Consider: The present government just held elections. If the overthrow succeeds, there are only two possible outcomes.
1. The son of the Shah is restored to the Peacock throne. Kings are never voted out of office. Thus, democratic process is impossible.
2. Mousavi gains power. But since Mousavi and his supporters only represent 1/3 of the people of Iran, Mousavi will never allow free and honest elections, because to do so means the loss of power with the very next election. Therefore, while Mousavi talks a good story about democracy, of necessity he can never allow it.
