatory vaccinations has, at the time of writing this, reached well over the 100,000 signatures needed by March 6th in order to supposedly garner a response from our president’s administration.

The petition is short, sweet, and to the point:

No human being should be FORCED to be vaccinated against their will and/or personal/religious beliefs. I petition against making vaccinations of any kind mandatory. This includes forcing children to be vaccinated to attend public schools, activities, and daycare centers. This also includes adults working in the public or private sector.

The fact that this even has to be petitioned in the first place, however — that the people so fear their government would take away their basic sense of medical freedom — is a sure sign of tyranny.

“FREAK” flaw undermines security for Apple and Google users, researchers discover

Technology companies are scrambling to fix a major security flaw that for more than a decade left users of Apple and Google devices vulnerable to hacking when they visited millions of supposedly secure Web sites, including Whitehouse.gov, NSA.gov and FBI.gov.

The flaw resulted from a former U.S. government policy that once forbid the export of strong encryption and required that weaker “export-grade” products be shipped to customers in other countries, say the researchers who discovered the problem. These restrictions were lifted in the late 1990s, but the weaker encryption got baked into widely used software that proliferated around the world and back into the United States, apparently unnoticed until this year.

Researchers discovered in recent weeks that they could force browsers to use the old export-grade encryption then crack it over the course of just a few hours.

Netanyahu Threatens War In Speech to Congress

This was a speech threatening war.

Realizing he has insufficient clout to stop the negotiations, Netanyahu demanded a back-up position: If not "no" deal, then we can have a better deal.

His vision of a "better" deal, however, is grounded in Iranian surrender. And since that is not going to happen, demanding it means abandoning diplomacy in favor of—yes, war.

Netanjahu stabs Obama in the back!!

Ernst and eloquent echo the sentences through the great hall in the US Congress: With a deep voice and well-chosen words, a statesman describes his urgent concerns. Farmers To Face Fines Or Prison Sentences For Selling Food Directly To Customers

This would seem to embody the USDA’s advisory, “Know your farmer, know your food,” right? Not exactly.

For the USDA and its sister food regulator, the FDA, there’s a problem: many of the farmers are distributing the food via private contracts like herd shares and leasing arrangements, which fall outside the regulatory system of state and local retail licenses and inspections that govern public food sales.

In response, federal and state regulators are seeking legal sanctions against farmers in Maine, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and California, among others. These sanctions include injunctions, fines, and even prison sentences.

Video: Student Loans Are Like STDs (Everyone Is Catching Them)

Student loan debt is the next big economic sledgehammer that's about to come down on this country...the next big bubble to burst following the housing bubble.

Consider this. Student loan debt is somewhere upwards of $1.3 Trillion in this country these days — and that's just the official government loans, not private lenders, etc. The Congressional Budget Office is estimating that's going to double in the next decade as tuition rises and more people go back and get even more loans, going to grad school in the hope that if they take on even more debt and get another degree, maybe they'll finally be able to get that magical job where they can afford to live to be debt free one day to match it... a condition known these days as "American Dream Syndrome."

Israel’s IDF Supports Syrian Opposition Rebels: Shin Bet Secretly Arrests Golani Druze, Accusing Him of Exposing Rebel-IDF Collaboration

Israel’s Shin Bet rearrested Golani Druze Sedki al-Maket (age 48). Until his release in 2012 (Hebrew), he’d been the longest serving Israeli security prisoner, having spent 27 years detained. News of his arrest is under gag order by Israeli media. The gag is laughable since the arrest has been reported not only by Syrian media, but in a Hebrew Facebook post.

Though Israeli security services haven’t offered any reason for his arrest, it’s likely they’re angered because a week ago he followed Syrian rebels to a meeting inside Israeli-occupied territory. The rebels met with IDF forces who’ve previously been shown to receive logistical and intelligence support from Israel in previous reports here and in Israel and foreign media. Al Maket filmed a video while the meeting was underway, in which he described what he saw and offered it to Syrian TV. It was aired to the entire nation and likely monitored by Israeli security.

