Iraq's mass graves

What Really Happened

One of the big excuses given by the USA, UK, and friends for invading and occupying Iraq was that Saddam Hussein supposedly executed hundreds of thousands, or millions, of his own people and stuffed the corpses in mass graves hiiden all over Iraq. Why he'd bury them in secret places after slaughtering millions of people was never explained. Why there were no huge convoys of trucks or trains carrying that many bodies was never explained. Why there was no evidence of any such mass executions was never explained. But eventually even Tony Blair, England's Prime Minister, came clean and told the truth.

Tony Blair's original quote:

Tony Blair: "We've already discovered, just so far, the remains of 400,000 people in mass graves."

Then the truth came out:

PM admits graves claim 'untrue'

Downing Street has admitted to The Observer that repeated claims by Tony Blair that '400,000 bodies had been found in Iraqi mass graves' is untrue, and only about 5,000 corpses have so far been uncovered.

The claims by Blair in November and December of last year, were given widespread credence, quoted by MPs and widely published, including in the introduction to a US government pamphlet on Iraq's mass graves.

Blair admits they lied about Iraq's 'mass graves'

The British prime minister has been forced to admit that claims about the number of Saddam's enemies killed during the civil war - the infamous "mass graves" - was exaggerated by at least 8000%.

British prime minister admits graves claim 'untrue'

Downing Street has admitted to The Observer that repeated claims by [British prime minister] Tony Blair (above) that '400,000 bodies had been found in Iraqi mass graves' is [sic. are] untrue, and only about 5,000 corpses have so far been uncovered.

The "Coalition" unravels, "Saddam Hussein Lite".

In the UK, in the meantime, Tony Blair admitted that his constant claim that "400,000 bodies had been found in Iraqi mass graves" was untrue, and that only about 5,000 had been found. While 5,000 murdered Iraqis is certainly sufficient evidence of a serious crime against humanity, Tony Blair's manipulation of the numbers provides useful insight into his cavalier attitude towards the truth.
