It's a cozy relationship. The same people who sold Saddam the American-made Anthrax which is now aimed right back at us also own the one company able to sell us a vaccine. And the Bush family are in on the deal.

ISN'T THIS HOW WE GOT INTO THIS MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE?


There is an interesting article in the London Telegraph in which the writers charge that US payments to countries in support of the "campaign against terror" amount to little more than bribes to those governments to take the US side of the issues. But buried within this article is an interesting quote by a senior Republican advisor, "Despite the problems with their lack of true democracy, their friendship at this time is going to be remembered."

Well, I hate to be the history teacher here, but isn't this how we got into this mess to begin with? By backing a government that was anti Democracy solely because they were willing to oppose the enemy we opposed? That's how the Taliban came to be in the first place. The USA, specifically the CIA, created them as a weapon against the Soviets.

For a nation that talks a lot about bringing Democracy to the world, our government has a track record of backing some pretty UNdemocratic regimes, including those of the Shah or Iran, Cuban Dictator Batista, Chilean Dictator Pinochet, etc. etc. etc. despots who, however useful they were at the moment, oppressed, tortured, and murdered their populations into submission to the needs of multi-national corporations based in the USA. Then, when those populations revolted, we Americans, totally oblivious to the role the US government played in events leading up to the revolutions, scratch our heads and wonder why these people hate Americans, impressing the world with our incredible naiveté.