DEADLY BACTERIA RELEASE SPARKS CONCERN AT HIGH-SECURITY LOUISIANA LAB FOR VACCINE RESEARCH ON PATHOGEN THAT ESCAPED

A dangerous, often deadly, type of bacteria that lives in soil and water has been released from a high-security laboratory at the Tulane National Primate Research Center in Louisiana. Officials say there is no risk to the public. Yet despite weeks of investigation by multiple federal and state agencies, the cause of the release and the extent of the contamination remain unknown, according to interviews and records obtained by USA TODAY.

The incident has raised concerns that bacteria from the lab may have contaminated the facility's grounds and though initial, limited tests didn't detect it, some officials are pressing behind the scenes for more action, records show. The safety breach at Tulane's massive lab complex 35 miles north of New Orleans is the latest in a recent series of significant biosafety accidents at some of the most prestigious laboratories in the country where research is performed on bacteria and viruses that are classified as potential bioterror agents.

Leaked cables show Netanyahu’s Iran bomb claim contradicted by Mossad

Binyamin Netanyahu’s dramatic declaration to world leaders in 2012 that Iran was about a year away from making a nuclear bomb was contradicted by his own secret service, according to a top-secret Mossad document.

It is part of a cache of hundreds of dossiers, files and cables from the world’s major intelligence services – one of the biggest spy leaks in recent times.

Brandishing a cartoon of a bomb with a red line to illustrate his point, the Israeli prime minister warned the UN in New York that Iran would be able to build nuclear weapons the following year and called for action to halt the process.

But in a secret report shared with South Africa a few weeks later, Israel’s intelligence agency concluded that Iran was “not performing the activity necessary to produce weapons”. The report highlights the gulf between the public claims and rhetoric of top Israeli politicians and the assessments of Israel’s military and intelligence establishment.

NETANYAHU’S LONG HISTORY OF CRYING WOLF ABOUT IRAN’S NUCLEAR WEAPONS

In his 1995 book, “Fighting Terrorism,” Netanyahu once again asserted that Iran would have a nuclear weapon in “three to five years,” apparently forgetting about the expiration of his old deadline.

For a considerable time thereafter, Netanyahu switched his focus to hyping the purported nuclear threat posed by another country, Iraq, about which he claimed there was “no question” that it was “advancing towards to the development of nuclear weapons.” Testifying again in front of Congress again in 2002, Netanyahu claimed that Iraq’s nonexistent nuclear program was in fact so advanced that the country was now operating “centrifuges the size of washing machines.”

Needless to say, these claims turned out to be disastrously false. Despite this, Netanyahu, apparently unchastened by the havoc his previous false charges helped create, immediately went back to ringing the alarm bells about Iran.

VANCOUVER, CANADA (National Post) The Surrey couple accused of the foiled 2013 Canada Day terror plot bickered about everything from their drug addictions to whether Islamic law permitted trimming body hair.

The U.S. Constitution Actually Bans Hillary’s Foreign Government Payola

The Washington Post reported last week that the tax-exempt foundation run by Bill and Hillary Clinton accepted money from seven foreign governments while Hillary served as U.S. Secretary of State (it’s unclear how much foreign money the organization accepted while Hillary was a U.S. Senator). Super shady, right? It’s worse than that, though, because Article I, Section 9 of the U.S. Constitution actually bans foreign payola for U.S. officials.

The constitutional ban on foreign cash payments to U.S. officials is known as the Emoluments Clause and originated from Article VI of the Articles of Confederation. The purpose of the clause was to prevent foreign governments from buying influence in the U.S. by paying off U.S. government officials.

Hannity Calls Obama ‘Neville Chamberlain’ And Netanyahu ‘Winston Churchill’

“Great American” Sean Hannity didn’t just side with Israel over his own country as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has figuratively spit in President Obama's face. No, Hannity went out of his way to demonize Obama in every possible way he could work into a nearly 10-minute segment.

It’s very touching to see Hannity’s sudden concern for Jews when you consider how he has previously palled around with the most vile of anti-Semites. But when there’s a contest between Hannity’s bigotry and his lust for conservative power – and maybe a new war for other people to shed blood in – well, it’s no contest.

