Media Player Classic Homecinema [2.7MB] [NI] - Excellent media player which plays most codecs "out of the box", e.g. DivX, XviD, FLV, MPEG 1, 2 & 4, H.264, wmv, wma, mp3, etc.

RealPlayer adds more than 600 entries to Windows registry.

QuickTime adds more than 1000 entries to Windows registry.

This mass of registry entries slows down Windows. Revo Uninstaller [1.5MB] is not recommended for novices, but it allows all program traces be uninstalled from Windows [details].

oggdropXPd [450KB] [NI] - Audio files compressed in the ogg format have proven to sound better than other compressed formats (mp3, wma etc). oggdropXPd is a simple way to convert audio files into this format - simply drag and drop files onto a target window. Note #1: the aoTuVb5 version gives improved audio quality and offers lower bitrates. Note #2: the program requires all of the DLLs at the bottom of the download page to be placed inside the directory where oggdropXPD is located along with msvcr71.dll which can be downloaded from here.