But that doesn’t mean Hannity is above using his bigotry against President Obama. Hannity had at the ready a montage of Obama making such statements as, “The United States is not and will never be at war with Islam” as a blatant suggestion that Obama is too pro-Islam to love Israel.

Noam Chomsky: Opposing Iran Nuclear Deal, Israel’s Goal Isn’t Survival — It’s Regional Dominance

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has arrived in the United States as part of his bid to stop a nuclear deal with Iran during a controversial speech before the U.S. Congress on Tuesday. Dozens of Democrats are threatening to boycott the address, which was arranged by House Speaker John Boehner without consulting the White House. Netanyahu’s visit comes just as Iran and six world powers, including the United States, are set to resume talks in a bid to meet a March 31 deadline. "For both Prime Minister Netanyahu and the hawks in Congress, mostly Republican, the primary goal is to undermine any potential negotiation that might settle whatever issue there is with Iran," says Noam Chomsky, institute professor emeritus at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. "They have a common interest in ensuring there is no regional force that can serve as any kind of deterrent to Israeli and U.S. violence, the major violence in the region.

Investigate Whether Hillary Clinton Violated Federal Regulations By Using Personal Email

Hillary Clinton would have used a personal email account to conduct government business as secretary of state, which could constitute a violation of Federal Records Act.

As revealed by The New York Times, during the four years he spent as Secretary of State Clinton never used an official email address, so that all government affairs apparently drove from his personal account.

Other senior government officials, including President Barack Obama and Hillary’s successor, John Kerry, have used government accounts for official business.

Frigid February closes coldest since 1979 in Washington, D.C.

After a mild December and chilly, but tranquil January, February 2015 was almost like an entire winter wrapped up into just one month.

The average temperature of 30.3F at Washington, D.C. Reagan National Airport was the coldest monthly average temperature of any month of the 2000s (including all Januarys). You have to go all the way back to January 1994 (just over twenty years ago) to find a colder month, when the average temperature was 28.8F.

Netanyahu’s Long History of Crying Wolf About Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to address the U.S. Congress tomorrow about the perils of striking a nuclear deal with Iran. Netanyahu, not generally known for his measured rhetoric, has been vociferous in his public statements about the dangers of such compromise, warning that it will allow Iran to “rush to the bomb” and that it amounts to giving the country “a license” to develop nuclear weapons.

It is worth remembering, however, that Netanyahu has said much of this before. Almost two decades ago, in 1996, Netanyahu addressed a joint session of Congress where he darkly warned, “If Iran were to acquire nuclear weapons, this could presage catastrophic consequences, not only for my country, and not only for the Middle East, but for all mankind,” adding that, “the deadline for attaining this goal is getting extremely close.”

FLASHBACK - Netanyahu 2002: Iraq has Centrifuges ‘the size of Washing Machines’ to Produce A-Bomb

Israeli PM Binyamin “Chicken Little” Netanyahu tried to scaremonger about Iraq in 2002, as his contribution to the Anglo-American war of aggression on that country. “there is no question whatsoever,” Netanyahu said, “that Saddam” was seeking nuclear weapons. He said that Israeli intelligence reported to him that Russian scientists and North Korea were on site and actively aiding this phantom nuclear weapons program.

There was no Iraqi nuclear weapons program in 2002; it was dismantled in the early 1990s by United Nations inspectors. There were none of the chemical or biological weapons Netanyahu spoke of. No Russians. No North Koreans. Bupkes.

Netanyahu also warned that Iraq would give nuclear warheads (which it did not have) to “terrorist groups.”

He also argued that no inspections could possibly find “mobile weapons sites” (which are impossible), implying that invasion and occupation was the only course open.

The Catastrophe Bibi Is Courting

So Bibi Netanyahu did not back down, and he’s here now in the United States, and he’s giving the speech Tuesday. In doing so, he has forced a true low point in U.S.-Israel relations. If these dystopian qualities were the basis for a movie or TV show, we could take comfort in the knowledge that justice would eventually prevail.

The United States and Israel made public protestations of enduring friendship on Monday even as acrimony simmered over plans by the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to voice his objections to US-led efforts to strike a diplomatic deal with Iran over its nuclear programme in a speech to Congress on Tuesday.
